Cogs a key for Coburg
richmondfc.com.au
By Tony Greenberg
4:49 PM Wed 03 September, 2008
Mark Coughlan has hit his straps at just the right time for the Coburg Tigers, as they prepare for their 2008 VFL finals campaign.
Coughlan gathered 40 possessions in a dominant display for Coburg in its 102-point demolition of the Bendigo Bombers in last Saturday’s final home-and-away match of the season.
Here’s how Coburg coach, Jade Rawlings, in his weekly, exclusive “Eye of the Tiger” report for Richmond members, described Coughlan’s performance: “Was very clean with his ball-handling, and his skill level right throughout the game was good. Is now running freely and in very good form”.
‘Cogs’ has played the past seven matches in-a-row for Coburg since returning from his severe hamstring problems. He’s gained in confidence with each outing, and has been particularly prominent during the past three games.
Coburg met its opponent in this Saturday’s 2nd elimination final, Frankston, just once during the home-and-away rounds.
That clash took place in Round 12, on Sunday, June 29, with Frankston prevailing by 21 points on its home ground – 13.14 (92) to 11.5 (71).
Coughlan didn’t play that day, nor did Dean Polo, who also has been in excellent touch for Coburg in recent weeks.
“We played them in difficult conditions at Frankston and they basically beat us in one quarter, kicking six goals with the wind, which we never recovered from. They’re a dangerous team, who we certainly respect,” Rawlings said.
The 12-10 rule will apply for Saturday’s cut-throat encounter, meaning Coburg’s line-up can contain no more than 12 Richmond-listed players.
Greg Tivendale, who has had an outstanding season for Coburg, will return to the side following his farewell appearance with Richmond last Sunday, as will Daniel Connors, who also played in the Round 22 match against Melbourne.
Coburg will be further boosted through the inclusion of key midfielder Nick Carnell, who was rested last week, while full-back Jarrod Silvester will undergo a fitness test on his broken hand.
“We’ve played some good, competitive football over the past few weeks, winning five of our last six games,” Rawlings said.
“Our players are combining well together, they’re confident, and we like playing at Port Melbourne (the venue for Saturday’s elimination final).
“We hope Richmond and Coburg supporters will be out in force to watch the boys in action on Saturday . . .”

Will the final series be on ABC2 ?
I'm yet to receive a response to my query regarding why the weekly replays are no longer shown when daily broadcasting has completed and the station is closed other than a reference to a website which was no longer live. Freakin' Muppetts ...

This may sound like a stupid question, but can guys like Collard and Sylvester play? The only reason I ask is because I know of a Rookie listed player at another Victorian club whose season is over because there is a VFL rule regarding players who are out of contract.

I thought it was 12 including rookies going by the 12/10 games during the year but the team for Saturday has 12 senior listed guys plus 3 rookies. Presumably 3 will drop out but hopefully one of them isn't Collard. Gourdis and Collo will probably be 2 of them off the top of my head.
-
Can anyone confirm the 12/10 rule for rookies??????
-
Can anyone confirm the 12/10 rule for rookies??????
Rookies are included in the 12.
Total number of RFC boys who can play for Coburg in the finals is 12.
The 12 includes any player listed by the RFC whether they are senior listed or rookie listed
Hope that helps
-
Hopefully Gourdis plays
-
Hopefully Gourdis plays
I do too but I doubt it. I want to see Collard, Meyer, Cogs and Gourdis play on the ABC this week to guage their potential.
Stripes
-
I think Gourdis may miss as he is named on the bench but like you Stripes I'm looking forward to seeing how the others go plus Rance. Hopefully a few of them have a great VFL finals series like Kel did last year which they can build upon over summer and break into the RFC side in 2009.
-
Noticed Collard :thumbsup and Hughes as they ran out.
-
RFC 12: Meyer, Polo, Rance, Tivs, Connors, Hughes, Collard, Graham, JON, Howat, Cartledge, Cogs
Connors pinged for deliberate ::). Limbach gets a goal from the free.
0 - 6

