Moore mixed his football with the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup in 2015, with representative duties at the National Championships with Vic Metro.
He could be considered as a late starter to football, as in his early years his football commitments were shared between rugby union and basketball.
While playing manly in the forward and in ruck with the Cannons, Moore has the athletic attributes to play as a key defender, which he did in limited time late in the season.
He performed strongly at the National Draft Combine, recording a 2.91sec time for the 20-metre sprint.
Moore is a strong overhead mark, has a strong speed and power combination, and will look to be developed both forward and in defence.

TWO days after he heard from Richmond for the first time this year, Calder Cannons forward Callum Moore became a Tiger.
Richmond contacted Moore on Wednesday, expressing interest in the 193cm Aberfeldie junior ahead of the AFL rookie draft.
The 19-year-old took a short break from working as a landscaper with his dad in Altona to watch the draft on his phone.
“I’m working at the moment,” Moore said.
“I saw my name pop up as I opened my phone, just on the app.”
“I got a call two days before the rookie draft, I hadn’t met up with them all year,” Moore said.
“They called me and they were interested, they obviously liked what I could do.
“I know one player there, Corey Ellis, which will help me feel comfortable there. It’s good.”
Moore said the period between the national and rookie draft had been difficult after he was initially overlooked.
“My heart sunk pretty deeply. Everybody said I was a pretty good pick and at the end of the day no one picked me at the end,” he said.
“I kept my head up high, was waiting for Friday to come and thank god someone took me.”
The Essendon resident has been earmarked for a defensive role by the Tigers.
“They see me as a backline player which I’m happy with,” he said.
“I can play at both ends of the field, I know what a forward can do.
“I’ll work on a few things that they want me to work on and hopefully be a good player at the end of the day.”
Moore was one of three Calder players chosen in the rookie draft, with midfielder Nick O’Kearney selected at pick No.5 by St Kilda and Tom Wallis joining Essendon as a father-son rookie.
“They all deserve the best,” Moore said.
“They’ve put the hard yards in and I wish them luck.”
Moore overcame a broken wrist at the start of the 2015 TAC Cup season, booting 13 goals from nine matches and featuring for Vic Metro at the Under-18 National Championships.

A talented junior basketballer, Moore only played five TAC Cup games in his underage year in 2014 after a late call up to the Cannons squad from the EDFL, but that was enough to have the Swans come calling prior to the rookie draft. Though they ultimately chose others in that draft, the sheer fact that the beaten grand finalists of that year were very keen on the young man gives an indication of the potential that AFL clubs see in the 193-centimetre tall that moves like a midfielder.
His sheer athleticism is truly something to behold in a big man, with his pace across the ground making him a handful for opposition big men, and his size proving a serious obstacle for smalls when he is shifted onto the ball. When combined with his genuinely spectacular contested marking ability and unearthly leap, Moore projects as a genuinely exciting prospect as a lead-up forward or a marking target across half forward and through the middle, with the ability to be dangerous as a third man up in ruck contests around the ground.
What is holding him back from being able to play early in his career is his low football IQ. Not surprisingly for a young bloke who didn’t concentrate solely on football until comparatively late, and one who has yet to settle into a particular role, his leading patterns and movement off the ball need work. His attack on the ball at this point in time is heavily weighted toward a ‘see ball, get ball’ approach, and more than you would like it results in him leading his man to a contest where he might be better off creating space.
The elephant in the room however is his kicking. Whilst it is generally acceptable, Moore is also capable of the kind of drop punt that would make Levi Casboult blush, as a couple of shots at goal in the heartstopping win for Vic Metro over SA illustrated, and that area of his game needs a drastic overhaul. The good news however is that it appears to be mechanical rather than mental, and the raw talent is there, so it is something a club will be willing to work with him on.
In a lot of ways, Moore’s breathtaking athleticism, great hands and sometimes atrocious kicking brings to mind former Adelaide cult hero Nick Gill, and should he be luckier with injuries, there is no reason to suggest that Moore can’t also make it in the AFL.

I was hoping Dan Butler would get a run seeing that he was already on the list and had been consistently in the bests at VFL level for over a month. As a 20 year old, what else could the kid do?
Having said that, I wish Callum all the best. Certainly has traits that if developed, could turn him into a special player.

