Had to laugh at Bruce last Friday night when towards the end of the Essendon vs St Kilda game he said the Bombers would go in as favourites against us if this game was at Etihad :facepalm :stupid :lol.
-
even devon smith had something to say about us beating beatable.
are these guys dumb as stuff, or maybe i am.
isnt anyone beatable as is proven over 100 years.
i hope we smash them
-
Short memories to what occurred in the Dreamtime game
-
They handball too much, that plays right into our hands.
-
They might run with us for a time, but like most that try and handle it we eventually should land a few crushing blows and pull away.
We should take this one seriously though, they’re actually a decent team and we could use the match practise coming into the finals. I don’t see the dogs as giving us too much trouble in the final round.
-
From the outside looking in during previous years I used to wonder why teams locked in to top two didn’t start cotton wooling their players. Now we’re there ourselves I get it. Form isn’t a switch and we need to start the dress rehearsals for next month. Players returning from injury need to play into form and others are fighting for their spot. No quarter, sorry Essendon.
-
Ess have nothing to lose and are up and about. Will be a good contest IMHO
-
this is the best thing for our club leading into september, because dead rubbers like GC and dogs doesnt give us a good lead in to finals.
a 1 point win will suffice so we can hear how close they are all summer by the likes of blobbo and king
-
No
A few bone crunching tackles early should set things straight early

Not sure about your theory on dead rubbers. We played Fremantle and St Kilda in the last 2 games of 2017 and history will show it didn't do us any harm

SUMMARY
The Tiger train rolls on and into round 22 in enviable shape. On top of the ladder with breathing room to spare and boasting an almost non-existent injury list, it's sunny skies at Punt Road after they shelved their poor interstate run with a hefty away win over Gold Coast on Saturday. They were even afforded the luxury of "managing" ruckman Toby Nankervis last week with the big man carrying a minor corked quad that would have benefitted from a rest. For the Bombers, a finals appearance is possible when it comes to crunching the numbers but they need plenty of things to go their way. A loss to the Tigers will end the dream despite their recent form that has seen them win seven of their last nine games. Captain Dyson Heppell will line up for his 150th AFL game in a game the Bombers will hope keeps their season alive.
WHERE AND WHEN: the MCG, Friday, August 17, 7.50pm AEST
LAST FIVE MEETINGS
R11, 2018, Richmond 17.12 (114) d Essendon 6.7 (43) at the MCG
R10, 2017, Richmond 11.15 (81) d Essendon 10.6 (66) at the MCG
R17, 2016, Richmond 16.6 (102) d Essendon 11.17 (83) at the MCG
R10, 2016, Richmond 16.9 (105) d Essendon 10.7 (67) at the MCG
R22, 2015, Richmond 10.14 (74) d Essendon 7.5 (47) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Tigers led by four goals at the first change back in round 11 but it was after half-time they really put the Bombers to the sword with eight goals to two after the main break to win Dreamtime at the 'G by 71 points.
2. Expect some forward half heroics this week. The Tigers are ranked second in the competition for marks inside 50 this season with an average of 13.3 per game, while the Bombers are third with 12.8.
3. But, things will be tough for the Bombers in attack. The miserly Tigers are the highest ranked defensive side with an average of only 70 conceded per game, while the Bombers have given up an average of 83.
4. It's been a while since Bomber fans have sung their song at the end of a clash with the Tigers. They last beat them in round 11, 2014, having lost their last seven head-to-heads.
5. A victory for the Tigers will be the first time since 1982 they have won 17 games during the home and away season.
6. It's been quite a season for Shane Edwards. He's ranked No.1 in the competition in the midfielder/forward category, second overall at the club, and 18th from all players in the League when it comes to Schick AFL Player Ratings.
IT’S A BIG WEEK FOR…
It'll be hard for Jack Riewoldt to replicate his goalkicking feats of last week where he bagged 10 goals, but he still might have reason to celebrate booting a snag – or five. Riewoldt will go into the game on 595 goals, meaning he needs a handful to become just the fourth Tiger to reach 600.
PREDICTION: Richmond by 33 points.

