I took a look recently at Elton's draft year footage and he was a very good mark of the footy and moved really well for a big bloke. He looked really comfortable as a forward. Take a look and leg me know what you think.

Play him forward IMO and let him run and jump at the footy. We are crying out for a decent KPF.

Todd Elton was fantastic in the air. Could really clunk a mark Always a big lad but had good pace  was a good mover over the ground  and really good agility. Was one i complained about for being played out of position but of course plenty around here defended the club and the need to have versatile players.

I know most dont see it but i am still filthy that at no stage have we played McBean at chb. Its ironic the one tall who had spent a decent amount of time in defense as a junior and did real well was McBean and at no stage have the fools even contemplated the move despite the fact we have played two ruck/fwd types for years who have basically kept bean out of the side right or wrong.and that is despite the need to find really good kpds.

This footy club has just crucified what talls we have had. Ffs let em develop in the roles they have performed best at. once they fit in and have a bit of confidence then look for the versatility if we lack.
Lost count of how many times i have had to argue this point on tiger sites.

You reckon McBean is being played out of position?

He won the VFL goal kicking and came close a second time playing out of position?

Bean has been around for 4 years a period where we desperatyely needed to develop  kpds.  in thos e 4 years he has played 2 games? Because we had two almost clones as far as type goes keeping him out of the side.

I would have happily taken McBean in his draft year as a kpd he performed that well in the role. Now with this in mind at no stage while two very similar types have kept him out of the side have we even contemplated using him in defense.
Just to finish McBean has his knocks on his game and those knocks again suggest to me he should have been developed as a defender.

As  a fwd in the vfl yes he has kicked goals and showed he can play fwd as well.It says heaps about his versatility.
I dont get the angst we could never play three 200cm tall fwds in the one team, imo  the one who showed the most promise as a defender was never ever tried there.Yet others it seems was tried there willy nilly.

Imo at 200cm McBean does not tick enough boxes as a kpf at afl level. H e may at some stage prove that statement wrong i hope it is this week.

Any way i have given my opinion on this i am no longer prepared to debate the whys and why nots on this site of any oif my opinions its an opinion you can agrre or not i dont give a stuff.

You don't think he's deficiencies in the air and his ability to out body players and will himself to contests will make him a pretty lousy defender? I could be wrong but I think his pros and cons definitely put him in the forward category. Saying that, we try everyone in the backline so why is he different?

Oh and don't be pooty

Ch 7 just showed some vision of Vickery and said he didn't do much. Missed a set shot and then took a juggling mark.

Sam Lane said Ivan broke even with Minson and looks to have played his last game of AFL.

VFL Tigers fall to Footscray

richmondfc.com.au
11 July 2016

Richmond’s VFL side suffered its second tight loss in as many weeks as Footscray slammed on three goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Tigers by nine points at Whitten Oval.

Bulldogs’ forward Lachlan Dalgleish proved to be a thorn in the Tigers’ side as he slotted the final three goals of the match, with Footscray prevailing 11.8 (74) to 9.11 (65).

Richmond led for the majority of the day, and let slip an eight-point three-quarter-time lead as it squandered chances in front of goal and failed to halt the Bulldogs’ late charge.

The Tigers started the critical final term in superb fashion as Jacob Townsend slotted his second goal of the day, handing the Tigers a handy 14-point cushion.

As they’d done for the majority, however, the Bulldogs responded immediately with back-to-back goals, cutting the margin to two points.

Moments later, Mabior Chol mowed down an unaware Bulldogs’ defender and received just reward for his outstanding tackle as he coolly went back and slotted his only major, extending the Tigers’ lead to eight points.

That’s where the good news ended unfortunately, as Footscray and Dalgleish snatched the lead late and never looked back.

Richmond struggled to play with the same dash and dare between the arcs as it had the week prior, which led to inconsistency of quality entries going inside 50.

The key message from coach Craig McRae for the match was to “Start how we finished”, after the Tigers pushed ladder-leaders Casey all the way the week previous.

The Tigers welcomed back a swag of experience to aid their cause, with Ivan Maric, Ty Vickery, Jake Batchelor and Kane Lambert suiting up against the Dogs.

Maric and Lambert combined brilliantly at the opening bounce as the pair set the scene for an encouraging first term around the clinches.

