2017 Dreamtime guernsey launched
richmondfc.com.au
May 4, 2017 7:00 PM
Richmond’s seventh Dreamtime guernsey is a bold and vibrant fusion of traditional Aboriginal patterns.
This year’s guernsey, which will be worn when the Tigers play Essendon in the annual ‘Dreamtime at the ‘G’ match in Round 10, was designed by Aboriginal artist Josh Muir.
The design was inspired by Richmond pair Daniel Rioli and Nathan Drummond and captures the story of peace, love and unity.
“Rioli being from the Tiwi Islands, and Drummond being from Yorta Yorta, I decided to fuse both traditional patterns into one,” Muir said.
“(It incorporates) Bunjil the creator and the old people, using the traditional colours of Richmond designed around the sash.
“Bunjil is seen as a creator traditionally, and the old men are our elders, which is a really important part of our culture, paying respect to our elders.
“They fuse together to acknowledge the creator – past and present and the emerging of Aboriginal culture.”
Be part of the annual Dreamtime at the 'G event with a special Dreamtime membership.
This year’s Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round coincides with the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, whereby Australians voted ‘Yes’ to recognising Indigenous Australians in the constitution.
Richmond’s Dreamtime guernsey pays tribute to this, with No. 67 displayed on the back.
Muir, 25, is a contemporary artist and Yorta Yorta man.
“I refer to myself as a 21st century digital Aboriginal,” he said.
“Traditionally Aboriginal people capture what’s in their environment and tell stories of what’s around them.”
Richmond’s 2017 Dreamtime guernsey is now available in store and online at the Tigerland Superstore.
All proceeds from the sale of Dreamtime-related items go to the Korin Gamadji Institute and the Richmond Football Club’s Indigenous programs.
To view more of Josh Muir’s work, visit his current art exhibition at the Gallery at City Library.
His work is on display from now, up until May 30

Too colourful. Looks like someone spewed up on the jumper.
-
I like it .
Think the 2015 is still the best though.

Looks like the face from Luna Park shagged an Easter Island head and a cat peeed on the result.

...or is it the Master Control Program from a Spike Lee remake of Tron?

agree. Not a fan

Forwards: Bolton. Reiwoldt. Stengle.
Half Forwards: Edwards. Elton. Rioli.
Indigenous invasion for dreamtime. :clapping
-
The design is cool, who ever at the club allowed for any other colour than yellow or black on our jumper should be sacked. Absolute howler for mine. I don't care what the cause is, we should never play in any other colours except for yellow and black.
-
Have it on good authority that Bolton will debut for this game. Edwards will return too.
-
Now a real 8-point game with both sides 5-4. Winner secures a top 8 spot.

Im worried about the toll the past month has had on the players . I feel flat as a pancake - hopefully they come to play .

Why?

Dreamtime at the G.
Can we make the last minute choke a 3peat?

