Shaw got 8, this bloke should get 7
1 less for coming guilty

Depends on exactly what the bet was on.
Shaw got done for putting money on Nick Maxwell kicking the first goal knowing he was going to be named at FF.
If Stephenson’s bet was just a straight up and down head to head I doubt he’ll get anymore than one or two >:(
-
Bet was on a pies game mate, in which he played in according to the west australian.
$50 too so it was more than shaws

Yep, just read the reported details.
Bet was in a team mate getting x amount of possessions.
On past cases should be 8 week minimum :o
-
He should get 12 weeks for pure stupidity
With all the education they get on this sort of stuff this is beyond stupid :banghead
Anyways.....
Reckon he will cop a decent whack in part because they are reporting he got a mate to place the bet on his behalf
No sympathy for him, none what so ever

22 weeks. (12 suspended)
:thumbsup

22 weeks. (12 suspended)

And a $20k fine. He is also barred from VFL games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The AFL has today suspended Collingwood's Jaidyn Stephenson for 22 matches, with 12 matches to be suspended, and fined him $20,000 for breaching the AFL's rules related to betting on AFL matches.
The 12-match suspended sanction will apply for the remainder of Stephenson's career.
Stephenson will still be allowed to train with Collingwood but won't be able to play in their next 10 matches. He will not be able to play in Collingwood's VFL team during this time.
Stephenson placed three same game multi-bets in three separate matches this season in which he played. The bet stakes totalled $36.
The matches in question were against the Western Bulldogs in round four, Essendon in round six and St Kilda in round nine.
The multi-bets included legs on:
Collingwood to win,
Collingwood winning margin,
Stephenson to kick a goal,
Stephenson to kick three or more goals,
Collingwood teammates to kick a goal,
Collingwood teammates to kick two or more goals, and
Collingwood teammates to have in excess of a number of disposals.
On two occasions Stephenson gave cash to a friend to place the bets for him, on one occasion he used the friend's betting account. All bets were unsuccessful.

With the no playing VFL during the 10 week suspension period although he will be available for finals there will be no opportunity for match fitness. Complete brain fade from the young man although hopefully this will prevent more serious issues arising from gambling addiction surfacing in later years.
-
Staggeringly stupid! No wonder he plays for Collingwood! :lol
-
IMHO the penalty should have been X weeks without a suspended sentence. What is the point of a suspended sentence anyway in this situation? If he does it again he should automatically get a much bigger sentence anyway negating the fact that the AFL would need to add his suspended sentence to the penalty. I would have thought if you get caught twice, it should be a life ban anyway..... :whistle
-
Another dodgy AFL decision ::).
Stephenson now allowed to play VFL this Saturday because the AFL scheduled Collingwood to play its final H/A AFL game on a Friday night.
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2019/08/21/afl-allows-banned-magpie-to-make-vfl-return/
Since when if you're suspended at one level are you allowed to play at another level on the same weekend?
-
Cheating.
He should be suspected for X amount of rounds, not 'AFL specific games'.
This needs to be reversed!

Some in the media have finally caught on.

Well at least the Pies won't be able to do it again this year. Their VFL team lost and won't be playing finals. So no more VFL matches for their fringe & injured players.
