Richmond will take premiership cup on tour of regional Victoria and Australian capitals.

PETER ROLFE
Herald Sun
19 October 2017 7:00pm

AFTER waiting 37 years for Grand Final glory, Richmond is set to take its premiership cup on a whistlestop tour to share the spoils with fans.

The Tigers will take their 11th cup on a tour of regional Victoria and most Australian capital cities as they continue to soak up the glory of their drought breaking win.

Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said the team was determined to share the occasion with its dedicated band of supporters who waited so long for success.

“We are excited to take the premiership cup out to the Tiger Army faithful,’’ he said.

“We are a club with a national footprint with Richmond fans throughout Australia and they have been patiently waiting for a long time for the club to show off some silverware.’’

The tour, kicking off from the Punt Rd Oval on October 20, will take in the likes of Mildura, Echuca, Shepparton, Bendigo and Officer.

It will also venture to Sydney, Darwin, Perth, Hobart and the Gold Coast.

But the Tigers have already warned fans that not everyone will be able to pose for a photo with the cup “due to high demand’’.

Gale said all events would be free of charge.

“This is a great opportunity to take the cup to our loyal fans before we put it in a cabinet at Punt Road where everyone is always welcome to come and see it,’’ he said.

I thought it was extremely poor we couldn't hold or even touch the cup.

I've seen many pics of friends who were given the opportunity with their clubs to hold aloft the cup, but not today.

Unless I have missed something?

Couldn’t Dogs supporters take photos holding the cup for a price last year? Stupid time to do it anyway, most people are working and kids are at school. They’re touring it on weekends just about every place except where most of the supporters are  :thumbsdown

I messaged a couple of people here some days ago about the engraving on the cup and in particular the engraving of 'Richmond'

I was really concerned about the quality of the engraving because I felt it was really poorly done. I let it go because I thought that
maybe I had it wrong and my eyes were deceiving me but I have noticed on another forum the engraving as come up in a post and
that particular post has received a lot of thumbs up.

It seems to me, that it was a rushed job probably done on the cheap. Its a shame. First premiership cup in 37 years and they did
that to it. You'd think after waiting 37 years they'd take the cup to Hardy Bros and get it engraved there. What are other peoples thoughts.

Agree Ramps, it looks like it was hammered in by a Year 8 metalwork student. The text is off centre which I'm not pleased with, and Virgin should get their belt buckle off the cup, it will get scratched.

Gee the engraving is even worse than I thought in that shot. Its not properly centred, the font used isn't right, the "C" has been butchered and the "D" seems smaller than the rest, none of the engraving is crisp either. They've completely stuffed it up. What a shame. RFCO if he or she still comes in here should answer what happened with the engraving.

The Cup is in Shepparton today.

-----------------------------------------------

Die-hard Richmond fans will be able to get up close and personal with this year’s AFL premiership cup in Shepparton today.

The Tigers are midway through a tour across regional Australia, and the cup will be in Maude St Mall from 11am to 2pm, giving the Tiger Army faithful a rare chance to have a photo with the prized silverware.

After today’s visit to Shepparton, the cup will go into hiding for seven days, before reappearing on the Gold Coast on November 11.

Tigers’ trophy in town

by Hayden Thomson
Shepparton News
November 04, 2017

Richmond Football Club’s ‘Tiger Army’ was out in force yesterday with the premiership cup on show in Shepparton’s Maude St Mall.

‘‘The club is pleased and proud that we can bring a slice of the premiership here,’’ club spokeswoman Georgina Cahill said.

‘‘To thank our members in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.’’

Fans had the chance to have a photo with the one-of-a-kind piece of silverware, with a ‘‘steady flow’’ lining up during the three-hour showing.

‘‘Not too many dressed up in outrageous outfits but we had a few wild characters,’’ Ms Cahill said.

Shepparton resident Corey Foster was in the mall to grab a coffee when he saw the line-up and the shiny cup.

‘‘I’ve supported them since I was four ... I love Dusty but the list goes on and on,’’ he said.

‘‘I had faith ahead of the grand final and I hadn’t cried like I did for a long time after the boys won it ... what’s not to love about them.’’

If we're being picky, it looks like the gold leaves are off-centre to the original engraved AFL text. The word "Richmond" looks centered to the front two gold leaves.

Originally, I really didn't notice it but now it can't disputed

Yep, clearly not centred correctly apart from that the font type is fine.

