They'll be better without the big lumbering Diplodocus... :shh
-
Pinhead Patton.
-
Bad luck to the bloke but he's too heavy at the moment for his knees. Either slow down and play like plugger or lose mass.
-
Tough for the dude feel for him
But really stiff poo, maybe lids can step in and play full forward

Match preview: Greater Western Sydney v Richmond

Jul 10, 2018
SUMMARY
The Giants' disappointing loss to West Coast snapped a four-game winning streak and saw them drop the four places they climbed last week, sending them back to 10th on the ladder. They now welcome the rampaging Tigers to Spotless Stadium on Saturday night, with the premiers a game and percentage clear in top spot. Richmond's only three losses this season have come on the road, giving the home side some hope, but its form has been exceptional over the past three weeks. The Giants kicked themselves out of the contest against the Eagles while their onballers were also well beaten, so the likes of Stephen Coniglio, Callan Ward, Josh Kelly and Dylan Shiel will be keen to take a big scalp in the Tigers, who are ranked 17th for clearances this season. With Kane Lambert, Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin and Shane Edwards all in brilliant touch, the midfield battle will be one to watch.
WHERE AND WHEN: Spotless Stadium, Saturday, July 14, 7.20pm AEST
LAST FIVE MEETINGS
2PF, 2017, Richmond 15.13 (103) d Giants 9.13 (67) at the MCG
R18, 2017, Richmond 9.10 (64) d Giants 6.9 (45) at the MCG
R9, 2017, Giants 11.12 (78) d Richmond 10.15 (75) at Spotless Stadium
R19, 2016, Giants 17.9 (111) d Richmond 3.5 (23) at UNSW Canberra Oval
R14, 2015, Richmond 10.18 (78) d Giants 10.9 (69) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. When the teams last played in the 2017 second preliminary final the Giants had 59 more disposals, took 24 more marks, and won the inside 50 and clearance tallies but the Tigers still won the match. Daniel Rioli kicked a career-high four goals for the Tigers.
2. Richmond continues to be one of the best defensive teams this season, ranked second for points conceded and giving up an average score of just 70 points per game.
3. GWS and Richmond will meet for the 10th time and the Tigers hold a clear advantage winning seven games to two, including two by more than 100 points.
4. One possible advantage for GWS could be in contested possessions. It is ranked third averaging 151.9 per game, while the Tigers are seventh with an average of 148.3.
5. One of the few areas Richmond has struggled this season is clearances ranked 17th with an average of 33.8; in contrast the Giants have been impressive ranked second with 39.5 per game.
6. Richmond star Shane Edwards was ranked second in the League in round 16 with a Schick AFL Player Rating of 25.9 against Adelaide, and he's risen to 24th in the competition.
IT’S A BIG WEEK FOR…
Young forward Harry Himmelberg will have a likely match-up with Richmond star Alex Rance, and if he can limit the Tiger's influence, and hit the scoreboard, he could be a match-winner for the home side.
PREDICTION: Richmond by 15 points

GWS Giants may roll dice on Toby Greene, Brett Deledio as Tigers come to town.

I hope they do

If they rush the sniper back in I hope someone cleans him up

If Deledio gets over 8 possessions I would be surprised

Coniglio told AFL.com.au that taking on the Tigers will sharpen the focus of the home side and get them back on track.
Brownlow medallists Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin will bring the star power to Sydney, but Coniglio believes the likes of Kane Lambert, Shaun Grigg, Shane Edwards and Brandon Ellis add important elements that makes the ladder leaders' midfield so formidable.
"I think they complement each other really well, they're such a well-balanced unit," Coniglio said.
"One of their real strengths is the different looks they can get in there, whether it's 'Dusty' going forward or their half forwards coming up, or Grigg playing in the ruck.
"They've got a lot of weapons in there that they can turn too, but in the end, it comes down to the mentality of our players.
"We beat them here last year and they went on the win the premiership.

