Only 100 days to go to the season opener :gotigers.
-
Less than two months out from a pivotal 2019 campaign that starts with an imposing round-one clash with Richmond, almost half of the players Bolton would realistically consider selecting in Carlton's strongest side are part of an extensive injury list.

Only one month (4 weeks) to go :gotigers.

A champion team would bury Carlton but the AFL would frown on a 100 point thrashing in the opening game
Watch us give them an honorable loss.
I hope I am wrong.

Why we should get excited about Round 1
SAM LANDSBERGER,
Herald Sun
25 Feb 2019
With the footy officially back in less than four weeks, SAM LANDSBERGER analyses what promises to be a blockbuster opening round.
CARLTON v RICHMOND
MCG, Thursday, March 21 7.20pm
Sam Walsh is certain to make his debut next to a match-up for the ages — Dustin Martin against Patrick Cripps. That clash will be worth the price of admission alone. Tom Lynch won’t step out during the pre-season but could still play in Round 1 if he shakes off knee soreness.
How will Walsh handle 80,000 watching him under the MCG’s bright lights? Are Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay ready to take the next step? And Riewoldt feared he might have “created a monster” by isolating the 195cm Cripps at full-forward in AFLX. Will the Blues be tempted to roll their skipper forward?
…ONE TO WATCH: How long will it take for Brendon Bolton to mention the “green shoots” in his post-match press conference?
TAB ODDS: Carlton $6.50, Richmond $1.12

Cripps, Dusty primed for epic showdown
JON RALPH,
Herald Sun
February 25, 2019
Alex Rance has tipped an explosive Round 1 match-up between Dustin Martin and Patrick Cripps after witnessing the Carlton star’s heroics up close on Friday night.
Richmond goes into the MCG clash in 24 days hoping to win its seventh straight Round 1 clash against the Blues.
But a Carlton side with as many as six new faces will also feature the brilliant Cripps, who amassed 36 possessions, 25 contested possessions and nine clearances in Round 1 last year.
Tiger Jack Riewoldt joked he had “created a monster” when pushing Cripps forward in his side’s AFLX tournament victory, as the 195cm onballer led all scorers.
But Rance can’t wait for the mouth-watering midfield clash between two of the most ferocious ball-winners in the AFL as the league’s new 6-6-6 rule adds intensity to centre bounces.
“Watching and running into ‘Cripper’ a few times (on Friday night), I love that match-up,” Rance said.
“He is scary good, Dusty. I wish I had half the talent he had. It’s two rhinos going at it, smashing horns.”
Martin had just six kicks in Richmond’s preliminary final loss last year, his lowest output in his past 117 games, but he is in sparkling touch this pre-season.
The Tigers say Martin is brimming with motivation and stepping up his leadership in his 10th season.
“He’s not the type to be dwelling on too much. He knows he is a star,” full-back Rance said.
“You don’t win Brownlows and premierships off the back of being an also-(ran), so he knows what he brings,” Rance said.
Richmond’s star recruit Tom Lynch will be touch and go for Round 1.
But Rance said strong-bodied inside midfielder Jack Ross was a chance to make his debut after being taken at pick 43 last year.
“Jack Ross is a really neat player. He could be around the mark,’’ he said.
Richmond has been able to bank a Round 1 win for the past six seasons. But last year the Blues jumped the then premier and led 5.0 to a point after 11 minutes before being pegged back.
Rance has watched Carlton’s list build with interest, aware that Mitch McGovern’s recruitment adds another dynamic to its forward line after Charlie Curnow kicked five Round 1 goals last year.
“Time will tell with (McGovern, Curnow and Harry McKay), knowing when to go and when to lengthen the ground and when to hitup,” Rance said.
“Last year we saw equalisation is starting to work. Brisbane are coming up and challenging, and Carlton will be one of those teams that will do the same.”

Despite what the odds suggest, I suspect this is a danger game for us.
They have the makings of a very good midfield and dangerous forward line. And with the possible change in our tactics ahead of the 6-6-6 rule and possibly different dynamic in the forward line, who knows......