Disappointing but there is nothing they can do about it unless we get another cup made... but no way should we do it

The centring isn't quite right the big disappointment is the lack of 'crispness' of the engraving and the D in Richmond is smaller
than the rest. Sadly there is nothing that can be done, hopefully next time they go to a proper jeweller like Hardy Bros and get it
engraved their. Hardys did the engraving for the Melbourne Cup for a fair while, they would have job a much better job. The cup
now seems to have lost a little bit of its lustre because of the poor engraving job. Its just disappointing. For a couple hundred
bucks this wouldn't have even been a problem. I wonder who made the decision to take the cup to the engravers that did it? They
deserve a huge kick up the backside for mine. Premiership cups don't grow on trees.

Who's to say the AFL didn't organise the engraving Ramps?

they control everything else, wouldn't surprise if they control this

And again who's to say it wasn't a reputable jeweller who has simply stuffed up? Sadly it happens more often than folks realise

Pretty sure clubs oversee the engraving - f.e. last year, Dogs didn't get around to having it done for ages - still wasn't even done when they were having the fan photos...also the fact they're usually not done in gold lettering like ours is suggests that was the club's idea... :shh

The engraving on the 1969 is really good in my opinion. I think also this latest cup engraving is off
because the engraving is too straight at the base and doesn't loop up as much.

The Richmond Football Club is bringing the Cup to Bunjil Place on Friday 1 December, and die-hard fans are invited to come and see this prized piece of silverware in all its glory and get a photo with it.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett said Council was thrilled to be able to bring this exciting opportunity to residents.

“We know that the Casey community is footy mad, as am I, and I’m sure there are plenty local Tigers fans who will be keen to continue to share and relish in the premiership excitement,” he said.

Richmond football manager Neil Balme said it had been great to share the glory of the club’s first premiership in 37 years with fans around the country.

“You realise how much people really care,” Balme said.

“It’s really nice to get it out to the fans to get their hands on it.”

There are plans for a few extra stops on the tour in the New Year, with Darwin and Hobart set to feature as well as Bendigo where the Tigers are headed for their community camp in February.

Fans can have photos with the cup from 10am to 4pm tomorrow at Punt Rd Oval.

Hey Tigers, want to take the cup? Fill in the spreadsheet

RICHMOND'S 2017 premiership cup is winding up its national tour in Tasmania after players took the chance to take the prized silverware to their home towns over the off-season.

Using a spreadsheet to book in time with the cup since their premiership triumph last September, the Tigers have been flying around the country and hand delivering it to each other.

The club's first premiership cup in 37 years has toured from Ballarat with Dan Butler to Kangaroo Island with Jason Castagna, even making its way to Windy Harbour, in the south-west of WA, with Kamdyn McIntosh.

Players have posted pictures of the tour on social media, with Shaun Grigg even booking time to introduce his newborn son, Spencer, to the premiership cup.

Grand Final hero Jack Riewoldt is now taking the cup on a week-long tour of Tasmania before it takes its place next to the club's other 10.

Premiership cup making way to Bendigo for camp

Bendigo Advertiser
Feb 8, 2018

RICHMOND supporters will have a chance to be photographed with the 2017 AFL premiership cup this Sunday in Bendigo.

The Tigers’ 11th premiership cup will be on display at the rotunda in Rosalind Park from 11am to 2pm.

Its arrival will come one day before Tigers players and coaches are due in Bendigo for their 2018 AFL Community Camp.

The Tigers will travel in two groups, with half the playing list to spend two days in Echuca.

A highlight of the community camp will be an open training session at the Queen Elizabeth Oval from 9.15am on Tuesday (February 13), with players to sign autographs after the session.

The club will work closely with AFL Victoria and its regional administration centres to provide football clinics and engage players with the broader Bendigo and Echuca communities.

its time to put the cup away into the trophy cabinet and look to the future. This cup has done a bigger tour than a Johnny Farnham retirement gig.

Tiger stars coming to Morwell

Latrobe Valley Express
Australian Community Media - Fairfax Media
26 July 2018

Gippsland-based Richmond supporters have the chance to get up close and personal with the 2017 premiership cup and two of the Tigers' prodigal sons next month when stars Jack Riewoldt and Alex Rance come to town.

The duo will make a special guest appearance at the Italian Australian Club in Morwell and will be joined by former great Dale Weightman, Yellow and Black: A Season With Richmond author Konrad Marshall and club stalwart Valy Crowe.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with all guests and will receive a free copy of the Tigers Almanac.

Riewoldt and Rance will be front and centre for questions on stage along with the other guests and there will also be a monster raffle and giveaways.

Gippsland Richmond Supporters Group president Chris Donoghue said he was "super excited" to be able to put on the event for local supporters.

"We've worked with them to put this together to have a big night here in the Valley for all the Tigers supporters," Donaghue said.

"To have the boys and the cup come down here is a bit of a coup for the community."

The event will be held on Saturday, August 18 at the Italian Australian Club from 4pm.