Txt from bg25:
Coburg ressies got thrashed in their first loss for the year.
Cass, Gourdis and Collins played.
-
RFC 12: Meyer, Polo, Rance, Tivs, Connors, Hughes, Collard, Graham, JON, Howat, Cartledge, Cogs
No Jackson?
-
Nup.
Cogs playing forward. Nat Caruso gets it to him. Goal.
7 - 6
-
Strange.
Thanks o-e for the updates.
Have to wait for 90 minute delay because of the local hockey here. :banghead :scream
-
Connors does the fake and go gets to inside 50 but touched on the line as he tried to guide it through.
Meyer to the danger spot. Battle for the ball spills out from Gus to Collard who snaps a goal :gotigers.
14 - 6
-
Strange.
Thanks o-e for the updates.
Have to wait for 90 minute delay because of the local hockey here. :banghead :scream
Bugger.
Heard a rumour during the week that Jacko wouldn't play.
Great play by the Burgers from the kick-in. Got it through the zone and 15 secs to get it down to Hughes. Goal :gotigers
20 - 7
-
Great tackle in the centre gets the ball forward again. Fort crumbs a goal from the pack :gotigers
26 - 7
-
Great tackle in the centre gets the ball forward again. Fort crumbs a goal from the pack :gotigers
26 - 7
Awesome, go Burgers! :clapping :clapping
-
The Dolphins get one back from the centre clearance. Frankston have the breeze. 1-2 goal.
Horne bad kick across the ground but Frankston doesn't make us pay.
Good play by McErlain while getting crunched to Fort to Collard. Point.
27 - 14
-
Polo's kick inside 50 is too high for Cleve. Fort pinged for diving on it. Frankston run it down for a point.
Clifton spoils his own Coburg man Liddle in defence :-\ but no damage.
Good run out of defence by Coburg but we stalled in the middle refusing to kick long and the turnover results in a Frankston goal.
McErlain injured and off the ground due to his shoulder that got crunched but he should be okay.
27 - 21
-
Argh got to wake up again Burgers.
Well I got to go.
The game will be taped and I expect a win. :rollin :pray
:gotigers
-
Falling down up forward. Apart from the two crumbing goals everytime we go long to 20m out the ball is cleared by frankston. A bit too predictable at the moment.
27 - 22
-
Quarter time:
Coburg 4.3-27
Frankston 3.4-22
Goals: Hughes, F.Caruso, Collard, Cogs
A quarter of two halves. More possessions to us 91- 65 and Rhys-Jones saying we should be further in front.
Howat 9
JON 7
Connors got a bit of it too.
Polo doing a good tagging job.
Cartledge winning the taps.
Limbach having the better of Rance :-\. 2.1 he's kicked for Frankston.
-
Rawlings seemed contented in the huddle. Thought we overhandballed, played on when we didn't have to and went wide towards the end of the quarter and just need to refine our use of the footy. He was happy with our defenders and JON across HF. We've pushed Gus forward with Cleve and JON this qtr with a small at their feet. He asked the rucks about tapping it out further from the circle given our dominance in the ruck.
We've got the breeze this quarter.
Howat free 70m out. Nice pass to position on the fat side to Cleve. Goal :gotigers
33 - 22
-
Horne good mark going back with the flight over to Shelton to Tivs to JON and a good long kick over the top to Cleve who read the ball better. His 3rd Goal :gotigers
39 - 22
-
Collard spins out of the traffic and gets another :gotigers
45 - 22
-
Soft Free to frankston but Meyer picks it off. Should have been a free to Collard for the Frankston player dragging it in but nup. Up then picks a free to Tivs (bronx cheers from Tiger fans) who gets it to Gus. Point.
46 - 22
-
Ump pays free down the ground to Frankston but pays 50m as it's a greater advantage to frankston. Players have no idea what's going on. Goal to frankston.
46 - 28
-
Nat Caruso came through like a train and nailed to frankston players in tackles :clapping. Collard goes for the speccie but Frankston clears.
Ball comes in again and Cleve gets it over to collard but he slips as he tries to get around a Dolphin and frankston clear again.
Shelton long in again. Fort at full pace roves and dodges from the pack and goals :clapping. Watch that on the tape TA.
52 - 28
-
Inside 50s: 27 - 14
Caruso nails another Dolphin. Tivs misses from 50m on the run.
53 - 28
-
Connors lovely kick to Hughes on the lead again. 50m for hit in the bakc of head. His 4th goal :gotigers
59 - 29
-
Tivs from 65m. Point.
60 - 29
McErlain has a AC shoulder problem and won't be back on.
-
Frankston run it down for a goal.
60 - 35
-
Any chance we could add the Caruso boys to the senior list? ;D They're rippers :clapping
-
Plough watching on the mobile in a white sweater, black sunnies and a receding hairline lol.
A chain of handballs from Horne ends up with Tivs over to Fort who had run from HB. Goal :gotigers
66 - 35
-
Half-time
Coburg 4.3 10.6-66
Frankston 3.4 6.5-41
Goals: Hughes 4, F.Caruso 3, Collard 2, Cogs
Coburg should be further in front actually.

