Title: New Whipping boy nominees
Post by: mat073 on February 09, 2016, 01:37:28 PM
Seriously - where is this boy at ?

About to enter his 7th season. Done diddly squat.

Kicked 3 goals only once. Kicks more points than goals ( fact )

Misses critical goals from straight in front . He does this all the time.

Looks like Tarzan , plays like Jane.

I just assumed Conca was already on the list

Doesn't the pecking order go a little  like this ....

Chapman
Grigg
Hampson
Conca
Batchelor
Houli

With Newy retired and Vickery now doing enough to appease the masses -  I'm sure we can now find a spot for Griff.

It's no secret I think Griff is a dud. I'd like to be wrong.
It's fair to say he will get every opportunity to show what he can bring as he seems to be one of Dimma's favorites without really showing much at all in his 6 years at the club.
IMO he just doesn't have the desperation or desire to be a decent AFL footballer.

I've been a fan from day 1 but my patience is waning. Just when he seems to get his game going a little (first quarter at Subiaco against Freo) he injures himself. He cannot get consistency and thus confidence in his body.
Well he has only this year to step up and contribute. If he doesn't he gets traded come years end. Having a fragile body is just as bad as not having talent. I think he has a heap of talent but seems to be ridiculously brittle.

Must acquire the want to throw his body into packs with wreckless, gay abandon.

I think its pretty obvious he isn't going to be great but maybe he can play a role and be backup for TV if he goes down until McKenzie or someone else can come good.  We do develop players now and they do improve as they gain experience so I'd definitely keep him on the list.  His game needs better body on body contact, he's not a natural at it.  Still he's got a good leap and maybe he could make a second ruck.

He's never going to be Wayne Carey though.

You know if you compare his stats with Maric except for hit outs they are much of a muchness.
If only he could ruck

Maric
    Kicks 6.7
    Handballs 6.4
    Disposals 13.0
    Marks 2.9
    Hit-Outs 25.4
    Tackles 2.8
    Goals 0.5
    AFL Fantasy 80.6

Griff
    Kicks 6.5
    Handballs 3.2
    Disposals 9.7
    Marks 4.5
    Hit-Outs 5.5
    Tackles 1.8
    Goals 0.9
    AFL Fantasy 57.4

The maligned Brad Miller 31 goals in 17 games for the Tigers.

Aaron Edwards 15 goals in 12 games for the yellow and black.

Big Ben 28 goals in 48 games for Richmond.

I actually liked Brad Miller. Played his role very well and would have got more games if I was coach TBH haha.

Maric is miles ahead of Griff as ruck.

And Vickery is miles ahead of Griff as forward.

Still doesn't say a lot about any of them as Maric is an average ruck, Vickery is an average forward/ruck, and Griff is worse than both at basically anything except taking a reasonable grab from time to time. Oh and he can kick long.

Does Vickery have to win the Coleman to earn your respect ?

Vickery was one of the positives of 2015 - 17 goals in the last 5 games is not exactly the "odd cheap goal"

The boy from Swan Districts will be breathing down his neck.

Batch can play tall and small which is pretty handy provided his opponent is "ordinary "

I don't think anybody should be a whipping boy at all, but my thoughts on Morris are that his time has come and gone, his style of play is for another era some time passed and i don't believe his ball skills are where they should be for AFL level. VFL player.

Batch - 14 disposal and 4 tackles (in which Hardwick asked him to play out of his depth on Waite)
Cotchin - 9 disposals and 0 tackles.

But Batch gets the greater proportion of criticism.

Overweight. Nutritionally undisciplined.

Punches guys in the back of their head.

Rewarded with game time ahead of those who work harder, when not ready.

Can't hit a target over 30 metres away when under no pressure

Unfulfilled talent.

If you started one of these on Cotchin I would agree. He will be my new whipping boy this year.
He, Maric, Deledio must step up and play to their absolute best all year and then when finals arrive they all need to find something extra to perform to their best and lead us to victory.

