Ty just walked up to the fence and gave a menacing look as the ferals backed off.

Absolutely loved this :lol

All that happened with Dusty was the Collingwood cheer squad asked him how many seasons in a row were the Pies 8-3 only to miss finals. Dusty gave them an answer. ;D

Bloody great show. I can remember that little prick Didak doing that to us game after game.
How do you feel ferals!!

Spot on Penelope. If that tosser Goodes had mimed chucking a spear at me I'd have mimed blowing him away with a magnum right back at him. And I'd have been dragged away by security for inciting violence for my trouble. Nice double standard. Boy it was fun watching those toothless Collingwood bogans getting upset though :lol

I thought 2015 was supposed to be the year of the fan/fan-engagement?
Honestly if Goodes can get away with his 'war dance' I'm sure Dusty can get away with telling Collingpoo supporters to go fist themselves...
-
most reasonable thinking, balaced people would see it like that. After all, a war dance's objective is to intimidate, much more so than a 'up yours' two fingered salute.
The problem is we are talking about the AFL here.

Dustin Martin, Richmond, has been referred to the AFL Football Operations Department for determination under the Player Rules after making a gesture to the crowd during Saturday’s match against Collingwood at the MCG..

Dustin Martin facing a fine after gesture to Collingwood supporters
AFL.com.au
August 25, 2015
DUSTIN Martin is facing a possible fine, with the AFL's football operations department investigating a gesture he made to Collingwood supporters during Richmond's win at the MCG on Saturday.
After running into an open goal in the last quarter of Saturday's game, Martin raised two fingers to the Collingwood cheer squad.
The midfielder and teammate Jack Riewoldt had earlier come in for some attention from the Pies cheer squad, with some members seen to give them one-fingered 'salutes'.
The AFL announced on Monday afternoon that the Match Review Panel had referred the Martin incident to the League's football operations department for determination under the competition's player rules.
Given Martin was found guilty of making an offensive gesture in Richmond's 2013 elimination final loss to Carlton, when he made a handcuffs signal, he now faces a $2500 fine for a second offence, which could be reduced to $1500 with a early plea.
However, Martin will have to pay $2000 on top of that fine, with that amount part of a suspended two-year fine imposed by the AFL for his 2013 handcuffs gesture.

Dustin Martin shouldn’t be punished for his gesture to fans, says Mark Robinson
Herald-Sun
August 25, 2015
IF we’re talking about cultural symbolism, then Dustin Martin should escape penalty for his two-finger salute to his friends in the Collingwood cheer squad on Saturday.
Up yours, he basically said, as he waved two fingers towards the black and white lunatics.
And for that, he’s into the principal’s office, which is the AFL football department.
Perhaps instead Martin should’ve borrowed Adam Goodes’ imaginary spear, because we now know that’s not an issue for the AFL.
Goodes’ dance and throw down was a cultural thing, despite it being only a couple of years old.
The old two-fingered salute was also a cultural thing, a national treasure until the single-digit salute came along.
The raising of the middle finger ruined it for everyone because it went from up yours to eff you and soon enough players were in trouble.
Matthew Richardson was fined for $5000 for raising the finger to the crowd, as did Nathan Brown at Richmond, but Richard Colless, then the Swans president, got away with it when he raised his middle finger to the TV camera in a message to Collingwood president Eddie McGuire.
This is a minor issue, but the Goodes incident makes it a curious situation for the AFL.
I fully supported Goodes war dance, thought it was terrific and was delighted the AFL looked at it likewise. But others didn’t and in the end it divided a nation.
The Martin stuff surely is banter.
Some Collingwood cheer squad members said Martin started the so-called fight by raising the two fingers and they responded in kind and en masse.
Sorry, but don’t believe you.
That Martin’s gesture has been referred to the AFL football operations department means a fine is forthcoming.
If that’s the case, Martin has every right to feel unfairly punished.
Imaginary spear versus two fingers?
Confrontational and misunderstood versus banter and laughs.
The list of dos and don’ts on the AFL behavioural list makes for interesting reading.
You can high-five the crowd, even touch the crowd, even charge at the crowd (thanks Michael O’Loughlin), but not show them the finger or two fingers.
You can hug the crowd (thanks James Hird), but don’t cross your wrists, which is symbolism for a friend in jail (thanks Dustin Martin, Andrew Krakouer, Brendon Goddard and Michael Gardiner).
You can do the double cobra (thanks Levi Casboult), but you can’t do the “shotgun” (thanks Mark Williams).
You can call Essendon players dopey, as a player at Greater Western Sydney did, but can’t call them dopers and heaven forbid if you pretend to inject something (thanks Sam Mitchell).
There are rules and regulations for everything.
We all know Martin shouldn’t have bit.
But what of the Collingwood fans?
At the weekend, they were face of Collingwood and the footage went around the nation.
If Eddie thinks that’s cool, then that’s OK.
But all in all, it wasn’t a good day on and off the field for the Collingwood army.

blobbo must have stole the copy boys homework i think, one of his better articles.
The reference to the spear chucking is pretty obvious and it will be interesting to see if it gains enough publicity that the AFL actually try to clarify how trying to intimidate the crowd by throwing an imaginary spear is ok and giving a two fingered salute is not.