Just hope they don't pull any cock suckery in their desperation and injure someone, they think they have a sniff at finals still
-
bit of CS :shh

Rest the important players. Get games into Houli and the like

Freo were coming off a belting from Sydney and started off hot.
St.Kilda had the slimmest of chances to make the finals as the game started(Essendon finished it at around qtr time from memory).
Perfect tune up to be honest. A little bit of feeling in the game..... but not really!

Bomber fans seem to be hoping that we'll go into self-preservation mode and let them win. Deluded as ever :nope.

Should read the latest posts now we're going to be missing some of our stars. Apparently Astbury is a spud and not a loss :stupid.

Bombers at the G this year - 1 win, 6 losses.
Tigers at the G this year - 12 wins, 0 losses.
Even without those players, I’ll be on the Tigers, thanks.

We're everybody else's Grand Final these days :yep.
Worsfold is excited by the challenge of facing the in-form Tigers as his side fights to keep the season alive, with victory the only option in the club’s two remaining home and away games.
“I must admit, I look forward to every game and I like the challenge every week,” Worsfold said.
“But when you’re playing the team that are the reigning premiers and have followed on with that brilliant season last year with another great season, it really opens up for us a chance to have a look at where we sit against a top-line team and take our best footy out there against them.”
http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2018-08-16/team-selection-rd-22
-
How's everybody feeling about this game now ??
Times are good when you can start resting players because the result is irrelevant.
I still want to win with the B team though ...like the time we beat them in wangaratta a few years ago.
-
We'll lose.
They'll start super hot, we'll peg it back mostly but they'll be slightly on top for most of the game and then kick away in the third. The fourth will be a boring 3 or 4 goal affair.
THEN we'll have to endure a summer long 'Essendon will be 2019 premiers' singsong from all and sundry.
Then they'll win 3 of the first 9 next season and they'll be cooked and it'll be just as sweet as it was this year :rollin
-
I'm still confident to be honest alot of the boys come in a fighting for a place in our bet 22 never know so still have to perform.I just can't wait for the media if we loose bombers flag favourites and tigers in strife. :gotigers.
-
I don’t want to lose and let other teams think that the MCG is no longer a fortress for us. Especially on the eve of the finals.
-
Matthew Lloyd will be more unsufferable than he normally is
-
Barrett tipping against us again ::).
If ... Fantasia was fit ...
then ... the Bombers would've been certainties against the Tigers. We're still tipping them anyway.

Interesting game tonight in that we have 4-5 players who are playing to stay in the side come finals time. You'd expect them to be very switched on tonight.
Go Tiger's
-
FINAL INTERCHANGES
Richmond: Sam Lloyd, Reece Conca, Nathan Broad, Liam Baker
Essendon: Darcy Parish, Kyle Langford, Aaron Francis, Matt Guelfi

