It's time we renegotiated our MCG deal. We should own the punt road end home and away.
-
take away the 10k crowd away to GWS and we're slaying it
-
A record crowd vs Swans of 58k is about the only positive to come out of Saturday. Next week we should move ahead of Collingwood to No.1 in overall crowds given we're playing Carlton while the Pies are playing Port.

AFL attendance figures 2017: Richmond top, Collingwood, Essendon, Gold Coast Suns last
MICHAEL WARNER,
Herald Sun
7 July 2017
A RESURGENT Richmond is leading a booming season of AFL attendances — without a single Friday night fixture.
The Tigers have pulled crowds of 705,459 to 14 matches, ahead of Collingwood on 696,944.
Essendon, enjoying its first season free of the drugs scandal, is next best on 663,420.
Richmond’s home game average of 60,920 is the highest in the club’s history — up 48 per cent on last year when the Tigers bombed out of finals contention.
The Bombers’ home crowds are up by the greatest margin — a whopping 60 per cent.
“Essendon members and supporters are just phenomenal and continue to show incredible loyalty and passion,” Dons chief marketing officer Justin Rodski said on Thursday.
Gold Coast sits last on the league attendances ladder, pulling just 196,722 fans through the gates for all its matches.
North Melbourne crowds are also down with an average of just 22,858 fans attending Roos home games in 2017. Two “home games” at Blundstone Arena in Hobart are a factor in the low figure.
Etihad Stadium is hoping for a crowd of about 20,000 for Sunday’s Kangaroos-Fremantle match.
Up to 50,000 are tipped for Saturday night’s St Kilda-Richmond “Maddie’s Match” at the Docklands stadium.
“Ticket sales have been strong but there are still some general admission seats available,” an Etihad Stadium spokesman said on Thursday night.
Tigers chief Brendon Gale said he expected Richmond attendances to crash through the one million mark for just the fourth time by the end of the season.
Gale said this year’s Dreamtime and Anzac Eve games were the eighth and ninth largest home-and-away crowds outside of the Pies-Bombers Anzac Day blockbuster in the past decade.
This year’s Dreamtime at the ‘G game was the highest attended Saturday night crowd in VFL/AFL history
“We have an incredibly loyal and passionate fan base and the numbers this year prove that once again,” Gale said.
A big crowd is expected for “Maddie’s Match” on Saturday night. Picture: Jason Edwards
“We copped a fair whack when the fixture was done last year off the back of last season — we didn’t get one Friday night game — but we have worked hard to build games that engage our fans.
“Matches like the Anzac Day Eve game and Dreamtime have been built over time and are now firmly entrenched.
“Our fans — and the Melbourne and Essendon fans — clearly want to be a part of those events.
“Our match against Sydney at the MCG attracted our largest crowd against an interstate side ever and it broke the previous record by more than 10,000.
“The players love the fact their home ground is one of the great stadiums in the world and they get to play there in front of big crowds.
“It’s not something any of us take for granted.”

