Richmond partner with world leading sports brand PUMA

richmondfc.com.au
December 1, 2016 1:05 PM
Richmond is excited to announce a new partnership with world-class sports brand PUMA, for at least the next five years.

PUMA will be the Club’s new apparel partner from 2017, supplying the team’s playing and performance apparel, as well as the Club’s retail apparel range.

One of the world’s leading sports brands, designing, developing, selling and marketing apparel, footwear and accessories, PUMA partners with some of the world’s best sports teams and organisations including Arsenal Football Club, Borussia Dortmund and the Italian Football Association (FIGC).

Richmond had agreed to partner with the global sports brand, initially to start in 2018, but has worked with PUMA to commence the partnership immediately.

"We are proud to partner a world-class brand in PUMA that will now provide all the Club's on and off-field apparel from the 2017 season," Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.

"For a number of reasons we had started to explore apparel partnership options. We had been in discussions with PUMA for some time and given their reputation for quality service, and products, it was clear they are our preferred partner moving forward.

"We had agreed earlier this year to commence our partnership with PUMA in 2018, however, given the issues with our contracted supplier, PUMA have been able to step in immediately which is fantastic.

"While the situation with our current supplier is disappointing, the Club has been proactively considering its options and is subsequently very well placed to deal with it.

"We now look forward to a long and successful relationship with PUMA. They partner some of the biggest sporting brands in the world and we are pleased they saw fit to partner with Richmond."

Paul Gautier, General Manager PUMA Oceania is excited to develop the brand’s journey in AFL with Richmond.

“PUMA’s brand mission is to be the fastest sports brand in the world. Our investment in AFL is critical in delivering our goals in sports,” Gautier said.

“With PUMA’s rich heritage in sport since 1948 and Richmond as one of the big, traditional AFL clubs in the competition, we feel that our partnership is a perfect fit.

“Timing is everything. The PUMA journey back to its rightful position in the market is well and truly on track and we look forward to taking the next steps on that journey with Richmond.”

Richmond’s new PUMA range will be available to purchase before the start of the 2017 home-and-away season

'Charcoal and mustard' to 'yellow and black': Tigers' jumper hope

Nathan Schmook
afl.com.au
December 1, 2016 2:26 PM

RICHMOND is hopeful its new apparel sponsor will be able to produce a jumper closer to its traditional colours after criticism it had become "charcoal and mustard" under manufacturer BLK.

The Tigers on Thursday announced a new partnership with Puma for the next five years, bringing the deal forward 12 months after BLK was placed under external administration.

The colour of Richmond's jumper has become a board election issue, with aspirants Simon Wallace and Peter Casey promising to get the guernsey right.

The Tigers have also been working behind the scenes for at least six months to make sure their new apparel range would be a true reflection of their 'yellow and black' tradition.

"Our jumper is who we are … yellow and black are not just our colours, they are the best line in the best (club) song," Wallace wrote in his campaign prospectus.

"It should be yellow and black, not the charcoal and mustard that it now is."

Richmond had agreed to partner with Puma in a deal that was set to start in 2018, but it has worked to launch the partnership immediately.

BLK was this month placed under external administration, affecting six AFL clubs.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the Tigers had explored a new apparel partner for "a number of reasons".

"We had been in discussions with Puma for some time and given their reputation for quality service, and products, it was clear they are our preferred partner," he said.

"Given the issues with our contracted supplier, Puma have been able to step in immediately which is fantastic.

"While the situation with our current supplier is disappointing, the club has been proactively considering its options and is subsequently very well placed to deal with it."

Richmond is expected to launch its new apparel range in February.

Exactly. Make the black black by all means but shoot me over that lemon colour we wore in the early 2000s. It ain't Richmond people.

During the golden era of 67-82 we had a sash the same colour (or very close too) Ox's avatar.

As with all apparel companies do our polos, hoodies, jackets etc will be the same design as any other club they sponsor

In Pums's case in the AFL that's West Coast so if you want to get an idea of what things will look like just check out their on line store

Have to say the "training" jacket looks pretty average need to get rid of that white for a start ;D

Or maybe we can steal the Mizzou Tigers guernsey/jersey

Puma training shorts as of yesterday

Coaches have their new training Ts

Players also have training singlets

Have to say club needs to be really careful.

