Would love to see Castagna, Broad, Moore, Markov, Butler , McBean and Chol get a run at it this year.

Reckon Moore has the makings of a quality KP backman

Six-goals-to-one in an electric 2nd term. McBean and Chol on-fire. We lead by a goal and looking dangerous 7.3.(45) to 5.9.(39)

I hope he kicks a bag today so Dimma has no choice but to play him after that crap last night.
Although I don't give him much chance the way our forwardline is setup.

Yeah replace a backman with a forward.... :whistle :whistle :whistle

We need a back, we are too small in the backline, no doubt he will bring Morris or Batch back because they play "tall" apparently.

If our delivery inside our forward 50 wasn't so putrid we wouldn't have to focus so much on the defensive pressure of our forwards. Sure they need to be defensive at times but really they shouldn't be chasing tail everytime it goes in there.

We seem to have lost the forest for the trees, they are there ultimately to kick goals and McBean has shown he can do that.

Ivan Maric closes in on AFL return after strong VFL showing

Brent Diamond
The Age
16 April 2016

Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric appears set to return against Melbourne next Sunday at the MCG after having a strong influence in the Tigers' upset 52-point win over Footscray at Punt Road Oval on Saturday.

Maric, in his second VFL match on return from a pre-season back injury, dominated in the ruck in the second half with his strength and agility to turn the match around after the Dogs led by as much as 26 points early on.

"The instructions were [for him] to play forward and to play ruck, so he's doing that and he had a big influence in the clearances when he went in there," Tigers VFL coach Craig McRae said.

"He had 11 disposals for the game but he certainly won a lot of clearances on the back of his effort.

"Today he played above the level," he said.

The former Crow played out the full match after being on limited game time last week against Williamstown.

Maric said he was desperate to return to the senior team for the Tigers, who appear derailed with a 1-3 record but he believes "it's not time to panic".

Tigers midfielder and pacesetter Brett Deledio is considered a chance to return through the VFL over the next fortnight.

McRae praised the work ethic of midfielder Anthony Miles, who rebounded after being omitted from the senior team.

"Anthony Miles worked his way into the game and ended up with 29 disposals. I think he ended up having 12 tackles and nine clearances. He's symbolic of the team a little bit," he said.

Liam McBean kicked five goals in a strong return to form.

"He started to come to the football," McRae said.

"In recent weeks, he hasn't been able to get to as many contests and today he decided he wanted to be the one to get the ball instead of waiting for it to come to him and he got rewarded with five goals."

McRae said the challenge for Adam Marcon, a mature-age recruit from Williamstown, will be "to play above the level and get ready for an opportunity to come" after 19 disposals in a more attacking role.

McRae praised Tigers' VFL star Tom Couch, the son of the late former Geelong champion Paul, for his resilience (27 disposals) after his father's passing earlier this year.

"I've known Tom for a long while and he's an amazing resilient person," McRae said.

"He's got great character. It's been a difficult time for him, but the way he's conducted himself. He's a personal trainer himself so he's keeping himself fit the best he can.

"He's been super for us in the first couple of games."

Journeyman Couch returned to the VFL this season after a stint in the Geelong Football League.

"He was keen to give it another crack. His body hasn't enabled him to do that in recent years. He got himself really fit and he had a really good pre-season and he's enjoying the output on the back of that," he said.

McRae has signalled that his team has focused more on success in the VFL this season – but acknowledges his teams' best on Saturday was on the back of the inclusion of some AFL experience.

"I've said this many times, our focus is to improve each day. And we got better from last week and we got better from the week before. We've got some experience in the team, which is helping this young list at the moment," he said.

Western Bulldogs forward Tory Dickson also made his return from a minor quad injury – and made an instant impression with a goal at the 25-minute mark of the first term.

Dickson was on limited game time, but got through the match unscathed.

Rebounding defender Josh Prudden wasn't so lucky after he suffered a knee injury and was sent off for scans after the match to determine the extent of the damage.

The Bulldogs trailed by just a goal at the main break with Mitch Honeychurch collecting 14 touches in the first half.

The Tigers ran away with the match in the second half, winning 17.10 (112) to 7.18 (60).

So this from the Hun, why is it taz that you are the only one saying Batch is any good?? Are you related to him?

ON THE CUSP: Some good news! Richmond’s VFL team came from 19 points down at quarter-time to win by 52 with Ivan Maric tuning up for his senior return with an influential display. Anthony Miles responded to his demotion with 30 touches, Jayden Short had 20, Steven Morris 20 and Jacob Townsend and exciting draftee Oleg Markov 19 each. And Damien Hardwick has to think about seeing what Liam McBean can do at senior level after he bagged five goals. Brett Deledio is again being talked about as a possible inclusion but he is unlikely to be rushed back after playing just half a game this season.

