So we should be "overwhelming favorites" and so we should win accordingly. No more crap, no more dropping these games, we will win the next 3, that is all we should be accepting as members and the players should be accepting no less either.

Hopefully Jack kicks another 10 goals.

Wouldn't mind seeing Griff and Vickery kick a few each too...

Agreed, these are the games we should have no major problems with.  There are no 'easy' games against the Giants anymore, but a good side like we are (notice I didn't say 'great') should win it by 3-5 goals without too many problems.  Great sides should smack the Giants by 10+ goals at the moment, but I'll be happy to see us come out with a good win.  More of the same good form from us will be more than enough.  Looking forward to Rance Vs Jezza, should be a cracker!  Rance to towel up another fancied forward ...    ;D

Match preview: Tigers v Giants
Nathan Schmook
AFL.com.au
June 30, 2015

SUMMARY

The tide hasn't just turned at Tigerland, the team is now riding a tidal wave of momentum that has it in contention for the top four. With away wins against Fremantle, Port Adelaide and now the Sydney Swans, the Tigers have a 7-5 record and sit sixth on the ladder. They are a settled team with top form.  The Giants, meanwhile, have slipped to ninth after back-to-back losses and are still coming to terms with the loss of influential ruckman Shane Mumford.

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, July 4, 1.40pm AEST

LAST FOUR
R19, 2014, Richmond 13.11 (89) d GWS Giants 8.14 (62) at the MCG
R10, 2014, Richmond 24.10 (154) d GWS Giants 5.11 (41) at Spotless Stadium
R22, 2013, Richmond 25.13 (163) d GWS Giants 6.6 (42) at Spotless Stadium
R12, 2012, Richmond 11.20 (86) d GWS Giants 12.2 (74) at Spotless Stadium

THE SIX POINTS

1. Richmond's midfield dominated the last time these sides met, with  Brandon Ellis (34 possessions), Brett Deledio (31) and Trent Cotchin (30) all influential. No Giants player managed 30 possessions or more.

2. Jack Riewoldt's form this season has helped Richmond become a strong marking team inside 50. The Tigers are averaging 14.6 marks in attack, with Riewoldt averaging 3.42 a game (ranked No.2 in the AFL).

3. Richmond have a perfect 4-0 record against the Giants, with two wins by more than 100 points. Riewoldt has kicked 16 goals in four games with a bag of 11 early in 2014.

4. The Giants are the worst contested possession team in 2015, averaging 127.1 a game. The Tigers rank No.14 with 134.9 a game.

5. The Giants will be looking for just their second win at the MCG. They’ve played eight games with their only victory late in 2014 against Melbourne. They have four wins from seven games interstate this season.

6. Giants midfielder Dylan Shiel is on the cusp of entering the Top 50 in the Official AFL Player Ratings. He is ranked No.51 after starting the season ranked No.122.

IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR …
 Ryan Griffen
After some lean weeks, the senior midfielder was on the way up before the Giants' bye. He needs to continue that form in the absence of ruckman Shane Mumford to help his younger teammates in the middle of the ground. Griffen has averaged 3.7 tackles and 3.6 clearances a game this year, which should improve if his recent form continues.

PREDICTION: Richmond by 36 points

Tiger talls loom large for depleted Giants

Adrian Warren
AAP
July 1, 2015

GREATER Western Sydney will be hoping a massive injury toll of key defenders doesn't result in Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt producing a bumper haul like his 11-goal bag against the Giants last season.

The Giants have an acute shortage of key defenders left to tackle Richmond's formidable array of tall forward timber in Saturday's clash at the MCG.

The Giants will be without their four main key backs with Nick Haynes (groin) joining long-term casualties Phil Davis (ankle), Tim Mohr (knee) and Joel Patfull (ribs), while Lachie Plowman has had just one game back in the reserves after dislocating an elbow in January.

Aidan Corr (22 senior games) and rookie Caleb Marchbank (one) are the only fit specialist key defenders, as the Giants strive to quell the Tiger trio of Riewoldt, Ty Vickery and Ben Griffiths.

Davis, Mohr and Haynes all missed the game at Spotless Stadium last year, when Riewoldt booted his career-best bag and Corr primarily had the job on the Tiger spearhead.