Essendon are now favourites according to the footy media.
Match preview: Richmond v Essendon
afl.com.au
24 May 2017
SUMMARY
After a rough patch of form, Essendon has tapped into a potent combination of speed and toughness that has its season back on track. The Bombers are settled at the selection table and players appear comfortable in their roles as a trademark style of play emerges at 5-4. They hit the annual Dreamtime at the 'G match on a high against a Richmond side that has been crushed by heartbreaking losses three weeks running. After a 5-0 start, the Tigers have slipped to 5-4 and they desperately need a win to break the cycle of close losses that are cruelling their season. Damien Hardwick's men are producing good football for long periods, but they are crumbling at critical times and losing credibility as a contender in an even season.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, May 27, 7.25pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R17, 2016, Richmond 16.6 (102) d Essendon 11.17 (83) at the MCG
R10, 2016, Richmond 16.9 (105) d Essendon 10.7 (67) at the MCG
R22, 2015, Richmond 10.14 (74) d Essendon 7.5 (47) at the MCG
R9, 2015, Richmond 10.12 (72) d Essendon 8.11 (59) at the MCG
R20, 2014, Richmond 14.11 (95) d Essendon 11.11 (77) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. Dustin Martin was the star when these teams last met, winning 43 possession and kicking two goals to earn the three Brownlow votes.
2. The Bombers won the inside 50 count for the first time this season in their round nine win against West Coast. They’re ranked No.16 in this category, while Richmond ranks No.4.
3. Richmond has had the better of Essendon recently winning the past five matches and six of the past seven. The Bombers' most recent win was in round 11, 2014.
4. No team kicks the ball more this season than the Bombers, who average 231.3 kicks a game. The Tigers rank No.15 with an average of 204.1. For total disposals, Essendon ranks No.6 and Richmond is last.
5. Goalkicking accuracy hasn’t been a strength for the Tigers, who have converted at 46.7 per cent this season. Essendon is mid-table at 50.6 per cent.
6. Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti's has been on a constant climb up the Schick AFL Player Ratings this season and he is now ranked No.4 among Essendon players. Overall, he has climbed from No.312 to No.158.
IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR … The Richmond leadership group.
Skipper Trent Cotchin and his deputies Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt are only three of 22 players, but their leadership is relied on during the dying stages of games. In the past two weeks the Tigers structures in set play situations have let them down, and the leadership group has to wear some — but not all — of the blame.
PREDICTION: Essendon by 17 points

I must say...that's pretty good :bow :lol
-
Subsequent replays reveal there was in fact no infringement , all Nankervis did was shrug his shoulders and say "what?" and the 50 metres was generous by at least couple of metres - naturally with Daniher's shot only just making the distance.......though we still had no-one standing on the goal-line...
-
stuff I hate Essendon.

So 3 game members? Do they need to upgrade?

Tiger Edwards braced for Bomber raid
afl.com.au
26 May 2017
INDIGENOUS Tiger Shane Edwards is bracing for a finals-like atmosphere in Saturday night's annual Dreamtime at the 'G clash with Essendon.
Richmond has dominated the match-up in recent times – winning the past five games over the Bombers and six of the last seven – but has lost four straight contests this year after a 5-0 start.
While Essendon is also 5-4, the Bombers are hunting three victories on the trot for the first time in nearly three years.
"The crowd is so loud (in Dreamtime games) and it's really intense early on, but we need to make sure we weather the storm and bring the pressure," Edwards said.
"They're in really good form and we saw what they did to West Coast last week.
"They've got quality players and I don't think it matters whether you miss a year or not – they're still really quality players and we're going to have to be on our best performance."
Edwards, 28, has played the past two games after missing five with a hip injury sustained late in the Tigers' round two win over Collingwood.
The opportunity to play in another Dreamtime at the 'G match – the showpiece of the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round – is one Edwards treasures.
Edwards joins Lance Franklin, Shaun Burgoyne, Zac Williams, Steven May, Daniel Wells and Cedric Cox in changing his traditional number to 67 this week, in honour of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Australian Referendum.
That referendum was a historic moment that saw Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people included in the Australian census figures.
"It's just a great week to celebrate and educate everyone in Australia," he said.
"Everyone's asking questions why players are wearing certain numbers, what this means, what that means and that just sparks an answer.
"I think that's how we educate everyone, even more than what they already are.
"Every week I’m really proud to represent the Richmond footy club, but also come Sir Doug Nicholls Round, I'm proud to represent my family and all the past and present indigenous players who've played the game."

All about intensity and pressure over 4 qtrs tonight. We'll know if we're on or not in the first 15 minutes.

Nice handball :P.
Terrible defending at the throw-in :banghead.

Poor signs early :-\.

Looking like a 100 point thrashing so far :help.

How soft is Houli?
Dudwick can't see it after 7 years?

Great goal by Lloyd.
Good contested mark by Bolton. Off to Edwards. Goal :gotigers.

Not sure if Ellis meant that to Caddy but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Caddy misses :scream. Here we go again in front of goal.

