Title: Membership 2019 - The Hunt Continues

There's been alot of comments on Twitter about changes the Club is making to 2019 membership packages

One of the biggest chamges is people with reserved seats in level 2 of the Southern Stand (premiership circle) have been told they are getting moved to the Olympics stand. Some people have had those seats since the stand was built = over 20 odd years. No consulation just a letter to say your moving. Club is holding an info night on Thursday this week at 5.30pm (pathetic time but that's another issue). Throw in a price increase and....

Fair to say there is some very unhappy people out there

I got a letter today about changes to my package  :-\ waiting to get more detail on all my questions

I believe there's also been some changes to 3121 and Richmond Executive

Anyone else impacted or have a view

Really interested in people's thoughts / views

I am an RE coterie member and have been told they are moving us to the Southern Stand next year. One of the main reasons I upgraded is to sit in the Olympic Stand as close to the wing as possible. I was not consulted which is my main gripe but they claim they did extensive research…...

As you know Doc I'm an IS coterie member.

IS is being completely rebranded,  new name and no longer called a coterie. Now deemed a premium membership category. As I said have a number of questions I need clarification on but from what ive read i just feel a bit hollow about to be honest. Want to give the club the benefit of the doubt but.....

I expected changes but a couple of them I didn't expect at all.

It's made the Herald-Sun:

Tigers fans’ uproar over reserved MCG seating

RICHMOND has riled some of its most loyal fans by making contentious changes to seating at the MCG.

Tiger faithful who have stuck with Richmond through thick and thin are set to lose vast numbers of reserved seats at the Punt Rd end in favour of cashed-up coterie groups.

Diehard fans say they are paying the price of premiership success as the club struggles with the weight of supporters climbing on the bandwagon.

Little more than 28 years after their “Save Our Skins” campaign to rescue the club, Richmond supporters have started a “Save Our Seats” protest to convince the board to keep supporter bays together.

The club has called a fan forum tonight to smooth tensions, but fans on Tuesday delivered a petition with about 800 names against shrinking the number of reserved seat bays. Richmond member Joe Garra has had four seats for his family next to friends for 13 years and accused the club of making a “unilateral decision to evict us”.

“They’re basically taking seats off some of the most passionate and dedicated fans and giving them to people prepared to pay more,” he said.

A letter sent to members said Richmond’s reserved seats were “at capacity” with “no further room to grow”. Several bays will become “flexible seating bays”, or first-in, first-served for members.

Members are also angry the club has asked them to pay an extra $6 to reserve a ticket in a 186-seat bay it will make available a week before matches.

“They’re happy having us there for the past 20 years, but not now,” Dr Garra said. “Everyone is furious.”

Richmond consumer business general manager Dino Imbriano confirmed 1613 seats across nine bays would be affected, which had been forced by “ability to sell memberships and maximise revenue”.

He said changes were needed, with up to 700 members not showing up at some matches while legions of fans wanted to witness the action.

“Its very emotive and the last thing we want to do is upset fans, but we need to continue to grow and strong and bold has been part of our brand positioning,” he said. “Sometimes we need to make changes to try to accommodate everyone.”

But in a letter to president Peggy O’Neal and CEO Brendon Gale, Dr Garra said: “Instead of being excited about the forthcoming finals series we have been shattered that our loyalty over many dark years has been totally ignored.”

I would lose my poo if they did it to me, like BIG TIME!
Could of been done a lot better than just F you bad luck im sure.

Club is holding an info night on Thursday this week at 5.30pm (pathetic time but that's another issue).

Look like I got the night wrong

It was either last night or it's tonight  ;D

Regarding the research - there was a very a survey that was sent out to 15k members randomly selected via the research /focus group hired by the club to run the survey

I was one person who got invited" to do it.

It was long, very long, took over 30 minutes (close to 45 minutes) to complete and TBH was difficult to follow at times. It put up numerous different scenarios on each category; which at times felt like they were just regurgitating the same question multiple times. After I completed it I was worried that changes were afoot that weren't going to appease the masses.