Only beat us with a last minute goal decision turnover..... :banghead
-
Only beat us with a last minute goal decision turnover..... :banghead
Was the correct decision
-
Only beat us with a last minute goal decision turnover..... :banghead
We were 5 goals up early in the 3rd, should never been in the position we ended up in
-
Real dange game IMO
-
Only beat us with a last minute goal decision turnover..... :banghead
Was the correct decision
The correct decision would have been to call a review at the time rather than go to the centre after giving it the all clear, disrupting our stuctures and then having someone calling it back to the goal square.
Complete amateur hour.
-
It wouldn't have been an issue to worry about if we had kicked straight at goal at the start of the last quarter. We simply choked and made fundamental errors as we as yet didn't know how to win. Thankfully, after Dimma had repeatedly said we'll learn from those losses 3 weeks in a row lol, we eventually did learn how to win when it mattered most against the Giants in September :thumbsup.
-
Shiel ready to return the favour over Richmond headache.
"Unfortunately I copped one on the chin and it ended my game. It's not an issue, I don't really think about it any more, I won't say I'm happy that Richmond and Cotch went on to win the flag but it is what it is and I've moved on."
"When you get blokes like Cotchin, and you get guys like Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene for us, they're guys that have made themselves really special players because they play on the edge and they seem to find themselves in those high impact collision situations that are close to the line," Shiel said.
"That's a big part of our game and why people like to go watch it, for those sort of players.
"They're one game clear of a pretty tight competition so I think that's pretty impressive.
"They're a team that I enjoy to watch, what they're doing is working really well for them. I'm not going to sit here and pump them up too much because I'm hoping to knock them off this weekend."

Self entitled sook. Hope he pulls a hammy in the 1st qtr tonight
-
“ i won't say I'm happy that Richmond and Cotch went on to win the flag but it is what it is and I've moved on."
Yeah right moved on
-
Far out, what is Shiel supposed to say?
He does play for an opposition club, and if he wants to use that hurt to motivate himself, good on him. I would expect our players to do the same.
I think his comments are quite composed.

For a sook, yep very composed
-
C Ellis is a bit slow
-
Theyve been cleaner than us but jeepers we’re flat footed. Should have conceded another one there...
-
Commentators driving me nuts already
-
We’re in strife here.
-
Not looking good.
-
When was the last time Cotchin kicked one like that? Hmm...
-
noice
-
Castanza showboating .....
that should of been a goal
-
Castanza showboating .....
that should of been a goal
Why he’s never gunna be more than a solid role player, if we had have pinched another there would have been really damaging.
Higgins has been very good.
-
Higgins and Rioli have been awesome, Guns for the future of this club. Some of the others have been running with the choke on til they warm up but they are coming good.
-
Well that was a crap quarter. Kicks straight to the opposition and dropping sitters :facepalm. Lucky to be only 9 points down. Lost count on the number of marking contests we lost that quarter or the number of times we allowed the ball to get over the back despite having 2-3 Tigers trying to punch from behind :banghead. Didn't turn up to play for the first 15 minutes and had no forward structure to kick to. Started to control general play in the last ten with repeat entries but kept scoring points :scream.
-
Dusty having an ordinary first half like last week. Fumbly :P.
-
Great mark Jack :clapping.
Goal :gotigers. Back to only 3 pts.
Rich 3.7-25
GWS 4.4-28
-
Great kick Caddy :clapping :gotigers
Rich 4.7-31
GWS 5.4-34
-
What a kick Caddy
-
Sai Bolton you twit.just collude and force th spoil
-
Geez george :banghead
-
What is Georgie doing tonight? Reminds me of his Qualifying Final. Making the easy look difficult :P.
-
forward pressure has been shocking. Bolton and George FFS time to wake up
-
That's better Dusty. Goal :gotigers
In front! :o
Rich 5.7-37
GWS 5.5-35
-
Dumb stuff by Rioli. We had the free and set shot.
-
Can our small forwards stop self-destructing :banghead.
-
Too slow to kick it Shai
-
Get richo off commentating
-
Why do modern players run off the line when taking set shots? No surprise Georgie's kick went right as that's where he ran out too.
-
Georgie could have had 4 goals by now if he could kick straight. Another miss :banghead.
Hope Jack's knee is okay :help.
-
Dusty is angry, but he has pinned half their teamj on the tit tonight
-
One umpire says Greene ducked yet the other ump pays it too high ::).
Greene deliberately buckled at the knees.
40 - 42
-
Oh and Toby ducks into a tackle and turns a free to us into a goal...same thing Dusty got pumped for
-
How did we do that? :lol
Goal to Prestia. Back in front.
Rich 6.10-46
GWS 6.6-42
-
they let them kick a goal with 20 seconds to go...
-
Terrible team play at CHB. Gifted them a goal with 21 secs to go :facepalm.
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.6 6.10-46
GWS 4.4 7.6-48
Goals: Rioli 2, Riewoldt, Caddy, Martin, Prestia.
Castagna has 3 points.
-
Wow. Can Castagna play a worse game?
B Ellis who is he? Wow. Best half I’ve seen him play ever more of that please.
I think we will eventually break them if they stop Kelly getting the ball.
-
Georgie the worst converter of chances in the comp, I wish coaches would tell him not to run towards the pocket when no one is in front of him.
-
Dusty having trouble with the alternative rules ... you know the rules which say that Dusty wont be getting any frees tonight! :thumbsdown
-
Dominated that quarter in general play with so many inside 50s but butchered so many goal scoring chances especially by our small forwards :banghead. No surprise they made us pay with 2 of the last 3 goals in red time from their few forward forays :banghead.
-
Get richo off commentating
Agreed!
I love the great man but FFS he tries to be over diplomatic.
I’ve actually thought that for a while.
-
Castagna, Geez his foot skills are attrocious
-
Shai tries to do too much every time he gets the ball, just needs to keep it moving til he has an opening coz he gets mugged every time.
poo inconsistent umpiring as usual. Apparently it is illegal to tackle these GWS princesses lest they add to their huge first round pick injury list so I spose the AFL is protecting it's investment...
-
Castagna, Geez his foot skills are attrocious
Yep
-
Whatever the result tonight I am so over Houli :thumbsdown
-
Stengle for Castagna next week....
-
Whatever the result tonight I am so over Houli :thumbsdown
Yep
-
Loved Jack telling Caddy to pull his head in :clapping
-
Castagna's only saving grace is his pressure and chasing, If he could kick goals he would be bigger than Eddie Betts with the opportunities he gets. He wins a lot of ball.
-
Whatever the result tonight I am so over Houli :thumbsdown
Should have come in through the reserves. Has no touch.
-
Got to take our chances big time way to many misses.Take our time to rushing play.
-
Houli ? Htf did you pull him out of all the fuckups tonight? LOL He just got back in the side and he is playing fine
-
We've had only 17 tackles. That's terribly low :help.
Richmond's 17 first half tackles is their lowest return from any first half of their 2018 season, failing to surpass the previous low mark of 19 tackles recorded against St Kilda in Round 10.
Dion Prestia has enjoyed the best first half of his injury-interrupted season. His 17 disposals and five inside 50's are both team-high measures for the first half, and he was rewarded with a goal just before half time.
GWS have launched 4.1.25 from their attacking midfield zone in the first half of tonight's match. The Giants average 24 points per game launched from this zone, the sixth-lowest average of any side in the competition this year.

