I heard that too WP but last night they said Roach was a outside chance to play and he's played the 2 last weeks for North Ballarat.

North Ballarat want it more at the moment. Lucky they are off target. Coburg playing too cute for the conditions and committing turnovers by foot.

JON done some good things

Simmo got some handy touches.

Schulz and Kingsley next to ineffectual

Overall not a great quality game thus far

Quarter time

Coburg   3.1-19
NB         2.7-19

Goals: Schulz, Neville, Moore

NB on top that quarter but didn't make the most of their chances and Coburg did. No contested marks in first 6 minutes but ended up with 30 and 8 in the last couple of minutes so hopefully we're getting into the game.
Jack (7 possies) in defence playing well. So is Connors (11) although one mistake when he was outbodied to easily. McGuane (6) and Edwards not too bad either. JON getting a bit of it but turned it over and needed to use his body more like many of his teammates. North Ballarat broke through too many Coburg tackles.
told to make their opponents accountable by Collins when running up the ground.
Graham playing a loose man in defence but needed to chop off the forward.

Riewoldt and Sylvester have been rocks down back

Kingsley actually pretty good that qtr

Meyer no touches at all I believe.

Simmo and Graham dominating the ruck but we're not getting the benefit from the clearances. Simmo has had to do 2 himself. Coburg lucky to be just 11 points down. The positive is so many Burgers are down that if they lift we should win.

Best: Simmo, Moore, McGuane, Jack, Connors. Kingsley's made the most of his goal chances. Graham in the ruck. Most of the other RFC players have been unsighted.

3/4 time

Coburg 3.1  7.4   10.10-70
NB       2.7  8.9    11.13-79

Goals: Kingsley 2, Moore 2, Gazzo 2, Neville 2, Hartigan, Schulz

Kingsley had the chance to put us in front yet wimped it, passed it off and turned it over. The Roosters have got the last 3 goals. Good-bye Kent.

Couldn't agree more - he's a full forward, had a mark 40 to 45 metres out and had have no confidence in his ability to kick the goal. It cost Coburg the game - we were 3 points down. He has no future with RFC.

Shocking discipline from Coburg today. Both in terms of giving away stupid frees and 50s and doing the team things. The ump was whistle happy but we didn't make it hard for them. Andy Collins would be roperable.

Jack was best of the RFC players IMO. Had an impact at both ends and stood out for the whole 4 quarters. 20+ possies.

Edwards was a typical classy 18 year old. Stood out in his 3rd quarter cameo where he almost single-handedly kept Coburg in it with his breaking of the lines and creativity. Solid first quarter. Didn't see much of him in the 2nd and last although he was still chasing. As he matures he'll last the 4 quarters. Still got around 20 possies.

Connors was good up until he took that screamer then tried to do the mercurial things after that instead of K.I.S.S. That 50m penalty he gave away where he shoved the ball in his opponents face after giving away the free showed he had lost his head. Had roughly 16 possies.

Moore was good in the first quarter but didn't have much impact after that. He probably did his job as I don't think his direct opponent got away from him.

Simmo got through which was good to see. It looked like he played about half the game all up. Had 14 possies to 3/4 time.

McGuane wasn't too bad before he went off injured.

Graham tried hard (kicking still very iffy  :-\) but his and Simmo's dominance in the ruck wasn't used by our runners except Edwards and Neville. North Ballarat were harder at it and won more of the stoppages.

Kingsley - As mentioned that non-shot which could have put us in front means bye-bye. As a senior player it was unforgivable. We want players who take the responsibility and want to take ownership of the game when it is up for grabs. I only saw that from Jack and Edwards today.

Schulz - shocker.

Meyer - was he out there?! 2 marks, 2 kicks I think. Both he and Sarge aren't doing themselves favours if they want to be at Punt Rd in 2008.