Coburg Tigers: Huy Foster Davis Lynch Farrelly Gourdis
Williamstown: Boyd Cravino Boumann Cartelli Langlands Beaumont
As mentioned earlier Gourdis, Cass and Collins played in the ressies final.

Caruso boys took their b-b-b-becora today. On fire.
Cleve the best forward on the ground. Good leads rewards with good passes to him.
Cartledge and Gus dominating the ruck hitouts. Gus hasn't done much up forward though when he's been up there.
Cogs' inside work has been very good. Able to still dish off a handball to the right free man while being tackled.
Howat and Tivs been getting plenty of it.
Polo has tagged Frankston's best mid out of the game. Only got away from him a couple of times.
Meyer's been solid. Broke out of a couple tackles too.
JON solid as well. Not as noticable as in the first qtr. Looked like he was playing across HB that qtr.
Rance a bit quiet. Moved forward in that quarter and his body work allowed the ball to spill to Collard who goaled.
Connors - fairly solid. He's better when he sticks to doing the basics.
JON 9, 5 marks
Tivs 10
Hughes 5 possies,
Most high possession getters have been Burger boys - Horne, Shelton, Caruso boys, Liddle.
-
Connors good run through the centre but kick wasn't good enough inside 50. Frankston have had 2 shots for just a point. Another shot is a goal. Berry the frankston player runs back to Polo to tell him about it and it's a big melee. Nat Caruso reported for striking and it's a free to frankston. Miss.
66 - 49
Frankston player now reported and free to Coburg.
-
Another goal to Frankston. Coburg needs to settle down and not lose the plot.
66 - 56
-
Horne poor handball - turnover results in another frankston goal.
66 - 62
-
Umps pulls a free against Coburg for a throw in the centre. Coburg clear from defence but Koegh kicks it OOTF.
Gus goes for the mark instead of punch but it's a point to the Dolphins.
66 - 63
Coburg doing a lot of dumb things under pressure.
-
Umps pulls a free against Coburg for a throw in the centre.
Terrible decision, it was stripped out of Cogs hands and the ump called it a throw
-
Another Frankston player reported off the ball. But we turn it over again and Frankston go forward again. Miss. Tivs handball intercepted but another miss.
66 - 65
-
Inside 50s: 2 - 12 this qtr
Terry in the Everlast white sweater being interviewed by Cleary. Praising Cleve for his game from our point of view.
Frankston go forward again from the stoppage. Meyer on their big forward. Miss. Rance kicks it OOTF from full back. Miss but frankston now in front.
66 - 67
-
Tivs runs hard to do a 1-2 and gets it to Howat inside 50 40m out. Point. scores level.
67 - 67
-
Good tackle by Connors. Gets the free 70m out. Gets it to Cartledge inside 50 (unlucky not to get 50). Badly needed Goal :gotigers. Coburg back in front
73 - 67
-
Rance did brilliantly running at full pace along the wing but his kick was poor and Tivs gets pinged for illegal disposal in the tackle.
Coburg gets it back Hughes is pinged for hands in the back.
Cartledge kicks it OOTF when there were 3 Burgers in the corridor.
frankston get a goal to level the scores.
73 - 73
-
Another down field free to frankston ::)
