Although it's still just another meaningless practice match, we'll see next week how we go against another bottom 3 opponent. Geelong just played with the Demons like they did with us last year.

Even if the rain stops they should take them the way they drowned against St Kilda.

Hiding from angry Tiger supporters  ;D.

He drives a Ford Falcon btw. Gives Chocco a lift to training.

Perhaps they were just driving back to Punt Rd. The training staff drive their fancy van with press-button gears back and forth from Punt Rd to Vic Park.

Not earth-shattering but I've got a feeling with the longish flight to Cairns that we may take a young side this week (OERites sing out hooray lol). We know already Richo isn't going.

Well if we had of made it to the game that's being played in Canberra I was going to go

As for Cairns - will give it a miss, although we probably will win ;D

And I am sure if that happens people will say - it's only a practice match and doesn't matter ::) And if we lose then the world will stop turning and we'll all fall off :rollin

Kangaroo Ground/Plenty isn't it?
Out near me.

Speaking of which, I lived in Cairns for a year.
Lured by filthy lucre to play footy (and admittedly did FA else but drink,go to the beach and hit on foreign chicks) and my home ground was Cazalys, the very same ground the Tigers are playing at.
Never thought i'd see the day.
The humidity will ensure players will lose about 3kgs during the match, its mind sapping even at night.

missing from the squad are : raines, polak, richarson, jackson, collard, hyde,  putt,  gourdis. seems like all have been rested

conners, edwards,  rance,  Mcguane, meyer, cotchin, graham, thursfield, coughlan. all injured or returning from injuries.

what do you make out of collard, gourdis, and putt not getting a game? are they that far from getting a game. I can understand putt, but not the other two.

I think the hype on Gourdis before the draft was overboard. There are many attributes that are exciting about him (he's a solid big boy) but he is a long-term prospect IMO like Putt. Kicking and endurance need more work for starters. The club obviously want Collard to work more on his fitness at Coburg too.

Thursty is listed there btw. I'm still getting use to his name being up the top at #2 too.

Jacko spent a fair bit of time on the bench in the NAB cup game so maybe he is carrying a niggle (?).

Not sure why Rainesy and Polak aren't there. I wouldn't have thought they would be rested. Unless they've picked up a niggle they could have been dropped based on their form or lack of it last Friday night. I know Plough was encouraging Polly to attack the footy and lead hard at training yesterday and congratulated Polly when he did.

would like to see joel bowden come out of the backline, and have a fresh look that may resemble our backline in the future. i truely beleive thats where terry needs to go, play the young blokes in the key positions and have the older blokes play second fiddle roles. give the young blokes ownership.if it means richo has to play further up the ground to allow our younger blokes to progress, so be it.

Totally agree T03. The above team is just how I think they'll line up. As much as I've been a broken record about wanting Joel to play up forward he's still training in his usual position as a defender.

Agree but that's where Plough is playing him  :-\. Be interesting how the combo of Cleve, Jack and Lids works against a real opponent albeit in just a practice match. They worked well together and looked dangerous in one of the early scratch matches.

from today's Age:

Richmond has added Will Thursfield, Jay Schulz, Matt White, Cleve Hughes and rookie Cameron Howat for its challenge match against Melbourne in Cairns tonight.

Andrew Raines, Graham Polak, Daniel Jackson and rookie Tristan Cartledge have all been rotated out of the side and Mathew Richardson will be attending a wedding.

Melbourne has named Brad Miller, Ricky Petterd, Brent Moloney, first-year player Cale Morton and Aaron Davey. Jeff White, Simon Buckley and Russell Robertson were left out of the side that lost to Geelong last week.

From Dees' forum:

Dees cannot seem to shake the tigers defensive pressure, either in the forward or backline.
---------------------

Good to hear our pressure is better this week. Obviously we are still making mistakes too.

Email update from Demon forum poster

Nathan Brown (yours) is cutting Melb up. Delidio is also having a big one,
my Nephew is very impressed. He cant stop saying how good your Brown is
playing.

We will work on some Richmond jumper numbers to give some sort of run down
later. The boy giving us this info is 19 and does not see too much footy

--------------------------

Sort of contradicts Y&B's summary of Browny and Lids  ???

Turnovers at our forward 50 hurting us but Defence holding up well

JON running too far with the ball and getting run down

Mr T down back - OK as has been Bowden, Tivendale, Tuck,

White on for quarter and went well
Lids Quiet
Jack at FF but ball hardly down there
Hughes OK at CHF
Simmo ruck most of quarter went better than 1st
Loves the way Patto battles for ball
Howat good off HBF
Tambling getting the ball but indecisive running in circles
Petts going very well (caution GDT is Petts Advocate )
Newman not bad
Cat big but slow
said Browny quiet (but Demonology wrapped him)

Crowd about 10,000
hasn't seen Collins but will look out for him this quarter

Demon poster said Newton taken off with a neck brace but hopefully that's only precautionary.

Grandad Tiger's match summary is up on Y&B

http://www.yellowandblack.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=145555&postcount=219

A snippet from it:
For mine, and you can make of it what you will,Petts BOG, Then Mr T about equal with Howat and Newy.
Others were Cleve, Browny, Patto, Jack, Joel, special mention for Mitch's long, long goal.
Browny's bouncing grubber under pressure was magic, Sarge from the pocket out on the 50.
Pett's screamer ( didn't hold it), Cleve's deadly accuracy and excellent marks that led to those goals.
Once they got in the groove everyone lifted, even Big Cat who was shocking early was going well at the end.
Axel was in and under everything.

