Title: Intraclub Game - Thursday Feb 5 @ Gosch's Paddock
Post by: Stripes on January 19, 2009, 07:46:41 PM
I am unsure where to find the information regarding the Intraclub game and the Family Day.

Can anyone tell me when and where these events will be occuring?

Is anyone else hoping to attend these days?

How do you think they will create the 'teams' this year? Probables v Possibles? Older v Younger? etc

Thanking people in advance

With Cousins now on board, I'm guessing both events will attract a lot more attention from supporters and the media alike.

Stripes,

They haven't released details of the Family Day yet.... Usually they announce it at the end of Jan

Stripes

They said at the AGM that Craigieburn would be ready for training in Feb....

Actually I think Craigieburn is relevant to the Family Day as well.

IIRC when they announced the training venue at Craigieburn the RFC said Family day's would be out there

I think they might put those vying for the same position in the same spot (BP, HBF, HFF, FP) on the different teams or even against each other if same it's two mids.

That looks like a couple of pretty even sides there MT. Could be a good game.

I hope they do line up like this, the possibles vs probables always tends to be a pretty one sided affair as you hope it would be. The possibles always looked a bit of a joke in previous years. Though you would probably find the possibles side might be a bit stronger this year. List is developing nicely.

Some really mouthwatering matchups in that match MT particularly Raines/Hislop, Newman/Cousins, Edwards/Bling and Riewoldt/Rance for mine.

Raines v Hislop will give us a better picture where they are in in terms of form and strength plus whether they can play as a defensive small and a crumbing forward.

Newman/Cousins will be interesting to see how Cousins plays full stop but also if he can run out the game and whether Newman can keep up with him and make him accountable.

Edwards v Bling will be a challenge of the 'brothers'. Curious to see if Bling will him the defensive respect he deserves or just run off him continously.

Riewoldt v Rance would be great to see firstly how far Riewoldt has advanced as a HF but also if Rance is AFL ready.

Cogs v Tuck would also give us a better understanding where Cogs sits in the scheme of things.

I hope they go with something similiar to this team matchup MT.

The midfield guys would be heavily rotated so Cogs would get a run against most of the others. Sometimes last year they we get guys to swap teams to even them up if one side was slightly stronger.

Rainesy could also play on Browny and Thursty switch to Hislop.

I thought Newy would be good for Cuz. He'd have the experience to go slightly easy on Benny first up after 18 months out of footy and then build up the physical pressure and contact.

I wasn't sure what to do with Collo. If Cotch isn't ready yet then he could go into the midfield. Even off the bench he'd be part of the rotation.

I was told today they had a scratch match on Monday and there'll be an intraclub game on Feb 5. Time and venue still yet to be confirmed.

3aw believe we are expecting over 2,000 people to turn up and watch.

Terry rang up while the 7pm news was on and said the game will definitely start sometime between 10am and 10:10am and Cousins will play during the first half.

A reminder also that Gosch's paddock is just an oval with a fence around it. So there's no stands (only a couple of trees for cover), no food facilities and of course no loo.

The Tigers will play two 25-minute quarters, then the length of the second half will depend on conditions (the forecast is for hot weather). Monaghan said veterans Cousins, Matthew Richardson, Nathan Brown and Joel Bowden would have limited game time.

had a wander down, nice morning for it geez its nice to see a ground with grass on it
good crowd numbers 500 upwards i reckon.

didnt stay for whole of the game, went down specifically to watch "Hoover" he is all class
walked away with a smile on my face knowing he will only get better
we just might have a win here with Cuz. certainly a crowd favorite already going by the applause
he received.

Foley into everything also.

There was definately a buzz in the air, read into that what ever you want but i reckon
the wheel has turned.

Robert Shaw on SEN

List is very healthy.

Johnson, Tambling, Cotchin and Pettifer didn't play.

Cousins going at 60%, ideal hit out. Played on White. Could play him in Round 1 NAB cup sparingly. Kicks were good, very smart.

Encouraging practice game, competitive and very good match-ups.

