Title: What Number did they wear
Post by: WilliamPowell on December 04, 2007, 08:04:42 PM
One of the great things about Rhett's new book is it gives a complete list of all players who've played for the Tigers and the numbers they've worn.

So let's see how well you know your numbers

Which numbers did the following players wear (all had more than 1 number)

Chris Pym
Peter Wilson
Byran Wood
Jeff Hogg
Cameron Clayton

and

Jack Dyer (senior)

Don't have the book yet WP but Christmas is around the Corner.............
Anyway I'll take a stab as 4 of them I know as I have seen them play.
Pym was number 51 who could forget his 1988 match winning last quarter on a Friday nite against Carlscum. What number he went to do not know.
Wood wore number 16 I think he may have had 43 before that?
Wilson wore 19 I think he went to 5 after that. Famously cartwheeled in the Chris Pym match at the final siren in 1988 against Carlscum.
Hoggy wore 48 when he first arrived then Steven Ryan took it over. Then Hoggy went to number 34.
Cameron Clayton I have no idea what era he played let alone the number he had.  :gotigers

I think Jack Dyer wore 30 in his first game where he spent either the entire game on the bench or had a very minimal run against North which to this day is still our greatest winning margin over any side. 168 points to be exact. There is a famous photo from his first game where he is running down the race and some bloke in a coat and hat is pointing at him like he was some kind of odditty. He went to number 17 for the remainder of his career after that.

Cameron Clayton is a very very obscure one. Good job WP way to stump the masses :thumbsup

You could have asked about Mark Summers Mark Stockdale Mark McQueen or Wayne Shand WP. :lol
From my era.

Princess's other number was worn in the '72 final series and is number .... 37

Of course he then grew a moustache and promptly changed his number to 16, (and because Michael Green rejoined the Tigers after his year off).

The famous dyer pic of him running out from the race and supporter pointing his finger at him, wasnt from his first ever game, but rather was Rd 1 1946 vs Fitzroy and it appears in 'The TIgers: A Century of League Football' on Page 73
