Just like the seniors, the ressies are out-numbered, outmuscled and can't get the ball forward  :help.

Soldo just had our first ping at the sticks at the 17 minute mark (OOTF).

This will be a 100 pt loss against Melbourne's ressies  :help.

Quarter time

Richmond    2.2-14
Casey          3.3-21

Goals: A.Moore, Silvestro

Non-competitive in the first 15 mins but somehow stayed in it and turned the game around by lifting our tackling pressure and starting to win some 50/50 contests.

McBean - been involved in 4 of our goals.

Marcon, A.Moore and Townsend (2nd qtr) have been getting the ball out of the middle. All three would be our major possession winners.

Chol - significantly better this week. First time he's looked comfortable playing in defence and not looking lost.

Soldo - competitive in the ruck.

Rioli, Lennon - quiet.

Cal Moore - his kicking has been terrible including two set shots directly in front that went OOTF.

Butler - meh!

Drummond - I think he copped a knock early.

Markov - a couple of good outside plays bounding off half-back/wing being fed the ball.

Chaplin - will play out his last 8 weeks here in the VFL. Time to retire.

It makes a difference when our VFL-listed players are all up and about.

The bounced ball that was paid a mark directly in front to Casey was the worst one. Cost us the game.

Having said that we still had half a dozen chances to kick the winner where we were out the back and had free players everywhere yet missed targets or found the one Casey player behind the ball  :banghead.

Add Cal Moore kicked just one point from 4 set shots.

There was a few very costly umpire decisions that won them the game when we had the momentum. The umpires were shocking & clearly going for Casey in the last quarter. Anyway game over. l was very pleased with the effort of many. Rioli shouldn't be given senior games off that performance. He needs to work on his mistakes. McBean is a must.  Soldo was very solid & Chol got into the game & was very good in the 2nd half

But gee a couple of our senior blokes made some howlers decision wise in the last 5 minutes. Townsend & Moore A the 2 main offenders

Video: Daniel Rioli gets a clearance for Richmond’s VFL side, kicks it 50 metres the wrong way

Source: FOX SPORTS

IN his first season Daniel Rioli has produced some of that classic Rioli family magic for Richmond.

But in a game for the Tigers’ VFL side on Sunday, he did the exact opposite. Unless you’re a Casey Scorpions fan.

In the second quarter Rioli had an excellent-looking clearance out of a centre bounce, with the slight issue that he was going the wrong way.

He slammed the ball 50 metres forward into Casey’s forward half and the Scorpions took advantage, goaling thanks to that inside 50.

In a very close game it was pretty costly — especially since Richmond ended up losing the match by two points.

Ouch.

constant REPLAYS showed the ball clearly hit the ground.
yet in the live footage it did not, and if you look at where the umpire was, he had pretty much the same vision as the live camera.

I'd be more concerned about the plephora of mistakes our players made than this one incident where an umpire had his view obscured by the players

Forget the action on the field, the most embarrassing and infuriating actions I saw were in the balcony from our wonder coach and his merry men.
Standing around laughing and carrying on like muppets during the game and not even watching the games at times, is this clown for real?

Not stuffing good enough from a bloke who should be taking the situation seriously considering its been less than 24 hours after another pathetic outing from the 1's.
Dead set amateur  hour  at Punt road atm and it speaks volumes about our team selection each week.

VFL Tigers pipped by Scorpions

Brenton Mann
richmondfc.com.au
July 4, 2016

Richmond’s VFL side fell two points short of pulling off a stellar upset against ladder-leader Casey at Punt Road Oval last Sunday.

The Tigers threw everything at the Scorpions, but a handful of missed opportunities in the nail-biting final few minutes saw Casey salute, 11.12 (78) to 11.10 (76).

The Richmond side showcased it was keen to build on its strong final term last week, with consistency of pressure, effort and intensity at front of mind.

The fact that the Tigers were down two rotations in the final term, as Jacob Ballard (concussion) and Adam Marcon (shoulder) were left to watch on, made their effort all that more admirable.

The Tigers fought tooth and nail in the tense final term, but Casey simply took its chances when they presented, as Richmond simply couldn’t land the killer blow.

The final term was littered with near misses, crucial contests and match-defining moments, as both sides wrestled to gain the upper-hand.

Richmond’s fate was sealed when Ryan Gale was disallowed an intercept mark inside Casey’s forward 50, as the Scorpions clung to their two-point lead, and the siren sounded moments later.

The game began as many thought it would, with Casey exerting its dominance around the ball and stifling Richmond’s spring from its back-half line.

The Scorpions' intense pressure suffocated the Tigers, as the hosts struggled to garner any flow or overlap through the middle of the ground.

Casey slammed on the first three majors in the opening 10 minutes as the Tigers were left scrounging for answers.