Every game is a danger game in the AFL but I think we go out there with a point to prove this year. Got a feeling we will make a statement against the Blues.

As long as the umpires don't gift them 5 goals like last year's season opener.

Blaming umpires is a waste of time.
True, but it was still an absolute disgrace. :shh
-
I look at the games some of their kids who have been arond for 2 -4 seasons and just improvement there will make them a tougher propisition than last yr.
All teams do the hard yards getting those games into players and enough preseasons behind them i reck they are ready to climb how far well your guess is as good as mine but if they stay healthy they wont be easy beats.
-
Ohhh yes, absolutely. Let's pray they beat us so we can login 2 minutes after the game and we can just belt everybody :shh
-
I hope Rance absolutely towels up Curnow so we can hear bat poo crazy reasons as to why it was an aberration and Curnow is actually not far off from being the next john coleman

Blaming umpires is a waste of time.
But stating the truth isn't.
We won but they were gifted 5 goals.

If Gold Coast wernt such a mess, Carlton would be a shoe in for the spoon.
Oh well atleast they’ll have a top 3 draft pick.......oh wait.......

Never take Carlton lightly..... :shh

True, but most people don't like Carlton's draft performances over the years... :shh

They won't jump us this year. They also won't be gifted 5 goals via soft 50m penalties.

Oh god! The annual round 1 rules raffle is upon us again! :scream

Pfft, what makes you say that? I wouldn’t put it passed the AFL to give em 10.

AFL fixture boss estimates monster crowd for season opener
By SEN
8 March 2019
AFL fixture boss Travis Auld has estimated a monster crowd of up to 90,000 to attend the 2019 season opener between Carlton and Richmond at the MCG.
Last year’s bumper crowd of 90,151 broke the Round 1 record of 87,119 previously held by the Blues and arch rivals Collingwood in 1995.
Auld praised the two powerhouse Victorian clubs for their ability to continually attract big crowds for the traditional fixture.
This video cannot be played because of a problem with your internet connection.(Error Code: 232002)
“There’s no reason to say that we shouldn’t get a crowd of in that mid to high 80s towards 90,000 again,” Auld told SEN’s Time On.
“This game has averaged over 80,000 for the last five years and both clubs have done a really good job to build the season opener and they deserve that opportunity.
“We focus a lot on making sure our game is accessible for supporters.
“If you can get 80,000 people to a game each and every year, then it’s something that the fans really enjoy and it’s a great way to start our season.”
Richmond will look to make it eight consecutive wins over Carlton when they meet on March 21 to kick-start the new campaign.

Looking ahead to our round 1 opposition, the Blues have been very competitive in both their JLT games.
* They've been efficient: they had far less of the ball today but had more inside F50s and more scoring shots. Could have pinched the game in the end.
* The Blues won the clearances against the Pies but that was more at around the ground stoppages (13-28). The Pies won the centre clearances 14-8.
* Cripps is obviously the main ballwinner and goalkicking midfielder. There's a big drop to their next mid. So who will tag him? Graham?
* The Pies smashed them on the outside. So they haven't improved that side of the game and are still heavily reliant on their inside play.
* Grundy dominated given his agility compared to Phillips. Makes Balta being in our round 1 side a certainty if he wasn't already.
* Carlton playing 3 tall forwards but their goals in the JLT have come from their smalls. McKay was the only tall forward to hit the scoreboard today (3 goals). Not allowing their talls to get isolated and forcing them to lead to the same spot is easier to defend against. Grimes or Broad will have to play as a 3rd tall defender.

It's going to be warm conditions.

Cripps can't do at all, but if he smashes us out of the middle and gets the ball in quickly with the 6-6-6 rules, they could be dangerous.