The moment we lose a game they'll be back  :outtahere.

I still think Howat will struggle in the long-run Ox as he is one-sided like a few Tiges. Modern AFL players need to be good kicks on both sides of the body. Having said that Cam must be the frontrunner now for the rookie promotion to replace Cotchin as none of the other 3 have put their hand up.

Nice of the Ch 7 and 9 news services to not even mention the game. Ch 10 showed one goal (I think it was Sarge's one from 50).

A review from the Tiger-Talk Yahoo email list fom gerrytiger

------------------------------
We got to Cairns last night and my seven year old saw his first tiger
victory.

The game started in scrappy fashion with both teams fumbling and
typically kicking poorly.

The goal kickers that I had were slightly diffrent to those in the
paper. They had raines kicking a goal and I didn't think he played.
The ones i had were.

Pettifer 3
Hughes 2
Schultz 2
Pattison
king
Howat
Foley
Morton
Brown
Riewoldt

I watched lids for the first ten minutes and he unfortunatley did not
get a touch> He alternated with Hughes, Brown and Pettifer between
the goal square and about the 30 m mark.

For the second half of the quarter i watched Tambling and he got
plenty of touches and was running hard to create opportunities. He
was playing on mcDonald and gave him a bath. The other thing I
noticed is that Polo still seems to be troubled by the shoulder
injury. He seemed to favour it even in his running style.

In the second quarter the back line started as Moore, Casserly, King,
Polo, Thurston and Schultz. King could win a B&F one day he just
keeps on running when we have the ball and swutches back to defensive
mode when need be. Sugar and Tive played like quarter backs and were
important link men when going forward. McMahon got plenty of the ball
but his disposal was not as silky as I was hoping. We saw White show
a bit of aggro with a nice kidney punch to one of Melbourne's
aboriginal players. At the end of the quarter i noticed our centre
square players were Sugar, Tivva and Brown.

In the third qaurter the forward line was Schulz< Pettifer, Delidio,
Tivva, McMahon, and hughes. One thing I noticed was the amount of
celebration that went on after we kicked a goal. At least 12 players
would come up and congratulate the goal kicker. I also noticed a fair
bit of encouragement when a mistake was made. When Tiva got caught
with the ball 20m in front of Melbourne's goal White went up to him.

I watched a bit of Patto in this quarter and he gives it his all.
Although reminding me a bit of justin madden. He ran from wing to
wing trying to help to create stuff. H e took a couple of good marks.
In this quarter King continued to run hard out of defence and Foley
had a pearler of a quarter. I did not think he was playing as i did
not see him in the first half. Tiger talker Rohan told me at half
time that Foley was having some work done on his ankle. Morton took a
strong mark and kicked a 60 m goal near the end of the quarter. Just
before 3/4 time there was a break in the game as they took newton off
the ground. The tigers broke into three groups defenders, on ballers
and forwards while melbourne formed one big group. Simmo ran between
the on ballers and the forwards.

The back line at the start of the fourth quarter was King, moore,
Joel, Thurston, White and Silvestor. I was impressed by Casserly in
this quarter. He is bigger than I thought and has some ball getting
and disposal skills. Polo, Axel and Howat spent a bit of time in the
middle. We were much the better team in the last quarter and could
have nearly won by 10 goals. Tuck was strong in the packs, Simmo
looks fit and Brown had his best quarter which included a freakish
goal on the run from the boundary line and missing two set shots.

A quick summary of the players from my (in some cases biased) pont of
view.

Newman (servicable)
Thursfield (seemed to do a defensive job, looks a bit bigger)
Delidio (not a dominant player but all class when he does get the
ball)
Simmo (Nice to have a ruck man back)
Brown (relatively quiet until the last quarter)
Riewoldt (fairly inconspicuos did kick a goal in the last quarter)
Bowden (I think spent a lot of time on the bench, good to see the
defenders clear the ball without always looking for Joel)
McMahon (got plenty of it, in some ways he is a better version of
Howat)
Polo (Still looks to be troubled by his shoulder)
Pettifer (showed some leadership with calling our instructions to
team mates, kicked the three goals)
Johnson (I was impressed by the captain he was in amongst it as we
moved forward and provided a bit a calm in the mad frenzy of moving
forward)
Morton (again i was impressed he did not get a lot of touches but he
is the kind of player who i think could get 8 touches and finish up
with three goals if he does the defensive side of his job well could
be a handy pick up)
Tuck (typical tucky game always hard at)
Schulz (seems lazy to me did kick two 3/4 goals and did kick well
during the game but I was left with the impression that he could do
so much more)
Pattison (he puts in, had a classic comic moment when he decided to
change direction just before kicking the ball, the message got to his
feet but not hios hands and he dropped the ball)
Oakley Nicholls (the only time i noticed him was when he called for
the ball when i could tell he did not really want5 it)
Tambling (good game hopefully he can step up and become a good
midfeild option this year)
Tivendale (i am a Tivva bagger but he went well last night. A bit of
a quarter back performance)
Hughes (started like a house on fire and competed hard but lacks a
bit of self confidence and fire in the belly)
White (quiet)
Silvestor (bigger than I thought he was and formed a good last line
of defence with Tursfield when on the ground)
Casserly (liked his game, looked like he belonged)
Moore (seemed to keep his man quiet)
Foley (quiet in the first half, great second half, adds some spark to
the team)
Collins (did not notice him)
Howat (does get the ball when he is out on his own, kicked a
reasonable goal but i would not expect him to be in the best 22)
King (great game, both defensively and going forward, BOG in my son's
opinion)