And here we are  :'(

Depends where your seats are Cub.

Level 2 Southern stand are the effected bays, no others at this stage

It’s interesting
As I am 3121 member x 4
And reserved seat holder in N6 x 4
3121 is being moved around to absorb bays up to N6
My situation is that I save $400 x 4 as I will just sit in 3121 area in 2019. N7 to N13
The disgusting thing about this is that the reserved seats / areas from N1 to N6 have increased approx 33%
So this is purely a cash grab

Im M14 ground level right on the fence, love being on the fence and we have been there close to 20 years im guessing, had the seats when it was the old southern stand and got them back once the new stand was finished.

I had seats in N7 for over 20 years. Kept them even when I upgraded to IS as the seats meant so much to me because one of them was Ma Powell's. For 7 season the club got the $ for those seats even though I wasn't using them. And on the odd times i did I was always asking people 3121 members to move  ;D

After the GF last year I felt the time was right to give them up. But if I still had them I'd be shattered by what they are doing.

Thing they don't seem to understand is that for people who have had the seats forever (read 20+ years) it about more than the seats, it's about the footy friendships made, the unique bonds formed.... it just not about the seats

It’s all about money
Don’t get me started about it
It’s like the T Shirts they were selling at the Sunday  after the GF at Punt Rd
Only to see them at the Royal Melbourne Show on the Monday for $6.00 cheaper
$45 one day
$38.95 the next
🤔

If you go to Serious Richmond supporters Facebook page , there is a live feed there
Very heated at times
Think the club is wrong
They basically want to sell 1800 seats when they only have 1000
As they are counting on only 1000 turning up
They had Neil Balme there , why ? It’s not a footy matter , but he gave a spiel at the finish to deflect and calm the masses
Nothing we don’t already know about the team
Title: Re: Membership 2019
Post by: Jackstar is back!!! on August 22, 2018, 09:24:10 PM
My thoughts on tonight . I posted on a website and copied here . I listened to your take on 3121 Membership which I have 4 and I also have 4 reserved seats in N section which I prefer to sit in
So I have no vested interest in tonight as I will save $1600 a year and I will sit in 3121 next year
But your thoughts about seating in 3121 is some what incorrect , why ? As there would of been at least 250 people watching the game on Saturday from the dining rooms out the back and not utilising the seats allocated in 3121 N section , so there lies a problem. There are also people like myself who sit in my reserved seats that next year will sit in 3121 section
There is also the Richmond Executive who will take one of the functions rooms thus less for 3121 to watch behind the glass
Also many statements made by the club were factually incorrect and total lies
I know people who have joined the Tiger Executive THIS year only therefore paid there way to the front . The comments from the club that they were lifetime members and had been there for a substantial period of time is totally incorrect
This will blow up big time , no matter how the club try and sugar coat it
They are basically trying to sell 1800 seats at a huge increase in previous year ( this year ) when they only have actually 1000 seats
There 55% attendance on average is madness and fought with danger
Cheers

Is this membership stuff only affecting the top tier memberships like coteries and stuff? Club hasn't emailed me in at least five years and the only time I ever receive anything in the mail is when they post me my yearly membership. I'm a common pleb with a 11 reserved + 5 GA and all I know from reading boards is that the price will increase but I can't find by how much. I probably only go to half the games now for various reasons so I'm on the fence with what to do next year. Combination of the proposed rule changes and this membership drama is strongly swinging me in one direction.

the "privileged"????

You think people who bought a reserved seat 20 years ago when the club were crap and have kept renewing those seats are somehow privileged?

Then sorry, you are dare I say it clueless on this issue.

These folks from the Southern Stand are not coterie members they are people with standard 11 or 16 game membership who like so many others buy a reserve seat with their membership.