Coughlan - good solid game, didn't set world on fire, valuable minutes into the legs.

went down today

Cousins was clearly BOG absolute silk
Lids played well
Brown got alot of the ball
Collins has improved from last season.
Thought young Gus competed well in the ruck
Nahas should be elevated immediately
Young Jack Riewalt has improved again
Jackson got alot of the ball

No injuries that I could see.

Cuz Simmo and Brown got a lift back to the club after the 2nd quarter.

Speaking as a devout hetrosexual, Cuz is an incredible specimen of a man

As an outsider looking in I hope Cuz and Brown develop a friendship. I would think Brown would be good for him. He's a social type but not (apparently) involved in the sort of stuff that has got Cuz into trouble in the past.

Cheers wayne and blaisee :cheers.

Cousins had 12 possies in a half. He got through fine  :thumbsup but Royal said it's the most footy Cuz has played by a long shot so they're going to see how he pulls up. So he won't play against Freo but it was a successful comeback to footy.

Intra-club match report
Herald-Sun blog
Captain Blood   Posted: Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:47 pm

BEN COUSINS - played on a wing before being whisked away in a car at halftime. Started slowly but dominated the second quarter showing some real pace and skill. Hasn't lost anything.

MARK COUGHLAN - played in the centre square all day and took a while to warm up but did some nice work in close as the game wore on. Looks a bit rusty but got through OK (at least until I left)

SHANE EDWARDS - Super impressive playing through the middle of the ground, even after swapping sides at quarter-time. Could be ready to graduate to a midfield role this season.

ALEX RANCE - A unit. Will play this year for sure as a key backman.

ANDREW RAINES - back to his old self, showing plenty of dash out of defence.

BRETT DELEDIO - uncharacteristically missed a couple of targets but looked a class above everyone else. Had a clone wearing No.3 for the other side - must have been his older brother Matt who has been signed by Coburg. He moves exactly like his brother and did a couple of nice things himself.

TYRONE VICKERY - Played in stints in the ruck and looked very raw, but not out of place.

JAYDEN POST - Took one great mark and slotted a couple of goals as a forward. Looks a likely prospect.

NATHAN FOLEY - Played like a man possessed in the first half before fading a little. Took on everyone running through the middle and looks determined to make up for a disappointing 2008.

ADAM THOMSON - Got his hands on the ball a fair bit and could be a handy pick-up.

TOM HISLOP - Kicked a goal early but didn't see much of him after that.

ROBIN NAHAS - Our first pick in the rookie draft was very lively as a small half-forward type. One to watch.

ANDREW COLLINS - Played in the centre for most of the game and worked his way into it well. Had an excellent third quarter. Still looks like a 14yo kid.

CLEVE HUGHES - Has gone the buzz cut. Not a good look, Cleve. Kicked a nice goal though.

RICHO - Played only one quarter but managed to put on his usual show. He started on a wing against Deal Polo and drifted into the forward line to take a couple of classic pack marks. Made a meal of one shot at goal in close then slotted one from 45m out on the boundary. You gotta love him.

Anyone else who was at the game - feel free to add your comments (especially about the last quarter!). Also I saw Jay Shulz hobble off in the third term but no idea if it's anything serious - updates welcome.

Eat em alive!

Good to read an opposition report on the match.

From TalkingCarlton

Quote from: Dr.SHERRIN
I popped along to Gosch's Paddock this morning for the Tiges first intra-club hitout...along with about 1000 others that included Carlton's Brett Munro, Matthew Lappin and Brendan Fevola. Coaches from the Bulldogs and Collingwood also keen lookers on...

Most were probably there to get a glimpse of 'Benny' Cousins - and you can understand why. Seeing the Tigers is an absolute nightmare in the summer...they train all over the place, mostly Victoria Park during the pre-season, sometimes Sandringham...in a few years it'll be permanently at Craigieburn and the club had it's family day at Glen Waverley. The club rarely gives its supporters the right information re: training times and locations and it makes you appreciate just how lucky we are that we have our one home ground that has such history attached to it...not many clubs can say that.