Match preview: Carlton v Richmond
AFL.com.au
Riley Beveridge
Mar 19, 2019
Where and when: MCG, Thursday March 21, 7.20pm AEDT
Last time they met: MCG, round one, 2018: Richmond 17.19 (121) defeated Carlton 15.5 (95)
The Blues stunned the Tigers when they kicked the first five goals of last year's season-opener, only to be overrun. Richmond led by just four points at the final change, but eventually put the game to bed in the last term. Charlie Curnow earned the three Brownlow votes after kicking five goals.
What it means for Carlton: After a two-win season last year, this could set the tempo for Carlton's improvement. While a win would appear unlikely on the surface, a greater sense of competitiveness could bring about some optimism for the year ahead.
What it means for Richmond: The Tigers were stunned in last year's preliminary final and must respond in round one. A lethargic performance could spell some concern among fans. But should they produce an emphatic performance, 2019 could bring more dominance.
How Carlton wins: The Blues always get up for the season-opener. If they can ride the wave of positivity stemming from their JLT campaign, maybe they can shock the Tigers.
How Richmond wins: The Tigers beat their young opponents with their forward pressure. Should they get the game on their terms early, it could spell bad news for the Blues.
The stat: The streak is dead, long live the streak. The Tigers have won seven straight games against the Blues. But before that, the Blues had won 11 of the previous 12 against the Tigers.
The match-up: Patrick Cripps v Dustin Martin
Two of the best midfielders in the competition. Martin is still ranked as the No.1 player in the game by AFL Player Ratings, while Cripps is ranked No.19. Both are bulls out of the centre, and both can also have a massive impact moving forward.
It's a big week for: Jack Riewoldt (Richmond)
Regardless of whether Tom Lynch makes his debut for the Tigers, this could be a massive night for the reigning Coleman Medal winner. Should the club's new recruit play, the dynamic between the two will be intriguing. Should he not, Riewoldt will be keen to show he's still the big dog.
Expect Jack Riewoldt to have a big night irrespective of Tom Lynch's availability. Picture: AFL Photos
Big call: Forget Lynch, Jack proves he's still the main attraction in Richmond's forward line.
Prediction: Richmond by 29 points

Five burning questions: Richmond v Carlton
Peter Ryan
The Age
20 March 2019
Season 2019 will come to life on Thursday night when Carlton and Richmond clash in front of a packed MCG. Here are the burning questions.
What impact will star recruit Tom Lynch have on the match?
The 26-year-old is not overhyped. He is a genuine match winner who will complement Jack Riewoldt perfectly as he leads hard at the ball and wins the ball on the ground. Of course it might take some time for Lynch to settle into his groove inside 50 but it might not, either. He kicked a lazy eight goals when playing for the Suns against Carlton in round two last season and his desire to impress will be even greater tomorrow night when he plays his first game under lights at the MCG.
What will the Tigers throw at the Blues' No.1 pick Sam Walsh?
The number one pick has not put a foot wrong in the pre-season but he will be tested physically and mentally as he enters the AFL scene. The presence of Lynch, and subsequent commentary around his performance, might take the pressureoff the first-gamer. The 18-year-old has great poise and confidence but he also has plenty to learn and his real education will begin against the ruthless Tigers. What will make things interesting is that umpires will pay free kicks to players who are niggled off the ball unnecessarily, which will make it harder for opponents wanting to get nasty towards young on-ballers. Whatever Walsh provides in round one it's worth remembering he is just 18.
Can Carlton improve their scoring power?
As the list takes shape with Patrick Cripps leading a young midfield, Charlie Curnow enthusing a disparate forward line and Jacob Weitering aiming to become the key defender Carlton craves, the focus will now turn to performance. The first hurdle might be kicking 100 points, something the Blues have not managed for 55 games, last reaching the mark in round 11, 2016. Mitch McGovern, Alex Fasolo and Harry McKay give the Blues more than one option inside 50 while their number of inside-50s will surely exceed last year's average of 45. Although Blues coach Brendon Bolton says the total points is immaterial it would be nice to get that monkey off the back early in the season while a win would be a bonus as Carlton hasn't beaten Richmond in the season-opener since 2012. A loss would be veteran Marc Murphy's 100th loss while a win would make it win 150 as he plays his 250th game.
How will the players, coaches, umpires and fans adapt to the new rules?
Unnecessary 50-metre penalties marred last year's season-opener so expect outrage if a player incurs two consecutive 50-metre penalties or a team gives away a free kick for not being in their starting positions. The fans will notice the absence of runners about as much as they noted their presence last season but the coaches' frustration might peak as they struggle to get messages to their players. That should make television cutaways to the coaches box more enthralling for those at home. Goal-line technology including the new 'snicko' will once again be under scrutiny as the AFL attempts to get more decisions right than wrong. Expect more open clearances and the chance for some high-flying or leading forwards to cash in on quick breakaways more often. Beyond that the game will be much the same, as confusing and confounding and as unpredictable as ever.
Is Richmond's quest for redemption likely to succeed?
Last year's shock preliminary final loss to Collingwood was a shattering end to a season that hit such great heights but finishing third gives the Tigers motivation for 2019.
Dustin Martin's emerged wiser after dealing with the reality of backing up 2017 while key forward Lynch has been added to an already good line-up. The core is as strong as ever although the real test for the Tigers will come if Trent Cotchin, Martin, Alex Rance (playing game 200 in round one) or Jack Riewoldt (playing game 250) are injured. The rule changes will force them to defend differently. Richmond is good but this year will be more difficult than the previous two with the expectations being that they will be slower out of the blocks this season as they build towards a positive conclusion.