They have been told they have to move to make way for 2 groups; one a coterie and the other a Premium membership group who have been moved to make room for the previously mentioned coterie.

They are anything but "privileged" and they have every right to peeved with how they are being treated. They've been incredibly loyal which clearly means very little

I agree with you.

But you are privileged (yourself) in comparison to anyone who can't afford your super secretive membership package or even a membership at all. Same goes for people who can afford 11 games memberships. Yes, this is not good, and it is a cash grab from the head honchos as per bloody usual. But not all Tigers can even afford to go to a single game.

We are all Tigers. So I say again, Dwayne me boy, enjoy the ride with the rest of us plebs...and let the privileged worry about this :cheers

Obviously the club belongs to everyone, rich or poor.

However, the club needs to maximise its revenue. I have no issues with that.
Title: Re: Membership 2019
Post by: sugark on August 23, 2018, 09:48:24 AM
I attended last night and must say i left somewhat confused by what the logic or intent of the club is

Benny opened his presentation speaking about football department expenditure and the correlation it has to success, the more you spend the more chance you have to succeed, the club needs to increases its revenues to remain in the upper echelon of football spending to remain a chance of sustained success.

They stated that we have 20K reserved seat holders.

What i don't get is the direct correlation to income and moving people or taking up the North Melbourne model of "floating seats"  I will say i think its a little insulting to suggest that they have been looking at this for 18 months.  No coincidence that the guy Dino who took over from Cain Liddell, came from North Melbourne, has to really question the 18 month scenario.

The sole purpose of this change is to accommodate more Richmond Executive members and possibly 3121 members, this is a dangerous move, RE members unfortunately come and go, i was one of the inaugural members, no longer am i and several others that were also inaugural members. My reason for not continuing was that i didn't enjoy the sterile nature of such a coterie and preferred my 27 year reserved seats that i maintained during my RE time.  My point here is that many of these newcomers are no guarantee of hanging around beyond a couple of years, the reserved seat holders that the club is impacting are long time members that have stayed the test of time.

My current PC membership reserved seat isn't being impacted other than being increased by $75 per year over the next 3 years, i have a choice to either pay the additional amount or move to another area at the current price.

What i don't get is why would you risk losing so many long time members for the purpose of accommodating some new RE members that history suggests the retention isn't great.

If we are to believe Benny's financial spiel at the start of the evening then why not come out and say we need to capitalise on our success and to give ourselves the best chance for sustained success we need to increase our revenues.

Why not give all current reserved seat holders the opportunity to pay $75 more per year over the next three years, regardless of their membership level, that goes for 3121, MR and PC members along with current RE members.  If the majority agree, it provides an increase in membership revenue of up to $1.5m each year for the next 3 years.  Its a lot more than another 30-50 RE members are going to provide to the club and there is no additional cost to the club.  Additional RE members provides additional costs to the club filling them full of roast lamb and red wine at each home game.

I might be looking at it in a very simplistic way but ultimately we as members have endured significant pain for a long time, if paying $7 extra per game for an 11 game membership gives us our best chance of experiencing what we experienced last year then i'm pretty sure most of the 20K would oblige.

Don't disrespect your long time members, be honest with them, don't pull the charade that Dino attempted to pull over us last night and i'd be confident that the vast majority will pay the additional to maintain their seats and continue to enjoy the ride that Peggy, Benny, Dimma and the players are taking us on.

Give it a go Benny, you might be pleasantly surprised.

The club needs to maximise it's revenues???????????????

Are we that desperate for money?

The club needs to find that happy medium where we generate revenue to be a great club without selling our soul for the almighty dollar.

Blowing off long time loyal members to cater for the bandwagon supporters who when we eventually slide down the ladder in four or years time will disappear as quick as the have popped up is poor management.

Is the club anticipating that when we slide down the ladder and the bandwagon supporters bail out that the loyal supporters will just come back and resume their seats.

