@PaulAmy375: Early recruit for Richmond's VFL team in Port Melbourne's Tommy Langford. Brings the experience of more than 100 senior games to Punt Rd.

Any word on getting Tyrone Downie back now he's been delisted by Gold Coast?
-
Who's the Coach for next year?
-
Is he a good bloke?

Richmond announce vfl signings.
The other 17 teams focus on afl signings

:lol
maybe you need to put the idea to the club that they should have separate recruiting teams for the AFL and VFL teams so this problem doesnt happen?

From twitter
@PaulAmy375: Richmond @VFL skipper and worthy onballer Jaryd Cachia almost certain to return to SANFL club Norwood, where he played in the flag in 2012.
-
Good - he was arse.
-
probably still is, unless we can find a way to mention chaplin in the converation
-
Good - he was arse.
that may be true, but he showed up some of our AFL listed players
-
No he didn't.
-
Matt Thomas should be Captain :rollin

If that involved moving him to the VFL list, then I'd be all for it.

Welcome back Craig!

Jeez who's coming back next? King? Royal? Jade the Blade? Can only hope McRae learnt a thing or two at Collingwood because he was absolutely useless the last time he was here...

Good recognition for emerging Bentleigh and @SouthernFNL player Matt Troutbeck. He's been invited to train with Richmond's VFL team.

Think I've explained it time and time again.
We target too many blokes from local leagues rather than recently retired AFL players or senior VFL players.
Happy to get a few but our VFL lists over the last 2 seasons have contained far too many, hence, why we are non competitive when we have to play too many of them due to AFL listed players who are injured
It's not a criticism of the kid who Paul Amy has named but the approach we take

The issue is money, recently retired AFL players can get $3500 a game in the burbs and about $350 in the VFL
The injury list we had last season cruelled any hope the VFL side had, a full season of Foley , Petterd , Conca , Knights, Drummond , Shorty , George, Cachia etc etc & we would be a lot better
Kids like Mellington 20 & Aarts 20 who were great all year & hopefully Troutbeck are better options than hacks like ex AFL/VFL players in Bathie & Barlow & Mcqualter etc
remember we lost our Captain Ross Young late in the piece & that affected our ability to recruit mids & then Tyrone Downie who had signed, got rookied by GC
We have already gained experienced player in Tommy Langford for next year & no doubt more will follow, its not all doom & gloom :)

Would think he'd be waiting until after the rookie draft before committing to a 2nd tier comp
But he is exactly the type we should look at rather local leaguers

Cale Morton has departed Coburg, but is tipped to stay in the VFL, with Richmond apparently keen on the ex-Demon and Eagle.
Excellent pick-up for Richmond's @VFL squad in @SKOBFC player Kelvin Williams. The former NT Under 18 rep was an All Australian U23 this year
Another recruit from the VAFA for Richmond @VFL: Jonno Daggian from Old Scotch. Played in the AFL Vic Young Guns game. They're busy, the Tigers.
Richmond's James Wall has retired from the @VFL after 147 senior games (including stints at Casey and Willy). Was equal third in b&f this yr.

3763967326736736736 delisted AFL Players this year, let's sign them up for VFL next year & dangle a AFL lifeline to any of them that has a good year.

Good to see Tommy Couch back in @VFL ranks. The former Melbourne and VFL Magpie has hooked up with Richmond's state league team.

Played with Benalla in the finals of the GVFL.
while Nick Mellington was named among the best in his first match for the season after returning from the VFL.

His form in the VFL this year will put him in line for a rookie position. Was a standout with his hardness and skills. He is also a nice size for an inside mid.

The Richmond @VFL team lands a nice player in Tyson Thomas, the crafty and creative former Northern Blues forward. Played no football in 2015
https://twitter.com/PaulAmy375/with_replies
@swa11ace - Any Richmond whispers, Paul? New coach Craig McRae said on the club site they are "really looking to turn the list over"
@PaulAmy375 - Tom Couch, Tyson Thomas (ex-Northern Blues), Kelvin Williams (St Kevin's) and Jonno Daggian (Old Scotch) early additions pal

@sydontheroad - interesting clips of some VFL hopefuls, Tigers interested in Sam Crocker...
@BrettAndersonIF - Tigers have a VFL team. They recruit for them too. thats what it would be for. Same as Boyse from Bernies.

Oh Sam Crocker....that's who you meant in the other thread....

VFL
Paul Amy is a VFL journo, so he'd know about the VFL side of things
-
Pretty sure he also knows & reports about VFL players being picked up for AFL lists. Rippon's been mentioned in a few articles as a State League player that AFL clubs might look at this year.
Not sure about adding him to our AFL list - but he'd definitely improve our VFL side.
-

That he does
But I thin it is just for VFL list at this stage as the "tweet" says Rippon will start training "at Richmond on Monday. @VFL"
-
From Paul Amy's Twitter
Richmond @VFL lands a very good recruit in delisted Western Bulldog Sam Darley. The 22-year-old played 13 games for GWS and 7 for the Dogs.
======
Now that's more like it!

