And your point is?

Our injury list is a joke

Dea was injured for a fortnight and he wasn't listed and didn't play

Just assume young Todd is injured because he probably is

I still believe we need to lift our tackle count in the main squad, when the swans were leading last night it was 7 to 28 tackles in favour of them. Good to see Thomas involved with that.

The young guys usually have to play a number of good games in a row before they are even considered for senior footy. That's what hurt McDonough last week despite having 29 possies and kicking 3 goals.

A great contested mark from Sam Lloyd in the pocket sets him up 30m out. And he goals. However Willy get it straight back.

We're missing quite a few due to injury. Hampson, Knights, Petterd, Elton, C.Ellis and then Morris was 23rd man up in Sydney. Other VFL clubs would also have better local leagues to draw VFL-listed players from.

The ressies need a new coach.

What our VFL side needs more than anything is a decent VFL list.

Wouldn't matter who was coaching them when we need to play more top ups than AFL listed then we are always going to be non-competitive.

Makes me think we are not spending what we need to on the VFL part of he business list wise.  :whistle

Most of the VFL top ups are below standard with only a few showing they can handle the standard. Scott is similar to Short the way he plays. Cachia plays similar to Thomas. McFarlane is a smart left footer with potential. Wynne is a right footed Dea. Gale goeas ok and the most promising of all of them is Mellington who mainly plays in the under 18 comp. The rest are poor IMO. We need recently de-listed players to continue playing. The Western Bulldogs do this very well - unfortunately :banghead

Agree.

Need better VFL listed players.

Need to follow what Box Hill/Essendon are doing.

They are sitting 1st and 2nd.

We are second last.

We want to do competitive, not like this.

Last year we had good VFL listed players and didn't replace them at all.

No we didn't.....and most of them are still here including Wall who was the best one....biggest loss for this year has been Stephenson who was AFL-listed but played nearly every game....would also help if Contin was fit & firing.....not much though...

Watched the game a week or so ago and it struck me that our kids didn't seem to have any idea of how to play a game of football.
Ran to the wrong spots, kicked to the wrong spots, made no position (even when 65 metres away from the ball), didn't set up in either defense or attack.

Now obviously that's wrong. We couldn't be only recruiting dumb players so it's got to be the game plan and coaching.
It's a problem we've all seen over the years where the new players show promise and then get it drummed out of them. Think of McBean and now McKenzie.

Still I suppose the board, Gale and Richardson haven't arrived at the ground or are still having drinkies so they don't watch the reserves.
Clarke seems like a nice charming bloke so that's all we need in a VFL coach.

I really want to steal Phil Bunn from Adelaide as our reserves coach.
He was the coach at Bushrangers in 08 and 09, in 2010 he went to Port as their Mebourne recruiter and in 2013 was appointed as Adelaide's Melbourne-based recruiter.
Would rather have him as a VFL coach, recruiting VFL matures and developing junior players.

VFL Tigers outclassed by Williamstown

By Catherine Durkin
June 28, 2015

Richmond’s VFL squad has suffered another disappointing loss, going down to Williamstown by 40 points at the ME Centre on Saturday.

Despite three goal hauls from young forward Jayden Short and Sam Lloyd, the Tigers struggled offensively much of the day, making it difficult to apply scoreboard pressure.

Williamtown was inaccurate all day, allowing Richmond to stay within striking distance for much of the first half.

However, after half time the Seagulls stamped their dominance on the game, finishing with 64 ventures inside 50 to the Tigers 51.

Find out more about Richmond’s Homecoming event, and purchase your tickets now to avoid missing out

After taking a 32-point lead into three quarter time, Williamstown burst out of the blocks in the final quarter, with three quick goals to put the result beyond doubt.

Matt Thomas was a consistent performer for the Tigers all day.  He collected 30 possessions and continued that intense tackle pressure he has brought all year, finishing with a game-high 10 tackles.

Lloyd worked tirelessly up forward and spurred several passages of Richmond momentum. He finished with 16 possessions, 12 of which were contested, and took five contested marks.