BS holding the ball decision. What chance umpire when he is immediately tackled ::)
-
Coburg player going only one going for the ball and he gets pinged ::)
Connors tries to take them all on and turns it over. Frankston set shot. Goal.
73 - 79
-
Collard misses the snap.
74 - 79
-
Another goal to frankston.,
74 - 85
-
Hooray we got a free ::)
OMG we got another free. Caruso goals.
80 - 85
-
3/4 time
Coburg 4.3 10.6 12.8-80
Frankston 3.4 6.5 12.13-85
Goals: Hughes 4, F.Caruso 4, Collard 2, Cogs, Cartledge
-
The old sucker punch of Frankston starting a blue and then Coburg trying to even up the fight instead of going for the ball. Simple Frankston wanting it more, being first in and playing K.I.S.S. footy long and direct with the breeze.
Disposals
Horne 20
Shelton, Liddle and Carusos still with most of the footy for Coburg.
....
Jon 14
Cart 14
Collard 11
Polo 10
-
Inside 50s that qtr: 9 - 18
-
Connors over to Shelton hb to Cogs hb to Howat in the centre to collard 35m out. Goal. Back in front :gotigers
86 - 85
-
Fort kicks a point.
87 - 85
-
Howat to Nat Caruso inside 50. Point.
88 - 85
-
Cartledge marks the kick-in. Called to play and Connors leaps high to mark. 40m out. Goallllllll :gotigers
94 - 85
-
Connors pinged for a throw in front of the ump. Point to Frankston.
94 - 86
-
Coburg clear from the kick-in but Clifton is knocked as he kicks so the ball drops short and frankston run it up for a goal.
94 - 92
-
Great chase down by Horne :clapping.
Frankston get it again but Gus marks on the last of defence.
Falling down going forward again and Franskton get it to Limbach - point.
94 - 93
-
Geez we're trying to give Frankston the game :banghead. Another Dolphin 20m clear inside 50 :scream.
94 - 99
-
How many times have we handballed to a hot teammate who gets immediately tackled :banghead.
We get it forward but give away a high tackle :scream.
Cogs gets it back to Shelton and chips it to Cartledge who slips inside 50 40m out. OOTF.
-
Keogh kicks it to nobody inside defensive 50 ??? and Frankston get it to Limbach who hits the post.
Howat kicks it OOTF from FB. Point.
94 - 101
-
A chain of handballs from the kick-in get it to HF but then we go backwards and stuff it up.
Howat misses after sheer willpower by Polo.
95 - 101
-
Umps have given Frankston a charity ride today. Two BS decisions ::).
-
So that wasn;t deliberate umpire ::)
Siren . Lost by a goal >:(.
-
Season over
Does Jade Rawlings have any emotion in his body. compare the 3 quarter time address of lovett to that of Jade's.
FFS get rid of him, he is useless.
JON and Howatt have shown why they will never be AFL players.
Tivers and cogs needed to stand up in the last and did nothing, nada.
-
Full time
Coburg 4.3 10.6 12.8 14.11-95
Frankston 3.4 6.5 12.13 14.17-101
Goals: Hughes 4, F.Caruso 4, Collard 3, Cogs, Cartledge, Connors
-
Agree that Rawlings should go, Coburg played inconsistent and undisciplined footy all year since Andy Collins left
I thought JON was good today though
Cogs kicked 2 by the way one-eyed
Polo was crap I thought, Hughes had pretty much no chances in the 2nd half, the delivery out of the midfield was rubbish
-