Tigers looking to avoid repeat from last Blues fixture: Vlastuin
By SEN
20 March 2019[/i]
Richmond defender Nick Vlastuin has stressed the importance of a fast start ahead of their season opener against Carlton at the MCG tomorrow night.
In the corresponding fixture last year, the Blues jumped the Tigers by booting the opening five goals to take narrow leads into both the quarter-time and half-time intervals.
Damien Hardwick’s side went on to win the match comfortably in the end, but Vlastuin says they don’t want to be playing catch-up from the outset this time around.
“Both teams got off to a good start until half-time then we managed to wrestle it back,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“We were playing players in different positions and different roles within the side, so that did affect it a little bit.
“Winning becomes a habit so it’s good to look at it that way, but you don’t want to give teams a six-to-seven goal head start and have to chase them down.”
Vlastuin, 24, put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Punt Road until at least the end of 2021.
Richmond have dominated this fixture in recent times, winning the last seven meetings.

Nank to Edwards to Weller. Puts it out in space to rioli on the wing. Sells some candy and hits up Graham 45 out.
Goal ump calls it touched on the line. Off to the Review. Point.

Should have had some on the line to shepherd it through. Phillips had an uncontested jump to touch the ball.

I had forgotten how much I hate Brian Taylor.

Graham on the boundary to the goalsquare but it's rushed through.

Pleasing to see us winning the clearances.
Lynch already making a difference. We look very dangerous when we have deep entries.
Balta is going to be a scary player once he fully develops and gains more experience.
3 goals from our new recruits (could have been more) is a good sign.

Great tackle Sheds gets the turnover. Good transition. Almost stuffed that up though. McIntosh stays down for the goal :gotigers.

Poor Dan. Butler sprays on the run from 40 for a throw-in.
Quick kick by Carlton and Cotch jumps high over Cripps 40 out. Point.

A few errors from us (Floss running under ball & Rance under pressure OOTF) allows them to get forward. From the entry they get their first.
We're just gone off in the last 5 mins. Just not as clean and allowing theBlues to break out and clear from our forward line and gain more possession.
And they get another.
41 - 14

This is what really gives me the shites about us. Foot taken off the pedal too often. Go for the bloody jugular

Butler nails Fisher in the pocket.
Higgo from the impossible angle and the ump pays the advantage :gotigers.
Needed that one to break the Carlton momentum.
Rich 47
Carl 20

Aside from that tackle on Fisher, Butler has started the year way out of form.