May be an unpopular opinion but I tend to agree with a lot of what the club is trying to do it. Perhaps the way they're going about it is slightly less dignified and transparent that I'd prefer.

I've been a member since I could walk; if they started charging an extra hundred or more for my seat next year I think I'd just have to swallow that one.

I guess we just need to make hay while the sun shines.

We're not Melbourne, most of our supporters don't come from upper middle class backgrounds so an extra hundred or more a year isn't just pocket money to them. :shh
Lol, you think the 3121 members are struggling???

Y&B who are the high paying members who are displacing these long time loyal supporters.

Certainly not the 3 membership group.
And you don't think that there are any long time coterie members? I know people who are not on a high income that have been plunging big $ into the club for years.

How about them?

Each one of those is equivalent to 40 full die hard regular members....

And they're not all wankers....  :shh

Reading the comments here highlights to me the problem that the club has created not just right now but probably over a number of years

IMHO, this "move" and the way it has been communicated and undertaken by the club is the issue here. Members blaming members is just simply wrong.

The club have done it incredibly poorly. I spoke to a friend this morning who was there last night and they said the presentation listing the reasons for "move" put up by the club was extremely poor and in part made very little sense. After speaking to my mate I don't think the new membership manager who came from N0rt really understands the RFC. To say this or that works at Nort and then trying to implement the same thing here is farcical. Clueless and out of touch are words that spring to mind

Sadly by extension, the message has created alot of views based on perception rather than reality with members whacking other members for no other reason than because they are a coterie member or in the case of 3121 a premium membership category

Few points if I may.

1/ This view that the majority of coterie members have suddenly appeared and joined in the last few years is ..well .. to be honest crap. I know of alot of people (myself included) who have been members for ages (me it's 38 years) who started out with just a standard 11 game membership. Who have upgraded because their personal situation allows and because in most cases they wanted to help the club in the bad times. People shouldn't be whacked for that. The majority of Coterie members don't run around making demands on the club. A very small handful do but the majority simple don't.

2/ RE:
I find it really sad that so many people don't know the story behind RE. It was established back in 2005 by Miller to raise money for the club; you know when the club had very little $$$. He manage to pull together 100 people who coughed in $5000 each to establish this group. He went to long time supporters and asked them to help. When it was first set up it's seats and function room were ironically where they are being moved back to in 2019.

I actually think RE should be called the RFC Nomads because they have been moved that many times it isn't funny. Each move hasn't been born out of the RE members requesting it but because the Club has decided to move them for varying reasons. Throw in the stripping back of their benefits over time and that group hasn't been treated fantastically well by the club but gee they've stayed loyal. Despite price increases with the removal of benefits

Did they ask to be moved to the Southern Stand and demand the long term reserve seat holders be moved? No they didn't so to throw whacks their way over this is unfair. This a CLub decision not a coterie member decision..

And just so people are clear the reason RE were first moved out of bays 14 & 13 in the Southern Stand was so the Club could sell more 3121 memberships. If you want to talk revenue raising at the absolute highest level then look no further than 3121, they sold and sold, moved RE and sold some more

3/ 3121: alot of 3121 members are long termers there too, so to suggest like RE that they have all jumped on board in the last couple of years is a furphy. yes some have but so many haven't. Were they consulted about losing one of their function rooms and being moved? Again nope.

4/ The Long time Reserve seat Holders: they deserve to be upset, angry and bloody peeved. The way they have been treated in this is shambolic. Up until this season despite having Inner Sanctum m'ships I had kept the seats I had in N7 because they meant so much to me and my family. I gave them up this year because the time was right. But I know the footy friends I've meet, the bonds that have been formed from people seating together for so long. They cannot and should not be underestimated but clearly the Club doesn't understand it perhaps want to acknowledge it.