Ok - let's get on to the main focus...Benny. I've gotta tell you - I was ready to come on here and say how 'ineffective a player I think he will be' for them in 2009. It seems that's not going to be the case. Cousins is the bit of midfield depth the Tigers need. He was so easy to spot today, not only because he is so cut - but because he has clean hands, his disposal is excellent and he runs to the right places. While his first 25 minutes was quiet - his second 25 were outstanding.

That last point is important - because the Tiges had a few out there who ran around like chickens with their head cut off and every football basic they should have learnt from their under-12 coach went out the window. Jake King, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Tom Hislop, Daniel Jackson and Angus Graham to mention a few...(not referring to any Coburg listed players out there today - they don't count).

Surprisingly - a couple of the young rookies impressed. Alroy Gilligan and Robin Nahas saw limited game time, but used it well as small forwards. Nahas will play senior footy this year I have little doubt.

The 'A' listers are easy to spot at Richmond. Deledio is a gun. He might not have had his kicking boot on today, but that's minor...he is not in Judd's league at the stoppages - but as a midfielder pushing forward to become a marking and goalkicking option, he's one of the best going around. Nathan Foley saw a lot of it and looks fit and fast. Chris Newman and Joel Bowden are still reliable across half-back, Kel Moore looks like he will continue to develop into a very good fullback and Shane Edwards is another classy mid who will make many look stupid this year, such is this kids excellent footwork.

Richo had a run around and looks good as well...played on a wing and pushed into half-forward. Coughlan tried hard, but will take time to get back to the pace of AFL footy, and Tyrone Vickery played in the ruck. Moves very well - but I don't reckon he's a ruckman. Vickery is a forward in my eyes and that's where I'd play him...a fit Simmonds, and the Tigers look alright down forward with Jack Riewoldt and Nathan Brown providing another avenue to goal.

Their forward line looks very good - their midfield looks good - and i'd suggest their backline is their biggest area of concern, only because of depth issues. While you can't take much away from an intra-club played on Gosch's paddock - those there would have learned a little about the Tigers today...if everything goes right for them this year - they just might find themselves in the box seat.

Just a bit more info.

As my mate said we're here on mass on Feb 5 watching an intra-club - we're mad!  :rollin.

Absentees: Tambling, Cotchin from what I saw.
Gourdis and Petts had a kick around on the oval before the start of the game. Sugar was also a non-participant.

Fev was behind us watching on with interest. Geoff Raines was walking around too.

McRae was coaching the Blacks and Rawlings the Whites when I went to the half-time huddles.

The starting centre-square match-ups were:

B:   Simmo     Foley      Jackson    Lids
W:  Gus          Collins     Tuck      Thomson

Polo was on Richo on the Punt Rd side wing and Cuz and Whitey were on the other wing IIRC.

Okay onto Individual summaries - Black team first:

Raines - impressive return to footy from Rainesy. Got plenty of it and ran the lines through the corridor well. One of the best on the day. He switched from the blacks to the white at quarter time.

Deledio - not the greatest game from Lids IMV. Quiet first quarter from what I saw and his first two possessions up on a HFF missed the target and were turned over. Was better after quarter time when he took a strong pack mark and got more of the footy generating plenty of run. Missed all 3 shots on goal he had.

Simmo - Solid game for the time he was on rucking and linking up through the midfield. Only played a quarter and a bit as did most of the older guys.

Browny - Played more forward of the centre rather than up forward. Got many possessions say 70m out from goal. Only criticism was although his passes hit their mark, many of them were passes into the pockets. Similar game time to Simmo.

Riewoldt - Very good from Jack. He was on a first year young ruckman Browney and continually lead up the corridor to offer marking options for the mids. 3 goals including one from outside 50 (hello Saints game) and a number of marks was a good day out for Jack.

Bowden - Used him mainly up forward in a FP or deep HFF from what I saw. Solid and kicked a goal during his time on the ground.

Richo - Poor Polo was given the job on the wing  :help. Richo played a quarter and a bit, did what he pleased marking here, there and everywhere, handballed off to a teammate despite marking only 12m out, missed the easy shot but got the harder one. Typical Richo lol.

