Title: 2016 Rio Olympics
Post by: 🏅Dooks on July 27, 2016, 11:34:33 AM
9 days to go.

Athletes village is in shambles but not the first olympics this has been the case. Then theres the crime and daily mosquito gassing.

Anyway, any predictions on medals? What are people looking fwd to?

Hopefully a bit more joyful to watch than Richmonds last 5 games in what has been a bleak year

They should just move them to Athens permanantly and pee off stuff like golf, tennis, 7's rugby, basically any sport that's pinnacle isn't the Olympics, trendy "flavour of the month" and joke sports.......

Those sports you've listed Dio are the reason why I'm not interested

Don't mind the 7's but see where you're coming from. Get rid of the rest

First Aussie medal is a bronze in the Archery.

The Boomers, with Bogut, Mills & Dellavedova all playing, flogged France 87-66 in the first basketball group match.

The Olympics are the most special of all events sporting.
If your not interested, that's your perogitive but I'm loving it.
Dooks - hoping for 12 gold

Really starting to enjoy the games. Great to see the girls get up for a win in the Rugby (always nice to beat NZ)!

Excellent result. I have to admit I got a little emotional.
We should get some of these girls to train our girls on tackling, determination and gut running.

Does anyone else find Jim Wilson an extremely annoying tv person? Or is it just me?

Leading into it I always say I don't give a stuff. I probably still don't. But once it rolls around I find myself sucked in to the TV, bouncing around the channels watching stuff I wouldn't normally. It was 630am this morning I was watching fencing while getting ready for work. It's a bit of good fun and has a carnival feel about it.

So you wouldn't watch great clean Australian athletes who get paid jack but you sit and watch a bunch of overpaid amateurs every weekend.

How does that work? Surely a typo

Haha, god love the Olympics. I think that's everyone's experience. Suddenly everyone's an expert on Greco-Roman wrestling!

Some great results today for the green and gold!

What a swim from Kyle Chalmers! Youngest swimmer since Ian Thorpe to win a gold at the Olympics (17 in 2000!)

So much for the "invincible" Campbell sisters, McEvoy, C-Bomb and the Dud "Missile"......most of our swimmers are massive chokers at the Olympics....break world records in trials and meaningless meets like the Pan-Pacs ...fade away & do nothing when it really matters.....like Richmond beating Hawthorn & Sydney in June & July...then losing to Carlton & North in September...

Look no further than Andrew Boguts comments regarding the boomers loss.

That's THE reason he's successful beyond the AUSSIE mindset

Been a disaster outside of Horton and Chalmers. You could have taken the 100m womens gold to the bank!

Serves them right

Arrogance personified

Aussie swim team not doing the basics correctly.

- Slow reaction times off the blocks. Cate Campbell was again left on the blocks in the 50m freestyle this morning which caused her to finish 3rd in her heat.

- Poor (slow) turns. Aussie swimmers going into a turn in front and then losing a whole body length coming out of the turn.

- Getting overrun on the last lap. Could mean poor tapering leading into the games or a failure to acclimatise to the different time zone?

Whoever was/is in charge of the preparation of the team will be getting a grilling when they get back to Oz.

It's been one of those olympics where nearly every Aussie individual or team that appears to be heading for victory, chokes when it matters  :P. Last night, it was the Boomers and the BMX riders. They must have thought all they had to do was just turn up  :-\.

On the other hand, many of those that have won gold have been the unexpected and unheralded ones with a low media profile. Well done Chloe  :clapping.

It's the Aussie Richmond olympics  :snidegrin

Boomers lost by one point to miss out on a medal. They had a chance to win with 5 secs to play but they stuffed up a set play without even getting a shot off  :P.