As I said when I started the thread the people sitting there have been coughing up there dough through the darkest of times to support club, maintain their footy friendships. It is about more than the seats and I don't think the Club understand that or want to understand

So the way I see it is members whacking members and pointing the fingers of blame at other members is wrong. This "move" isn't member driven, coterie driven, whinger driven

This whole thing is club driven. The issue has been caused by the club which I'd argue seem to not understand their membership base like they think they do as well as (IMV) struggling to manage servicing 100k+ members.

Just my take  :thumbsup

I like my reserved seat because it’s become my tiger institution.
They won’t be changing it, nor would they want to.....
Mutiny would abound at the club.

For those affected by having their long time seats moved, shame on you Richmond. You should’ve given those people the opportunity to pay a little more to stay put.

The club has been lauded for understanding their supporters, this seems to be the start of a change in philosophy

Hard to believe that Richmond, a club with 100,000 members, could burn their loyal supporters like this. Cashed up coteries are now the priority, with loyal fans again missing out. The club has never handled success well. An absolute disgrace.

Some blow hard from the nomads has this excellent idea because it apparently worked at the club with the least amount of support out of all the Melbourne teams and he wants to implement this great idea at the biggest club in Australia?

Prez Peggy O'Neal on the membership changes for 2019:

Q. I am frustrated by proposed changes to members’ reserved seating for 2019. I understand many who attended the recent member forum felt the same way. Please reverse this decision.

A. I understand that some members have been upset by these changes but I can assure you decisions such as these are never taken lightly. The changes were made after much consideration and analysis. Ultimately the Board and management are charged with making decisions that are in the best long-term interests of the Club and, accordingly, these changes will be implemented in 2019.

Richmond     68,115
Essendon     48,920
Carlton        33,537
Melbourne    28,633

ps. Collingwood are 6000 ahead of the same time last year according to Eddie but they won't reveal their current actual tally. So they'd be targeting 82-85k in 2019 based on their membership of 75k this year.

Tigers keen to surpass 100,000 members again

THERE'S no reason Richmond can't achieve another remarkable membership feat in 2019 and supersede the record 101,562 figure the club recorded this season, says CEO Brendon Gale.

The Tigers became the first club in AFL history to reach 100,000 paid up members this year when they roared into six figures in July.

Despite falling short this season and failing to reach the Grand Final after being the competition's pacesetters for much of the season, the Tigers are entering December with a tally of 70,206 members.

Gale said while the club wasn't "obsessed" by membership goals, it was a realistic to aim for an expanded base in 2019.

"At the end of the day, we've established a benchmark and we want to go past it again," Gale said on Monday.

"We set a historic benchmark at 100,000 and it would be great to surpass that.

"I have every hope and expectation that we do.

"We're not obsessed by goals and we really strongly believe if we can really give our members a strong sense of involvement in our footy club and make them feel really involved and communicate with them and be open and transparent with them and make them feel part of something bigger than just a football team, our members will support us and the number takes care of itself.

"That's something we've done really, really well and we'll continue to do it."

From Prez Peggy O'Neal in relation to reserved seating changes:

I am still unhappy about Level 2 reserved seat changes for Premiership Circle memberships. I want to be in the seat my family has always had – why won’t you listen to us?

Change is not always easy, but we have thoroughly considered this decision, and will proceed with the changes. We have listened and do understand some members have concerns; many were expressed very clearly at the recent members’ forum.

There are two key reasons for these changes. First, we want to provide the opportunity for other members to experience watching football from Level 2 seating. These changes give us the chance to fill the best seats, which often went unfilled according to our data. Many other clubs are taking exactly the same approach.

Secondly, this will create revenue opportunities that will further strengthen the Club financially. I think it is important to be transparent about that with our members. As we shared with supporters when we established the Fighting Tiger Fund eight years ago, financial strength enables us to invest in football and that gives us the best opportunity to succeed on-field.

It is important to note that all Premiership Club members with Level 2 reserved seats will always be accommodated in those bays. You will still be able to watch your team from the best seats.