Polo starting that fight which kick started the Frankston revival. Well done Dean :thumbsup.
JON was okay but seriously if he cant dominate a VFL game then why he is clogging up a spot on our list. get rid of him.
Howatt--hahahahaha. How an idiot like that is kicking out of defence is beyond me.
Rawlings coaches and conducts himself like a man who couldn't care less. if i was listening to him at 3 quarter time i would seriously consider grabbing a pillow and falling asleep. Boring as all get out.
-

Well, you could use the pillow in your mouth!
what did he actually say that was so boring?
Nothing, thats my point.
Lovett's 3 quarter time address was uplifting mate. I knew that Coburg would lose when i heard that.
Rawlings coached like he knows his papers are already marked.
-
Cogs kicked 2 by the way one-eyed
I thought that was a mistake by ch 2. They had Cogs with 2 goals and Collard 1 at half-time when Collard had kicked 2. I'll stand corrected if it's the other way around.
-
Cogs definitely kicked 2 goals
The one in the first quarter when he marked inside 50 from a kick from one of the Carusos (I think Nat)
Then a snap goal after a handpass from Collard
-
Is that Coburg's season done and dusted?

Yep for the seniors. It was an Elimination final ;).
Coburg ressies play in the 1st Semi final next week. If they lose that they'll go out in straight sets after going through the season undefeated :o.

At Coburg or Richmond? Some RFC guys played their last game today and not just the retiring Tivs you would think.
-
Daniel i am interested to see if you have been to any Coburg games this year?
Would think unless you are involved in the club that it is very hard to have any idea on what type of coach Rawlings is.
Sure you can have an opinion, but it doesnt mean that its right. :wallywink
-
The Coburg boys at least tried despite their deficiencies. I thought many of the RFC guys let the side down willing to do the fancy stuff but not the hard running, hard tackling and team things when the pressure went on. Hard to find a RFC guy who stood up in the second half. Losing McErlain also seemed to totally put our structure out of whack with no Silvester either. Meyer had to go back on the Frankston's key forward Clark who then got away from us. We lacked a second forward marking target with Cleve our only winner but he was shut down as we went handball ring-a-rosy under the pressure. We also seemed to run out of puff with only 3 rotating on the bench. We looked like we would run over then in the last when we kicked the first couple of goals going long and direct but then stopped and went back to ring-a-rosy handball and working the wings. Notably with 2 minutes to go they were all RFC guys including Connors who I reckon was dragged for trying to be a prima donna.
Just so disappointing. A game of two halves which was Coburg all season. Up and down in form from week to week. Frankston simply wanted it more today and we got sucked into the off the ball stuff instead of just focussing on the footy first.
I'm suprised Jacko didn't play today even though he was eligible. Were we saying that those who played today were fighting to keep their spot on the RFC list. Apart from Cleve, I reckon there will be some very nervous RFC guys after today.
-
Look I dont want to take a pot shot at Rawlings but why Meyer at FB. Wouldnt Rance for example have provided a better match up. Just asking thats all.
-

Rance was on Limbach. Had a poor game too apart from a couple of runs.
-
Gourdis shouldve played. At either end, he wouldve been handy. Dumb non-selection.
-
12-10 rule was in place, which player from Richmond would you have dropped?
It would have been a hard call.
Collins was stiff to miss out on the ones today.

Finally given up on getting TW the flick, daniel, and started on Rawlings? I think he talks quite well and a coach should not have to rev up his side of 12 afl listed players to beat a non-aligned side :-[ And by the way Jon and Howat have already been AFL players, so i guess your call of them never being one is a little incorrect.
-

i have been to only 4 or 5 Coburg games. Does that satisfy you?
I never said my opinion is right but we were unstoppable under that collins and now we have gone backwards.
He is soft that Rawlings get rid of him. Yes thats my opinion
i heard the 3 quarter time address of Lovett. Damm it made me want to get out there.