So you're allowed to basketball throw over your head now?

Goalkicking accuracy again the difference on the scoreboard :banghead.
Quarter time
Richmond 4.4-28
Essendon 6.0-36
Goals: Riewoldt, Lloyd, Caddy, Edwards.
-
Marking space and not the player, it's a common sense thing and we don't have any.
-
Our defending on transition and from clearances has been slack. Too loose.
So many mistackles due to not reading the hips with Essendon players nutmegging our guys :facepalm.
Again we're not protecting the defensive side of centre bounces ::). Don't know why we tap the ball backwards when there's no teammates or protection there. It just allows Essendon to get the easy clearance into their forward line.
Missing chances inside 50 when they have taken all of theirs.
-
Marking space and not the player, it's a common sense thing and we don't have any.
As we know we're a dumb side.
Getting smashed in the clearances :P.
-
Bolton was great there to win us possession and then Caddy misses the easy handpass to Dusty.
-
Essendon as a side are strong up fwd but weak mids esp for clearances.
If we lose the clearances well lose the game by 6 goals
-
That's terrible Elton. Ballwatching.
We get it back. Bolton excellent hands to Georgie who finds Titch. Misses another gettable shot :banghead.

Geez we make dumb mistakes :facepalm.

Essendon player within the 10m protected error and the ump ignores it.

Why is Caddy flying for marks why Elton watches from the ground :huh.

No we don't get frees in front of goal even though it was a throw by Bagley.

Had 10 years to get numbers back and fill the space when Tippi marked and then stopped.
Of course they goal after all our missed chances ::). Only have ourselves to blame.

The AFL court jester having to having them rolling in the aisle.

Caddy, Riewoldt and Bolton all missed easy goals!!!! poo football from a team of chockers
-
That stuffhead umpire can go and get f'd also
-
As with the last 3 games, if you can't kick the ball through the big white sticks then you may as well pack up and go home. It's simply unprofessional and not up to AFL standard and if they don't practice it at training then something is seriously wrong.
And yes the ump has done it again, how the hell when sprinting towards goal as a defender do you know that the player behind has pulled up. Another controversy goes against us, it's happening week in week out.
-
The deliberate rushed behind called against Short was the worst decision EVER! :thumbsdown
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.4 6.9-45
Essendon 6.0 8.1-49
Goals: Edwards 2, Riewoldt, Caddy, Elton, Lloyd.
-
Does everyone else have their heart in their mouth when Prestia has the ball. By foot it's a deadset lottery whether it goes anywhere near where it's intended, does he have a prosthetic knee or something.

This summary x10000000000.
Yep, it's a battle between our pathetic goalkicking and the disgraceful umpiring for ultimate amateur status.
-
Dont normally comment on umpires much but tonight they have been a disgrace. Our kicking too but thats nothing new
-
Despite being able to be well in front if we kicked straight, still haven't liked how we've played. Pressure isn't there like it was in the first 5 weeks
-
29 tackles to the half.. like last year
-
Does everyone else have their heart in their mouth when Prestia has the ball. By foot it's a deadset lottery whether it goes anywhere near where it's intended, does he have a prosthetic knee or something.
I have my heart in my mouth with most things our players do ;D.
Dusty, Rance and maybe only one or two others I've forgotten are consistently playing AFL standard tonight. We just have players that have too many brainfades that cost us goals. Even that last pathetic umpiring decision which lead to Essendon's last goal was originally set up on our HF line by Grimes coughing up the ball away from teammates out into the corridor for Essendon rebounders to run onto.
-
Despite being able to be well in front if we kicked straight, still haven't liked how we've played. Pressure isn't there like it was in the first 5 weeks
It looks like opposition clubs have decided to flood against us to get numbers back to combat our small forward pressure knowing that if they get out and rebound we are too slack on defensive transition.

As I said, we have too many brainfades.

Totally agree we lack footy smarts we cant do simple things right.