AFL membership ladder: Tigers set to reach 100,000 once again, as Suns bottom out

By Paul Sakkal
The Age
7 December 2018 — 1:01pm

Richmond are on track to crack 100,000 members again in 2019, having reached almost 75,000 members by the first week of December.

The Tigers faithful, buoyed by the signing of former Gold Coast key forward Tom Lynch, have backed the club to rebound from their 39-point preliminary final loss to Collingwood last season.

Richmond CEO Brendan Gale told 3AW this week that having “set a historic benchmark at 100,000 ... we want to go past it again".

Gale stressed the importance of making members feel like part of “something bigger than just a football team”, insisting he was “not obsessed by goals”.

Of the other Melbourne clubs, Hawthorn (60,007), Essendon (51,011), Geelong (41,034) and Carlton (38,965) enter the Christmas period with healthy figures, while Melbourne (30,096), North Melbourne (26,921), Western Bulldogs (26,855) and St Kilda (25,500) remain in the middle band of the league tally.

Collingwood refused to disclose their membership figure, but the club expects a significant bump following their grand final appearance in 2018, having slipped slightly in membership to 75,507 from the previous year.

Traditional interstate powerhouse West Coast sit at just under 60,000 members following their  premiership year, while Fremantle have registered just under 45,000 members.

Across the border in South Australia, the Crows have already recorded 77,504 members while Port Adelaide sat at 42,723.

Adelaide’s figure, however, includes non-financial, digital-only "We Fly as One" members, a quasi-mailing list which provides no access to games and offers a 10 per cent discount on club merchandise.

In the northern states,  Sydney  had counted just shy of 30,000 members while the Giants registered 13,814.

The Brisbane Lions were just shy of 13,000 members, while Gold Coast have recorded a paltry 5894.

In 2018 the AFL achieved more than a million club members across the country for the first time in league history, an 11 per cent increase on the year prior and the 18th consecutive year of membership growth.

Thirteen clubs broke their membership records in 2018.

So they win membership tallies with trumped up figures, we win a flag. Easy decision!

Tiger Army growing to record numbers

Chris Cavanagh,
Herald Sun
8 December 2018, 3:30pm

Richmond is on track to set a membership record in 2019 as the Tiger army continues to swell.

The club on Friday hit 74,110 signed-up members for next season, significantly more than the same time last year when it took until December 23 to reach the 70,000 milestone.

The boon comes on the back of signing former Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch during the AFL’s free agency period, which has helped Richmond be installed as $5 premiership favourite with bookmaker TAB.

The Tigers finished with an AFL-record membership tally of 100,726 this year, accounting for close to a tenth of the league-wide total of 1,008,494 members.

Former Richmond commercial boss Liddle added: “If you want to look at the contrast of Richmond and Carlton…"

“Richmond with 100,000 members, if your average member nets you $100, they’ll start this year $4.5 million ahead of Carlton.

“It’s a big gap we need to fill.”

“When Brendon Gale got there (to Richmond), he mandated very quickly that they were going to put the member at the centre of that club and they are reaping the rewards of that right now,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“It is a good case study for Carlton.

“In actual fact, Carlton’s supporter base - and this is based on AFL data - is actually about 25% bigger than Richmond’s.

“So that again just highlights what a great job Richmond have been able to do but it highlights the massive opportunity available to Carlton.

REASONS TO BUY: Why not join the biggest football club in the land? Hot off the heels of its first premiership in 37 years, Richmond became the first club to break the magical 100,000-member mark in 2018. A highly successful season and minor premiership ended in disappointment with a preliminary final loss to Collingwood, and the Tigers will have had all summer to rue missed opportunities. There have been minimal changes at Punt Road, but the addition of free agent Tom Lynch – one of the power forwards of the competition – lining up alongside 2018 Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt means the infamous "yellow and black" cry should be heard loud and clear in 2019. – Sarah Black

Has Adelaide “fudged" their membership numbers?