Co-captain Callan Ward was adamant GWS still had enough defensive depth to compete against Richmond's talls.

"We've got plenty of guys who can come in and cover those sort of guys in the back six," Ward said.

He wasn't listening to the naysayers who have tipped the Giants to plummet out of the top eight after suffering successive losses for the first time this season.

"Internally we're still really confident," Ward said.

"We still think we're playing some really good footy and we still believe we can beat any team out there."

The Giants also remain short in the ruck department, with Shane Mumford out for the season and his most experienced backup Andrew Phillips unlikely after not playing for the past three weeks.

Tom Scully is available again after illness forced him to withdraw from the Giants' last game against North Melbourne before last week's bye.

Richmond has won five of its past six, notching away victories over Fremantle and the Sydney Swans in that time, but Giants coach Leon Cameron wasn't fazed at playing the Tigers in the midst of a purple patch.

"The first 10 or 15 minutes for us is so important because you want to get over that bye week, get over that rustiness, get your second wind," Cameron said.

"Richmond have already played two games after their bye so they are rolling now, and we must make sure that we get rolling early."

Dimma said they are expecting/hoping 40k Tiger fans to turn up on Saturday.

He also said the Giants move the ball very quickly, so we need to be on our guard about that and bring the pressure at the ball and opposition.

A win would be great, on paper we are a monty, but melb beat geelong, the comp is tight, and our boys have to be switched on.

I am tipping RFC to win and with my tipping skills this could very well indicate a loss.

In my opinion it's battle of the midfield's, they are undermanned in their defensive 50 so if we get first use of the ball and get it in there often enough then we will kick a winning score. If we allow them to dominate the clearances which jus shouldnt happen then they do have some dangerous players inside 50, should be an easy win on paper but this is Richmond we are talking about.

I'll just be happy if we get the 4 points.

Our home form, especially our first quarters, has been rubbish this year. Even in our few wins we're started matches half-asleep  :banghead. We gave Carlton and Collingwood 4 goals starts before chasing them down.

Mumford is a huge loss for GWS in the ruck but they still have weapons in the midfield and up forward to do us damage if we are again mentally (and subsequently physically) off our game at home. We still need to bring the full on pressure and intensity we are capable of to beat them.

Richmond are going to have to be a little cleaner with the ball. They have operated at a disposal efficiency of 43 per cent and a kicking efficiency of 14 per cent so far.

The ball has been in their forward half for 71 per cent of the first nine minutes of this match.

13 Tigers without a tackle = too many passengers. Cotch and Dusty with 4 tackles, Grigg & Ellis 2, Rance, Newy, Miles & Ivan with 1. The rest zippo.

What do we do before a game to continually fail to turn up for first quarters?!  :banghead.

Gordon off half-back finds Cotch who gets it to Dusty on the wing. Long kick to Lids is knocked out of bounds. We scramble it forward and it's a ball-up. Dusty has a ping but it doesn't make the distance. Vickery pressure forces the Giants' kick OOTF. Ellis to half-forward. Titch gets it and Lids gets the free 40m out. Misses  :P.

Richmond have scored 0.4 (4) from stoppages today; GWS have scored 2.3 (15) from stoppages.

Richmond have scored 2.0 (12) from kickins, while GWS have only transitioned a single kickin to their forward fifty, kicking 0.1 (1).

Richmond had the better of general play, an had 14 inside 50s to GWS's 7. But scores ended up level for the quarter.

Houli... Back to the magoos until Ramadan is over. Someone give him a rump smoothie at half time so he can compete and attack the ball.
Newman, how does this guy get a game, his 8 possessions and lack of leg speed must be invaluable to the match committee.

Lids kicking at goal is very ordinary for a guy with very good skills.

We are a dumb side, playing this type of footy when it's wet.
Making it even harder to score when we kick it to the pockets.

We're outnumbered because we're so slow in moving the ball forward. In the last couple of minutes we had about 10 kicks going back and forth across half-back and wing. Surprise surprise the Giants had everyone behind the ball and then hit us on the counter to an open forward line for them. Just dumb dumb dumb! It's wet weather footy - get it forward long and quickly before the opposition can get numbers back and have ground level players front and square to crumb.

