Title: Luke Hodge a Tiger in 2005
Post by: PuntRdRoar on July 29, 2004, 03:29:42 PM
Everywhere I go...im hearing the same thing...Luke Hodge will be a tiger in 2005. The tigers apparently want to pick up the young uncontracted hawk for free in the PSD and supposedly Hodge wants to do what he always wanted to do as a kid...and thats play for the tigers. If its true...then our recruiting bounty should be plentiful come years end...picks 2 and 4 and 20 and 36= should see us pick up 2 quality young kids plus another two high potential players plus Hodge....let the rebuilding continue! :cheers

Mmm im starting to warm to this hodge character aswell. Has much more agro then both ball and judd but hodge is less talented then the 3. I remember hodge was going to bed an absoulote gun. He was like pettifer is at this stage which is good as a kid but struggling now. But i think with a new club and he will play with passion we could be very satisfied. part of our midfield rotating and another goal kicking midfielder. god this is getting exciting but i dont want to trade to get hodge. Cause that will be gay cause we will have to give up alot. I would rather get him for free in the psd. Please i wish.

As long as we only try to pick him up in the PSD or swap him for a Chaffey or Fiora say then go for it. But if we can only get him by giving up a draft pick then forget it. He a talented player, is still young and Hawthorn seem to have raps on him as a natural leader however he has missed a number of games through injury. The latter is what concerns me over Hodge. That's why I'm reluctant to give away a draft pick in exchange for him. The best scenario is obviously getting him for free in the PSD.

Won't happen... Phil Mc doesn't rate him, and nor do I for that matter.

He'll be a much better player once he has the Hawthorn knocked out of him. :thumbsup

This one's on a plate for Miller.  Let's see how good he is.  He must have a word to Hodge and encourage him to nominate for the PSD.

I've stated previously that a mate of mine spoke to Hodge last year and he was very surprised how Hodge, being a senior Hawks player, spoke so passionatley about the tigers, and how much he still loves the club.  He also said he would still love to play for us.  He wasn't even drunk.  Whether my mate spiced up the story or not is another issue.

Can anyone confirm whether there is a rule within the AFL that would stop the Hawks re-drafting Hodge in the PSD if he refused to sign and nominated ?

Can confirm it

That's the rule HarryH.

An uncontracted player cannot be re-drafted by his former club once he nominates for the pre-season draft.

I actually rate hodge...why

1) shows leadership
2) still very young- will play for another 10 years
3) outstanding razor like disposal...very clean...especially coming off half back or in the middle
4) has a fair amount of mongrel too..

PS- Miller has always said that he wants 2 or 3 players who have a touch of the mongrel in them...he wants leaders...thats why he wanted solomon...Hodge is a better play. If he comes for free in the PSD we should all be wrapt...also...Greg Miller has stated that you always target clubs in crisis to get your players from... Hodge fits every single Greg Miller criteria!

Being able to pick up a ready made yet high quality and young midfielder for nothing with Cambo sadly on his last legs would be a major bonus for us.

If we scored Hodge and given we're still possibly an outside(?) chance of getting Travis Cloke via the F/S, we potentially this year could pick up 5 top 20 draft players in one draft (3 of which would be top 5 picks). That would be amazing if we are good enough to pull it off.

Some Hawk supporter rang up KB this morning saying he was concerned over rumours of Hodge leaving. Both Donald McDonald and Dunstall both said they want Hodge to remain at Hawthorn but didn't state that Hodge himself said he wants to stay a Hawk.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE LUKE HODGE IN A TIGER JUMPER THE HAWKS RATE HIM  :lol

The Hawks rate him highly and are prepared to give him the carrot of being the next captain to pursuade him to stay.  The Hawks are pooting themselves and know there's a massive chance he will walk.

Greg - Go for the jugular !!

Does anyone know Millers email address.  I think a little friendly email won't go astray.

Oh well  :-\

It wouldn't surprise me though if Miller still had a shot at him after last year's effort of flying all the way to London to try and get Solomon to Tigerland. A chance to get a quality player for nothing appears as often as Haley's comet.

Ahhh welll we cant take everything from the Hawks!

I have a feeling we won't miss him. Hasn't done much to suggest he'll be anything more that a peripheral player. Been getting 15 touches a game this year with plenty of time in the midfield.

Oh well. Hawks got in just as we began sniffing.

Who else is possibly available for the PSD? Luke Ball still hasn't re-signed yet but I can't see him leaving the Saints just as they are peaking. Plus he would demand top dollar.

Luke Hodge was NEVER going to leave the Dawks !
Some people must of been on medication and strong medication at that!

i would imagine perhaps miller was sniffing around so the hawks had to be proactive, "the don" would have had a field day if they cocked it up.

its important to let it be known out there that we are constantly looking at ways to improve our lists, as other clubs are also but i reckon having miller playing the game for us it could be making some of these other clubs a bit toey.

ahh just like the old days, i wonder if miller picked up some of his methods from the master. graeme richmond.