Exactly give some time.
-
Martin has kicked it to an Oppo player four times
-
Up the anti in pressure and tackling to.
-
B Ellis who is he? Wow. Best half I’ve seen him play ever more of that please.
Agree, Tigeritis. Brandon has played well.
-
Too slow to kick it Shai
Shai holds on to it for too long and tries too much. He's inexperienced. Should be better by now but it is what it is
-
Houli ? Htf did you pull him out of all the stuffups tonight? LOL He just got back in the side and he is playing fine
Exactly give some time.
Happy to give him time but IMO first game back should have Eden in the VFL. Woeful thus far
-
We've been scragged by the jumper without the ball 3 times in the first 2 minutes yet no frees ::).
-
I wouldn't say woeful seemed OK to me
-
That was a mark to Ellis. Hello front on contact, ump! ::)
-
whats with punching marks out of our hands decisions after they have grabbed them, thats twice tonight
-
Nice two-handed throw ::).
-
and nank slung without the ball
-
c ellis is useless
-
Continually turn over the ball and that's you get :banghead.
46 - 57
-
Getting smashed in the clearances this qtr.
-
No compusure rushing it.
-
Few guys need to lift Caddy been passenger today.
-
That was soft, Tiges! Too much low percentage cute stuff and not enough bread and butter hard in the contest stuff.
46 - 64
-
Ballwatching again! This is the worst we've played since the Eagles loss. Poor workrate, reactive and soft! How do you get 1-vs-3 15m out from the opposition goal.
46 - 70
-
We're gone officially. Not on from the get go and forward line completely dysfunctional.
-
Get to basics.Simple footy not doing it.
-
Another stuffed up goalscoring opportunity. Bolton either had to go for goal from 40 or dish it off early. Waited too long.
-
No left foot Callum.
-
C'mon George ffs
-
Few gone missing.
-
Hello goalkicking practice this week :banghead.
-
Absolute dribble tonight
-
Goal-less and 5 behinds for the quarter. More scoring shots but down by 19. Pathetic Richmond :banghead

GWS 4.4 7.6 10.10-70

time for townsend to come back in the side
-
Absolute dribble tonight
Yep. Didn't turn up at the start and we've played like it all night. Tried to flick the switch but when we have the momentum in general play (2nd qtr & last 10 mins Q3) we can't kick straight whereas they are cleaner and taking their chances when they have the momentum.