Rance is captain tonight. Even did the Cotch 'handslap' at the entry of the race as the team ran out.
-
George we're wearing Y&B.
-
Sloppy so far.
Two great marks by Grimesy.
-
Heppell allowed to hold onto the ball forever in the tackle = no free.
Bombers goal from the resulting stoppage.
0 - 7
-
Out of the centre and Macca marks 45 out 45 degree angle. Doesn't make the distance :P.
We get it back via Grigg. Goes long and it's a ball-up 30 out. Clearing Essendon kick is marked by Floss 60 out.
Beautiful pass by Floss onto Jack's chest 30 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Ess 1.1-7
-
Soft free to them gifts them a goal.
6 - 13
-
We go long, ball bounces 30 out and Caddy gathers and snaps from the boundary :gotigers
Rich 2.0-12
Ess 2.1-13
-
Ellis long to the hot spot. That's better Georgie. Spins and snaps a goal :gotigers.
Rich 3.0-18
Ess 2.1-13
-
Great stuff Grimes at HB. Saves a goal and turns defence into attack.
Houli to Sheds 60 out. Clever kick across to Dusty on the lead to the fat side. Dusty nails it from 40.
Rich 4.0-24
Ess 2.1-13
-
We did very well to get it out of defence but Rioli is caught on the wing by Saad. Turnover. Fortunately, Stringer misses a gettable shot.
24 - 14
-
Wrong way Caddy as we had runners on the outside. Luckily Georgie is tackled high 45 out. Gives off to Short but he sprays it OOTF :P.
The Essendon kick is straight to Ellis but he then kicks it straight back to the Bomber defenders.
We get it back. Dusty across to Short but his kick deep is to the Bomber defender in the middle of 3 Tigers.
Essendon go forward but Grimes is able to touch the ball before it goes through.
24 - 15
1 min to go.
-
No HTB tonight against Essendon ::).
Quarter time
Richmond 4.0-24
Essendon 2.3-15
Goals: Riewoldt, Castagna, Caddy, Martin.
-
Controlled the quarter for most of it in general play after the first 5-10 mins and had repeat entries inside F50. Just sloppy/overpossessing when we don't need to forward of centre.
-
ball chucking mother idiot!!!
-
Ball bouncing and Rance is caught and Essendon get the first of the 2nd qtr.
21 - 24
-
Conca twice with good kicks and Sheds marks 50 out. Misses left.
25 - 21
-
Need to keep it simple not overuse of footy.Gez Rance has been sloppy at times last month.
-
What a joke. Free kick for HTB after free kick for HTB not paid. Then Razor Ray gifts one against Dusty to Hurley when both were holding ::).
-
We are going to have several out next week with sore bung holes. Umps are fingering our freckles like a catholic school teacher!
-
The party tricks aren't coming off.
Rushed point to us.
26 - 21
-
Flukey kick out of traffic goes through for them.
26 - 27
-
Just bombing it to Jack too much and missing chances. Need to lower the eyes.
29 - 27
-
Jacks getting pack raped
-
Inside 50s: 30 - 18 but we're wasting them.
Set shot point to Essendon.
29 - 28
3 mins to go.
-
Jacks getting pack raped
If Jack's outnumbered 3-1 then there must be other Tigers free. Don't kick it to him and go for other options.
Hard running by Houli. Baker chips it high to him in the pocket. Misses.
30 - 28
-
Dusty out of the stoppage on the wing. To Lloyd to Jack 45 out.
Goes wide and short and Caddy marks by the point post. Goal! :gotigers
Right before half-time too. Our first of the qtr.
Rich 5.6-36
Ess 4.4-28
-
Half-time
Richmond 4.0 5.6-36
Essendon 2.3 4.4-28
Goals: Caddy 2, Riewoldt, Castagna, Martin.
Top disposals:
B.Ellis 16
Dusty 14
Short 12
-
Jack is doing a Goddard and abusing his team mates
-
yeah saw that, needs to calm the hell down. He is frustrated but shouldn't take it out on the others.
-
Like someone said if Jack getting double teamed some players must be free need to look up and use the right option.
-
Lucky we are playing a crap side like Essendon tonight. Defensively we're doing okay holding Essendon up thanks to our structure but with the ball we've been very sloppy tonight and lazily bombing it high inside 50 too often. Hope Dimma gave them a serve at half-time.
-
Playing one down with Grigg in the centre playing shadowing Stringer....
-
Dusty :gotigers
Rich 6.6-42
Ess 4.4-28
And that;s why Dea is no longer a Tiger.
-
What do we have to do tonight to get a HTB free?
-

