Kirby who was on our VFL list until Collingwood picked him up a few years ago has had to take the rest of the year off with a heart condition. :thumbsdown

They need to play Moore as a defender and Balta forward. Moore's kicking is woeful and Balta a little pannicky.
Skills been poor tonight. Dominated most of the game possession wise.
Will be lucky to win this one. Specially since the dogs can't miss.

Moore needs to step up and present as a forward option. Happy for Balta to learn how to defend as a good lesson. Very sloppy 3rd quarter.

Bloody hell, how did we lose that
Too many poor kicks and efforts by some.
-
Tiges really poor tonight in most areas. You can forgive a bad one every now and then but they will be disappointed with the skills
-
Clearly our ressies haven't learnt from the stuff ups by the seniors this time last year on how to protect a lead with less than a minute to go :facepalm.
You don't push numbers forward and leave the back half open :facepalm.
-
I blame the cameraman and those two idiots commentating. Amateur hour. :rollin :banghead

Final Score

Is that a coaching issue or players simply forgetting basic stuff ?.

See more upside in Chol to.be honest.
-
For mine:
Gathwaite was good
Menadue, Stengle, Bolton, Soldo, B Ellis were good.
Miles gets the pill but nothing happens as a result.
Chol looked good in patches but overall it was a poor display by the Tigers.
Must be said we played 2 players down for 3 quarters.

Agree with this.

Laughable suggestion. Moore's a far superior footballer at this point than Mabior "10 fumbles for every highlight" Chol. :shh

Who said far superior? Moore has a huge issue...his kicking is horrendous. Chol is playing better footy this year IMO.
-
Chol's improved immensely this year.. ...however I'm still more confident of Moore making it at this stage....like to see him him replace McIntosh... :shh
-
Anyway back to the match.....we played better for longer and should've won but they played smarter and did..... :shh
-
Good old fashion "Richmondy" effort.....almost forgotten what they were like....hopefully that's our Mundy moment (though it was more like the finish of the GWS loss) out of the way for the weekend......#ShouldagotSchache.... :shh

Dogs snatch victory from VFL Tigers
Bring the fight.
Richmond VFL knew that Footscray was going to be up for the fight from the get-go, and they were, right to the final minute.
Josh Schache had an indifferent night, but when his left-foot shot at goal in the final minute sailed through from 50, the Dogs fans erupted, and the Tigers fans groaned.
On a brisk autumn night at the Whitten Oval, it was the Dogs prevailing at the kennel, 11.5 (71) to 9.16 (70).
The final quarter mirrored much of the game, with both sides trading the momentum, and playing the game in their front halves.
The Dogs & Tigers both brought the heat at the contest, with efficiency inside forward 50 a premium.
Schache ended the game with three goals, including the last and fought out an intriguing battle with Ryan Garthwaite.
The resolute Tigers’ defender was one of the visitor’s best, but the final one-on-one play with Schache, which led to the match-winning goal, really stung.
Garthwaite was set up goal-side of the midfield stoppage, waiting patiently for the blast kick from congestion.
Unfortunately for the star Tiger back, the ball squirted out into space, bounced into the corridor, where Schache was able to cruise to 50, steady and goal, which sunk the Tigers.
It was clear from the outset, Footscray had a point to prove and was seeking atonement for a slow start to the year.
The Dogs slotted the first two majors, immediately placing Richmond on the back foot.
Luckily for the Tigers, young defender Reuben Hayward was able to drift forward, find space inside-50, and kick truly.
Footscray repelled the Tigers at will in the opening term, streaming forward and capitalising the better once inside-50.
The duel between Ivan Soldo and Rob Campbell proved pivotal, with both ruckmen claiming patches of dominance, be it in the contest, or around the ground.
Campbell drifted forward late in the first quarter and goaled after the quarter-time siren celebrating with tremendous exuberance.
The Dogs had their tails up heading into the first break, but the Tigers brought the heat immediately in the second term.
Anthony Miles, in customary fashion burrowed after the ball at the centre bounce, scrubbed a kick forward, and the Tigers went to work.
Richmond’s intensity rose in the second term, garnering repeat entries inside-50 and started to hit the scoreboard.
The Tigers opening goal of the quarter came via the sure right boot of gun wingman, Tom Silvestro, who eased through a set-shot from long range, which got the Richmond faithful jumping.
Footscray answered straight back, but goals to Miles and Shai Bolton ensured the Tigers took a handy six-point lead into the main break.
The Tigers slotted the all-important first goal of the second half, again, through Tom Silvestro.
Silvestro was the very happy recipient of some forward-50 brilliance from Tyson Stengle.
Stengle was electric for most of the night and was ever a threat once the ball hit the deck in the front half.
The dynamo small forward finished with a single major, but it was his work setting up goals for his teammates that really stood out.
After the Tigers kicked the second-half opener, the Dogs slammed on the next four, to go into the final change with an 11-point lead.
The way the game was played in the opening three quarters, meant the key to victory would be making the most of your opportunities inside-50, and the Dogs did just that.
The Tigers were able to regain the lead, after Footscray kicked the opener of the final term, and held a slender five-point margin in the dying minutes, but were unable to hold on.
Richmond was down two troops in the second half, with Nathan Drummond (hamstring) and Ben Miller (concussion after a head knock) taking no part after halftime.
Anthony Miles ground out another flint-hard performance through the midfield, finishing with 29 disposals, and a classy goal.
Corey Ellis provided plenty of class and poise off half-back, collecting 25 disposals.
Shai Bolton was forever lively up forward, slotting two goals, and nearly taking mark of the night on multiple occasions.