I see him ultimately as a big bodied mid. He has the tank and the pace to do it. He just needs to be developed properly. Fyfe at the same age was similar. Terrible kick, good tank and big bodied and great mark. I see a lot of similarities there. The big unknown is how much desire does he have to push himself? Obviously, Fyfe had heaps. I hope Callum does too.

On Moore, I too was a bit disappointed with the one handed attempts, was Vickery-esque. Saying that, at least he puts the mitts out once in a while unlike chest mark Vickery.

When the Tigers decided they didn't have the manpower to play a second tall forward last year, Moore was one of the youngsters that was deemed not to be ready. After another pre-season, however, Damien Hardwick might be tempted to return to a tradition structure at times this season using Moore. The 21-year-old booted 2.1 from seven possessions in a second-half cameo that will be valuable in his preparation for the season. His first goal came from a 60m bomb that showed off his long kicking, while his second, a classy snap on the run, highlighted his ability to cover the ground and get free on the fast break.

Now that he is in; he needs to get a run of games
I am not sold; mainly because of kicking which is so often terrible but want to see him be given a clear run
Will be watching closely to see if the other things outside of his kicking that needed improving have improved.
From the limited VFL games I've seen in the past 12 months; his 2nd efforts (or lack of them) are a concern especially when the F50 defensive pressure is such a huge part of our game

Average game but difficult circumstances with jack going down early on putting all the focus on him from saints kps. Not a big fan of dropping young players after only 1 week, rekn u need a run of 2-3 to find your mojo but think he might be dropped for Dreamtime.

I thought he was solid enough. The gameplan would have changed considerably when Jack went down, and I thought he had a few issues adapting, but I was actually surprised that he played as well as he did in the end.

So far off the pace of the game in the first half (as was Menadue) it wasnt funny.
Disappointing bit for me was the lack of 2nd efforts and at times first efforts. Nearly blew a valve in the 2nd when he just stood there and played spectator while the Saints got a easy clearance.
To be honest if Jack is fit and with Castagna available next week (George told us that pregame) and perhaps Rioli I can't see him holdong his spot
As for Menadue... I'll save that for the other thread ;D

I've had a question mark over Moore until now but tonight he was pretty good and clearly deserves to keep his spot as our 2nd tall forward. He was involved in the game for the full 4 quarters, contested well and brought the ball down to our smalls if he couldn't mark it (took 6 marks by the way). Obviously his goalkicking is the main issue to fix now. Finished with 2.3. He could have kicked 4 or 5 if he nailed most of his shots.

Good encouraging performance. Compare that to what we were getting from Elton who somehow managed to stay in the side for 6 weeks.

He's got a bloody big leg on him though! Surprised when he calmly went back to line up from outside 50 without even going the big hooky foot the get the distance. Straight approach and puts it over the fence from 53m out :o Missed the shot but poo happens ;D

Consistent overall improvement
“He’s shown some real signs of improvement every season that he’s been on the list. He’s got amazing speed and agility, so that’s his plus side. His offensive stuff is really good . . . He’s a guy who can break the lines, kick goals and do all that stuff. But his ability to chase and pressure, and use that speed for his defensive good, has been much better. And now, with maturity, he’s getting a bit more competitive as well.”

As a guy at 193cm, you want to be good in the air . . . and that was probably his big improvement area – his aerial work . . . It’s great that this part of his game is improving because it means that he’s starting to really close down the gaps.”

“He had a taste (of AFL football) two years ago, but he didn’t play senior footy last year. He then played in the (JLT Community Series) pre-season game this year (v North Melbourne). I think those things build confidence, and he’s been in terrific form in the VFL, so he deserves his shot.”

“He’s got really elite run, and one thing about most of our forwards, basically, is they’re great runners, great spreaders from the contest, and they get inside 50 quickly. So that’s why we get on the end of a lot of dynamic plays. He adds to that mix.”

I agree it is still early days with Moore. I hope he makes it. He had really impressive final series in the VFL last year and if could transform that ability to an AFL level it would be fantastic. He has definitely shown more than Elton and his goal against the Bombers in the last quarter showed that.