JON - I know he's playing without a preseason so I'm not too critical if he struggles physically or fitness-wise but how he was considered a first round pick by most junior watches and phantom drafts (not just us) with his kicking technique/decision making is hard to fathom. A later pick sure as the other parts of his game have a lot of upside but not first round. Seems they mainly went on his very clean hands, athleticism and lightning pace. Sorry for being harsh and it's not his fault he was chosen a pick 8 but top 10 picks shouldn't have question marks over their kicking.

Harts - hardly sighted. Another who looks like he won't be around next year.

Yeah - saw that myself and wondered what he was doing.

I can see your point about JON, MT, about his kicking/decision-making and being a top 10 pick. We'll just have to hope that he'll develop in those areas over the next 18mths.

Meyer - dear me, he just doesn't believe in himself, it seems. His body language suggests to me that he's not confident and not happy, which is the same that many others his age show in everyday life. Maybe he's just not cut out for AFL footy. Maybe he'll give the game away and travel the world at 21 years of age.Whatever it is, it just ain't working.

Edwards and Reiwoldt had "the vibe" at times, much more than their mates who have been in the system longer.

Schulz is finished at Richmond for mine. Meyer has ability but has lost his confidence. I tuned out at half time coz the match was rubbish and no one was showing anything. Edwards should be playing in the seniors, Riewoldt also needs to be given another go for his future development. Kingsley should retire on Monday and as theres been no appearance from Knoble either he should join him in retiring.

Roosters' best too good for Coburg
June 24, 2007 | The Age | Sean Cusick

NORTH Ballarat has finally strung two victories together, beating Coburg yesterday by 20 points in a tough and disciplined display.

Despite looking one of the danger teams this year, the Roosters have struggled with consistency, with a vast difference between their best and worst.

But they looked super impressive against a Coburg outfit that beat them by three goals in round two and was boosted yesterday by the return from injury of regular Richmond ruckman Troy Simmonds.

North ran hard, was always at the bottom of the packs and withstood a final-quarter fightback by slamming on three unanswered goals.

North had all the play early, but struggled in front of goals with 2.7. After the Tigers kicked two late goals, they had levelled the scores at the first break.

The Roosters gained ascendancy with Djaran Whyman and Ben Hughes both kicking two goals in the second quarter as the margin swelled to 23 points early in the third. But the Tigers kept coming and, when Alistair Neville bounced one through from outside 50, the three-quarter-time difference was just nine points.

Kent Kingsley had a chance to take the lead 10 minutes into the final quarter when he marked within range, but came unstuck with an errant short pass. The quick North rebound saw small forward Stephen Dinnell set up a Robbie Gregg goal that sealed the win for the home side.

The Roosters were rock-solid in defence, with Kangaroo defender Kasey Green providing run and carry out of the danger zone.

At full-back, captain Shaune Moloney contributed yet another inspirational four-quarter performance.

For Coburg, Neville worked feverishly and Jack Riewoldt was good in the air and unselfish in front of goal.

Simmonds chance for Richmond recall
24 June 2007   Sunday Herald Sun
Howard Leigh

TIGER Troy Simmonds ... made [a] successful comeback from injury in the VFL seniors ... at North Ballarat yesterday.

Simmonds, 28, successfully negotiated 60 minutes of football after being sidelined with a serious ankle injury since the Round 6 match against Geelong.

Staking a claim for a recall for Saturday night's clash against St Kilda at Telstra Dome, he amassed 11 possessions, six handballs, six marks and 15 effective hitouts.

But his return was not enough to lift the Coburg Tigers to victory over North Ballarat, the home side winning 16.16 (112) to 13.14 (92).

"I felt really good and I didn't feel any pain from my right ankle, which I fractured during preseason in January," Simmonds said. "Hopefully, I will get a game next week."

Simmonds said there was a positive feeling in the rooms before the game in the wake of Richmond's Friday night win against the Demons.

"All the boys were feeling good, but we were not able to translate it out on the field," he said.

"We were too undisciplined and gave away too many free kicks."