McMahon - Played in his usually HBF rebounding role. A solid to good game from Jordie who got plenty of it.

Rance - I thought up to half-time he was very quiet so that was disappointing. Last quarter was good though playing in defence (CHB) and cutting off White forays forward.

Morton - One of the Blacks best. Very busy and finished with 2.3.

Nahas - Clearly favourite to be promoted of our rookies. A handy late pick-up if he can produce today's effort on a regular basis. Played up high on a HFF or that's where he marked the footy.

Jackson - Solid without being influential. A typical Jacko game for mine.

Schulz - Played in defence and I thought he was solid to good. It was pleasing to see him switch and move the ball on quickly once he marked or gained possession. Used the footy well too.

Patto - didn't really notice Patto to be honest apart from his time in the ruck and that great grab he took towards the end.

Hislop - started very well in the first quarter but drifted out of the game after that. Not sure what happened when his goal was given a point. Must have been touched by the man on the mark.

Hughes - Disappointing as his skinhead haircut. Just couldn't get into the game for most of it whenever the ball headed in his direction. He kicked 2 goals, one of which came from a good mark and kick from outside 50 on an angle, but that was about it from Cleve.

White - Solid from Whitey. Not a standout apart from being Cuz's opponent for a while. I would've given Whitey the points in the first quarter and to Cuz in the second.

Vickery - Well I was just as impressed by him today as I was when I saw him in the U18 champs. Moreso today for his ruckwork. Okay I'm not expecting him to play ruck this year as although he's a good size for a 18 year old he is only 18 but his tapwork was excellent. We were watching from the Punt Rd wing so had a good view of the rucks to watch them carefully and Ty's hand taps were sublime at times. Not necessarily down the mids throats but his taps down into space advantaged a number of times the Black mids and allowed them run onto the footy without breaking stride and get the clearance. Exciting times for the future.

Connors - Another who switched sides after quarter time. Solid across half-forward and also across half-back without being a standout.

Foley - Easily B.O.G. for mine. Would've had easily 30+ possies. He was everywhere - bursting out and through the centre, breaking lines doing his famous long runs, as well as getting out to contests on wing and boundary. Today was the Foley we know and love  :bow.

King - Played back pocket for the Blacks and it was typical Kingy game - worked very hard defensively and got plenty of it but his disposal was erratic when using it. For example he did well to earn a free kick and stop a goal on the last line of defence only to then footpass it straight back to the opposition 30m out from goal.

Title: Re: Intraclub Game - Thursday Feb 5 @ Gosch's Paddock
Post by: mightytiges on February 05, 2009, 05:38:25 PM
continued..

Thursfield - Solid as usual from Thursty. Played last line from what I saw.

Polak - First off I'll say it was fantastic to see Polly playing footy again. Unbelievable in fact given where he's come from over the past 6 months. As for his game judging purely from a football point of view Polly is still a long way away. He was able to mostly run and lead into the right spots but his hands failed him numerous times to hang onto the footy. It did improve slightly by the end of the game and he started to hang onto a couple of marks but the job now if he is to make a AFL game comeback is to try and regain his marking which was a strength of his prior to the accident.

Gilligan - Didn't do a lot but what he did was very polished.

Edwards - The pleasant surprise from the match. I would've had in the best 5 on the ground. Got plenty of it and used his pace to break the lines. He switched side at quarter time and was still able to get his hands on the footy.

Polo - a bit hard to judge Deano when he's asked to match-up on someone who is 6 inches taller than him and is the ultimate competitor and athlete by the name of Richo. Deano must have been relieved when Richo went off after 30 minutes and got into his civies.

Newman - I didn't realise #15 was Newy until the 3rd quarter lol  :wallywink. Typical solid game on a HBF from Newy.

Putt - Nice step up from last year if today becomes the norm for Putty for the rest of the year. Contested well up forward for the weaker Whites and 2.2 is a sound return for his efforts today. I liked the fact as a tall (200cm) he worked hard when the ball hit the ground. Someone to keep an eye on.