Tiger comes good
Howard Leigh | September 07, 2008
INJURY-troubled Richmond midfielder Mark Coughlan has taken a giant step towards resurrecting his AFL career with an eye-catching performance for the Coburg Tigers.
In yesterday's VFL elimination final against Frankston, the 26-year-old had 24 disposals and booted two goals in his most compelling hitout since returning midseason from intensive treatment in Munich for a chronic left-hamstring problem.
Despite Coughlan, Frankston turned a half-time deficit of 25 points into a thrilling six-point win - 14.17 (101) to 14.11 (95).
In the other qualifying final, the Casey Scorpions came from behind at three-quarter time to tip the Northern Bullants out of the finals race by five points at Casey Fields.
Frankston coach Brett Lovett dismissed talk his side had become giant killers.
"I wouldn't say we were underdogs going into the game," he said. "We beat Coburg earlier in the season and believed we could do it again."
Frankston half-forward Marcus Marigliana was reported for allegedly headbutting and centre half-forward Michael Lourey for striking during a wild third-quarter brawl involving 30 players.
Coughlan, who has not played an AFL game since Round 12, 2006 following two knee reconstructions and ongoing hamstrings problems, said he was contracted to Richmond for next season.
"I have no hiccups recently and been able to train during the week," he said. "I plan to have a big pre-season leading into next year."
Yesterday's game also represented the final curtain for 188-game Richmond midfielder Greg Tivendale, who was delisted at Punt Rd last week.
"It's disappointing to go out like this, but give credit to Frankston -- they are a really solid side," he said.
Tivendale intends nominating for the 2009 AFL national draft.
Coburg coach Jade Rawlings said he and his players respected the non-aligned Frankston side.
"They thrive on their spirit and toughness. Good luck to them, they were too good for us," he said.
Coburg's best were ruckman Tristan Cartledge, who had 17 touches, took six marks and had 22 effective tapouts, and forwards Cleve Hughes and Fort Caruso, who each booted four goals.
Lovett was pleased with input of midfielders Toby Conroy, who had 32 touches, Dan Keely (23) and defender Anthony Raso (22 disposals).
"Keely has only played six games and he ran hard," Lovett said.
Former Richmond and Williamstown full-forward Dean Limbach kicked four opportunistic goals in a fascinating duel with Alex Rance.

From what i saw,all of it,Cogs has a heart the size of Pharlap but that's it.....
How can he possibly compete at the level required in AFL when he can't star under these circumstances?

Does Jade Rawlings have any emotion in his body. compare the 3 quarter time address of lovett to that of Jade's.
FFS get rid of him, he is useless.
JON and Howatt have shown why they will never be AFL players.
Tivers and cogs needed to stand up in the last and did nothing, nada.
Finally given up on getting TW the flick, daniel, and started on Rawlings? I think he talks quite well and a coach should not have to rev up his side of 12 afl listed players to beat a non-aligned side :-[ And by the way Jon and Howat have already been AFL players, so i guess your call of them never being one is a little incorrect.
read it again and slowly you silly man.
JON and Howatt will NEVER be AFL players. They are VFL players at best and any game they played for the RFC were of VFl standard.
they are a joke.
as for Wallace not giving up just yet, although it might be better to see how he goes the first 6 games next year. He is useless and weak and we will not make it to top 4 with him as our coach. Top 8 perhaps.
I dont want to pay mr solarium out any more than what we have done already. Let him earn every cent.
so tell me your happy with what Rawlings has done this year at Coburg? Are you?
idiot

Daniel,
Have you ever played/coached aussie rules in any grade? You have consisitently bagged all that is Richmond all year. You always seem to be able to pull a negative out of any situation. One gets the feeling that you would rather see us lose just so as to prove yourself right. it is not difficult to sit in an anonymous cover and talk about how these blokes should get the sack as eventually they will leave and you'll be saying how you predicted it all. And one other thing, don't ever sling poo unless you you want some to come back your way! If you give be prepared to cop some back.
As Mohommed Ali once said, " The empty apple cart makes the most noise." Your apple cart has been empty for a long time!

