Hartigan claims final Rising Star nomination

Richmond’s Brent Hartigan has capped off a stellar debut season by claiming the final nomination for the National’s AFL Rising Star Award.
The 19 year old, who was Richmond’s fifth selection and no.70 overall at last year’s National AFL Draft, had 22 touches in the final-round clash against Sydney at the MCG on Saturday.
He has spent most of the season playing as a small defender and finished the year having played 19 of 22 games. His effort was all the more impressive given that his start to his first pre-season with the Tigers was delayed by a broken leg.
Hartigan’s father Dean played 36 games with Essendon from 1974 to 1977.
The 2004 National’s AFL Rising Star will be announced on Thursday in Melbourne.

That's great news and well deserved :thumbsup. One thing that stands out about Brent is his awareness and peripheral vision is excellent IMO. Puts his more experienced yet footy "braindead" teammates to shame. Knows how to get his hands on the footy too. I would want him to work a bit on his kicking over summer. It's good but it could be better.
A bargain basement at pick 70 that's for sure. Well done Brent and well spotted Miller :).

It’s even better than that. Three nominations in 2002. Rodan, Cogs and Zantuck. :thumbsup