I agree need to slow it down a bit and look up and take the right option. The changes have also disrupted that to be fair.
-
Rioli misses.
43 - 28
Dusty should just go for goal there.
-
Garth robbed. Ummm ump .... if you punch the ball and then catch it it's a mark! ::)
Point to Essendon.
43 - 29
-
Another attack from an intercept mark. Dusty to Grigg who goes long and Caddy marks 20 out :gotigers.
Rich 7.7-49
Ess 4.5-29
-
Go Caddy :clapping
-
Who need a second tall forward?
-
Saad run down at our HF. Macca plays on to Houli who goes long and Caddy with the speckie pack mark 25 out :clapping.
Caddy kicks his 4th :gotigers
Rich 8.7-55
Ess 4.5-29
-
Grrrr! They get one back straight away.
55 - 35
-
Playing one down with Grigg in the centre playing shadowing Stringer....
Exhibit A right then :P.
-
Floss intercepts 20 out D50 and we go coast to coast. Dusty lace out to Jack on the lead 30 out. Kicking short again and it just makes a point.
56 - 35
-
Grigg and Garth head collision in the centre of the ground (Garth with a cut above the right eye).
That allowed Essendon to go forward and goal.
56 - 41
-
Short goes long and Dusty too strong for Dea 30 out. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 9.8-62
Ess 6.5-41
-
Baker finally gets his goal at AFL level :gotigers.
Rich 10.8-68
Ess 6.5-41
-
Another soft free to gift the Bombers a set shot and goal ::) :banghead.
68 - 47
9 secs to go to :banghead.
Got killed in the centre clearances in the last 10 mins.
-
3/4 time
Richmond 4.0 5.6 10.8-68
Essendon 2.3 4.4 7.5-47
Goals: Caddy 4, Martin 3, Riewoldt, Castagna, Baker
-
Frees are in line with the current theme....don't give Tigers any.
-
Those centre clearances never seem to change.
-
Another soft free to gift the Bombers a set shot and goal ::) :banghead.
68 - 47
9 secs to go to :banghead.
Got killed in the centre clearances in the last 10 mins.
Jack would be held like that 9 out of every 10 marking contests but very rarely gets a free. Why dont they make the umpiring fair to both teams and just give the opposition a 4 goal head start, at least we know what we are up against.
-
So you can push Nank in the back as he's going up for the ruck? ::)
-

I think we're the only top side that where the umps feel sorry for the opposition and give them charity frees.
-
Long and Jack leaps up to mark 20 out (clever blocking of space by Caddy).
Goal! :gotigers
Rich 11.8-74
Ess 7.5-47
-
Ripped Essendon open like a can opener there.
Grigg does a 360 to Macca. Nice kick to Lloyd who finds Sheds 45 out. Dusty is all alone 20 out and runs in and slams it home :gotigers
Rich 12.8-80
Ess 7.5-47
-
Good defensive pressure initially but we couldn't get it out of there and they get a goal.
80 - 53
-
Another charity free to them ::).
Tackled over the line and the ump says he should have made an attempt :huh. What a idiot that ump is :lol.
Baddeley misses everything anyway :lol.
80 - 53
-
Goal to them :banghead
80 - 59
-
No letting them in tigers put the foot down. :gotigers
-
Who does Bruce barrack for... anyone playing Richmond?
-
Graham legged no free ::).
We play on and Caddy marks 45 out. Falls short and Essendon mark on the line.
-
Free kicks
11 - 23
::)
-
Hooker misses from 20 out :lol
80 - 60
-
Conca to jack who cleverly in traffic chips to Rioli 40 out on the boundary. Misses.
81 - 60
-
What a great bump by Lloyd on Baddeley. Goalsaver.
-
Free kicks
11 - 25
::)
-
Pressure tigers.
-
Terrible Tigers.
Defensive throw-in and Bellchambers simply grabbed it and kicked a goal :banghead.
81 - 66
4 mins to go.
-
Another soft free kick in front of the sticks to Essendon ::).
81 - 72
2:30 to go.
-
Lloyd ridden in the back = no free.
-
Hooker kicked 3 in last ?.
-
Point to them
81 - 73
1:23 to go.
-
Noooooo
-
OMG we got a free :o. Jack on the wing.
48 secs to go.
-
Rioli runs down Saad. That;s the sealer :clapping
10 secs to go.
-
Siren! :gotigers
Rioli torp mongrel falls short and no score. Doesn't matter we win :gotigers
81 - 73
Up yours Essendon. Even the umps couldn't get you over the line >:(.
Minor Premiers! :gotigers
-
So what was the frees difference at the end ? :banghead.
-
So what was the frees difference at the end ? :banghead.
15 to 27
-
So what was the frees difference at the end ? :banghead.
15 to 27
:banghead
-
Great win tonight with quality out. The commentary by Bruce and co was so biased towards the Bombers it was sickening :thumbsdown
-
Final Score
Richmond 4.0 5.6 10.8 12.9-81
Essendon 2.3 4.4 7.5 11.7-73
Goals: Caddy 4, Martin 4, Riewoldt 2, Castagna, Baker.
-
Conca....very good :shh
-
Enough is enough the Tigers admin need to do something about the umpire bias
-
So broad gets dragged over the goal line, if deliberate a joke, and if holding the ball youve got to be joking
-
So broad gets dragged over the goal line, if deliberate a joke, and if holding the ball youve got to be joking
Bummer players swung around 720 degrees drop the ball and its play on, like Dimma said its not so much the frees that get paid but the ones that dont. Clearly two different interpretations of HTB subject to the colour of the team shirt.
-
Conca....completely shyte :shh
e.f.a :shh :shh
-
Bomber fans taking last night's season ending reality check hard lol.

