The velvet sledgehammer could play. Lead, mark, kick. The entire comp has forgotten that art apart from the premiers

Yep. Lordo was no spud. Kicked close to 1k in his career because he was a jet.

Dunno about this match up though. Feel like Rance would do well. Probably depends on the midfield kicking it in....:shh

Hard to compare different eras. How would a lead, mark & kick full forward like Lloyd go in today's zone defence footy?

If the pass is too good then no defender can stop it especially as Lloyd was terrific at marking at full pace on the lead. He had very sticky hands. Having said that, Rance is slightly taller and bigger than what Lloyd was yet is quick enough to match most leads. If the pass wasn't so perfect then Rance would more often than not get a spoil in IMHO.

One thing Lloyd wouldn't be able to do these days is take forever throwing grass into the air before taking his shot. He is one of the reasons why they brought in the 30 second shot clock.

I remember when Lloyd kicked six on Gasper when he was probably the best defender going around.

Gasper's kicking was so bad, he probably kicked every disposal straight to Lloyd

Yep, ropey kicking at best.

Given he was All-Australian, it makes you wonder how good might have been if he could kick.

Did well to keep it to 6, it could've/should've been 12.

I don’t remember Gasper ever being the best defender in the comp, he won a couple of A.A’s and was an elite nullifying defender but would frankly struggle in today’s game with poor disposal and at times questionable decision making.
He did come after a period where we lacked any decent key backs since the retirement of St Francis which probably elevated his standing with us.
That era of Richmond player will be more remembered for holding out for more money and sacking coaches than being elite talents or teams.