Tiger Alex Rance believes Collingwood fans almost crossed line with verbal abuse
Ronny Lerner
The Age
August 25, 2015
Richmond defender Alex Rance believes Collingwood fans came close to crossing the line in their heated exchanges with Tigers players on the weekend.
Sections of the Collingwood cheer squad were seen hurling abuse at the likes of Dustin Martin and Jack Riewoldt during the Magpies' humiliating 91-point loss at the MCG.
Martin and Riewoldt gave as good as they got and the former is likely to be fined after being referred to the league's football operations department for dishing out a pair of unsavoury hand gestures to some Collingwood fans.
Rance said he loved the passion shown by footy fans but insisted there was a limit to what was acceptable behaviour.
"I think they definitely approached the line," Rance said of the Magpies faithful.
"It's an emotional, physical game and if they feel like they're helping their side then I think they're well within their rights.
"The supporters are definitely colourful and they make the game what they are.
"I love the passion all supporters show but there is definitely a line there that supporters and players don't necessarily need to cross.
"I know Richmond have got some beautiful passionate supporters too so I'm sure other people will be asked the same about us."

Have to disagree with you on that one. Without wanting to open Pandora's box again (I'm going to) the two finger salute is a known sign/signal used in order to get a reaction and intentionally offend someone.
Goodes' war dance, which he mimed DURING indigenous round lets not forget, had a massive cloud over it. It doesn't have a deeply ingrained cultural significance to it like the two-finger salute does.
Is the Haka deemed offensive? Nope.

AFL activates $2000 suspended fine against Dustin Martin after two-fingered salute
Herald-Sun
August 28, 2015
RICHMOND’S Dustin Martin is $2000 out of pocket after the AFL activated a suspended fine for his two-fingered gesture towards Collingwood supporters during Saturday’s’ 91-point win at the MCG.
The AFL’s football operations department sanctioned Martin for making an offensive gesture, which activated a $2000 suspended fine imposed by the AFL in 2013.
That two-year suspended fine came after Martin celebrated a goal in the elimination final against Carlton by making a handcuffs gesture.
The AFL released a statement which read: “After contacting the club and receiving a written explanation from the player, it was decided the suspended sanction from 2013 would be imposed for this matter, with no further penalty beyond the $2000 fine.
The AFL’s match review panel had referred Martin’s latest two-fingered salute straight to the football operations department for determination under the competition’s player rules.
Martin was one of several Tigers, including Jack Riewoldt and Tyrone Vickery, who responded during Saturday’s match after being on the receiving end of some colourful advice from the Pies fans.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick acknowledged on Thursday that the byplay with opposition fans was “not something we’re overly rapt with’’.
“We just spoke to our group about ‘hey listen, let’s just play within the confines of the game’,’’ Hardwick said.
“We like our players to celebrate goals with their teammates, we like our players to just worry about what’s happening within the white lines.’’
Richmond defender Alex Rance said earlier this week that the Collingwood fans behind the goals came close to crossing the line in their banter with Tigers’ players, but “if they feel like they’re helping their side then I think they’re well within their rights’’.
“There’s definitely a line, but I love the passion that all supporters show. There is definitely a line there that I think supporters and players don’t necessarily need to cross,’’ Rance said.
“I know Richmond have got some beautiful and passionate supporters too.”

Once difference is Dusty flipped the two-fingers more than once ;D and had priors with a suspended fine hanging over him from 2013. The AFL activated the suspended fine yesterday.

It's not fair.
Dusty is half white too :snidegrin

Hope he doesn't need a weeks leave to regroup after such an emotionally tumultuous round

If you agree with the fine, you're not necessarily racist against Dusty. But you are guilty of providing cover for racists.

Yes the worst thing is providing coverage for the true racists
-
If he twirled the fingers instead of flipping them there would have been no case to answer as Shannon Motlop and Eddie Betts do it all the bloody time! :banghead Maybe next time he should do the Brett Lee Chainsaw! Doing that in front of the black and white Army would be pure gold and from what I can tell, would be perfectly acceptable. :huh

No inconsistency over Martin, Goodes reactions: AFL CEO
AFL.com.au
August 28, 2015
AFL CHIEF executive Gillon McLachlan doesn't see any inconsistency in the League's stance on players making gestures to fans in the stands.
Richmond's Dustin Martin has been fined $2000 after his two-fingered salute towards Collingwood fans last Saturday
It was actually an activation of a suspended fine for Martin's handcuff gesture, intended to show support for a friend in prison, from 2013.
Fans have taken to talkback radio and social media questioning why Martin has been sanctioned, but Adam Goodes and Lewis Jetta were not for their indigenous war dances.
McLachlan insisted the actions were very different.
"I think everyone understands what the two-finger salute is actually supposed to mean and what it's about," McLachlan said in his weekly 3AW radio interview.
"The indigenous war dance, whatever people want to call it, it's come out of an under-16 year-old Boomerangs group of kids, and it was done in indigenous round and it's supposed to be one of celebration.
"I don't think you can draw the links or the parallels."
Asked whether he thought an throwing an imaginary spear was potentially inciting the crowd McLachlan said: "I think if people think the imaginary spear's supposed to be impaling them, maybe."
"People understand the context, it's been clear, it's a celebration and I think that's the distinction."
"Certainly my view's pretty clear … they're celebrating their culture and their people, and are not intending to incite people."

However unintended, another divisive consequence of Adam Goodes which will be his legacy. Unfortunate because until he started sliding into packs with his knees, staging for free kicks and persecuting 12 year old girls - he was a fabulous footballer

To clarify, it's the unfounded myth that British longbowmen showed the forks to the French in battle as the French would supposedly remove those two fingers of the bowmen when captured. In that case then Dusty would have been better off just showing the Collingwood cheer squad his two front teeth.