Coburg coach Andy Collins said he had no doubt Simmonds would quickly claim a place back in the Richmond side.

"He was a dominant big man on the ground," Collins said. "I'm sure if we had him on the field for the duration of the game it might have been a different result."

Richmond first-year player Jack Riewoldt, 18, had 23 possessions and 13 marks after starting at centre half-back and moving into the forward line.

Discarded Richmond forward Kent Kingsley finished with 3.1 from nine possessions at full-forward, but made a crucial turnover 11 minutes into the final quarter when his side was three points behind and had all the momentum.

Ahhhh the ole "bag then brag" line. Happy to bag the crap out of a player but then happy to brag about him too.

nothing personal xXx but i just hate it when people roll out this line. Its like a strong argument against something with conviction and vindication but then the whole argument gets thrown out the door when you say "oh but im glad to be proven wrong" ?????????

Should never been drafted in the first place, should of taken a young kid instead. Have said from day one he is no good!
As for Schultz , shouldnt be on the Richmond list,  1 game doesnt make a career.( Brisbane game kicked 6 a few years ago-done nothing since other to get in Richos ways)

Funny thing about Kingsley though, i was on holidays in QLD last November and bumped into an assistant coach from Geelong. He said after a few beers that is was laughable that Kingsley would get picked up again as he said he was finished at AFL level and actually struggled for Geelong 2nds during the year (2006). Said that his kicking had got worse but his biggest problem that he had very little core strength and was easily pushed aside in marking contests.

Was an absolutely shocking game. Fortunately I've finally managed to defrost ;D

The lack of discipline was terrible.

Dan Connors may have taken mark of the year but big deal. His lack of accountability and resepct to his opponent and his lack of discipline was unacceptable

Danny Meyer - I don't know if it is a confidence thing maybe it goes the other way - perhaps Danny thinks he is too good to be playing VFL. He should take a leaf out of Jack's book and learn to bust his guts. Fancy letting Tommoy roach run off you  :P

Actually perhaps Danny and Jay should just look at Simmo - went out there to play and did what he should have done - and looked heads and shoulders above everyone else but more importantly looked like he wanted to be there

Carl Peterson - saw part of the ressie game. Getting better all the time - just needs games in the legs I reckon. Would have been a good test for him the ground was quite heavy under foot

JON - ....... Seems they mainly went on his very clean hands, athleticism and lightning pace. Sorry for being harsh and it's not his fault he was chosen a pick 8 but top 10 picks shouldn't have question marks over their kicking.

.

pace, what pace, everyone talks up about how fast he is and meantto be faster than deledio, but we never ever see him use his pace, starting to even doubt if he has pace
JON showed it against Essendon in the Dreamtime game last year when he left everyone for dead to kick that winning point. We probably won't see much of it this year as he had no preseason due to shin splints.

Hey WP, you mention about Danny and Jay should have a look at Simmo, the difference is that Simmo is an accomplished AFL player, the other 2 are VFL players who wont make the tranistion to AFL.

Good enough reason to have look at Simmo I would think Jack

Would think that Simmo would be straight with Danny and Jay seeing the season out and Coburg.
Anyway, just watching the Saints and Kosi is flying.

WTF, they have been a rabble for most of the year but are playing superbly tonight. I'd say it would have to do with Harv's 350th but that would be an understatement  ;)

Have u ever said that about Richmond....
And then again, seeing you seem to be the guru of all that is AFL, why aren’t you coaching.

Maybe the reason some sides are not as good as they could be, is because they have people like you on the payroll.

NO poo you pee me off....