Tuck - Solid without being a standout. Worked hard as usual.

JON - I think I noticed him about twice all day. To be fair he is coming back from a shoulder op and may have been used sparingly as a result.

Cogs - Moved much better than what we saw from him at Coburg last year and got his fair share of the footy. I still think we need to see more of Cogs before saying he's "back" (pace still has a ?) but only someone like Cogs would show the desperation to keep on chasing Foley along the boundary until Cogs got enough of a piece of him to knock him over. That happened right in front of us and the crowd gave him a big applause.

Thomson - Solid in a tagging role. Seemed to keep Lids quiet enough in the first quarter.

Cousins - quiet first quarter for mine as he adjusted to playing footy after 18 months out but it started to click in second quarter. Last 10 minutes he was on the ground was the best so it says to me it's gametime that he needs the most from now on. The rest of the package is already there.

Silvester - Solid game in defence.

Post - Very Impressive. Seems our first two picks will turn out to be good gets based on today. Wilbur got better and better and more influential as the game went along. Got plenty of it, showed what a good mark he is and the versatility to play at either end which is what the club wanted from him when drafted. Played more up forward today before moving into defence in the last quarter. He really was main interest towards the end as most of the senior guys had packed up for the day after half-time. The only knock is his kicking can be up and down.

Browne - Oddly started on Jack at CHB who was too nimble for him which is no surprise for a young ruckman. Quiet overall.

Moore - Solid.

Collins - Got a fair bit of it and played alright in patches but when your opponent is racking them up and best afield then playing off each other becomes a knock against you.

Graham - Worked hard and looked good in patches and so-so in others. He appeared to be carrying the Whites ruck load as Simmo, Patto, Vickery and a big Coburg kid wearing black #44.

As for the non-RFC listed players - honourable mentions to midfielder #11 and the ruckman #44 (good side and mobility for a big man)

Overall
Skills were semi-decent for early Feb. Still frustrating mistakes and turnovers were made but after watching a number of these intra-clubs over the past few years where these games were more noted for their rugby scrums with stoppage after stoppage, it was refreshing to see free flowing footy with players running to support one another and break the lines, and both sides moving the ball quickly. The main criticism is too many attacks ended up in the pockets which made kicking for goal more difficult. It's up to the talls albeit still relatively young to straighten us up now that Richo is on a wing.

Some stats from SEN:

Nahas 22 disposals
Lids 15
Rainesy 10 in first qtr.

Dwayne Russell just said on 3aw there were 5,000 there today. That's a slight exaggeration. It was a 1000 or two which is incredible for early Feb.

Ch 10 news showed Dermie, Ratten, Eade and Rama were at Gosch's paddock today watching us. Opposition clubs are worried lol.

Thanks MT  :thumbsup, are you taking questions  ;D
LOL fire away. I'd like to hear myself what wayne, blaisee and anyone else who went today thought too.

If so how was Raines's run, was there any lateral movement?
I wouldn't say lateral movement but he ran from behind for the handball receive and seemed to use the first option moreso today. It was an open game so we'll need to wait until there's more shutdown pressure from a real opposition before Rainesy is fully tested and whether he's learnt any new tricks.

Not the gr8test @ summaries but will say on Nahas has speed and uses it well, along with 22 possies is a ferocious tackler aslo. Saw him at Port and was awesome at that level but doubted the step up considering his size. Today put bed to a bit of that, could be a real dark horse.

Not one for keeping track of the newies and didn't know who a lot of them were but post stood out, Vickery may take a while but looks real likely, liked rances run out of defence.

Rainesy impressed ran the line hard and could surprise after last year (supercoach cheapy ?)

Simmo and Richo looking ultra fit.

Jordie still doesn't like pressure ..

Apologies oxx but Bowden is gunna have another good year.

Shulz who had his right knee bandaged limped off in the third ?

Cogs is a big boy went OK needs games now then we will see - fingers crossed.

ummm Oakley Nicholls still takes too long to make decisions, I hope he can rectify this.