I will be sticking with my thoughts on Batchelor and that's that. I said the same about Morris when he was added to the leadership group and about the way he plays, I was crucified for my thoughts on him, well look at him now...not saying I am right but to date Batchelor to me is not an AFL player, he is a player that we have to use because of our incompetent player management, trading, drafting, free agency stuff up's.

The team is full of mediocre players and Batchelor is a another one of them. I would rather put Elton in the side for the remainder of the year than play Batchelor again. Same goes for Morris.

No other club would even look at Morris or Bachelor but that all we have and that's why we are in a mess. Many supporters are also blind folded regarding these two.

Not true WAT. Any club would look at both players. Sometimes players don't fit in with other players or game plans for several reasons. One being there are several type of that player, Which most clubs have or they need to be helped in certain area's of their game on field.  Be it skill or endurance to not hydrating properly. There is no perfect footballer for any side & talent scouts pick those who tick the boxes. Batchlor could go to another club & dominate just look at Jay Schulzs. Rhys Palmer was a more dominating player at Fremantle yet goes mostly unnoticed at GWS but get the job done. Heath Shaw when at Collingwood is more dominating at GWS because he has applied himself better & taken on the more of the leadership role. Cotchin would be more damaging if he had a player or 2 to protect him more hence why Townsend came to the club to play a role. Dustin Martin would also benefit from a player blocking to give him just that extra second to balance up & be far more damaging. But saying Morris & Batchlor are not up to AFL standard is a bit far fetched considering their names are on the selection table most weeks. Yes they loose confidence & whatever else goes on in their life style, We all don't know about. But l can tell you from what a seen personally that these 2 players are up to the task of senior football & clubs would have approached them at one time or another. Injury also plays a part in most players & both of them have had their own share. l would have Batchlor in my backline every week if l was the Richmond coach.  ;D

I still think Morris can play a roll against some teams. If he can keep a Betts quiet he plays in my team. He gives 100% effort which is more a can say of a lot of other more well paid players.
He is the only option we have against these guys. He is not a forward, he is not a high BF, he stops the comps best small forwards. If a side doesn't have a genuine one, don't play him.

On Batch, I agree with WA, he is a depth player at best IMO. But with a few injuries to Grimes and Astbury, he should get a game this week. Exactly what a depth player is.
He doesn't give much other then a stopper on a 3rd medium tall.

Just my opinion.

Batchlor is in my top 22 at present as he offers more than Astbury. Astbury spends more time staring at others including his opponent & is injured every time we cop a flogging. He has simply missed way too much football & need to regain form in the Reserves.

I don't rate mediocrity as many do on this forum. It seem that every time we have a start like this to the season or we go bad, everyone jumps up and down and then when it all settles during the week they revert to accepting VFL players such as Batch and Morris as the answer. Well I don't, that's all.

We still have half a dozen players that keep getting brought up as the answer or because they played "steady" they are all of a sudden are the answer. Well I'm over these players and until the club acts and changes the culture, recruitment and they actually put their money where their mouth is I won't be accepting these crap loses with crap players anymore.

If we played Short, Castagna, Elton, Butler, McBean (play him forward and move Jack out to CHF with Vickery in the ruck) and we elevated Marcon and played him I would be happier, but we persist with the same crap week after week thinking its going to get better and that is the way forward and I don't think it is.

Just my opinion though. ;D

Exactly & considering he was a big part in a good win over a strong Footscray side is even better.
How good was that win. it's funny how some supporters like WAT spend their time bagging the players when they have had a good 52 point win with a awesome last quarter compared to our last quarter flops. That itself is a huge plus on the playing group & great for the club. Maric will return to the senior side & this will put the ruck job back on our young rucks. Miles will be recalled to boost the midfield & l'm sure Townsend will be in the mix as will others. A strong performance over our bogey side Frankston, We must beat them & get the 4 points to put players back on track

 :gotigers

You have got to be on something and if your not.....you should be. VFL VFL VFL VFL. If VFL form meant anything then why didn't Dea get a call up last year after being BOG every week???

Cause the coach is a imbecile

The same reason why Chaplin plays forward and McBean plays reserves very year

Dea has proven he is ok afl level this season. Houli has proven he's a lady squib

You don't know much about football if your asking me why Dea never got called up. Let me explain. The back line was solid when Dea was playing well. They let him go so he could play football elsewhere as we have too many players of his type. Nobody wanted him as a trade. Grimes, Astbury, Batchlor, Rance, Chaplin, & he couldn't push any of them out. When he did get given a game he didn't do much to keep his place. Maybe that tells you he is a very good VFL player just like many others. That is there level. AFL is a huge level up from VFL. Is he getting a game now at AFL level ? State your case. You are fighting for worms here blackbird. How is his form down at Essendon cause l don't watch drug cheating sides.