Lambert accumulated the ball at will, and also waltzed into an open goal sinking a major, while Maric fought out an intriguing battle with Dogs’ big man Will Minson.

It was a scatter-gun approach in front of goal for the Tigers in the first term, epitomised by a Lambert set-shot which hit the post on the quarter-time siren, handing the Tigers a 13-point lead.

Richmond dominated the main statistical areas in the first term, recording +15 uncontested marks, +10 contested ball, and +5 clearances but didn’t gain just reward for its effort.

The Tigers’ pressure early was impressive, with forward Jake Aarts cashing in midway through the second term, snapping his first for the day and Callum Moore kicking the next major, following a deft-touch turnover by Ben Lennon.

The pair’s goals pushed the Tigers’ lead out to 25 points before the Dogs hit back late, and cut the margin to 18 points at the main change.

The game turned a little hectic in the latter stages of the second quarter, with both sides turning the ball over at will.

Richmond just needed to control the tempo of the game in the second half and convert their dominance to pressure on the scoreboard.

Tigers’ coach Craig McRae implored his charges to remain calm with ball in hand, and restrict turnovers, which was the Bulldogs’ main source of scoring.

The third term didn’t start to plan as Minson shifted Troy Chaplin close to goal, and slotted his first for the quarter.

Returning Tiger Todd Elton hit back for the visitors, before Minson repeated the dose and cut the margin to eight points after an error-riddled third term.

The final term was one of momentum and the Bulldogs stormed home with three goals in red time as the Tigers frustratingly let the game slip from their grasp.

Richmond’s picture of consistency Adam Marcon put in his best performance for the year, finishing with 35 disposals and a goal.

Key Tigers Kane Lambert (32 disposals), Sam Darley (26), Andrew Moore (24) and Ben Lennon (23) were all handy contributors, while Ty Vickery finished with 17 disposals, six marks and three tackles.

The Tigers have a bye this week, before they prepare to face Box Hill on Sunday, July 24 at Punt Road Oval.

16 disposal, 6 marks and 4 tackles would be Ty's best output for a long time.

Hopefully dummer doesnt bring him straight in on the back of that though.

He should be able to do better at that level and i want to see him do consistently for a period of time.

It's about time, for the first time in career, that he was forced to earn his spot

Richmond VFL and development coach Craig McRae provides an exclusive summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players who featured in last Saturday's match against Footscray.

AFL-listed

Adam Marcon
35 disposals, one goal, seven marks, four tackles, three clearances

Continued his outstanding form at VFL level. He had 35 disposals — including 15 in the first quarter from the wing. All his stats are really positive, he’s winning the ball on the inside and the outside, and impacting on the scoreboard. He’s playing way above the level at the moment.

Kane Lambert
32 disposals, 10 clearances, one goal, four tackles

Returned from AFL duties for his first VFL game for the year. He had 32 disposals, 10 clearances, and clearly played above the level as well.

Andrew Moore
24 disposals, nine tackles, six inside-50s, four clearances

A solid game without being outstanding. He’s still finding the ball frequently — 24 disposals and nine tackles are good numbers. He did a lot of hard stuff inside the contest.

Ben Lennon
23 disposals, 14 contested possessions, four tackles, six inside-50s

Was thrown around a little bit playing midfield, back and forward. He ended the game with 23 disposals and also showed good courage in the air with two contested marks a standout.

Nathan Drummond
20 disposals, eight marks, eight handball receives

A bit below the standards he set himself in his first five games back from injury. He still ended up with 20 disposals, but his ball-use off half-back wasn’t at the level it had been. We’re looking for him to bounce back in his next opportunity.

Dan Butler
19 disposals, five tackles, seven inside-50s

Played the best VFL game that I’ve seen him play. His 19 disposals as a small forward, and his intensity and tenacity to fight and win the ball back and tackle, was a real standout. He played above the level.

Ty Vickery
17 disposals, six marks, three tackles

Played his first VFL game for the year after coming back from the AFL. Again, another who started the game extremely well. He ended up with 17 disposals and six marks, and had two scoring opportunities but didn’t take his chances on the day. As the game wore on he didn’t have the impact as he did at the start, but still a solid game from him.