Stengle kicked six in the ressies. Townsend can come in for Moore. Butler in for Bolton.
-
Rioli goal :gotigers
Clever by Jack and well done by Caddy to both keep the ball alive.
Rich 7.15-57
GWS 10.10-70
-
Can we win a centre clearance tonight, Tiges? Always having to win possession from defence :banghead.
-
see that bs high tackle call?
-
The umpiring tonight has been a joke. How was that a free against nankervis
-
Pressure and tackling :gotigers
-
Not out of this.
-
Big Nank .... big mark 25 out :clapping
Goal! :gotigers
Rich 8.15-63

Dusty dribbles one but jack can only get it off the side of the boot. Point.
64 - 71
-
no stuffing tackle...
-
Got to take our chances.
-
why is weak link Grigg our last line of defense ffs
-
Dusty has to take the blame for that. That poor kick straight to a Giant at CHB opened us up. Had prestia to his side.

Short you freak

finally we get a legit call and they sook LOL
-
they shouldn't sweat it, its castagna the point kicker
-
Georgie's free. This could go anywhere but straight.
Poster :facepalm. 5 points & 1 OOTF.
71 - 77
-
Greene dives head first into the tackle. That's HTB, ump ::)
-
What was that kick Corey?
-
History repeated. Bolton with a late shot on goal.
OOTF :facepalm.
-
useless under pressure
-
Dumb stupid footy Tiges :banghead.
-
That's it. Point to them with a minute to go.
71 - 78
-
Didn't help that the stuffing umpire pumped us not paying tackles either. game over with that point.
-
WoW! Jack goal.
77 - 78
26 secs to go.
-
Utter garbage
-
Only got ourselves to blame. Don't deserve to win if you can't kick straight :banghead.
10.17 and gawd knows plus Castagna & Bolton's OOTFs.
-
Utter garbage
you can blame bolton and george for that loss
happy to see neither again
-
Shai Bolton cannot play again this year and he can go. And not for the missed goal earlier. Soft all night. Pathetic.
Lot of passengers tonight.
Really disappointed with our play tonight. Forward line dysfunctional and Castagna cost us the game.
-
i said the other day Bolton's disposal mirrored Morris's
ANYONE STILL DISAGREE????????????
-
send castagna and bolton back to the VFL. the pressure small forward gameplan around jack only works if everyone harasses and converts
-
Final Score
Richmond 2.6 6.10 6.15 10.17-77
GWS 4.4 7.6 10.10 11.13-79