It wasn't solid

Chaplin was awful.
Houli squibbed it constantly.
The coach played bachelor on a resting ruckman
Grigg, b Ellis types refused to defend from the middle chasing cheap kicks

The proof is getting smashed in three finals

Our better players , made it look better than it is, especially rance

The VFL Report: Round 2
Brenton Mann, richmondfc.com.au
19 April 2016 1:36 PM

Richmond’s VFL coach Craig McRae provides an exclusive summary of the AFL-listed players who featured in last Saturday’s second-round win over Footscray.

Anthony Miles
30 disposals, 19 contested possessions, 12 tackles, nine clearances

Anthony returned from AFL duties, had 30 disposals but started a little slowly. He worked his way into the game and had significant impact. He looks ready for AFL opportunity.

Liam McBean
Five goals, 17 disposals, eight marks, two contested marks

Liam’s best game this season and we’re really pleased that he’s coming at the ball instead of waiting for the ball to come to him. His work-rate really increased this week.

Jake Batchelor
19 disposals, 11 marks, five tackles, 10 uncontested possessions

Jake played his best game for the year — having 11 marks and setting everything up from the back — he was hard to score against. He looks ready for AFL opportunity.

Jayden Short
21 disposals, 16 uncontested possessions, six marks, three tackles

Jayden returned from the AFL and was the carry over player so he had to fly back on the red-eye and really contributed well. He had three tackles, kicked 1.2 and set-up many others.

Steven Morris
20 disposals, 12 uncontested possessions, seven marks, three tackles

Continues his leadership — he’s such a strong voice and an inspiration on the field with his effort. He’s playing really good footy at the moment.

Oleg Markov
19 disposals, six marks, 12 uncontested possessions, three tackles

Oleg continued his good form, he seems like he’s getting better every week. He’s really athletic, carries the ball, runs long and he was really important in the structure as a wingman.

Jacob Townsend
19 disposals, 12 uncontested and 10 contested possessions, five tackles

Jacob played his first VFL game for the club and was really tough inside — all the things you’d expect from him. I still think there’s more growth in him in that role.

Nathan Broad
18 disposals, 15 uncontested possessions, five marks, nine handball receives

Played his best game for the club. He played on a wing and then went to half-back. Looked really composed on the wing and used the ball well. It was really pleasing for him to take a step forward.

Adam Marcon
19 disposals, four clearances, three tackles

Played a little bit forward, mid and wing so a few different roles for him this week but he still ended up with 19 disposals and four clearances. He impacted everywhere he went.

Jason Castagna
17 disposals, 12 uncontested possessions, four tackles, one goal

Played forward mainly. He got a lot of ball as a forward and impacted the scoreboard too, kicking 1.2 and laying four tackles. His pressure is something that’s been a highlight.

Todd Elton
15 disposals, six marks, seven contested and seven uncontested possessions

Todd was another that took a step forward with his game. He got a lot more of the footy this week, but it was his aggression in the contest which was the most pleasing thing.

Dan Butler
Two goals, 13 disposals, eight contested possessions

Dan returned from suspension, had 13 disposals, two goals and was really important with his work rate and energy at the front of the packs.

Mabior Chol
10 disposals, five tackles, two goals

Mabior had a slow start, lacked intensity, but he looked like he sparked himself into gear in the second half. He’s not far away from having a big impact in one of these games. He dropped a lot of marks that he could have taken but still ended up with two goals and is improving.

Ivan Maric
11 disposals, four clearances, 11 hit-outs

Looks ready to return to AFL level, he’s fit and well and covering the ground.

Callum Moore
Nine disposals, eight uncontested possessions, four marks

Returned from illness and played as a key-back. Going for his marks and taking the game on are his strengths and it was pleasing to see those things.

Ivan Soldo
15 hit-outs, three tackles, one goal

Continued his development as a ruckman. Had 15 hit-outs, the most on the ground, and was really important to clearance work.

Richmond VFL takes on Frankston at Frankston Oval this Saturday, April 23 from 2pm

4-5 I would have in before Batchelor and Morris.

Miles
Short
McBean
Townsend
Butler
Elton
Castagna

Take your pick.

But the RCGG and apologists will of course want Morris and Batch in.. :snidegrin

Yeah, what's the point in telling this bloke to go at the ball and at least contest. No point trying to improve his contested marking.

I like the cut of maccrae's jib...so far. I would like to see  him develop un hampered by Dimma's circa 2008 game plan as he moves forward, but he will find it a difficult task.