Sorry guys but I see the Bombers rolling over the top of us in the last. We have had enough opportunities to win two games but bad kicking is bad footy. If it did happen to come down to the wire then dont blame the ump or the Tigers player who makes an error. It's clearly on Jack tonight, he is there to do a job and he has let the side down tonight.
-
Kick it as long as ya can, high and long ! Just like u/12s :banghead
Our entries inside F50 as kick and hope. Even on the intercept when we have space inside F50 to hit a lead we just bomb it in. Perhaps Dimma knows most of our players are dumb and he needs to keep things simple :whistle.

That could happen but when you're still 3 points up you shouldn't just roll over. You should thank you're lucky stars we haven't been punished already and go out and win it.

Ten more scoring shots. Shouldn't have that close but take the close win after the previous 2 weeks of choking.

Put the bong down Hooter. Ellis had 30 touches at 90% and a goal.
Good game from him, regardless of what you think of his career thus far.
-
The problem we have inside 50 is that if Jack is off we don't really have any other sharpshooters. Tonight we didn't really get any easy out the back goals either which seems the only way we look like scoring at the moment because our goalkicking generally is so far off being anywhere near acceptable.

Best game he has ever played. For the first time he didn't look like he pulled out of a contest :clapping
and didnt just slam it on the boot blind or dish it off like a hot potato to a stationary teammate. Hope he takes a lot out of that and keeps striving for that type of poise
-
Hooter might be taking the p1ss.
-
good to beat essendon the cheats and see some descent games from bellis, and continued good form from grigg, rance and astbury.
prestia continues to prove what a dud pick he was for pick 7.

Astbury has been great support for Sir Rancealot down back. I didn't even mind his faux pas given his other efforts all night long.

Couple of things:-
Don't mind what Lambert is bringing to the team.
Bellis had hid best game, any different view solid first require a concussion test
Defense working well, god help us if rance gets injured.
Was a good win. bombers cracking in, we are clearly better
-
I'm not a fan of lambert. Must be upgraded on. Can't wait to see what we do with our picks at the end of the year

Agree Lambert tagging role has been a brilliant invention. As in Grigg's new lease on life. Hats off to whoever is responsible for this.
I can't stand BEllis but ge he was good tonight.
Still very concerned at our obvious game plan of kicking long when opponents get numbers back. We are so small that it's very easy to defend against. Shown in our high inside50s but very low conversion.

So what are we doing different or other teams doing that didn't happen in the first 5 rounds. From memory we were the most efficient team inside forward 50, guessing we are one of the worst currently.
Noticed last night when we did bomb it in we rarely had anyone at the back of packs, surely this would be a standard tactic, ask Eddie Betts.
-
Agreed Lozza, Dan Butler was dangerous in those situations and so perhaps we regain that when he returns next week
-
Rance was outstanding. Ellis played his best game for the club for a long time. Astbury was good. I thought Lambert played well. His tackling was good. Rioli's tackling and pressure was very good. I thought Cotchin really played a good game. Bolton looks a real find. Menadue showed something in the second half. Short did not have a good game thought he was pretty average and it is a really worry regarding Elton. Hurley had a field day.

Teams are flooding back with huge numbers to nullify our speed in an open fwd line not to mention Jack was starting to look very dangerous. It's a game of cat and mouse now, to see which system cracks first. As long as our team frontal pressure stays strong and doesn't allow teamscheap easy goals out the back we'll win more than we lose.
In the comp ATM you have some teams playing this flood/multiple loose men in defence (Essendon last night, Melbourne, Adelaide, Collingwood and Carlton probably do it more than most sides) and some sides like us looking to play with frontal pressure to cause multiple turnovers in the front half. If our structures stay sound and we make it very hard for teams to break through for easy goals, they'll look for other ways as the season progresses.

Yep agree with most of this but in my eyes Short did his job. Kept his man to only 7 touches and rebounded well.
-
I think shorts been brilliant in defence. Always looking to attack off hb, doesn't always work but he will only get better, wouldn't have played more than 30 games I think.