How old is JON. 26? 28?
FFS he is a top 10 draft pick. Don't delist him untill you give the kid a chance at least before we write him off as anothe Alex Gilmour.

this is going to offend some people but im sorry to say i have bagged everything RFc is a disgraceful comment.
are you a fu.kwit? actually dont answer that i know you are.
to say i have bagged everything Richmond shows exactly that you have no idea and cannot read english you Illiterate dumb prik.
I only bag the team when idiots like you praise the efforts of sub standard footballers like Patto, Petrified, Schulz, Mcmahon, and captain useless.
i have only got praise for the likes of Richo, Morton, Moore, Lids, Tuck, and even kingy and schulz at times. They try their gutz out week in week out, no question. Bowden had a great last half as did Tucky.
if only we had 22 Richo's we would be top 4 every year.
Schulz showed good promise in some games this year, mcmahon until he performs in big games when the pressure is on i will never be happy with.
So again i ask you go over my posts before you comment on something you have absolutely no fricken idea about it. :clapping

Well seeing that his 3rd qtr address wasnt' shown how would you know what he said?
One of the things about the "addresses" that appear on the ABC is sometimes you miss the best bits ;) If a coach gets out there before the cameras do you don't hear everything. ;)
I've been to most Coburg games and can tell you he is very good at revving the guys up... his address at 3qtr time in the Willi game was amazing
Daniel i am interested to see if you have been to any Coburg games this year?
Would think unless you are involved in the club that it is very hard to have any idea on what type of coach Rawlings is.
Sure you can have an opinion, but it doesnt mean that its right. :wallywink
So true TFL

everyone on here thinks Coburg is as well under him as they did under Collins.
please give me a break

I dont believe that Coburgs primary focus should be winning flags, although that would be good. As far as Im concerned, the primary role of Coburg is to prepare our young players for senior battle down the track. Therefore the decision on whether or not a coach stays or goes at Coburg, shouldnt be based on whether he gives a good rev ... it should be based on how well he has prepared young listed Richmond for senior battle. So the question is - has Rawlings prepared our young listed players properly. Has Conners advanced. Has Rance advanced? Has Collins improved? etc etc. If the answer is yes then I reckon he stays, if not he goes. Thats just my opinion and its probably wrong, but the focus needs to be on Richmond success not Coburg success.

Big job & very hard to coach any side thats alligned with a AFL club
Its easier to coach a non AFL aligned club because you got your players every week & can put more into your planing
l give credit to anyone who takes on the job of coaching clubs like Coburg.
You can plan all week & at the last minute before the game lose vital players to the league club (Richmond)
Even harder when players are dropping back & those that are not 100% fit & playing pushing fit players back to reserves grade, even missing a game that weekend
l'm very surprised Coburg both sides were beaten on the weekend & that some Richmond listed players l'm told put in poor efforts but l wouldnot go blaming a coach of these sides for loses.
Give Jade Rawlings some credit where due, his not one of my favorite coaches, but his task to coach at this level is hard.
What l'm trying to say here is this is why l believe non AFL aligned clubs get a edge on the aligned clubs is that they dont have players trying to out do eachother to make the next level & are focused on the team itself & winning comes more natraul.
Now shoot me for saying this but its just my own opinion.
Conners to me is not a team player & is purely playing for his own glory than playing for the team at times. When l seen him do the team things he plays very well. Someone needs to seriously get him to focus on the team things & he will be a much better player.
l would trade him & try get a early draft pick cause we got many players like him more focused as l dont see him playing alot of games & thats a big call that could backfire at me. He will be the player that will make way for the likes of Raines, Coughlan, Polo,
fire away

You failed to answer my question, have you ever played/slashed coached before? I have been there and done that and therefore have sympathy for anyone who pulls on a jumper and tries to compete at an elite level against another 18 players of elite standing. You need courage just to run onto the ground. I fear you have never played, thus the ignorant questioning of footballers and coaches abilities. Now you are beginning to get a little personal just because someone does not agree with your posts. If you want to call someone an efff wit for not liking your posts then don't put them up. Your apple cart is starting to rattle a bit more louder now!