AFL crowds on the up as Bombers fans return
The Australian
2 August 2017
The AFL’s most evenly contested and competitive season on record is also drawing the fans in droves, with the league set to create a new home-and-away attendance record.
The league confirmed yesterday they were heading for a combined home-and-away attendance figure of more than 6,525,071 which is the current record and achieved in 2011.
An AFL spokesman said that based on current trends, they were confident a total attendance in excess of 200,000 more than last year would be set by the end of the month. This stands in contrast to the NRL which has seen attendances fall by 2.5 per cent from last season with an average crowd of 15,117 for the season.
There’s a new AFL club leader in the popularity stakes, and it isn’t the traditional big-drawing inner-Melbourne suburban clubs Collingwood or Richmond. And it’s not a tenant club of the MCG, which has a capacity of 100,000.
It’s Etihad Stadium-based Essendon, who have surged in rank-and-file support over the past month to attract more fans to their games this year than Collingwood and Richmond, the two clubs who dominated attendances over the past two years.
The fact that Essendon have attracted 863,226 to their 18 games is a clear indication the Bombers have moved on from their past few years of hell due to the 2012 supplements scandal where sanctions lasted until late last year.
Essendon, who are on target to attract one million fans to their games this year, are in front of Collingwood (833,952) and Richmond, who have had 830,835 through the gates to watch them this season.
Last year the Magpies were the most supported club with 972,219 — an average of 44,192 — attending their games ahead of Richmond, who averaged 40,920. The previous year the Tigers were the most watched club during the home-and-away season, attracting 1.05 million with Collingwood, also over the one-million mark, a close second.
Essendon’s average crowd of almost 48,000 this year is well up on last year’s comparison of 36,457, and has been achieved by their returning stars, playing more competitively and still being a chance to play finals.
Bombers chief executive Xavier Campbell told The Australian: “The passion and resilience of this supporter group can never be underestimated. They continue to show that they are the best in the business, they care so much about this team and club, and it’s a privilege for all of us to play for them and have them behind us.”
Campbell revealed Essendon’s membership has hit a record with 67,700 members, which was well above budget and more than 10,000 above last year’s figure.
He said the Bombers were heading for a profit of at least $3 million, almost $2m more than the club initially forecast. Campbell said Essendon’s outstanding financial result this year would help ease the extraordinary abnormal costs incurred by the drugs saga. The Bombers last year recorded an operating loss of $9.8m.
He said debt would be slashed from about $10.5m to $7m by the end of the year.
Richmond’s average crowd this season has jumped to 46,158 and that’s despite not having a prime-time Friday night game scheduled all year after playing in six last season.
Tigers chief executive Brendon Gale has predicted an overall home-and-away attendance in 2017 to be more than one million for only the fourth time.
This year’s Dreamtime match against Essendon at the MCG in round 10 attracted 85,656 to be the highest-attended Saturday night game ever.
Following Richmond’s first loss last season ($80,000) for 12 years, the Tigers will return to the black this year with a healthy profit expected.
Melbourne’s average home crowds at the MCG of more than 38,000 are 7000 up on last year with chief executive Peter Jackson telling The Australian last month that the Demons were within reach of making their first $1m profit.
“Clearly I can see more than 40,000 attending our games on average as early as next year,” he said.

All this yet those people running the AFL schedule us to play at Kardina park with 34000 capacity :banghead that is really laughable and nothing short of clowns.
-
69k today puts us over the million mark and No.1 for both home and overall crowds this year :thumbsup.
Overall aggregate attendances for 2017 H/A season

2. Essendon 1,019,757
3. Coll'wood 1,003,991

4. The Tiger Army is rallying
Sunday's crowd of 69,104 was the biggest ever between Richmond and St Kilda in a home-and-away match at the MCG, trailing only the 71,488 that turned up at Waverley in 1998 to see these teams play. The Tiger Army is sensing something special, with the team finishing in the top four for the first time since 2001, and they were in full voice on Sunday afternoon. Richmond also broke last year's membership record of 72,403, going into the finals with an army of 73,505 behind them. That could be significant in two weeks when they meet Geelong, presumably at the MCG, playing on their home deck as the lower ranked team. It is a dream position for Damien Hardwick's group and expect more records to tumble through September.

IIRC I think we smashed them first quarter and then got slowly reeled in.
Was a Burke/Harvey demolition out of the middle but If Richo kicked straighter or had some help up forward we could've won it.

True, but in all fairness how much crowd are they actually losing by playing those sides in Tassie as opposed to Victoria - maybe an extra 10k per game so 40k all up? - maybe

Tm is on the money. How many supporters do you know who are actually die hard hawk fans?
I know plenty that claim to be supporters/members, that were either turncoats or drop off and dont go to games when the chips are down
They are a disgrace that mob.