Jake Batchelor
15 disposals, six marks, six tackles

In a common theme for all these players, his first-half was outstanding. He was probably best on the ground through his tackling and attack at the contest. As the game wore on he showed effects that he hadn’t played in a number of weeks and didn’t have the impact that he had in the first half.

Mabior Chol
15 disposals, eight marks, two tackles

Continues to improve. He had moments in the game where his team defence had let us down, but fundamentally, his contest and ball-use was a real standout. He continues to show AFL traits.

Troy Chaplin
14 disposals, six marks, four handball receives

Did a great job on Tom Boyd - I think (Boyd) kicked one goal from a free-kick. “Chappy” continues to be a great ally for “Marbs” (Chol) with his leadership, and helping him with his positioning as a defender. A really solid game from him.

Callum Moore
12 disposals, six marks, three tackles

Solid contributor with highs and lows in the game. He was really strong in the air with six marks. He attacks the ball at the highest point really well. A capable game from him.

Jacob Townsend
11 disposals, eight tackles, two goals

Played forward mainly and ended the game with eight tackles and two goals which is really hard to do and he was really important inside-50 for us. We just need him to impact more when he’s an inside-mid.

Todd Elton
Six disposals, four marks, one goal

Played limited game time back from his foot injury. Attacked the ball well — four of his six possessions were from marks - which shows he’s playing to his strengths.

Ivan Maric
30 hit-outs, six disposals, two tackles, two clearances

Didn’t have the impact with ball in hand, but was critical around the stoppages with 30 hit-outs, allowing us to win that area on the day. Not the impact he would have liked in the air which he has been giving us and failed to take a mark when he had opportunity to. That's where we will be looking for improvement this week.

Ivan Soldo
12 hit-outs, two disposals, two tackles

Had limited game time, but we want more impact from him.

VFL-listed

Sam Darley
26 disposals, eight marks, four clearances

Continues his good form in leading from the front. He had probably his best first quarter for the year, winning the contest and using the ball well, as we expect. Late in the game he went away from all of the things that make him a good player. He was still a really strong contributor.

Jacob Ballard
17 disposals, 12 contested possessions, one goal

Continues his solid form at VFL-level after a heavy clash last week. Started the game extremely well, gathered 17 disposals and kicked a great crumbing goal from his enormous work rate.

Tom Langford
17 disposals, eight marks, 12 uncontested possessions

Played off half-back and provided great rebound, his second quarter was his strongest for the day. We continually need his leadership in tight moments to drive the younger players around him.

Daniel Coffield
14 disposals, five marks, three handball receives

Returned after being left out the week prior. He was back to his defensive best and was really strong at the contest. He was a solid contributor for us and important in playing his role.

Jake Aarts
13 disposals, one tackle, one goal

Played as a small forward, he kicked a goal and had an opportunity to set up another one. He was tough inside, didn’t have the tackles we would have liked, but still played his role.

Tom Silvestro
13 disposals, five marks, two clearances

His game wasn’t as classy or didn’t have the impact of the week prior where he was a clear standout. He still played his role with his hard running and huge GPS numbers. Plays on the wing and plays his role every week.

James Fletcher
Nine disposals, four marks, five tackles

Our 23rd player and another who was down on his recent output. Still a solid contributor, but we need to work on the defensive side of his game, which will make him a better player for us.

Nick Mellington
Eight disposals, four tackles, one clearance

Had a really quiet day and was poor compared to his standards. Only the eight possessions from an inside-mid is not enough.

Would like to see Marcon elevated, what more does he have to do? Could be a case of the Miles syndrome, took him ages to be elevated. Can't we elevate a player now or one for Yarran?

I know he isn't but can't he be?

That would clear 2 spots. Lets hope Hardwick doesn't wait. The game against the Dons would be good for players like Chol, Marcon and Butler to find their feet. But alas, we will see Lambert come back in and that will be it.

Lambert is a slightly better Marcon anyway. Will forever be better than VFL level but never be consistently good AFL players.

No he can't not enough games left this year and you put him on the LTIL and he can't even play VFL, they are hoping he can play VFL in the next few weeks

^ this is spot on.  :clapping Marcon is what I usually call "a betwick & between" player, above VFL standard but not up to AFL standard