It was pretty warm out there today, Nylex said about 27 ish during the game and it was played in full sun.

Pretty funny when number 9 for the black team - IDFK who he was either, got the ball and Browny just looks at him and yells number 9 number 9 here number 9 give it here number 9 :rollin funny sh*t

Mike headed down to Gosch's paddock today as well...

The Club sold a heap of merchandise (and hopefully memberships too).

Cousins - Looked hesistant in the first quarter but was very good in the second. Healy mentioned from the vision he's seen that it looked as though Cousins wasn't accelerating and fully striding out like the old Cuz we knew at the Eagles. Mike agreed but he believed that would've been an instruction from the Club so Cuz didn't over do it.

Polak - was shakey in the first 20 minutes but once Cousins hit him lace out and Polly marked it, he looked to gain a fair bit of confidence from that.

Mike is apparently writing a piece tomorrow on how Cousins was whisked away by car at half-time yet Richo who is the soul of Richmond had to walk back to Punt Rd. Cuz did walk to Gosch's paddock with Foley, Newy and others.

Tigers impress in intra-club match
richmondfc.com.au
By Mic Cullen
4:00 PM Thu 05 February, 2009

RICHMOND has started its 2009 campaign with an impressive intra-club match at Gosch’s Paddock that saw Mark Coughlan playing competitively in Richmond colours again.

Coughlan has suffered a series of leg injuries – including two knee reconstructions – and hasn’t played for the Tiger for a couple of years.

The game was played in hot conditions on Wednesday and the Tigers elected to play most of their guns for just the first two quarters.

Ben Cousins looked better as the game wore on, Graham Polak looked very rusty in the first term but took three marks in the second, while Essendon recruit Tom Hislop scored the first goal of the game after a strong mark at centre half-forward.

The teams were selected to match the better forwards against the better backs.

Matthew Richardson was again on the wing and kicked a major from there, Joel Bowden booted another, as did Nathan Foley (20+ touches in two terms) and Cleve Hughes.

Kel Moore was strong at the back, along with Will Thursfield and new skipper Chris Newman.

Matty White was his usual explosive self in the midfield, with Foley, Brett Deledio (15 touches in a half) and Andrew Raines (10 touches in first term).

Troy Simmonds and new recruit Tyrone Vickery (pick eight in the 2008 National Draft) both impressed in the ruck and around the ground.

Richmond’s first pick in the NAB Rookie Draft, Robin Nahas, collected 22 touches and youngster Jayden Post improved as the day went on.

Richmond assistant coach Brian Royal said the coaching staff were happy with the hit-out.

“It was a good hit-out – we got four quarters in, two 25-minute quarters and probably two 20s at the end,” Royal said.

“We had a lot of guys from our Coburg reserves side playing which made it a little bit scrappy in the second half, but to be honest, we thought it was a fairly promising standard.

“Mark (Coughlan) was terrific – it’s been fantastic for Mark to get through a full-scale hit-out. It’s probably been two years since Mark’s been in this sort of situation.

“We’ve been really pleased with his pre-season preparation and to this stage he hasn’t had a hiccup.

“Andrew (Raines) unfortunately had an injury interrupted season last year, and he’s very determined to get back into the AFL side, and we were really pleased with the form of Tom Hislop.”

Royal said Raines and Couglan were likely to play Richmond’s NAB Cup opener against Fremantle next weekend in Perth.

Opposition spies abounded, with the Bulldogs Rodney Eade, Collingwood’s Blake Caracella and Melbourne’s Sean Wellman the most obvious.

This is tough even with 26  :-\

B.   Raines       Moore     Thursty
HB. Newman   McGuane  McMahon
C:   White        Lids         Richo
HF: Hislop      Riewoldt   Browny
F:   Morton       Putt         Nahas
R:   Simmo      Tuck        Foley
Int:  Graham, Post, Edwards, Connors, Bowden, Schulz
Subs: Thomson, Jackson

Wanted to put in Vickery but someone had to miss.
I think they might give Cogs as rest and then build it up closer to round 1
Richo will alternate games (play week 1 then miss week 2).