If you watched Richmond play last Friday night, you would probably think that Callum Moore has always belonged on the football field.
Playing his fourth game for the season and just the sixth of his career, Moore took five marks and kicked a pair of goals in a big win over Adelaide. The young forward has plans to cement a place in the reigning premiers’ lineup after an injury-affected 2017 season.
Long before he was centre stage on the MCG, however, Moore was a much less imposing figure on the field.
In his first year of playing football in under-10s, he admitted to being ‘the one in goal square playing with the dirt, kicking it around and not really concentrating.’ He simply didn’t enjoy it that much.
But when he came close to calling it quits ahead of his second season of junior football, his dad resorted to a tactic that many parents would know.
“Dad came across and said ‘look, if you play good I’ll buy you Maccas after the game,’” Moore told AFLPlayers.com.au.
“And what do you know, I played well and got the Maccas! And I’ve played some pretty good footy since then.”
After pushing past his early reluctance and continuing on the football field, he soon found a second home on the basketball court. While it was his dad that encouraged his football career, it was his classmates that sparked his interest in basketball.
“When it first started it was just out on the court at lunchtime with my mates, then one thing led to another and I was playing domestic, and then I got a call-up for Coburg to come down and train with them in the rep side,” Moore added.
For a while Moore tried to balance his dual sporting careers, along with schoolwork, family and friends. As with most young athletes, however, it reached a point where some tough decisions needed to be made.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t football that won out when push came to shove. At least, not initially.
“I decided to leave the Calder Cannons in under-16s to play basketball. I played for Coburg and then realised I wasn’t ever going to go up against LeBron James, so I gave that the flick,” he said.
Once he was focussed solely on football once again, Moore’s career picked up steam very quickly. He was thrust back into the Cannons line-up almost immediately and a strong finish to 2014 saw him gain the attention of AFL recruiters.
While his 2015 season was plagued by inconsistencies in role and form, he found a healthy balance off the field. After finishing Year 12 and completing his schooling the year before, he was able to focus more on his real interests.
That meant more time spent on football and working alongside his father as a landscaper.
“I was pretty lucky to work with dad and chill out with him for the year while focussing on my footy. He’s a really hard worker and really easy to get along with,” Moore said.
It was while at work with his dad when Moore found out the biggest news of his life — that he had been selected by Richmond in the 2015 rookie draft.
“We were sitting in the truck that day and I was just refreshing it and refreshing it. It got up to Richmond, they read my name and I was that excited,” he said.
“Dad said ‘what, what’s going on?’ I told him Richmond took me, he said ‘pack up the tools, we’re going home!’”
While Moore had hoped to be picked in the national draft three days earlier, his fears of going undrafted were allayed by a phone call he received the following day.
After not showing much interest throughout the draft process, the Tigers called and instantly won him over.
“I hadn’t spoken to Richmond all year, but they told me to come in for an interview down at the club. There were interstate clubs thinking about rookie picks, but I really wanted it to be Richmond,” he said.
After debuting and playing two games in 2016, an ankle injury kept him sidelined for the early part of last season. While the rehab process was a challenge, Moore saw opportunity in the setback.
“A lot of people say rehab’s a dark place but I thought it actually worked for me to work on some things,” he said.
“Being in the gym, getting fitter, getting stronger — from that fitness and rehab, I thought my game improved as a player.”
Those improvements resulted in Moore play a key role in the Richmond VFL side, which made a stunning finals run before falling at the last hurdle.
Although the grand final loss to Port Melbourne stung and missing the AFL premiership hurt too, the 21-year-old says he’s content with his season.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous of them winning the flag but it is what it is.
“Both teams were very successful and I was really enjoying my footy through the VFL.”
With his injury concerns behind him and a career-best game in the books, Moore may have found his place at the top level this season.
And with the Tigers sitting on top of the AFL ladder, he be dreaming of the possibilities that could arise this September.

Carlton will consider offering an AFL lifeline to former Richmond player Callum Moore, with the forward one of three players set to do battle for the last place on the club's list ahead of the 2020 season.
AFL.com.au understands Moore will begin training with the Blues at Ikon Park this Saturday in the hope of earning a second chance on a list as a pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) signing, just four months after he was delisted by the Tigers.
