Why is a interstate game on an hour delay  ???

Because Ch7 are showing all Friday night games at 8.30pm just like Ch9 used to and would still be doing if they still had the rights. I heard Johnno (ch 7 melb boss) say this a few weeks ago on 3AW

I reckon it'll change in 2008 but not this year

I'm not blaming the networks WP. I just thought the AFL would start the game at 8pm Adelaide time so it was live into the Eastern states.

How are you guys viewing the game tonight? Are going with the delayed tv or the live radio?

I'm impatient lol so I'll probably listen into the radio and if we're competitive I'll switch on the tv later on.

Half time  Crows 53 Tigers 51

Richo 2 goals

Jake King playing well as is Foley.

Great second quarter for the Tigers - 5 goals to 1.

We were getting killed in clearances in the first quarter.  Edwards made a few mistakes but seems to have settled down.  Jury still out on Meyer although he has kicked a goal.  Krak off with a cut to the eye and blood pouring down his face.

Excellent 2nd quarter. Best of the youngsters were King, Edwards and Polak. Joel very good.

Crows get first of 3rd quarter due to a skill error  :scream

Just can't get a goal this quarter.

3/4 time.  Crows 11 10
              Tiger 9 3

Had trouble getting it past the centre this quarter.  King and Foley playing well.  Johnson the clanger king.  Tiv has been ok.  Polo has messed up a few times.
Title: Re: Richmond vs Adelaide match thread
Post by: mightytiges on May 18, 2007, 09:41:12 PM
We finally get it forward and the siren goes  :P. Totally outplayed that quarter yet we are hanging on and at least having a dip. Just couldn't score. Still 19 points isn't insummountable. The commentators are saying the breeze was to the end we were kicking that quarter yet the other end has been the scoring end ???.

The Crows are flooding just like they did last year  :chuck but we couldn't grab the lead to force them to man up.

Raining now. Need to keep the ball moving forward quickly as it's going to be harder to score.

Yes I agree. Schultz was useless tonight.  Well done to Polak for getting that last goal.  Commentators were raving about Jake King.

Someone said Schultz only had 2 kicks 3 handballs.  Back to Coburg.

Effort for 3 to 3.5 quarters was excellent. It's that quarter off period that has cost us 5 games this year. Best team effort for the year. Lots of contributors. Best game of the year for many Tigers. We tried to play positive footy in the face of negative tactics. Crows won't win a flag playing that crap against a top side.

Kingy was great. Might score a Rising star award based on tonight. Our defence as a whole were good considering we were undersized. Polak spanked perrie. Joel, Newy, Rainesy (although he had 5 kicked on him - 2 not his fault), Lids, Howat, petts, Edwards, Tivs all gave us run.

Foley was superb again in the guts.

Edwards is the find of the year. Got caught a couple times but it's no coincidence we got back into the game when he came on.

Plough coached well but probably one thing he could have done was move sarge to defence as he wasn't doing anything up forward and Rainesy was giving away height to welsh.

It was a very brave effort from the boys. Riewoldt should come in for Schulz, Id like to see Hughes in for Krakouer and Id like to see Casserley get a run replacing Tuck.

Axel Foley is quite a player these days. Thank god Ive forgotten whether I had him on my not a premiership player list coz Id almost have to take him of the list  ;D

While Thursty needs to keep playing, i think he has been bought back in too quickly.

Would have been better off with McGuane tonight.

Still think Petts has been giving us nothing. He needs a spell at Coburg to make him a little more hungry.

Tuck is crap full stop. Get rid of him.

Bring in Jack, White, Hughes

Out Sarge, Jackson & Pettifer.

i think Schulz may be saved by Richo's injury.  My guess is perhaps Jack and hughes all come back and schulz stays....
i know that we only played with 2 tall forwards tonight...i think that's due to team setup....adelaide doesn't have a tall defence...but the bombers..their defence is rather tall with michael, fletcher and ryder..so i think terry might still go with 3 talls instead of 2...therefore it would be Schulz, Jack and Hughes there for me..

Great effort by the lads tonight. Intensity was there. Other than the first 10 minutes and last minute of the first quarter when the crows kicked 5 of their goals but that is football. I am gut wrenched after a narrow loss and one that we could have legitimately won. I could say any one of the Jackson Petts or Richo miss in the last quarter compounded by the Boch goal in the square where Polak did not punch but that is football. I have consoled myself with the continual emergence as a gun midfielder in Foley Lids has come back well since his disaster a fortnight ago I also thought King and Pattison in the ruck worked tirelessly all night. Edwards made a few errors but I would rather see the kids make errors trying to do something positive like carry the ball run hard and kick long than make errors playing garbage chip chip chip footy. So there are positives and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I thought our captain was awful. He is a tragedy of a captain. Would he be worse than Van denburg at Hawthorn? Right now I think so at that is being brutally frank and honest even though VB for Hawthorn is currently not playing.  :banghead
How a fit and firing Coughlan could work competently with Foley. A very appetising predicament should it arise. Disappointed but not disillusioned.  Richo injury another case of bad luck. Real rotten luck actually would have been handy next week. Schulz will play next week just hope Terry brings in Jack and Cleve in also.  Maybe a  stint at Coburg might re kindle our captains passion to play? :banghead

Walls has given us no credit for our second quarter comeback. He claims Adelaide let us back into the game  ::).

Quote
Fans despise it, but ugly football has its upside
Robert Walls | May 22, 2007 | The Age

In Adelaide last Friday, Neil Craig's Crows flew out of the blocks with seven goals in the first quarter. In the second, they kicked one, and unbelievably had only 10 long kicks. They would have had a lot more kicks that went backwards than long and forwards. But why?

Perhaps Craig feels no team can sustain the impetus in modern football to kick 28 goals in a game, so players take the heat out by slowing the tempo and denying opponents the ball. By chipping the ball around backwards and sideways, there is no gut-busting running, and the opposition can't score if it doesn't have the ball. Trouble is, it's not always easy to flick on the fast switch.

I believe Adelaide's slowdown in the second quarter helped the Tigers get back into the game, and the Crows got a hell of a fright when scores were level in the final 20 minutes. That they only won by nine points — at home, against a far less experienced and talented Tigers team — should be cause for concern. Had the Crows gone for the throat in the second term, it could well have been game over by half-time.

What utter crap Walls  ::). The Crows slowed the game down to stop our run. We were smashing them in the stoppages and had 5-0 centre clearances in the second quarter. If Craig hadn't gone to tempo footy we could have been a couple of goals up at half-time.