-
Shai seriously needs to improve, he is so not there yet. OOTF man.
-
i said the other day Bolton's disposal mirrored Morris's
ANYONE STILL DISAGREE????????????
ive never seen anything ever to suggest he will fit into this side.
Unless you count bad decision making, terrible disposal and lack of forward pressure
He is garbage
-
stuffing furious!!
-
Castagna is very unpredictable. Shai not up to it yet, he might be a late bloomer though like Shedwards. GWS has a lot of quality and depth, too much to be giving so many opportunities. Turnovers...sheesh, when Dusty is feeding them quality ball, we are pushing poo up hill. Does he need some specs?
-
Stengle might have been handy tonight. Must come in next week.
-
Why the hell when they kick for goal do they step out to the right? They inevitably miss
-
Dusty had some absolutely amazing kicks tonight which put us back into it but Geez he also kicked it straight to the opposition. I like that he goes for the difficult kick to open up play but some of them were very questionable
-
we missed the Butler tonight
-
Why the hell when they kick for goal do they step out to the right? They inevitably miss
Agree tdy. My pet hate is poor goalkicking technique. Absolute cop out by modern players to blame fatigue when they can't even run straight at the centre of the goal with their run up :banghead.
-
Stengle has to play next week, Castagna woeful kicking and zero pressure costly, Rioli trying to take advantage when we got the free right in front of goal was selfish and costly
-
Castagna was rubbish and he is a player who could cost us a big game with his selfishness. Bolton can go home just terrible. Corey Ellis is VFA standard footballer at best and sadly for us is a major bust at the draft. Callum Moore doesn't do enough either. GWS deserved there win tonight, but we will beat them at the MCG. Had a lot of players down tonight but its hard if your playing 3 down as we were, Bolton, C.Ellis and Moore all ordinary its hard to win.
-
I love how everyone has a go at Bolton. The guy is only 19. He wasn't alone out there where errors are concerned.
We lost by only 2 points and were reamed by the umpires. We could not get a holding the ball practically all night.
-
we missed the Butler tonight
And Graham. We as a team only had 17 tackles in the first half. Graham would get close to that by himself.
Too soft tonight. We had too many passengers who wanted the game on the outside.
-
I love how everyone has a go at Bolton. The guy is only 19. He wasn't alone out there where errors are concerned.
We lost by only 2 points and were reamed by the umpires. We could not get a holding the ball practically all night.
We all Bolton to do well but he was terrible tonight Doc as were a few others.
-
yeah...Graham has hurt, we looked a lot softer without some hard tackles
-
I don't think Shai doesn't give it enough, he is gonna need time but we have become impatient because we don't know how long this little golden age is going to last and we have been starving for a long time, we need to feast now lol
-
I love how everyone has a go at Bolton. The guy is only 19. He wasn't alone out there where errors are concerned.
We lost by only 2 points and were reamed by the umpires. We could not get a holding the ball practically all night.
stuff him, what has he done that everyone rates. He obviously rates himself as a footballer with his contract delay
seen enough
-
Stengle has to play next week, Castagna woeful kicking and zero pressure costly, Rioli trying to take advantage when we got the free right in front of goal was selfish and costly
Good point Rioli was pretty stupid. Not just the misses cost us.
-
i said the other day Bolton's disposal mirrored Morris's
ANYONE STILL DISAGREE????????????
Well what description can you use for Castagna ball use? Garbage would be a start.
-
I love how everyone has a go at Bolton. The guy is only 19. He wasn't alone out there where errors are concerned.
We lost by only 2 points and were reamed by the umpires. We could not get a holding the ball practically all night.
We all Bolton to do well but he was terrible tonight Doc as were a few others.
The point is he hasn't had much experience in the firsts. He has come in generally in big high pressure games and is expected to play well. He wasn't the reason we lost tonight. His more experienced team mates made several crucial errors throughout the night.
-
The only positive tonight is this may be the loss and the kick up the backside we need before September. Remind a few players the over-cute globetrotter stuff doesn't replace the bread and butter hard contested stuff.
-
Bolton had to kick at least a point. but still the team was 24 points down at some point and we got pants in the first quarter. sloppy performance all around. Need to sharpen up leading into the finals. A big body like Townsend should fix that and stengle maybe to keep the small forwards accountable
-

Unfortunately his biggest mistake was to pick the wrong manager....
-
Bolton was ok...

Astbury

Much worse tonight
-
If Townsends goal kicking is back then yeah I'd agree. He would be a good in but I haven't heard of his form in the magoos, anybody?
-
Terrible game of footy by most Tigers tonight and should not have been in the contest. Beaten all over the ground and extremely sloppy by most. :banghead
-
Quite simply, kicking for goal was an issue along with our i50 play when the millionaire style of play hasn’t cost us as the games haven’t been so close.
You can’t kick 17 points - how many were set shots? and win games against quality.
FWIW, I just don’t think Cellis, Moore and Bolton look AFL quality against top 8 teams
-
Bolton was terrible, very poor game. But the Doc is right, he didn't cost us the game. He will need more time but right now, yea, he's a bit off.
Castagna finally cost us a game with his terrible skills. It goes unnoticed so often because we're always winning. But when the day finally came when we were trailing but getting back into the game, dominating possession etc, we needed the guy on the end of all the hard work to finish. And that was him on 6-7 occasions. He stuffed every single one of them.
Higgins not up to scratch right now either but a few seasoned campaigners were poohouse too

Had about 10 touches a fortnight ago and got suspended.