You don't handball to a flat footed ruckman :facepalm.
Setterfield stupidly falls over his feet and kicks it OOTF. However, Rioli shot misses.
48 - 20
-
That was out of bounds :huh.
-
Sheds to lambert who drops a sitter but the Carlton defender hits him high. Gives it off to SHort who misses.
49 - 21
We've got the yips since being 5.1 :banghead.
-
Talk and work together out there! :banghead
We were out. Poor high kick by Higgo almost gives it away. Then Rioli tries to dribble it through with two free Tigers running towards goal.
50 - 22

Our forward entries this qtr have been slop.
-
Man I am really starting to dislike butler!
-
Dumb dumb dumb. They get a goal with 13 secs to play :banghead
Half-time
Richmond 5.4 7.8-50
Carlton 0.1 4.4-28
Goals: Lynch 2, Higgins 2, Balta, McIntosh, Nankervis.
One word for that quarter - SLOP!
-
Game could have over at half time. Stopped chasing that qtr.
Cmon Tigers
-
Reckon we are overusing it. We have a potent forward, get it in there.
-
Man I am really starting to dislike butler!
I think I've got him for about 5 dumb schoolboy mistakes. Running over the ball (x3), needlessly hanging onto an opponent when his teammate was about to win the ball at HF and shanking an open goal on the run with a nothing kick.

Butler is AFL’s first professional tackler, zero football ability. Opens the door for the wrestling fraternity!
-
Dusty has been poo.

Castagna mistakes are generally skill errors.
Butlers are down to laziness and indecision

Dusty has been poo.
His kicking has.

Prestia goes long towards Lynch. Jack clever tap to Nank :gotigers

Back to back goals to them.
We get it forward but Jack kicks it off the side of the boot 15 out :P.
56 - 41

Rioli centres it with a high weighted ball and Jack with the set leaps high for the speckie. Goal from 20 out :gotigers.
Needed that!
Rich 9.8-62
Carl 6.5-41
-
Sheds is spectating a bit too much on the outside tonight.
-
We punish them for their miss.
Prestia to Higgins 35 out. Kicks his third :gotigers.
Rich 10.8-68
Carl 6.6-42
-
Terrible. 3 mistackles on big Mckay.
Lucky they miss.
68 - 43
-
Houli on the wing short to Rioli. Off to Graham who transfers play to the members side. Short on the run sprays his shot OOTF.
Geez we've shanked a few tonight :scream.
-
They punish us for our missed shot.
68 - 49
-
Butler another poor kick/decision. Having a shocker!
-
I am sure we will win this, but a lot of room for improvement that is for sure.

Houki has probably been our best then cotchin

Dumb footy again. Just kicking the ball back to them :scream.