Agree The M/C
Thought Short was excellent when he came on

Agree. I like how he isn't scared kick the footy.
-
Shorts been v solid efensively the past 3-4 games which was my one real concern about him, DO NOT want another chris newman/bachar houli style release player from defence that has zero respect for defensive duties.
He is seriously quick as well
-
Houli.... how did you rate his game last night?
I gave him 3/10

Mr Panic Merchant - when the game is hot and on the line you can guarantee that he will drop an easy chest mark, fumble the ball and do everything except show poise and execute basic skills.
-

I don't rate Houli but I thought he was good last night. His kicking was excellent as too was his gut running.
He will never put his body on the line on a consistent basis and we just have to accept that. He won't be dropped too. However, play like last night and I won't mind. I gave him a 6/10.
-
Houli was as shyte as his undies...

Are you suggesting his brown ones are his good ones?

Always fun seeing Bomber fans acting like Veruca Salt after we beat them :lol.
Seriously ■■■■ you essendon fc, im ■■■■■■■ done with this ■■■■. Taking my membership money and using it to go on a holiday next year. Been a ■■■■ ant club for the last 10 years. Haven't had the balls to rebuild and we've been this mediocre club for over a decade now
https://discourse.bomberblitz.com/t/richmond-def-essington-turnoverfest-at-the-g-review-thread/10572/49
This disgusting, useless piece of poo excuse for a football club can't even beat ******* Richmond. It's ******* humiliating.
Can't believe how many times we refused to move the ball on and let them get HTB.
Our forward entries made me want to smash my head through a window. Nothing but the blind bombing I thought we had moved on from.
We should've destroyed them. We had no right to lose that game. None.

Thought Caddy was okay particularly in first half. Kicking for goal let him down.

Was more than ok. He was a constant threat all night. Had he kicked straight he would have been in the top half dozen for us.
-
When houli is replaced we will be a much better side. I'd love to see short as the go to option for the run and kick off hb rather than houli.
-
I like Shorty but I think he butchered it a bit the other night.
-
Good sides dont need a "go to release player" too easy to shut down and then youre basically hamstrung, everyone should be capable of rebounding and releasing with the exception of maybe one or two key defenders (in our situation one - Astbury)

From Robbo's "Likes/Dislikes" column today:
3. THE GATHERING
NOTHING personified indigenous input than a series of actions by Daniel Rioli, Shai Bolton and Shane Edwards in the second quarter on Saturday night. The ball was deep in Richmond’s forward pocket and Rioli and Bolton - who is just 18 and playing his second game - harassed and pressured the Bombers and won the ball. Edwards was the recipient of that pressure and kicked a left-foot snap goal. Bolton, who was the youngest player taken in the draft, looms as a wonderful pick at No.29.

Won 8 of the past 10 againts Essendon .
Makes me laugh when I remember a comment on Bomberblitz once - we are light years ahead of Richmond. Lol.

Don't disagree with what you are saying but his kicking did let him down that is why I said he was okay.

Was he even watching the game? Surely they can't complain about forward entries while watching what we produced.
Oh and we nearly doubled their inside fifties so yeah, I think they had a right to lose that game

3 Tigers in this round's AFL team of the week :clapping.
FB: ALEX RANCE (Richmond): The star defender continued to showcase his ability to have profound impacts on games. After shutting down Cale Hooker, he then helped put a stop to Joe Daniher's early influence and was crucial in the Tigers' win.
HBF: BRANDON ELLIS (Richmond): The Tigers were desperate for some inspiration and Ellis helped provide it with a strong, courageous game off half-back. He gathered 30 disposals with 90 per cent efficiency and kicked a goal.
HFF: DUSTIN MARTIN (Richmond): Won the Yiooken Award for best on ground in Saturday night's Dreamtime at the 'G after 30 disposals, six clearances and seven tackles. Propelled the Tigers inside 50 five times and won four of his clearances in the centre.
