Richmond has used its second selection in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft (No. 13 overall) to recruit 20-year-old rebounding defender James Trezise from Richmond VFL.
Trezise has made an immediate impact in his short time at Tigerland within the VFL program. Playing in all eight games so far this season, the exciting left-footer has demonstrated his raw talent across a number of positions.
Recruited from: Richmond VFL
Position: Rebounding defender
Height: 188cm
Weight: 76kg
DOB: 15/6/2002
What the Richmond recruiters say about Trezise...
"Originally recruited from Tooradin-Dalmore FC in the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition, James joined Richmond VFL for the first time this season having never previously been in a state league program or elite junior program. In such a short amount of time, his dedication to his football has been second to none and consequentially his improvement has been rapid.
"His competitiveness, defensive intent and big vertical power has seen him used across a number of positions in his eight VFL games this season. He has predominantly settled as a back, averaging 16 disposals, five marks and five tackles including a 29 disposal, 10 mark game against Geelong in Round 8.
"At only 20 years old with enormous upside, we are incredibly excited to bring James into the club in a full-time capacity, an opportunity he thoroughly deserves."

13. Richmond - James Trezise
Defender
Richmond VFL
188cm/76kg
15/6/02
Trezise's versatility has allowed him to play a number of different roles through the start of the Tigers' VFL season. He turns 21 this month and featured in Tooradin's premiership side in the Gippsland competition last year before winning a chance at Richmond. Trezise's size has made him an appealing prospect for clubs as his height allows him to intercept in the back half as well as push up the ground.

PICK 13 - RICHMOND - JAMES TREZISE (RICHMOND VFL)
21, Defender, 188cm, 76kg
Chris Cavanagh says: Recruited from Tooradin-Dalmore as a half-forward, Trezise has shone brightly across half-back in the VFL this year. He has good speed and endurance, an exciting leap and is a booming kick.

Hmm just a list clogger eh. So you have seen a lot of him great. So rather than just the list clogger comments on a bloke who has been there 5 minutes put it on the line and say why.
Can he kick. has the physical attributes composure, footy smarts pace oh ffs you get the gist. Tell us all why he won't make it based on some substance that you have seen.
-
No.
-
Huge amount of growth left in him and will be a good player on the HF. Is fantastic in the air and reads the game like a veteran :shh

As posted by Willy in the team thread:
-----------------
James Trezise will debut for the Club in the final-round clash.
Trezise, 21, was elevated from Richmond's VFL side in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, taken with the Club's second selection (No. 13 overall).
When he was recruited from Tooradin-Dalmore to the Tigers' VFL program ahead of the 2023 season, Trezise had never previously been in a state league program or elite junior program.
The rebounding defender, who stands at 188cm, had clear raw talent and was recognised for his work ethic.
An exciting left-footer, Trezise has been a reliable pillar in defence for the VFL Tigers throughout his 18 matches in 2023.
The 20-year-old was a key contributor in last Sunday's 12-point win, collecting 18 disposals, four marks and three inside-50s.
Hard-tackling and strong aerially, Morris said Trezise had consistently stood out and was equally ready for his opportunity.
"(He has) continued his good form," Morris said of Trezise after the weekend's VFL game.
"He impacted both in the air and at ground level, and continues to excite fans."

He has hardly been in our system so give him time. BTW he is around 80kg now but the perfect size would be another 6-8 kg in the off season. Looking forward to seeing him intercept all day :shh
-
Looked good to me
-
Needs to tidy up some of his rushed kicks but a descent showing.
-
Yes- thought he and Brown were good and will be better with experience.
-
Seriously needs to get rid of that man bun. Makes me sick to the core. Cut your hair or let I flow freely.
-
Apart from a couple of shocking shanked kicks thought he was good
-
Did some ok things but he's another shyte kick that doesn't improve the side. :shh

Ok I'll be positive this time (sort of)- looks a smarter version of McKintosh if he plays ahead him and Mansell next year then I'm all for it (would prefer the likes Clarke & Coulthard did instead though. ).:shh

If he can't kick get rid of him. We have enough who have a dip but lack basic skills.
If his kicking and decision making is good then persevere.
What ive seen of Smith i think hes a fantastic option to be developed off hb. Pace a very good kick will take the game on and can defend. Trouble is im concerned Smithy's career is at an end before it ever got started with his injury.
The team is screaming out for players who are quick and can kick.