Won the crucial round 7 clash against Collingwood singlehandedly .

Third quarter against Sydney was legendary.

Showed real leadership against Hawthorn.

Obviously needs more support.

Whipping boys don't influence games like Cotchin. Sure he had a bad final but this thread is comical.

2015 Elimination final

Batch - 14 disposal and 4 tackles (in which Hardwick asked him to play out of his depth on Waite)
Cotchin - 9 disposals and 0 tackles.

But Batch gets the greater proportion of criticism.

Coach? Captain?

How many times during that final was Batchelor tagged again?

As far as I can see the only one complaining here is you. I have not contributed negatively to any of the threads you are posting about. In fact I've only made a comment about Conca and a constructive observation of Griffiths. The mods have cleaned them up too. Instead of whinging and being rude, why don't you report them to the mods and have them look at them if you find them distasteful. It is the off season if you haven't noticed. Posters are having a bit of fun on here because they are bored. I don't care if you have 9000 or 90000 posts too. If you have a beef with the posters that are doing this "posting that has turned away others and have made this forum not worth contributing to", why don't you PM them and tell them how you feel? Instead, you have a go at me and start getting personal just because I made the comment that Chucky's post was satirical (which was bloody obvious), but you didn't think it was funny. You're getting aggressive and rude to a poster that does not do what you are whining about anyway. Why don't you direct your anger at those who create the posts that you think are inappropriate rather than me?

I think it's very sad that a poster like Smokey , who over the years has been a marvellous contributor to this forum has become so ambivalent.

Yellowandblackblood , I also hear you - it's been a long and boring off season ( not helped by some excruciatingly boring cricket ) . I don't know how many times we can say - "we need to win a final "
This forum needs a game of football badly. The season can't come soon enough.
I get annoyed too when I get jumped on for saying anything remotely positive ( which is ironic because I started the recent whipping boy series )

Lol.  I have no idea of the relevancy of what any comments you made in any of the threads has to this except to try and paint yourself a picture of victimisation.  I never addressed anything to you personally at any point except in reply to your rude comments "Whatever makes your world go around...." and then "if you can't see that, nobody can help you out", suggesting I was a fool because I couldn't see what Chuck was saying.  As I pointed out, I am quite able to see what Chuck was getting at and I never directed a comment at him because I didn't have an issue with it, despite your attempt to paint me otherwise.  My comment right from the start (and remains so) is an observation that we had 6 separate threads discussing whipping boys at the club in which there had been ongoing discussions, serious or not.  On a number of levels it highlighted to me why I don't enjoy much of the conversation on here any more and that was all my point was and still is.  You made it personal and then chose to be the victim so that's your problem not mine.

You still haven't directed the message to the posters responsible. Just getting on here and whinging isn't going to help anyone. FWIW I can't be bothered with posters that whinge about posting! If you don't like it, do something about it and stop whining to everybody else. I don't like you whinging so I have told you that. That is the way we settle things, not just making random comments. You also made your complaint in Chucky's thread so despite you saying you didn't direct it at him, it sure seemed that way to all because you posted it in his thread and not on the others at the time.

I don't have to or intend to, direct any message to any posters 'responsible' - there was never anything to direct.  I made an observation and you are the only one who has chosen to take offence and whinge about it.  My comment wasn't random or directed at anyone but it appears that this doesn't suit the picture you want to paint so you intend to build into a mountain of drama in effort to achieve I don't know what.  As for posting in Chucky's thread - would you have preferred I posted it in all 6 threads so as not to upset Chucky for no good reason (who doesn't appear to be upset or offended by what I said going by a lack of response or communication from him on it)?

Hmm so if i take it to the next step im thinking our best 22 can't be great.

We can only judge him by what he has done and to date hes been damn ordinary. If you want to talk about him improving then we are all going to have to wait and see if it happens.
FJ was all gooey and gushy about Conca being an inside mid in this hes been an absolute failure imo.I still think his best chance of playing real good footy is as a defender.