By Kane Cornes
SEN
15 Jan 2019

Who is the biggest AFL club in the land? It’s always cause for hot debate.

When former Sydney CEO Andrew Ireland joined SEN SA Breakfast last week, he boldly declared that the Swans were the most popular AFL club in Australia.

He claimed the Swans had 1.3 million fans - 500,000 more than the second biggest AFL club, Collingwood.

An article in The Age newspaper last week stated that Richmond had already surpassed 75,000 members this year and are well on their way to smashing through the historic 100,000 membership milestone.

Other Melbourne clubs, Hawthorn (60,007), Essendon (51,011), Geelong (41,034) and Carlton (38,965) enter the new year with healthy figures, while Melbourne (30,096), North Melbourne (26,921), the Western Bulldogs (26,855) and St Kilda (25,500) remain in the middle band of the league membership tally.

Reigning premiers and West Australian power house, the Eagles, are already at 60,000 members, while 45,000 Docker members have already signed up to the struggling Perth rival.

Let’s now look to our South Australian clubs where the figures get really interesting.

According to The Age article, Port Adelaide sit just under 43,000 members. That’s of January 7th, 2019.

The Crows, in figures released to The Age, have 77,500 giving them the biggest membership base in the competition to this point in January.

The biggest club. Surprising isn’t it?

Well that’s because they have fudged the numbers.

In a clear ploy to attract the sponsorship and corporate dollar as well as a strategic move to diminish Port Adelaide’s presence in the South Australian market, they have inexcusably included NON Financial “digital only” We Fly As One members.

These people don’t have to attend any games, or invest any money into the club to be included in these figures. The only benefit to them is a whopping 10% discount at the Crows merchandise store and they are included on the club’s bulk email list.

Some of you would say it’s just a number, who cares? What’s the big deal?

But supporters, sponsors and the football public actually believe this fairy-tale that the Crows are the biggest club in Australia and…. worse still…. almost DOUBLE the size of rival Port Adelaide in terms of fan base.

Let’s not forget that in April 2018, Adelaide revealed that its membership based had soared to just under 83,000. It was only later in the year, and after the AFL had actually cleaned up the data, that we realised Adelaide’s legitimate figure was in fact 64,000.

Of course the Official membership numbers will be released by the AFL later this year, and those numbers are impossible to fudge, but by that point the ship would have sailed.

Adelaide please, stop misleading us all.

Hi Everyone,

Havent been on in a fair while but been reading. This year has been trying for me membership wise. Im on the rollover or prepay plan
or whatever they call it, paid my dues back in November I think with everybody else, still have no membership card or anything. Its been
shocking the service this year. Contacted the club they said they sent out 2nd membership pack, that didn't arrive either. So either they
are taking the mickey or someone is pinching our mail. Anyway I hope everyone had a great Christmas, really looking to 2019 and I think we will win the flag. The membership seems to be trekking along nicely too.

Cheers

I’ve received 3 of my 5 memberships but not the other 2 (they have me cards that don’t have the barcodes  - I don’t know what they’re even supposed to do). Rang them, got the cards, then got them again 2 weeks later.
The “system “ is a joke

Has the mailhouse/distribution been altered or expanded in any way in recent years since our membership numbers have exploded? Doesn't sound like it. Ramps and WP's poor experiences seem quite common this year.

ps. Great to hear from you, Ramps  :cheers.

Does the club still handle its own memberships? I figure we still sell them, I mean the production of cards and the mail out.

After my experiences with merchandise after the 2017 flag, and finding out that it was an AFL warehouse contractor that was sending the stuff to me, I wonder whether that might be the issue here. It would make business sense that the AFL try to economise this type of function for clubs.

Regardless, pretty damn amateurish.

Club sell them, do the runs re the cards, but the sending out and putting together what goes where is done by 3PL

My understanding is it isnt the same mob who do the merch.