Unlike last week however, the Tigers rallied and gradually, through pressure and effort, got the game played on their terms and were ignited by wingman Tom Silvestro’s exquisite opening major.

The Tigers rattled the Scorpions with their manic pressure, allowing Liam McBean to find Andrew Moore deep in attack as the bullocking on-baller cut the margin to just seven points.

Richmond dominated the inside-50 count 8–0 in the final 10 minutes of the term, as it grasped the momentum.

Richmond VFL coach Craig McRae implored his charges to turn up the heat around the ball in the second term — and the Tigers did just that.

Richmond livewire Daniel Rioli led the charge in the pressure stakes in the second stanza as he hunted and harassed the Scorpions into submission.

Rioli laid a remarkable eight first-half tackles and ended the game with 13, in what was an eye-catching return to football.

The Tigers went on to slot four goals to three and trailed by three points at the main change.

The hosts were +6 in contested ball and +5 in tackles in the second term, both key areas of focus in the lead-up.

Richmond dominated the early-going in the third term but failed to capitalise, as Casey kicked a trio of majors midway through the quarter and streaked to a 19-point lead.

With the game dangling by a thread, the Tigers needed to arrest back the momentum — in stepped Jason Castagna.

The Richmond dynamo rekindled his side's hopes with a duo of scintillating majors and when McBean massaged his set-shot through, he cut the margin to just two points.

Rioli’s long range shot in the shadows of three-quarter time tied up the scores as it just slid across the face of goal.

It was all set-up for a pulsating final term.

Casey took the early lead before Richmond’s enigmatic forward Dan Butler was “Johnny on the spot” with his right-foot soccer slicing the margin to a solitary point.

The scent of an upset was in the air when Castagna classily snapped his third, handing the Tigers a four-point lead at the 19-minute mark, but unfortunately Casey hit back.

The Scorpions snatched a three-point lead at the 22-minute mark, but Richmond still refused to yield.

Unfortunately, the Tigers simply lacked the right amount of polish at the right time, as the Scorpions held on in a dramatic finish.

Castagna verified his AFL-credentials as he bundled three goals with 23 disposals, while McBean (two goals) and Andrew Moore (team-high 24 disposals) also pushed their claim.

Richmond won the tackle count 81–69 in what was a key focus leading into clash.

The Tigers head to Whitten Oval to face Footscray on Saturday, July 9 at 2pm.

The VFL Report: Round 13

Brenton Mann
richmondfc.com.au
July 5, 2016

Craig McRae's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players who featured in last Sunday’s match against Casey.

AFL-listed

Andrew Moore
24 disposals, nine clearances, eight tackles, one goal

Continued his great form at this level — it’s probably been four weeks in a row now that he’s been our most consistent for four quarters. He was significant on the day.

Jason Castagna
Three goals, 23 disposals, seven tackles, four clearances, four inside 50s

Also continued his good form. He had 23 disposals, four clearances, seven tackles and ended up with three goals — a couple at crucial times in the game - playing mainly in the midfield, with a bit of time spent forward.

Nathan Drummond
19 disposals, five marks, 13 uncontested possessions

Played a role off half-back, he copped a bit of a heavy knock and showed great resilience to get through that. At important moments in the game his elite running ability really shone through, in what was a good performance.

Oleg Markov
19 disposals, six tackles, eight handball receives

Went to half-back this week. He’s also been thrown around a little bit throughout the season and it was really pleasing to see him showcase all his strengths. His run-and-carry and ball-use was certainly a highlight.

Liam McBean

19 disposals, two goals, five marks, three clearances

Played one of his most consistent games for the year. He had 19 disposals and ended up with five marks, plus 2.2, but he gave away three others directly through handball or unselfish play. He’s starting to work like an AFL footballer and he looks ready for an AFL opportunity if it presents.

Adam Marcon
18 disposals, 11 handball receives, three tackles

Was a standout player for two-and-a-half quarters before receiving a heavy knock to the shoulder. It doesn’t look too bad, and it looks like he’ll be available this week, but we certainly missed him in the second half when the whips were cracking.

Jacob Townsend
15 disposals, four marks, five tackles

Played mainly forward this game. He had 15 disposals and had opportunities to score or pass off and unfortunately didn’t take those chances. He was really important with his defence with his five tackles inside 50.

Troy Chaplin
14 disposals, five marks, three tackles

Played down back and his leadership was really noticeable, particularly in the dying seconds of the game with organising the young defenders around him. His ball-use was really sharp on the day, with 14 disposals, all of them effective which is something we like to see.

Ben Lennon
13 disposals, four hardball gets, five tackles, three clearances

Returned from injury with 13 disposals playing mid and a little bit forward. Came in and out of the game a little bit, but his best was highlighted through a couple of really strong tackle efforts and putting his head over the football in the air and on the ground.