Match Report 2nd Elimination Final
coburgtigers.com.au
By Glenn Robertson
Coburg travelled over to TEAC Oval in Port Melbourne on Saturday to take on Frankston in a do or die match, with the loser eliminated. Both teams fielded strong sides with their full lists to choose from, but the Burgers were slight favourites heading into the match, even though the Dolphins had beaten them earlier in the year.
After a very entertaining first half of football it seemed as though the Burgers would advance into next weeks semi final. The boys were linking up and running the ball through the centre of the ground with ease, it was a treat for the supporters to watch. But things didn’t go their way in the second half, and Frankston ended the match ahead by a solitary goal.
Both sides showed early nerves as the game got underway, but then steadied to provide the onlookers an entertaining first term. It was goal for goal with the Burgers finishing the quarter with a slender five point lead.
¼ Time: Coburg Tigers 4.3 (27) Frankston 3.4 (22)
Fort Caruso was instrumental in Coburg’s forward line, putting in his best display for the season in a near best on ground display. Fort set up numerous Burger scoring opportunities, picking up the ball and roving packs with ease. The small forward also finished with four creative goals of his own.
The Burgers were outstanding in the second term booting six majors, while keeping the Dolphins to only three. The boys used the ball all over the ground very smartly and took a very healthy twenty-five point lead into the main break.
½ Time: Coburg Tigers 10.6 (66) Frankston 6.5 (41)
Cleve Hughes joined teammate Fort Caruso in kicking four goals for the Burgers in the second half, while Tiger star Mark Coughlan again impressed with twenty-four touches and two majors. Frankston were slowly pegging back the lead when things got extremely heated and a massive brawl broke out. The fight lasted several minutes and involved almost every player on the ground. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Frankston settled first after the big scuffle and turned a twenty-five point half time deficit into a five point lead going into the last change.
3/4 Time: Coburg Tigers 12.8 (80) Frankston 12.13 (85)
Ruckman Tristan Cartledge was very influential in the middle of the ground for the Burgers and won a year high twenty-two ‘effective hitouts’ to his on-ball brigade. Cam Howat was also one of the Burgers best playing off a wing and through the middle of the ground. Nick Liddle and Ben Clifton also put in fantastic efforts that almost got the Burgers over the line. Sadly Frankston kept the lead in the last term, and finished the match in front by six points.
In the end it wasn’t the Burgers who played badly, it was the Dolphins who were just the better side in the second half. All twenty-two Coburg players can hold their heads high, but unfortunately the boys will be on the sidelines now cheering on the Reserves to get across the line this week and then again in the Grand Final.
Coburg Tigers 4.3 10.6 12.8 14.11 (95)
Frankston Dolphins 3.4 6.5 12.13 14.17 (101)
Goal Kickers: F. Caruso 4, C. Hughes 4, M. Coughlan 2, C. Collard 2, T. Cartledge, D. Connors
Best Players: F. Caruso, C. Howat, T. Cartledge, B. Clifton, N. Liddle, D. Polo
RESERVES
After going through the home and away season without dropping a game, the Burger reserves found the tough going on Saturday, as a fired up Williamstown side overcame a half time deficit to record a ten goal win.
Coburg were up by three goals at halftime, although Williamstown had more scoring shots on the board. In the second half Williamstown were just too good.
Nick Lynch was the Burgers only multiple goal kicker with three majors, while Shaun Huy, Steve Foster and Matt Davis were Coburg’s best on the day.
The Burger boys will look to regroup during the week and come out firing against Box Hill on Sunday in the Preliminary final at TEAC Oval. The game starts at 10.20am.
Coburg Tigers 2.2 7.6 8.7 9.10 (64)
Williamstown 2.7 3.13 10.17 18.22 (130)
Goal Kickers: N. Lynch 3, M. Farrelly, J. De Sousa, C. Corr, T. Dulic, G. Carrick, J. Jones
Best Players: S. Huy, S. Foster, M. Davis, N. Lynch, M. Farrelly, D. Gourdis