All-time crowds broken before 2nd preliminary final
The Australian
26 September 2017
The AFL has already surpassed its highest annual attendance on record. The previous figure of almost 7.15 million was overtaken before Saturday’s twilight Richmond-Greater Western Sydney preliminary final at the MCG.
The previous best season attendance of 7,147,052 was set in 2010, on the back of a grand final replay between Collingwood and St Kilda.
In a year of firsts for the AFL, a new figure was created before Saturday’s expected grand final turnout of 100,000, when 94,258 flocked to the MCG, after 53,817 attended the preliminary final at Adelaide Oval the previous night to see the Crows beat Geelong.
A total of 7,176,478 fans have attended the 206 AFL games in this highly-competitive season, breaking the previous record by 29,426.
This year’s total already far exceeds last year’s figure of 6,864,678.
The eight AFL finals in September have drawn 443,877 through the turnstiles, which includes a poor crowd of just 14,865 for the Giants-West Coast semi-final at Sydney’s Spotless Stadium in the second week of the finals series.
The record for a nine-game finals series of 614,783 was established in 2011 when seven finals were played at the MCG. Saturday’s grand final will be the fourth final at the MCG this year.
The boom in attendances this year has largely come about because of Richmond’s resurgence after their finishing position of 13th last year.
During the home-and-away season the Tigers were ranked No 1 in the league for crowds, with Richmond drawing 1,024,751 people through the gates in their 22 games.
Richmond’s home games attracted an average crowd of 55,958 and their two finals appearances this year at the MCG have averaged an incredible 94,643.
The Tigers record qualifying final attendance at the MCG of 95,028 was the highest involving Richmond since the 1982 grand final which attracted 107,536 to watch Carlton defeat the Tigers by 18 points.
It was also the highest non-grand final attendance since the 2010 preliminary final between Collingwood and Geelong which was played in front of 95,241.
The AFL enjoyed a record home-and-away attendance record this year of 6,732,601.
The AFL has had a ground-breaking season with TV ratings, participation, attendances and memberships all up in one of the most competitive years on record where the Eagles qualified for the finals in eighth place, 0.5 per cent ahead of Melbourne.
Two thirds of the 18 clubs recorded increased home-game attendances, while three clubs — Richmond (for the fourth time), Essendon and Collingwood — each attracted more than one million fans to their 22 home-and-away games.

3. Record breakers in the Melbourne sun
With the temperature pushing 30 degrees for the bounce on a perfect Melbourne day, 70,711 fans packed into the MCG, seeing the highest ever crowd between the two clubs. Just minutes before the bounce of the ball, lines outside the ground were pushing beyond the concourse with thousands missing the opening stanza. With restrictions in place outside the ground within 80 metres of the venue, the car parks around the ground were at full capacity pre-game. Having never met in a final, the previous record between the two clubs was 66,305 in round 18, 2015.

Further evidence we're now the biggest club in the country?!
Collingwood is struggling to get a big crowd for their final against GWS compared to our full house last year.
A crowd of about 68,000 for #AFLPiesGiants? Where have all the Pies fans gone?
Where have all the Pies fans gone?
CHRIS CAVANAGH reports …
COLLINGWOOD’S hopes of creating a cauldron-like atmosphere at the MCG on Saturday night are not looking great, with the venue expecting a crowd of only 68,000 for the club’s semi-final against Greater Western Sydney.
GWS faced Richmond at the MCG in a preliminary final last year, with 94,258 fans attending that match, all but a few thousand supporting the yellow and black.
Giants co-captain Callan Ward said yesterday his team had learnt from that experience ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Magpies, saying it did have an impact in the 36-point loss.
“You have to use the energy for you, not against you when the crowd is getting involved and the opposition is up and about,” Ward said.
“To use it to your advantage is one thing, but really in every game, and especially finals, it’s about staying in the game longer, being harder and tougher for longer.”

Sorry but right now ...
Not nice to read when you're facing having to make that call on your 13 year old lab. :'(

It's OK just a bit sensitive about it right now.
Really tough time for our family

I'm getting my staffy cremated when she dies so I can have her ashes spread with mine when I die. The thought of being without her is dreadful!
Sorry WP <3

Poor Jonty :(. Life is a real cruel prick in these situations. Take care, WP. All you can do is what you've always done and give him love.
-
Once it gets to that stage you already know in your heart of hearts what needs to be done
Easy for someone from the outside commenting on it , but delaying the inevitable is cruel if there is a lot of bad days
All the best with it WP, as a genuine dog lover, there is nothing worse

Up until the mid last week for every one bad day we got 4 good ones
Doggie dementia is a bitch, so too is chronic bronchitis, plus a few other things which I won't go into now :'(

Feeling for you WP
We have 6 dogs, well 5 now. Three are aged 17, 19 and 22. They get looked after like royalty by my wife.
Just had to put the 19 year old down. Lost a leg to cancer a couple of years ago and the cancer came back in a big way.
The 17 year old is good in the body but the mind and eyes have gone. So spends his days walking in circles
The 22 year old has a body failing him. Arthritis has hold of him. It is almost time but the tough little guy just does not want to give up. He is a Richmond supporter watches all the games with me.