VFL Report: Round 5
Brenton Mann, richmondfc.com.au May 8, 2018 3:53 PM
Anthony Miles
29 disposals, one goal, seven clearances and nine inside-50s
“Anthony Miles was a clearance king and worked really hard. Not as many tackles for him, but still had seven clearances.”
Corey Ellis
25 disposals, four tackles, eight handball receives and four inside-50s
“Corey played off half-back and played a really good role down there. He gave balance to the half-backs. His critical contest work was outstanding. He won the ball in tight and fed it off to the runners.”
Liam Baker
24 disposals, six handball receives, four clearances and four tackles
“Baker’s work rate was a feature. He worked up and down the ground, and won plenty of the ball, he was hard for them (Footscray) to match-up on.”
Connor Menadue
22 disposals, 11 handball receives, six inside-50s and five marks
“Connor’s run off half-back was a feature. He broke the lines and sent the ball forward, which has been a stand-out in his game over the last few weeks.”
Callum Moore
17 disposals, five marks and five inside-50s
“Callum probably didn’t quite have the impact that he wanted aerially, but he was still dangerous around the ball and gets on a lot of loose balls, but we want to see him a bit stronger in the air.”
Brandon Ellis
16 disposals, four tackles, five marks and five rebound-50s
“Brandon came back with a great attitude. He made the players around him better and really embraced the VFL program. He played a really good game. He got tagged, but although he didn’t ‘rack ‘em up’ he had good impact.”
Patrick Naish
16 disposals and six handball receives
“Naish has been working on the defensive side of his game, and again, that was much improved. Ball in hand, he didn’t waste any disposals and he took the simple option. It was a solid game.”
Ryan Garthwaite
14 disposals, 10 spoils and four marks
“Garthwaite was outstanding. He’s in form. He had ten spoils, took chop-out marks and is leading the defence really well.”
Shai Bolton
12 disposals, two goals and four tackles
“Shai was quiet early, and played a different role up on a wing. When the whips were cracking and the game was up for grabs, he really stood-up, particularly in the last quarter.”
Noah Balta
10 disposals and five rebound-50s
“Noah’s investment in the game and his mentality was a lot sharper this week. He’s still learning, there’s still some positioning things that he’s working on. He needs to make sure he’s predictable with the ball.”
Mabior Chol
10 disposals, one goal and five tackles
“Mabior didn’t quite have the impact that he had last week. He still had patches of brilliance, but a bit more consistency which is what we’re after.”
Callum Coleman-Jones
Nine disposals and seven tackles
“It was great to see a big man laying seven tackles. We would like to see him impact more in the air.”
Tyson Stengle
Eight disposals, one goal and four tackles
“Tyson looked dangerous, as he always does, but he found it difficult to find space.”
Nathan Drummond
Seven disposals and three tackles
“Drummond was tackling and running hard early, but unfortunately he went off early with a hamstring injury.”
Ivan Soldo
26 hitouts, seven disposals and four tackles
“Soldo had a really big battle in the ruck. They (Footscray) had a couple of really good ruckmen in there and they went head-to-head, and it was a good battle.”
Ben Miller
Three disposals and one tackle
“Ben Miller didn’t last that long, he got knocked out after suffering a knock to the head, so he didn’t spend much time on the ground.”
Brandon Wood
34 disposals, seven clearances, four tackles and seven inside-50s
“Wood went head-to-head with a couple of their (Footscray’s) big clearance guys, it was a good battle. He had lots of clearances, lots of tackles, so it was game on.”
Tom Silvestro
20 disposals, two goals, six tackles and three clearances
“Tom, you talk about him being a role player, but he’s better than that. He’s a gun. He kicked some important goals.”
Jacob Ballard
18 disposals, six handball receives and two inside-50s
“Jacob had less of the ball this week but played a lot more forward. He had less impact, but he played a different role.”
Blake Grewar
14 disposals, five inside-50s and three tackles
“Blake had a solid game. He didn’t quite impact the way he did last week, but he’s important for our mix.”
Reuben Hayward
13 disposals, one goal, six handball receives and four rebound-50s
“Reuben spent a little time on the wing and also down back. He’s been awesome for us the last four weeks as the 23rd (player).”
Steve Morris
12 disposals, three tackles and three inside-50s
“As our captain, played his role up-forward, because we had a different mix this week and then went back. He really influenced the contest and shored up the defence.”
Jake Aarts
11 disposals, four marks and six tackles
“Had six tackles and a solid game without standing out.”