So what was the frees difference at the end ? :banghead.
15 to 27
And that’s including 3 or 4 easy ones they had to pay us at the end, ie Riolis chance down HTB on Saad.
-
Some concerns.
Lost contested.
Lost clearances.
Lost another last quarter.
Efficiency in F50 not good.
Need to fix these are at least breakeven.
we haven’t been as dominate.
Is it because we are managing players?
Mentally thinking of the QF?
-
Cruising, keep injuries down. They played high risk high reward and we did what we needed to without some better players in.

The last quarters bit of a worry last couple of games.Agree with clearances and contested position have been loosing that all year even at our best need to get better.
Maybe bigger training load last month and a eye on the finals to.At times yesterday we needed to look up more and not just hit Jack in our 50 was getting triple teamed, but hit other options.
-
Picking Stengle would've gone a long way to fixing the quality of our forward entries..... :shh

Agree
-
So broad gets draggesed over the goal line, if deliberate a joke, and if holding the ball youve got to be joking
Was the correct decision, it was holiding the ball
He took the tackler on, made absolutely no attempt to dispose of it and then tried for a rugby try.
Right decision by the umpire, dumb footy by Broad
-
No it wasn't. What bollocks. If it had happened on the boundary, no way Little Mr. Look at Me awards a free. :shh
-
You don't have to dispose of the ball when the ball crosses the goal line :shh
-
:shh :shh

Actually he would, would have called deliberate or holding the ball
Which again would be the right call.
If it was a Bu,bling player who did what Briad did, everyome would be screaming it should have been a free
The umps got a lot wrong on Friday night but that one they got very right. Said it on the night happened right in front of us, right decision

Don’t agree at all WP.
And neither did Wayne Carey on the broadcast.
When the ball crosses the line, it’s dead and if it’s not a free kick for running it through, than it’s a point as you are allowed to gather the footy, get tackled and basically fall across the line.
That’s a point all day long imo.

You don't have to dispose of the ball when the ball crosses the goal line :shh
Ummm you nnned to make sort of effort when you've taken 7 steps to get to the goal line
He didn't take 7 steps :shh
He tried to make it look as though he was dodging the tackler, he was then tackled on an angle where the Essendon player threw him over the line. :shh Had the goal line not been there...holding the ball. But it was, so it's a point every day of the week unless it's Razor Ray umpiring... :shh :shh

No it wasn't. What bollocks. If it had happened on the boundary, no way Little Mr. Look at Me awards a free. :shh

Absolutely agree it was a point and an error from Ray.

Absolutelystuffingright happens all the time and go figure the first time it’s called like that is against Richmond

Some concerns.
Lost contested.
Lost clearances.
Lost another last quarter.
Efficiency in F50 not good.
Need to fix these are at least breakeven.
we haven’t been as dominate.
Is it because we are managing players?
Mentally thinking of the QF?
We dominated them in the 2nd quarter and kicked 1.6 to their 2.1 and their two goals were snaps from the contest. We should have been 40/50 points up at three quarter time. Have a look at the quarter time stats for the amount of play and possessions and inside 50 count for that quarter.
A similar thing happened against Geelong

Bad kicking is bad football..... :shh