Callum Moore

13 disposals, five marks, one tackle

Started forward and then ended up back. He had many opportunities to kick goals — one of the hardest things in footy is to get the footy in your hands and he’s doing that well. He just needs a bit of icing on the cake with his finishing.

Daniel Rioli
13 tackles, 13 disposals, four handball receives

Returned from a break and played his first VFL game for the year. His speed was really noticeable, as he was covering the ground well, getting from contest to contest. His 13 tackles was a clear standout.

Ivan Soldo
26 hit-outs, three clearances, 11 disposals

He had to “lump the load” on his return from injury as first ruck against Jake Spencer, who’s been dominating at this level. I really thought he held his own, especially under fatigue in the last quarter, having to ruck for 14 or 15 minutes having not played for five or six weeks showed great resilience. He’ll only be better for the run.

Mabior Chol

10 disposals, six uncontested possessions, one tackle

Playing as a key-back and we threw him forward for impact in the third and fourth quarters. He’s still learning his craft as a defender and he’s doing a lot right, but we just need to tidy up a few of his starting points and he could be really important for as at AFL-level.

Dan Butler
Seven tackles, one goal, eight disposals, five handball receives

As a small forward I thought it was his best game for the year, or at least for a number of weeks, with his intensity. The numbers don’t say it in terms of possessions, but his seven tackles and his pressure around the contest really stood out. He got great reward in the last quarter with a crumbing goal and he was really important for us.

VFL-listed

Tom Silvestro
21 disposals, one goal, seven marks, seven tackles, three clearances

Is a real standout of the VFL-listed players. His workrate is enormous, his GPS comes back on fire from how hard he works. Had 21 disposals and a goal and his continuous running is really important for us.

Sam Darley
20 disposals, 16 kicks, six handball receives

Our captain continues to lead from the front. His ball use was really noticeable on the day with his kick-ins finding the right target and his leadership stood out.

Nick Mellington

16 disposals, two clearances, five handball receives, one goal

Played wing and through the midfield. A VFL player that has great class and quality and hard running ability. The more contests he can get to will make a huge difference in what we’re doing.

James Fletcher
12 disposals, four marks, four tackles

The 23rd player playing his second game and really looks capable of playing at the level. Finds the footy well, uses it well and continues to play his role. He’ll be a part of this team for many weeks going forward.

Tom Langford
12 disposals, three marks, two tackles

Played off half-back with important leadership and experience to have there. He likes to set things up off half-back.

Jake Aarts
Eight tackles, 11 disposals, two clearances, one goal

Playing great roles for us as a small forward. His eight tackles and intensity in the contest were really noticeable and we appreciate what he’s doing for us.

Ryan Gale
Nine disposals, three marks, two tackles

A key defender, and with Casey's four talls on the day, he returned from injury and we welcomed his strong experience down there. His spoiling and bringing the ball to ground for others to gather and move out of defensive 50 was important as well.

Ryan Bathie

Six disposals, three marks, four hit-outs

I love what he’s doing and what he’s offering us in terms of ruck relief or a key-forward presence. He’s got great leadership in leading our younger forwards and younger players in the team.

Jacob Ballard

Four disposals, three marks, two tackles

Copped a little bit of a knock and didn’t see out the game, but looks right for this week.

I like the look of Markov.

Has some x factor about him.

Craig's write up of McBean indicates he is likely to be picked this week.
Hoping Butler also gets a look in with Markov too. Rioli probably will come back.

Bean needs to play.  Looks much more dynamic than side show.

Andrew Moore
24 disposals, nine clearances, eight tackles, one goal
Continued his great form at this level — it’s probably been four weeks in a row now that he’s been our most consistent for four quarters. He was significant on the day.

Six disposals last week Upto half time and was lamented for lack of consistency. Why do they feed us poo about some of these crappy top up players

Based on the couple of recents games, Butler hasn't done nearly enough to warrant a senior game. Can't get his hands on it.

Adam Marcon
18 disposals, 11 handball receives, three tackles

Was a standout player for two-and-a-half quarters before receiving a heavy knock to the shoulder. It doesn’t look too bad, and it looks like he’ll be available this week, but we certainly missed him in the second half when the whips were cracking.

Here we go playing players out of position again Chol playing as a key back our development is laughable. :banghead :banghead.

Is a good VFL player (that's his standard)

Not AFL standard by a long way

Reckon McCrae has no idea
Watched the game twice on TV
I don't know what they are trying to achieve
Playing guys out of position isn't good
What to try and develop them ?
Give me a break

Well we did nearly beat the top team. Probably not the best game to use as an example.

Cal Moore & Townsend highly over-rated

Cal Moore - A player who sprays the ball like that  ;D he would be on the 1st train back to where he come from.  :thumbsdown

Townsend - A targeted player who has not worked hard enough in all area's  OVER-RATED Waste of spot on the list :thumbsdown
Whoever drafted this one has no idea what we need down at the club. TRADE