This obsession with "yellow" that seems to overtaken the place could come back to bite them.

The yellow on the training T is too "yellow" = canary yellow and it looks awful...

INHO the yellow should be the same yellow we had in our last Premiership & GF jumpers

Agreed WP. Blk just about got the sash colour right. It very close to the traditional sash colour. The yellow path we are heading down looks more lemon to me.

How the club can miss the mark on this is beyond me. By all means make the black a deep black but Geez Geez the proposed yellow is about as Richmond as beige and black stipes would be for collingwood.

Spot on - the BLK yellow was about right, it was the charcoal that was the problem.

BLK jumper was pretty widely referred to as Charcoal and Mustard.

What amazes me is that we don't seem to have a definitive standard (PMS or otherwise).

I noticed that even the logo colour seems to have changed (on the shorts) to that bright yellow.

The black was the major issue though.

Think you need your eyes checked. The old jumper is orangey yellow and the new one is lemony yellow. The only similarity is that they are both tones of yellow.

It is to an extent. Look at Jumpers later in the 80's and 90's and they were much more orange than the 60's and 70's. So that is what I'm saying. The current jumper is closer to the 60's and 70's jumper than the 80's and 90's version. I don't find it too bad. At least the black is black.

Its along way off. A number of shades different. Would be like collingwood having black and grey, or carlton in royal blue.

Never compare colors in photos take decades apart!  Red balance is a real thing & it changes the shade of yellows in particular.  Note how Royce's skin tone is much redder & darker in the old photo compared to the new photo taken with a high definition digital camera ... that difference in red balance goes through all of the colors & affects the yellow most of all.  There's your difference folks!   ::)
The new jumpers are going to look fantastic!

Exactly! :clapping
I took the fact that the older photos had more red through them changing the shade to a slightly more orange look than it was in reality. I assumed others would do the same... ::)

LMFAO I suppose photos taken in 2016 of premiership jumpers (Billy Barrots no less) from 1969 go redder too?

Digital camera's white balance can influence colour greatly. Also, do you really think the yellow of a jumper from 1969 is the same today as it was in 1969? A jumper that was also worn and sweated in at the time.

I have also said that the yellow is a little more orange and todays is a little more lemon but it's not that far off the older jumpers. Of the jumpers from the 1980's and 90s, it is very different.

the old one is definately warmer.  The new one has drifted into the lemon direction.  Hawthorn has slowly been changing their poo ochre into our original yellow and their fecal brown is now so dark it is almost black.

Was at the club today

For those interested the new Puma guernsey are now in store.

Having now seen it up close

Have to say it gets  :thumbsdown from me

The yellow is too pale. Looks weak. The club's new found "yellow obsession" is officially over the top to the extreme.

Very disappointing

Have said it before, the yellow sash should the yellow of the 1980 premiership and or 1982 GF, perfect balance

Also, why did the club not try and involve members supporters in the decision? They tried to fix it for the fans and it's obviously not a secret they have to keep in-house so why not just survey a few people (or a lot)?

Still hate the polo, it is truly embarrassing

Funny story about the polo

Obviously, being at the season launch got to see the polo up close while chatting to a number of players

3 months in and to see the logos already peeling off and discolouring is as I said embarrassing.  :lol

they are very black and the yellow obsession continues - very very bright. The yellow on the shoulders is actually heat pressed on of which I am not a fan

Post by: one-eyed on February 08, 2021, 03:02:13 PM
Richmond topped the competition for sold on-field apparel last year, with AFL data released to clubs showing the back-to-back premiership Tigers capitalised on their success by accounting for 15.14 per cent of sales of on-field wear – including jumpers and all matchday wear from players and coaches.

% of sales of on-field wear      Brand

Title: 25% of 2022 Puma Polo and Hoodie
Post by: WilliamPowell on April 10, 2022, 12:58:54 PM
Wouldn't normally do this but this is a good deal

As part of the "Tigers Roar you Score" promo the On-line store has after we win a game this weeks offer is a really good one

Offer is 25% of the 2022 Puma Polo or Hoodie. Offer last for 48 hours after the win. Members would have received and email

What this means for Members is it is actually a 35% discount (members 10% + the 25%)

So for the hoodie which is normally $89.95 you can get it via the On-line store for just under $65

Offer closes around 10pm tomorrow