I know everyone I watched the game with were impressed especially with Dahl and as they are Coburg watchers they'll be keeping an eye out on him this year to see if he can keep up what he showed today and put himself forward as a possible rookie ruckman candidate for Richmond.

Edwards just has it. 8)
Hopefully he really adds something to our midfield this year.
I was hoping our 2006 draftees would step up a gear this year. I'm feeling more confident now with Jack, Shane and hopefully Connors as well.

hello everyone,

i was down there today. behind the goals near the toll freeway. so my viewing for the opposite goals was hard to tell.

just some questions ...

i did not recognise Hislop. what number was he???

Jay was playing in the "Whites No.25". No.42 for the "Whites" impressed me after half time. Collins i heard.

as i left, i saw Connors (White; No.39) spriting between witches hats on the other oval. (after the match finished).

noticed a lot of new faces, so guessing they were Coburg players. who was No.9 in the Black???

saw Trent Cotchin, with no limp on that achilles.

Jay went off before full time limping??? how is he??? saw Gourdis with a massive ice bag on his left ankle.

does anybody know why Tambling did not play???

and ... in all seriousness ... was Terry Wallace at the match??? i could not see him???

i tired to take pictures, but was too interested in who was on who ...

i thought McGuane is terrific in defence (hard at it) just needs muscle on him.

Nahas looks dangerous around goal, so hopefully he puts on muscle.

i don't know about other people's opinion, but Hughes was disappointing. Reiwoldt and Morton were decent.

Morton was wearing No.30 for "The Blacks"

great to see Coughlan playing i think 3 quarters and getting in and under. someone on this thread said he "didn't set the world on fire" which i agree.

Brown i hardly noticed, 1st quarter - touched it a couple of times. second quarter i have no idea.

Matthew Richardson i heard a number of times "crack the sh**s" at anybody that didn't pass to him.

yet, Richardson is our match-winner. pray he never gets injured again, because he looks like a weapon.

i liked Joel Bowden in the forward line. and a couple of times in the backline he had a go at different players.

"f***ing punch the ball" he said to somebody, and the crowd laughed!

Reiwoldt still is skinny, IMO. saw him closely and was disappointed with his build. though was decent today and definatly a key at Richmond.

Morton is a genuin half forward. 30/40 plus goals this year, hoping.

Shane Edwards has got some great magic skills. saw some tricks in front of me. and just needs to get more football in the real deal.

i noticed that our midfield start up and forwards line was interesting.

Midfield for the Whites had; Coughlan, Tuck, Cousins, Thomson (there was more, but that was all i could see)
Blacks; Jackson, White and obviously more ...

but those players to me is, Whites our best line up midfield VS our second best midfield. i think Deledio was in the black midfields.

then, our forward line was the best with the blacks, and second with the whites. to me was more a balancing the team.

the defence for the whites was our best backs (Thursfield switched into blacks later)

and the blacks i noticed - McMahon and Rance.

obviously there was more, but was looking around for the man Ben ...

i thought ben could of played one more quarter ... i know he was only playing one half. but thought he was getting the feel again.

he is defenetly a class player. and i think Wing is his best position at the moment. he looks dangerous on that wing.

i think a bit of "Brownlow Ben Form" will take time to come back. but diffenetly in the starting 18, in round one!!!

i still think our entry into the forward 50 is bad. maybe because our forwards are leadings to early or too late.

why does Wallace like McMahon??? ROFLMFAO!!!

good to see Polak running.

Raines had those typical run throughs which were great to see. (i think he was in the white no.4)???

who was number 5 in the white??? was that Gourdis???

Oakley Nicholls better change, or else he will get delisted.

those are my thoughts people. early to tell, though, overall happy to see Cousins and Coughlan and NO injuries i think servive!!!

Could you have found the elusive "intelligent" Carlton supporter?  :o :o :o

what a moron of a carlton supporter. thinking our backline is our biggest weakness.  clearly has no idea.  anyone that has any knowlege of our team knows that's not the case.