It looks like Rippon in the new Andrew Moore video. If he plays for our VFL team next year he will be the best recruit as the kid can play. Solid addition indeed. Tyson Thomas has decided against joining us which is a shame.
-
Rippon the kind of quality our VFL list needs more of - gun at that level. Probably as good as Lambert - possibly even better. :shh
Is Tyrone Downie returning or what?
-
Think I might kit up and head down to training. Will probably get a gig if I kick one through the big ones and strut away like all my work is done
-
Rippon must have been trying to get drafted by training with us, as he's now re-signed with North Ballarat.

Here's more news on our new VFL signings.
Also, Brock McLean is training with our VFL squad.
Son of a gun joins VFL Tigers
richmondfc.com.au
December 8, 2015
* Tom Couch, whose father Paul won the 1989 Brownlow while playing (and starring in the centre) for Geelong, is one of several players recruited to play VFL football for the Tigers next season. After being passed up by the Cats as a father-son selection in 2006, Couch became a football journeyman. He had stints with Geelong’s VFL team, local Geelong teams St Joseph’s and Bell Park, and SANFL clubs Woodville-West Torrens and Geelong, Bell Park, before joining Collingwood’s VFL team. His strong performances through the midfield with the VFL Magpies led to him being rookie listed by Melbourne. He subsequently earned a promotion to the Melbourne’s primary playing list, and made his senior league debut in 2012. That year, he also finished runner-up in the VFL’s Liston Trophy. Couch played three senior games all-up for the Demons, before being delisted at the end of the 2013 season. He then rejoined Collingwood’s VFL team, and further enhanced his reputation as one of the competition’s best midfielders. Richmond’s new VFL coach Craig McRae, who spent five years as the Magpies’ development manager, played a pivotal role in securing Couch’s services. Couch, who thrives on winning the contested ball, will add important grunt and leadership to the young Tigers’ VFL midfield.
Other Richmond VFL signings for 2016 include:
* Jacob Ballard, a 21-year-old midfielder, who has spent the past two years on Fremantle’s rookie list. He played one senior league game with the Dockers, in the final home-and-away round of the 2015 season, and he also won the best and fairest at his WAFL club Peel Thunder this year. Averaged 26 disposals per game for Peel Thunder in 2015.
* Sam Darley, a 22-year-old utility, who was a 17-year-old listed player at Greater Western Sydney back in 2011. He played 13 senior league games with the Giants in 2012-13, before transferring to the Western Bulldogs, where he made seven appearances at AFL level up until the end of the 2015 season. Averaged 24 disposals per game in the VFL with the Bulldogs throughout the year.
* Tom Langford, a 28-year-old half-back from standalone VFL club Port Melbourne. Previously played in the SANFL with Norwood and North Adelaide. Has more than 100 games experience at VFL and SANFL level.
* Kelvin Williams, an athletic, highly-skilled, 22-year-old Indigenous utility player originally from Darwin. Was a member of St Kevin’s 2015 premiership side in the VAFA. Represented Victoria in this year’s amateur football carnival and was named in the All-Australian under-23 team.
Those players continuing with Richmond’s VFL squad in 2016 include:
Nick Mellington,
Ryan Gale,
Tyson Kruse,
Anthony Scott,
Pat Contin,
Jake Aarts,
Gerard Gleeson,
Luke Conca,
Ryan Bathie
Andrew McQualter.
There are currently 43 players in the pre-season squad, with a list of 24 to be finalised in March.
Also among those players now training with the VFL Tigers is former Melbourne and Carlton tough, inside midfielder Brock McLean, a 29-year-old veteran of 157 AFL games from 2004-14.

My thoughts on those VFL players continuing on next year from last
Those players continuing with Richmond’s VFL squad in 2016 include:
Nick Mellington, - excellent player, better than Dunkley IMHO
Ryan Gale, Good in defence all last year
Tyson Kruse, Handy player in back half, raking left foot that occasionally hits the target :)
Anthony Scott, Ripper small forward at VFL level, can also go onball
Pat Contin, meh
Jake Aarts, ex Bendigo player, tough inside, can play outside & small forward
Gerard Gleeson, goes OK
Luke Conca - can tackle & harass, not much else
Ryan Bathie - hardly played last year after playing nearly all games in year 1
Andrew McQualter. meh
-
Contin's easily the best player on that list after Mellington when fully fit.
Luke Conca remaining our list is a joke and typically unprofessional Richmond decision.
-

After Mellington I meant, edited the post just before you submitted your reply. Always rated Contin - at his best is very clean & uses it well, thought he was unlucky to be delisted when he was.

Would agree with this but will add Contin when fit is a handy player. I liked Mellington, Gale, Scott and Aarts from this list. The games i watched i also liked McFarlane and Wynne. The additions will make us very competitive and i look forward to attending next year to see our next stars and say farewell to some aging ones.

Mercurial suburban forward Justin Van Unen (kicked the ton for Mt Eliza this year) training with Richmond's @VFL team. He's some player.

Probably....

The AFL website has Jacob Ballard, as well as Justin Van Unen, on its list of potential top-up players for Essendon.
So there's a chance we could lose one or two of our new VFL signings :P.