Wasnt bad actually, although the Demons were pretty bad.
Good thing about the tiges is that we outcoached the Demons and we moved the ball quick and continued to play fast transition football for most of the game. When we play tempo footy and slow the game down, it plays into the oppossition hands and they then get numbers back and our players arent skilled enough by foot to hit up targets inside F 50 when congested..
Interesting as well is that Brown can kick to the advantage of the player that he is kicking too. His skills are silky , It also shows up the lack of skills of his team mates who continue to miss hit -up targets

Brown actually made Richo run to a couple of spots in which he wasnt intending to lead to. Brown is an absolute gun and has a great football brain. He knew that he could get Richo running to to his advantage by kicking to certain spots.

Really thinks quick and sums up the situation very quickly  :thumbsup

Match Report Vs. North Ballarat
coburgtigers.footballvic.com.au

Coburg traveled to Austar Arena on Saturday to take on North Ballarat. It was the second time this season the two sides had met, the first going the Burgers way by three goals.

It was another cold day at Ballarat, although there was no breeze at all and according to the locals it was the nicest day of the week. The ground was in a muddy but serviceable condition, but throughout the match players constantly lost their feet on the spongy surface. Although it wasn’t always shown on the scoreboard, North Ballarat seemed to have control of the game for the entire match, and ran out 20 point winners.

1st Quarter

Al Neville gave the Burgers the perfect start as he snapped the first of the match within 90 seconds, only to see the Roosters kick two of their own in quick succession. Ballarat controlled the play for the next fifteen minutes but erratic kicking at goal saved Coburg as the Roosters kicked seven straight points. Jack Riewoldt and Daniel Connors were fantastic in the back half and collected 19 touches between them in the first quarter. Kelvin Moore kicked a tricky goal from the boundary, followed by a similar goal from Schultz late in the term to level the scores at the early break. North Ballarat had dominated the play; as the nine scoring shots to four suggests, but their conversion was atrocious.

¼ Time: Coburg 3.1 (19) North Ballarat 2.7 (19)

2nd Quarter

Joe Gazzo snapped an early goal for the Burgers, but controversial free kicks to the Roosters allowed them to hit back with two goals; similar to what happened in the first term. Kent Kingsley snagged two important goals for the quarter; both were excellent kicks on the run from outside 50m. However Coburg tempers began to flare as Ballarat kicked their third goal of the quarter courtesy of free kicks. Jarrod Silvester was fantastic deep in defence as he continuously marked the incoming Rooster kicks and he was well supported by Riewoldt, who stood tall in his role at Centre Half Back.
Kelvin Moore kicked his second late in the quarter to put the Burgers within eleven points at the main break.

½ Time: Coburg 7.4 (46) North Ballarat 8.9 (57)

3rd quarter

The Roosters came out firing and kicked two early goals, before Joe Gazzo ended a chain of handballs with Coburgs first for the quarter. 18 year old Shane Edwards was dynamic in the third term; his pace and skill excited the small crowd kept Coburg from slipping further behind. He set up Hartigan for a goal and created other opportunities that Coburg unfortunately didn’t take advantage of.

Al Neville’s fantastic work rate was rewarded in a goal to himself as he gathered the ball in the backline and kept running to get it back and kick accurately to put the Burgers only seven points down late in the term. Although Simmons and Graham dominated in the ruck, Ballarat’s midfield seemed to read the taps well and had dominated the clearances 14-7 at three quarter time.

¾ Time: Coburg 10.10 (70) North Ballarat 11.13 (79)

4th Quarter

After an early Rooster goal; Kingsley and Riewoldt goaled for the Burgers to put them within three points, and you got the feeling that the Burgers were about to run away with the game like they have done many times so far this season. However Hartigan and Kingsley missed opportunities from inside 50m and Ballarat punished them by running forward and kicking quick multiple goals to put the margin out of Coburg’s reach.

Jarrod Sylvester was brilliant at full back and took many contested marks for the match. Angus Graham won the ruck all day and was well supported by Troy Simmons who made a positive comeback and will only get better. Jack Riewoldt was again very solid at Centre Half Back, and moved forward in the second half and took multiple contested marks.
Coburg are back at home next week and face Port Melbourne in a tough match on Sunday 1st July.