Cuz did walk to Gosch's paddock with Foley, Newy and others.

alot of noise is being made about cousins getting a lift back to the club in a car. He wasnt alone, Simmo and brown and a trainer drove him back to do a running session.

MT is right about post though, IMHO he has gone right past rance in one practise game, Post played a great game, very ptomsing indeed

Saying our backline is our biggest weakness is the biggest example of THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK in the history of mankind.
What a tool...

Jay went off before full time limping??? how is he???

Has a small injury. Won't play NAB 1 according to reports.

does anybody know why Tambling did not play???

In Darwin. TW gave the all clear for him to play the indigenous game, he's now in the squad.

why does Wallace like McMahon??? ROFLMFAO!!!

Reports I have read, from posters I respect, suggest he played well.

Thanks for the report torch.  :thumbsup

Meh, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I was impressed with the reasonableness of his assessment. Less rabid than I am accustomed to from a Carlton supporter. Normally you can picture the strings of saliva slowly dripping from their mouths as they speak.

The back line last year, though settled, did leak quite a few goals last year. We may have scored over 100 points most of the time in the last few games but so did the opposition. I realise there are other reasons for this but from the point of view of an outsider looking in, who probably doesn't take that much of an interest, I can see why they might feel our back line is a weakness.

Geez is Matty White(pic 2) a unit now or what?
I guess evidence of this is that he took Cuz yesterday.
Looks like TW is grooming him for a tagging role, still I see him as our best option at BP & maybe rotating otb.

Ta for the pics cyclops. :)

Rance is a defender whilst Post needs to be developed up forward because thats what we need. I dont necessarily think they are competing for the same spot. Both could easily play in the same 22.

i did not recognise Hislop. what number was he???
27 in the black.

No.42 for the "Whites" impressed me after half time. Collins i heard.
Yep it was Collo.

noticed a lot of new faces, so guessing they were Coburg players. who was No.9 in the Black???
Don't know.

and ... in all seriousness ... was Terry Wallace at the match??? i could not see him???
Plough and the coaches were watching while standing on the back trailer of that truck (see background of pic 8 above)

i thought ben could of played one more quarter ... i know he was only playing one half. but thought he was getting the feel again.
I agree he was getting the feel of the game in the last 10 minutes he was on. They have to be patient with his body though after 18 months out of footy. After half-time most of the senior boys had gone off and it was more a VFL game.

he is defenetly a class player. and i think Wing is his best position at the moment. he looks dangerous on that wing.
Yep agree Cuz will play 'outside' initially. Either wing or a HFF.

who was number 5 in the white??? was that Gourdis???
Another Coburg player or a borrowed Bundorra player. Gourdis didn't play. Gourdis was on the oval before the game having a kick-to-kick with Petts and Sugar.

overall happy to see Cousins and Coughlan and NO injuries i think servive!!!
After the Blues and Bombers intraclubs there's nothing but positives out of our intraclub  :thumbsup

Based on yesterday true but there's still room for both eventually in the side. Rance in the more traditional CHB/key position backman role and Postie the more versatile running tall who can play anywhere - at both ends or on the wing. Sure they're massive shoes to fill and there won't be another Richo but it would mean we wouldn't have to change our team structure post-Richo.

Oh yes, totally agree with this, he can play forward, can play back, link in as a wingman, he has great hands, will be a very damaging player for us. I believe he is perfect for Richo's role. Rance will fit in nicely, in fact, if rance comes on the way i'm hoping he will, it will be a necessity to play them both. The big forwards are what bothers me, no one has taken ownership of those positions yet.

Defo improving Ox and doing everything in his capacity to be the best he can be. 8)
He'll need to go up a big notch this year though to be able to be mentioned in the same breath as Special K.

Yep. #9 in the Whites.

I'd reckon the Club will "retire" the #12 for a while before handing it down. While Postie has like-attributes to play the role Richo is now playing on the wing, there is and will be only one Richo. It'd put too much pressure on a young player especially Postie to wear #12 straight after Richo gives it away.