The Hunt Continues for Richmond in 2019, with the Club launching its membership campaign on Monday.

The 2019 campaign, branded ‘The Hunt Continues’ focuses on the Club’s determination to succeed both on and off the field.

The campaign is brought to life with a video piece sharing the story of the Tigers’ journey in 2018 – an exciting season of football that saw the senior team finish top of the AFL ladder, and become the first Club in VFL/AFL history to reach 100,000 members.

Falling short of a grand final berth last season, the Club is excited to continue to hunt in 2019, encouraging its 100,000 members to be part of the experience again.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said he can’t wait to see the Tiger Army in season 2019.

“Our members and supporters continue to astound me,” Gale said.

“We love the passion and loyalty of the mighty Tiger Army, and when they turn up to our games and support our Club, they’re a force and we love it.

“Connection to our members is more important than any membership tally, and we’ll continue to invest and find new ways to engage and share our journey with them.

“There are plenty of new faces at the Club following the trade and draft period and that brings a real energy to pre-season.

“We have 17 home-and-away games in Melbourne this season – 13 of those at the MCG, including some of the biggest fixtures on the AFL calendar - and of course we enter into the second season of our VFLW team, which is laying an important foundation for the introduction of our AFLW team in 2020. There is a lot to look forward to this season.”

Are we a genuine chance to reach 100,000 members again? It would be a great thing for the Club to go past that milestone for a second year.

That is most certainly our ambition. We recently launched our 2019 membership campaign The Hunt Continues and it has been very well received. Our membership tally has just ticked through 81,000 so we are well placed to again reach the 100,000 mark. The passion and loyalty of our supporter base continues to amaze all of us. If you haven't renewed your membership, do so now!

Last year was a home game and a potential sell out with the unfurling of the flag.  I wonder how many signed up earlier to get into the member's pre sale?

Also the club should now considerdoing work in a secondary region. Our membership grew exponentially with the work of the demographers but growing out in the outer east now may be more difficult.

Im not sure Craigieburn is the answer but the club needs to figure out how it gets from 100,000 members to say 135,000 members.

Cardinia ie the beaconsfield area I already mentioned. I think its going to be more difficult to grow now because webe basically taken all the low hanging fruit. Im not quite sure Albury Wodonga is a growth area for us. We need to attack another area of metropolitan Melbourne. We made an innitial foray on Craigieburn maybe we should invest there again.

We must be around the 100k mark given the Club hasn't posted any updates for a few days. Possibly waiting for Saturday night to announce it on the TV coverage. Or waiting for tonight to stick it up the Pies  ;D.

Cardinia is still growing rapidly. The urbanisation of the south-east over the past 5-10 years has been and still is huge. Just look at all the pollies flocking there at the recent state and now federal election in what use to be safe rural heartland that has now become marginal outer suburbia.

https://twitter.com/Richmond_FC/status/1124078613416906752
Should be just the Mens that's counted  :scream

So you're suggesting (sarcastically or not) that the 1000 people who paid for a membership that actually gives access to 3 AFL games not AFLW games but MEN'S games should be excluded from our tally? Righteo then

The only "benefits" regarding women's footy for the member is that it gives you access to a couple of functions and entry to VFLW games and you're given a title of Foundation Member with the club using the funds for the women's program.

Further to that you obviously don't realise that a majority of those 1000 are people like me who already had a membership and then bought this as an add on to support the Club (remember we are 1 club). So your suggestion is I shouldnt be included or deemed a member   :banghead

And I suppose the extra $100k + in dollars it's generated for the club should not be counted in the club's revenue either

We're still No.1 in the League and the only club once again to have over 100k members. Although, the gap to second has halved since last year (Eagles on 90k). We've had an increase in membership of 2.6% this year.

Got to hand it to Cain Liddle turning around the blues memberships as from memory they struggled and took ages to break 50k. He obviously took some Richmond strategies with him.
