Do you think we will draft Rix?
Although he is a mature player he is the only non listed player to have a mentor under that program. Perhaps there is something in mind for him!
He has been amongst Coburg's best players every week playing at CHF and kicking goals.
I think 3 young picks in the draft should be enough to keep the continuity moving along and we should be looking for mature players to fill the glaring gap in the 24 to 28 group.
With Campbell retiring, Staff and Graham doughtful. Morrison obviously not wanted and Tivendale with his obvious lack of football nous also should go.
Of the younger ones coming on most of them appear more suitable for back play rather than forward play and so forward is the area you would expect this year to be where the recruiting concentration will be focused upon.
Having said that I expect Krakaour may be traded for a taller option up forward as his performances over the year have been ordinary and there are smalls such as Foley and Rodan able to fill in in that area.
Some of you have, I know been watching Coburg over the season and I am interested to read your thoughts on the matter. Is he or is he not a proposition?

what if he gets picked up by another team and stars 4 them b4 we get a chance to draf :bangheadt him
-
I believe he will be picked up!
-
Oh please god no....

I hope he isn't another Morrison. Good in the slower pace of the VFL but gets found out in the pace of the AFL. The question I ask is would we be considering picking him up if weren't short of 20-something KPPs?
-
If Michael Rix gets drafted it would be a very late pick 50+ IMO. Any side prepared to use an earlier pick than that is effect wasting a pick
Excellent tap ruckman in the AFL but not tall enough for the same role in the AFL
Disposal, in particular his kicking is not his strength. His pace would also be a concern but when it comes to the body on body type stuff - very very good

I realise a late pick will be used if we pick him up but if a player's kicking is dodgy then we should not draft him.
-
Naturally we'll use a late pick on him.
I actually don't think his kicking is that bad, but ive only seen a handful of games.
Isn't he quite the athlete?

Morrison > Rix

If it's a case of a big fella with muscles then Julz say "I will". She can't help herself ;D.

No it wasn't it was a case of "when" :rollin

Well you'd all be wondering what was wrong with me if I didn't.
-
Was named in the VFL team of the year at JJ Liston the other night.
-
I don't believe we will draft Rix but this is solely based on what I percieved at pre season training earlier this year where he got the job on Richo and was towelled up, I had heard he was one of the favourites for the Liston Trophy but he didn't win it so I feel he's playing at his right level in the VFL.
-
You want big men that are agile and fairly quick for their size. That wasn't the impression I got from the few times I watched Rix.
-
In todays Age, looks like we have given him the flick all together.
"The Bendigo Bombers' Jordan Doering, Springvale's Ashley Eames and Coburg's Michael Rix were the other players that received permission to train with the Dons."

Cheer up Julz - just because he is training with the Bombers doesn't mean he'll get picked up by the Bombers. ;D
In all fairness to Michael Rix and he is a fantastic bloke he would be a very late pick in the draft 60-70's at best IMV. It's hard to know what position he'd play in the AFL. For Coburg he spent a lot of time in the ruck and he is a very good tap ruckman but I doubt that he'd be tall enough to hold that position in the AFL. Key position defender perhaps but you'd question whether he'd have the pace -so many questions :help ;D
Perhaps he may end up back at the Burgers ;) ;D
-
:( :( :'(
You'll always have Simmonds! :rollin
-
Most likely he's just trying his luck training with the Bombers in the off chance he'd be picked up in either the National or preseason drafts. If nothing happens then as WP said he'll probably remain with Coburg in the VFL,
-
'Well' St Kilda took him as their 3rd round pick.
Quite a surprise but good luck to him for fullfilling his dream.

I am absolutely rapted for Michael Rix - that he is finally getting his chance at AFL level. I will admit to being staggered he went in the 3rd round and feel sorry for him at the same time - St Kilda of all places :scream
;D
-
Ummmmmm what is all this nonsense i hear about Rix being 200cm? :o :o
Apparently on the afl draft show on 10 they had him listed at 200cm, footydraft have him at 199cm and so does a papers draft review!
I thought he was like 193cm? ???
-
Would have been more rapt if he came to us. :'(

Thank God St kilda took him, the guy is another Morrison, can only play at VFL Level :thumbsup

Exactly - Greg Stafford's about 200cm (or a bit more) and I've seen Rix and Staffy standing side by side and Rixie aint the same height as Staffy ;D
About Richo's height (6ft 5") or a little less I reckon.
Would have been more rapt if he came to us. :'(
Cheer up Julz at least he's not lost to you prying eyes altogether ;D
He may line up against us in round 2 on the Friday night early next season :rollin
-
Congrats to the Rixxer !
Happy to see him get a chance at AFL level.
It just reinforces that the VFL is a legitimate pathway to a possible AFL career for the guys that have been passed over as teenagers at the draft.
Would like to see Coburg become the preferential choice for quality VFL players looking to have a crack at AFL, especially now that Andy Collins is in charge.
-
With the ruck situation the way it has turned out this post was food for thought.
they will not listen to us old heads will they Jack :lol
-
rix aint that good, no better than graham. we are no worse off and no better off, but , we potentially can be better off
-
He is/was good at VFL level but not for AFL. One ordinary Saint ruckman is enough thanks :yep.