Butler is killing the RFC :shh
-
Our forward half play since 1/4 time has been slop. Can't hit a target to save ourselves.
We also seem to be getting sucked into the honeypot. Getting owned on the outside thanks to free Carlton players.
-
Is Lynch still out there?
-
:banghead
-
Are we trying to throw the game? Fumble, fumble, fumble.
Dusty has been ordinary.
-
Oh great! Rance has injured his knee :P.
-
Need to lift now boys
-
Oh Geez
-
Our skill level is bottom 4 stuff tonight.
Point to us.
69 - 56
-
Houki has probably been our best then cotchin
Houli cotch edwards
-
Any chance we can kick it to advantage of our two key forwards?
What’s with our forward 50 entries?? :banghead
And we are getting smashed in the middle.
-
Dammit Butler
-
Cut out the cute Globetrotter stuff! :banghead
Butler again :facepalm.
-
If Rance has done his knee we cant win the flag.
-
If Dan Butler plays next week Hardwick weak as water. He has been pathetic again. Better do something this quarter
-
If Rance is done his knee .....’
Goodbye 2019. :surrender
-
We need to fix our midfield/ centre clearances are woeful.
We need to fix our forward 50 entries. Really hopeless use of two power forwards.
I know it’s round 1 but it’s a Really terrible showing.
-
Butler and Astbury :thumbsdown
-
3/4 time
Richmond 5.4 7.8 10.9-69
Carlton 0.1 4.4 8.8-56
Goals: Higgins 3, Lynch 2, Nankervis 2, Balta, McIntosh, Riewoldt.
More SLOP!
Cotch trying to lift the side but hardly no one is going with him class-wise. Too many passengers tonight not willing to win the hard ball and play the percentages. Carlton is simply working harder as a team and so they are getting the ball more in space and are cleaner. We need to lift big time with our team pressure and workrate. The cute taps don't work if teammates aren't supporting one another and getting numbers to the loose ball.
-
If Rance has done his knee we cant win the flag.
Seems the best case scenario is a medial from the vision. Worst case is obviously an ACL.
-
You don't handball to the hot player :facepalm.
Anyway we keep possession and Weller finds Lambert 40 out. He kicks across the face and Carlton mark.
We get it back and go deep. Jack in the pack snaps from 15 out but it sprays to the pocket and Carlton clear.
Dusty and Higgins scramble the ball. Out of Lambert but his outside of the foot kick hits the post.
We haven't taken our chances since 1/4 time :scream.
70 - 56
-
Well we tried to stuff that up as well :facepalm.
Somehow Lynch are mucking it up initially kicks his 3rd :gotigers.
Rich 11.10-76
Carl 8.8-56
-
That was great efforts from Short. Dusty marks 60 out. Goes long to Lynch who is against two and cops it high. Misses from the pocket.
77 - 56
-
Clever by Higgo to Kmac who goes long. Lynch can't mark and it's rushed.
78 - 56
-
Balta nice kick to Kmac on the wing. Another smart kick off the instep to Houli. Bachar's pass to jack misses. Graham's tackle gets us back possession. Finally Butler does something right. Goal! :gotigers
We got forward from the centre clearance and Weller waiting down kicks his first for the Tiges :gotigers
Rich 13.12-90
Carlton 8.8-56
-
Rance walking back to the bench with an icepack on his knee.
We go coast to coast and Nank kicks his 3rd :gotigers
Rich 14.12-96
Carl 8.9-57
-
Great chase Grimesy :clapping.
-
Graham has been a beast tonight.
-
Lynch is nackered now haven't played a game all preseason.
Rushed point to us.
97 - 57
4 mins to go.
-
Junk time goal to them.
97 - 64
-
Take the win and move on :gotigers
Final Score
Richmond 5.4 7.8 10.9 14.13-97
Carlton 0.1 4.4 8.8 9.10-64
Goals: Higgins 3, Lynch 3, Nankervis 3, Balta, McIntosh, Riewoldt, Butler, Weller.
-
Frustrating game, but I'd rather be playing like that now than later in the season.
Rance had ice on his knee at the end of the game. He was sitting on the bench. Hope that is a good sign.
-
Rance?
-
Rance?
He said himself it doesn't look good. ACL I reckon.
-
Dimma gave the win a 4/10.
Balmey said he's not that happy. Carlton played well and ran hard which stretched us so we'll take the win but we played poorly.
So at least the coaches aren't going to sugarcoat the win. We play like we did after 1/4 time against the Pies next week and we'll get smashed.
-
Nank Cotch Graham Houli best on.
-
Nank was huge tonight :cheers
-
Glad to see Graham given a more attacking role, showed his ball winning ability tonight. Has racked up big numbers in the VFL in a similar role in the past, will add to our midfield if it continues.
-
Nank Cotch Graham Houli best on.
Yep plus Higgo for mine as our top 5.
-
Shank & Prestia's games were underrated...as were Grimes & Vladtuin's,... :shh
Lambert, Butler terrible. Martin terrible for three quarters. Astbury's form a worry, even moreso now with Rance out.... :shh :shh
Not surprisingly the Tom and Jack combo obviously still needs work....didn't seperate Carlton's tall defenders enough....and.we be shouldn't really be finding ourselves with Balta one out with two blokes on him when those two are both in the side... :shh :shh :shh
-
Still see the same issue as in 2018 and in the JLT series and opener today getting our hand on the footy first in centre bounces and winning clearances unless we improve that we caught be in trouble.
-
If you watch closely - a lot of times we do actually get the first touch in the centre bounces and contests but then immediately turn it over either. through poor/lazy disposal, not being clean enough, not spreading fast enough/over committing or just a simple lack of composure in traffic...a few bigger bodies cwoud also help but they actually need to be good in congestion or it makes no difference - see f.e. whenever Caddy goes there and is largely ineffective... :shh
-
id be playing sheds in the middle more....great hands, evasive and quick.
-
Need stong and clean mids and tall mids who can stand in tackles and still get the ball away.....Ross has the formerr qualty and RCD has the latter....both probably not ready yet (RCD has no tank for a start) but hopefully we can get them up to speed sooner rather than later... :shh
-
Need to get the ball out to Rioli more in space on the outside
-
Lids in his prime would kill it at centre bounces with the new rules
-
Pre-injury Foley woud be handy right now too... :shh
-
As poo a win as you can get, fair we never thrash them
But apart from 1st qtr it was pretty yuck
-
Our mids don’t assert themselves over the ball. They try to stick a hand in here hoping it spills out into space. Once Cripps stands over the ball you know he has won the clearance.