Corina Ellis - seen enough.....you are the weakest link - goodbye :wave
...and your sister Brenda at her pant shyting best tonight - looking forward to AT's spin on that effort...maybe he'll only give her an honourable mention in the votes this week..... :shh
Bolton - TO FREEEOOOOOO AWAY YOU GO!!!! :wave
Vlastuin - can only conclude the week off did him no favours.... :shh
Houli - rustier than wrongandbold's trombone....... :shh
Higgins - ok it's been a laugh but the joke's over now....go back and learn to be the serious footballer that got you promoted in the first place again... :shh
Martin - how about kicking it to your own team once in a while.... :pullhair
Castagna - :facepalm
Leaving Shiel unmarked at the last centre bounce..... :facepalm :facepalm
Dimma - make some stuffing moves.....close finishes still yours and the side's weakness.... :help
Pretty much everyone did something stupid at some point.... :banghead
Bad conversion, sloppy forward fifty play, being cute and the poor skills of our lesser players were eventually going to cost us a match sooner or later- rather it now than in two months.... :shh
Other than that - not too worried - their best perfrmance all year only good enough to beat our worst performance all year by two points with four less shots.....see ya at 'G....:shh
-
Wanna mention Brando for his effort tonight :clapping Put under the pump consistently but geez his hands are good. One of our bests again :gotigers

Karen Ellis. :banghead

I hate to say it but George cost us that game tonight- no question.
But unlike others, he at least had a decent crack.
Putrid- CEllis, Bolton, Moore, Grigg and Houli.
Most weeks we can carry a few not up to it types but today there were just too many.
Rance, Short and Jack were good.
Not the end of the world but we had better be switched on next week.

Caddy's been pretty ordinary since the dreamtime match..... :shh
-
Didn't rock up simple as that slow, pressure and tacking down bad misses etc.To many passengers for me.It's ok to be critical of Bolton and Ellis how about the seniors tho.Caddy has been poor for a few games now.Again to cute at times we are at our best playing the game simple.

Watched a game at Spotless the other week and was genuinely concerned about this game because the ground at this time of year gets very slippery with dew. Unfortunately our game scouts havent noticed this because we clearly tried to play cute dry weather football which at times cost us dearly.
Lesson learned and move on to the Saints next week who will be extra pumped after their win, could be another danger game if we cant kick straight. Its been a problem for some time our butchering of opportunities inside 50 but has been ignored because we have been winning by some margin regardless.
Really irritates me too when Dusty who can kick 50 metres on the run no problem at all will try a very difficult short pass from inside 50 when he is good enough to just take responsibility and slot it himself.
-
Getting sick of conceding clearances. We just let the opposition waltz out every time. One time Grigg stayed down, their ruck missed the ball completely and they still won the clearance. If there was one time to have a crack it was the final one and we just let them casually clear it.
-
GWS is one side you cant concede the clearances to - particularly on a smaller ground....
...that set up at the last centre bounce boggled the mind - soon as I saw Shiel standing on his own I knew what was going to happen....yeah we needed blokes forward but stuff me ya gotta actually get the stuffing ball first.......
-
Just back from the game, to put it bluntly we played abysmally
More really poor players than good ones, that was the game in a nutshell
Bolton was horrible, his refusal to chase, pressure, offer 2nd and 3rd efforts were disappointing but sadly not surprsing. Wont comment on his last shot at goal.
Moore -dear in the headlights tonight.
Haynes used both Moore and Bolton to create the Giants clearance off HB. Why we didn't try and negate that I'll never know
CEllis - did he play? Another really disappointing game. Not sure if it's worth bothering anymore
Castagna - his goal kicking was shambolic but in the pressure stakes in the F50, he along with Jack and Rioli were the only ones pressuring all night
Have no doubt Townsend plays tonight things would have different. One tackle on a Haynes or Davis and things change
Cotchin, Astbury, Lambert, Caddy were all disappointing.
Just a shocker
Only positive of the night is that we played so badly and only lost by 2 points
-
What I don't understand is why Grigg is still playing second ruck when Moore is in the side.... :huh
-
Townsend should have played and tgged Whitfield. Posted that acweek ago and thought it was pretty obvious
-

Very true. Pretty much the whole team didn’t bring it. We are known for certain things we do which is the Richmond way and there’s no one really that can be happy with their performance.
-
Timing is everything even when the same mistake is made.
When we lost by under a kick up there last year, we rightly got lambasted in the media for giving up a goal in the last minute due to not setting up properly defensively for their kick-in.
Last night, we coughed up a goal and the lead from a centre bounce with 21 secs to go before half-time by once again not getting numbers back to protect our lead :banghead. Not a peep from anyone including the media, but it proved just as costly as our poor goalkicking. Even Caddy, when he was interviewed walking off the ground at half-time, mentioned that giving up late goals like that can prove to be costly. It certainly did! :scream.