Backwards must have been in big capital letters on the Richmond coaching white board today because that's all we have done. Almost back to the early part of last season, FFS go forward, overlapping run has gone, looking for the easy ball, marking space and not the player at contests, two players contesting marks only to leave an opposition player free, you name it we have done it today. Last week means nothing if we lose today.

We all know he is Hardwick's pet, the sooner he retires the better. Did very little today and for the first 3 quarters I wasn't even sure he was playing. Has virtually zero impact although I am sure Hardwick will focus on his tackle in the last which will justify his selection next week.

Newman is just pox of the highest order. He plays with no intensity, hangs off the contest by 5-10 m rather than working hard to help out his team mates, even if his opponent does.

I think it was early in the last where he let his man run to the contest at the top of the goals square, while he gaurded the goal line.

Geez who would have thought his opponent would get possession and kick it over his head from 15 meters away, for a goal?

He plays like he knows he can just cruise along and let the others do the hard work and there will be no recriminations.

That is the definition of being a passenger!

We need to improve the list - depth and quality, simple as that.
Improving the quality will involve attracting good free agency talent. Gotta win games like yesterday to play finals.
Need our gun players to help us win one.

After watching yesterdays game I am more convinced than ever that all our issues are mental..We have shown on more than one occasion that not only can we match it with the best ,but beat the best.
Yet against so called lesser teams we struggle. This is a huge issue because in my opinion mastering this will take us from striving to arriving

I believe we constantly play to the level of our opponent. I agree that it is definitely mental because we have proved time again that once the switch is flicked then we are nearly unstoppable.

I don't care about other team's problems -  in the case of a few, I laugh at them - only ours. You don't get away with what we served up for three quarters yesterday and the first half last week in finals.
Yea  we were atrocious , a finals contender where  playing the game  of their lives and wait for it managed to be a goal ahead for the most part  ::). When the game was their to be won. Guess what we stepped up ,,,like good sides do  :clapping get a grip of reality, GWS have won 7 games with some fair scalps along the way   :wallywink

Gws have lost four of the last five

Without caring about them, I would guess injury to the best players have been the reason

They have an average age of about 14

Martin's field kicking and decision making has been poor at times this year.

Maric looks cooked every second game.

We still get killed in the air too often and we still can't tackle for shyte.

We stll carry too many unskilled hacks....even though one of them, Batchelor, saved our arse in the dying minutes....just like he did at ANZ last year...

Spot on Dio. Acknowledging these things doesn't mean you're too negative, it means you can see where we need to improve.

good points both

We don't need players (I mean we do, everyone does) but what we have now is enough to give it a run as long as we stay relatively healthy, and apart from 1 or 2 teams that's what its all about in the afl, little bit of luck here and there, good draw and who knows? Feel we're on the verge. Our lesser likes(or soldiers) are learning to contribute and role play which imo is just about the most important ingredient in a top side.

Good win by the lads. Had me on the edge of my seat. GWS came to cause a upset that near happened. Till Edwards turned it on. Dusty Martin what a player. Rance will win the Brownlow.  ;D

Rance (CHB), Titch (HFF) & Cotch (Int) made the AFL website's team of the week:

ALEX RANCE (Richmond) - Richmond's most important player in the nine-point win against GWS, Rance strengthened his claims as the AFL's best key defender. In an ugly win, his work on Jeremy Cameron was crucial, keeping him to two goals.

SHANE EDWARDS (Richmond)- Highly respected at his club and starting to get the recognition externally, Edwards produced another strong game across half-forward and midfield. He racked up 24 possessions and kicked a superb running goal from a centre clearance.

TRENT COTCHIN (Richmond) - Produced another outstanding burst when needed to get the Tigers over the line, finishing with 33 possessions and five inside 50s. His second goal, out of a stoppage in the fourth quarter, drew scores level and the Tigers went on to win by nine points.

Don't think it's negative, more factual

We just, got over a team of kids, missing best players like Davis and mummy

The fairy floss brigade in good form

Lucky they didn't kick straight, few more goals and they would've beat us

Well we had to play a half of football to beat Sydney.

Today we had to play a quarter of football to beat GWS.

Next week we will need to play 15mins of good football to beat Carlton.

 :lol

I was close. (FIGJAM??)

In the end we only needed 10 mins of good football to beat the navy pooes.

 :lol