With Cotch showing the way you think more would follow, but nope

Our set up at centre bounces was terrible in regards to manning Cripps. Cotch stood next to him most times and at other stoppages around the ground and didn't really stick one tackle
What a star that bloke Cripps is.
-
Graham was a real positive last night. Grimes also very good as was Nank. Shane's handpassing is sublime. Agree with comments not a great game. Definitely very rusty.

Not wanting to say that he’s overhyped or over rated; but I wasn’t overly impressed with his game last night and I often think he lacks the polish that the other elite kids of the comp have. I honestly felt Cotchin outplayed him last night. Did the gritty things that helped turn/halve contests.
-
They got us for 2 quarters I felt they wanted the pill more than us.
Apart from that we had the game in hand all night, they were never gonna over come us.
More improvement will come over the course of the year, I still think we will be right in there at the end of the year.
Lynchmond will start clunking the sitters he missed last night.
I think the blues hit their ceiling last night.
-
The error-ridden first half of tonight's game didn't make our mistakes seem so bad. Hopefully we can put our poor skills down to Round 1 rust. We'll find out next week if our skills and workrate improve with the Pies coming off the back of a lost.
-
8 straight wins over the Blues (our best winning streak ever over them).
It's now been over 2000 days since we've lost to Carlton.
May it long continue :gotigers.
-
Our game was the one with the most running. So our fitness was good to run out the game strongly.

Nank was huge tonight :cheers
Nank should have been huge playing against a second stringer. Lets see how he goes against Grundy next week and lets see if his ruckwork has improved against a front liner.

I am not talking about a future game, I am giving Nank credit for a great game in round 1. I am also interested in seeing how he goes against the best ruckman in the comp this week...being competitive would be a good result. Be happy for a player....

good for you im talking about expectations so we are on a different page.
We should all expect our front line ruckman to perform well against a second stringer or do you disagree. In saying that i agree he did what was needed.

This time last year, Nank beat Grundy. Just saying...... :shh

I was acknowledging his performance against the oppositions selected first ruckman. Nank was aggressive and moved around the ground like a mid...a very good performance. I trust he will provide an acceptable contest against the best ruckman in the business this week.
-
No, I'm with Claw on this one. If Nank doesn't go close to beating Grundy...he has to be dropped and replaced in the ruck by Jack Ross
-
Enough with the insults and baiting :banghead

If Claw approves, the knob is probably 40 now though. he likes his ruckman younger.
and before a mod goes ape on me and chuckster, by knob, we mean big T-Bone Knobel. Great guy, got a lot of class and heart

Just goes to show how utterly forgettable and irrelelvant Carlton are these days - at first I was wondering why Shai was awarding coaches votes .... :shh
