A question asked by Ch7:

Not even close
-
Titus
Dyer
Hart
Bartlett
Bourke
Maurice Rioli
Richo
Weightman
And a few others still ahead of him IMHO.
Repeat his performances again this year with a flag and he will push his claim a lot more strongly....
-
Cotchin at his best has to be close to that group. When he's crashing his way through packs I can't think of anything more magnificent. Just wish he could find it more often.
-
Cotchin is somewhere between 10-20 .

I agree.
It's a really tough top 5 to get into let alone the top 10
I'd rank (at the moment) quite a few other players ahead of him such as The Ghost (ok one of my all time fav players so a bit biased, but still an awesome player), all of who yellowandblack mentioned in the previous post, Roach, Knights and probably about even with Sheeds.
Mind you though, I think with another 5 or 6 years of footy ahead of him, he will definitely be top ten, and maybe top 5.
But as I said the top 5 is seriously hard to break into.

And don't forget Roy Wright in all of this.

Sat next to the great man at a club function several years ago. He was a real gentleman. :clapping :bow
Huge loss to the Richmond family.
-
At this stage; No
In the future? Perhaps
-
Geez, there could be a few midfielders ahead of him, however...
Would Cotch displace Ian Stewart in the Team of the Century ?
I say yes due to consistency, longevity and output for 10 years.
Brownlow = tick
Premiership = tick
B&F = tick tick tick

he has gone beyond Richo,Flea & Maurice for me

he has gone beyond Richo,Flea & Maurice for me
Why? Richo played in crap sides and single handedly won games for us time and time again. Flea is a legend. He was so good and played for his state proudly on do many occasions, usually in its bests. Best handballer ever at Richmond. Put Maurice in our current side and we'd be near invincible. That's how good he was.

Brownlow medalist & Premiership Captain, joined a poo side
Flea & Maurice both joined great teams (that obviously went pear shaped)
Richo , agreed , flawed genius still think Cotch goes beyond him

Richo was......enigmatic.... :shh

Agree. Richo commonly had two opponents on him and still won the contest. He was one of the greatest contested marks in the game. Imagine if he had not been seriously injured in 1995. Richo holds the record for the most goals kicked at the MCG. Flea was another player who continued to play at a very high level during dark times. Maurice was a brilliant footballer. Trent hopefully will become an all time great. But the focus should be on whether Rance is now an all time great at Richmond. In the modern era he definitely fits the category as one of the club's greatest defenders.

And don't forget that Richo had some of the greatest dummy spits of all time when the ball didn't come to him.
Talk about the passion of winning games single handedly :thumbsup

Richo deserved to win the brownlow over Cooney.

Off the top of my head I could name quite a few others who deserved to win it that year ahead of Cooney.