The game also marked the return of key target David Astbury after recovering from a hamstring strain. Although only gathering nine disposals, mostly in defence, he managed to get through the game with relative ease.

The Tigers will venture to Eureka Stadium next Sunday to take on North Ballarat, who currently sit just above Richmond on the ladder.

FINAL SCORES
Richmond          3.0    5.6     7.6        10.7.67
Williamstown     4.3    7.8    10.20    14.23.107

GOALS
Richmond – Lloyd 3, Short 3, Menadue 2, McKenzie, Wynne
Williamstown – Gibbons 2, Casley 2, Anastasio 2, Jolley, Bewley, Masters, Dunell, Currie, Johnstone, Myers, Clousten

BEST
Richmond - Thomas, Lloyd, Short, McDonough, Lennon, Wall, McQualter
Williamstown - Banner, Gibbons, Marcon, Wheeler, Jolley, Carr, Casely

Richmond’s VFL coach Tim Clarke's summary of the Tigers’ AFL-listed players ...

Matt Thomas
30 disposals, 15 contested possessions, 10 tackles

Played his best game for the year.  Had around 30 touches again and 10 tackles. Used the ball much better this week, and is really starting to come into some form. After having a tough year with managing his knee injuries, we’re really excited about what he can offer over the next couple of weeks.

Matt McDonough
24 disposals, seven clearances

Played a good game for us offensively. Defensively, he let us down a little bit at times. But he continues to find the ball around stoppages, and some of the work he’s doing in close is AFL standard, we just need to keep his game on the outside coming along.

Ben Lennon
18 disposals, three tackles

Played wing most of the day. Still learning the role, which is going to add another string to his bow. Every time Ben gets the ball, something happens with our side. He didn’t hit the scoreboard, but he did contribute to two or three goals. Hopefully Ben can keep improving the wing role over the next two or three weeks.

Sam Lloyd
Three goals, 16 disposals, five contested marks

Continues to win contested ball and hit the scoreboard. He kicked three goals on the day and took five contested marks. Sam keeps showing that his ability to win one-on-ones is AFL standard.

Jayden Short
Three goals, 16 disposals

Played close to his best game of the year offensively. Hit the scoreboard three times and had 15 to 16 touches. We expect Jayden to provide more defensive pressure as a small forward. Things like tackling and chasing - they are the sorts of things he’s working on at the moment, and we need to see that coming out in his game.

Matt Dea
14 disposals

Played his role but didn’t do much more than that. Contributed well in regards to chop out marks and helping to set up our defence, but we expect Matt to play a more impactful game at VFL level.

Liam McBean
14 disposals, five tackles, eight hitouts

Played well in patches in the ruck and as a key forward, but didn’t impact the game as well as we would have liked. His critical contest work is getting better and better each week. But we expect a better performance this week from Liam against North Ballarat.

Steve Morris
13 disposals

Played forward and midfield. Came back with a great attitude and his commitment in the contest was terrific. We expect Stevie to have a bit more of an impact at VFL level. But for his first game at VFL his attitude was good, and that was what was important.

Matt Arnot
12 disposals

Played a defensive role on Anastasio, one of Williamstown’s key small forwards. Played really well, restricting his player to two goals, one of which he had no influence on. Continues to learn the role of a small defender and we will keep playing him there over the next few weeks.

Reece McKenzie
12 disposals

Continued his form from last week. Took three or four really strong marks and competed well in the contest, which is what we expect from Reece. He’s developing really well in that role.

Dave Astbury
Nine disposals

First game back in a while. Dave was really good in the air and the critical contests. We expect him to use the ball a bit better, but that will improve with the games that he plays. Played three and a bit quarters - three quarters back and one quarter forward. He showed when the ball is in the air he can impact well.

Connor Menadue
Nine disposals

Was disappointing coming back from the AFL. Didn’t really influence the game at all in the way that we know he can. We expect a better performance from Connor, both offensively and defensively.