Port losing has dulled the pain a little.

And Eddiewood.....

north lost too. always puts a smile on the proverbial dial
-
Hawthorn and Carlton too. Unfortunately Melbourne and Essendon got up and thus spoilt the perfect remedy for minimizing the pain of our loss. :shh

Tigers’ loss to Giants down to poor kicking not the umpires
Greg Denham, Bridget Carter, Scott Murdoch
The Australian
16 July 2018
Stop being a sook Dimma, even in jest.
After Greater Western Sydney outlasted Richmond in a thriller at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night, Tigers coach Damien “Dimma” Hardwick took a swipe at the umpiring over free kicks for high tackles.
He may have been referring to isolated incidents that went against his team, when returning Giant Toby Greene got one and Tigers star Dustin Martin did not.
Hardwick obviously thought there was an imbalance in the way some tackling free kicks were umpired.
“Look, I can’t really comment on the umpiring, but it would be fair to say we’re going to do a bit of ducking practice at training tonight,” Hardwick said trying to disguise his displeasure with a laugh.
“The game is incredibly hard to umpire, let’s make no mistake about that. It was a pretty good contest, transition-wise it was up and back and it’s tough.
“They (the umpires) get a lot right. Sometimes they get some wrong. That’s life.
“The game, as I said, I don’t think was dominated by umpiring tonight, I thought we saw a pretty good game of footy that we should be looking at the game and that’s how it should be played. Two sides going at it for a long period of time and one side got out the winner.”
Umpiring is no laughing matter.
Hardwick’s dig comes a week after Essendon coach Whingeing Worsfold bleated repeatedly about the Bombers’ free-kick differential, following a loss to Collingwood.
Richmond did not lose by two points because of any umpiring decisions.
For most of the night, GWS were the more desperate side. The Tigers lost because they kicked poorly for goal and did not take their opportunities.
They stay on top of the ladder, but only on percentage. After seeming to have consecutive premiership flags in the bag this far from home, maybe the Tigers are human and vulnerable after all.
Or was their fourth loss of the season — all away from their happy-hunting ground at the MCG — just a wake-up call with six rounds of the season to play?
After all, the Giants did have their measure last year at the same venue when Jeremy Cameron kicked the winner inside the final minute after Richmond squandered too many opportunities, just as they did on Saturday night.
In Richmond’s first defeat this year in a game decided by less than 10 points, they had more inside-50s than GWS and more scoring shots, including 11 of the last 15.
Instead of ducking exercises at training, perhaps some goalkicking practice wouldn’t go astray at Punt Road this week.
Richmond’s 10.17 (77) was the first time they have kicked more points than goals since their upset loss to Port Adelaide, when they kicked 8.10 (58) in round 12.
Forwards Jason Castagna and Shai Bolton had opportunities to be heroes in the final minutes, but Castagna kicked a point and Bolton’s set shot sprayed wide and right to go out of bounds on the full.
The normally reliable Castagna kicked five points and one out on the full. In the first 13 rounds of the season he had booted a healthy 19.12, but in three games since he hasn’t kicked a goal, but has totalled seven behinds.
He’ll eventually get it right and it could be as early as Friday night against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Now who is a joke “venom” Denham?
Seriously how anyone could claim Georgie boy is anything more reliable than a long shot simply hasn’t watched enough of our football or bothered to review his stats
-
I’m one of Georgie’s biggest fans but his goal kicking is far from reliable.
If it was he would be one of the best small forwards in the game. He gives us a contest in the air that most small forwards cannot, which helps us play with only Jack as our key marking forward and all our small/medium forwards to create the pressure.
He is very consistent with all he does and is just as important as our other 2 small forwards.
None of which rack up big numbers but all do their job most weeks.
Bolton showed on Saturday night he isn’t willing to do the important bits first before trying to get a kick. I hope Stengle can this week.
-
In hunting and pressing the Tigers, the Giants showed that Richmond's 1-5 forward set up can be made a weak point if you can squeeze the small forwards. Without another key target the Tigers attack was suspect, and easily restricted. Richmond had a lot of forward entries, but weren't efficient with the way they attacked the goal. That wouldn’t be said of course if Jason Castagna had kicked straight, but it still felt as though the Giants' pressure prevented Richmond's ability to attack.
