Title: Round 1 is officially sold out!!!
Post by: Stripes on March 17, 2009, 09:54:46 PM
Just bought a few tickets for the game and all the premium tickets are sold out and the reserve seats I recieved are infront of the big screen on the top level.

If anyone out there is as silly as me and has left buying a ticket until the last minute I recommend getting on asap because i believe this game will be fully ticketed.

Hope Caro is wrong with her prediction

Blues clash finals rehearsal: Brown

RICHMOND veteran Nathan Brown has forecast 90,000 people will attend the season opener against Carlton at the MCG next Thursday.

And Brown says the game will be the perfect dress rehearsal for finals, which the Tigers aim to play in 2009.

“There’s no bigger finals atmosphere than 90,000 at the MCG,” Brown said.

Brown also said he had full confidence that Ben Cousins would have an immediate impact on the competition, after picking up 25 possessions in the final NAB Challenge match on the Gold Coast last weekend.

“He looked really sharp,“ Brown said.

I've split the ticketing talk from the other thread until we have confirmation whether the game is sold out or at least confirmed as all ticketed.

From the Ticketek site....

AFL MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE:
Due to the high demand for the Richmond vs Carlton match on Thu 26 Mar, the guest entitlement for AFL Members has been reduced to 1 guest pass per member.

MCC MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE:
Visitor tickets for the Richmond vs Carlton match on Thu 26 Mar have sold out. Members may still purchase reserved seat tickets for themselves for this event.

General public allocation exhausted

http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=RICHM0109

from a poster on the main board of Bigfooty...

I believe when Ticketek say it's sold out that's a bit misleading (so if your a tiger fan you may still have hope at getting to this one). Basically the MCG has 3 sections, MCC,AFL and GA. MCC and AFL are each 23k, GA is about 55k. AFL sold out (may be 500-2000 restricted viewing or standing room still to be released though for AFL members), MCC (can't be sold out, visitors tickets and the 4k odd reserved seats can be sold out, but there are 19k seats for walk up MCC members and their guests).

AFL and GA appear to be sold out at this stage. When I say appear ticketek/ticketmaster normally release sections of seats at a time, so while it's sold out, there are probably 3-5k GA seats (most restricted viewing) that will be released close to or on game day. If you're a Richmond member (non-reserved seat) if you get to the G early (walk-up) you may get lucky if they have just released seats/standing room and you could get in (ie Hawks vs Geelong and Hawks vs Carlton last year both sold out well in advance but I know a couple of members that got there early without a ticket and still scanned their Hawks membership and got in) but unless you have a reserved seat (ie the match is fully ticket) I imagine your chances of getting in are 50/50 at best.

Bit strange how they release tickets in stages. Why not release the lot and sell them in stages (if that makes sense). Why wait until one lot of tickets is sold before releasing the next allocation. Surely as soon as one is filled the next should be released - not wait required. In addition as soon as one allocation/section is on sale they should label the ticket sales as that so everyone knows what is available, what is sold out and what is left.

Maybe I'm missing something... ???

Do you know something Wayne....if we go well and final we may well outdraw them over the season. We are going to surprise a lot of lazy assumptions if and when we start to motor.

Eddie will be pretty interested in a 2 game money sharing next season if he sees the late season Tigers V Pies play to 85,000 as it will if we are top 8.

There's still tickets available....

Bring on crowds
Jon Ralph | March 21, 2009

THE AFL has predicted next week's blockbuster Round 1 could set a league record for attendances, eclipsing the 367,974 spectators who attended the last home-and-away round in 1998.

Huge crowds are expected to both the season-opening Carlton-Richmond clash and Friday night's Grand Final rematch between Geelong and Hawthorn.

The AFL said yesterday tickets were still available for both MCG games and it hoped for a crowd of 80,000 to 90,000 on Thursday.

Anything above 65,000 would be considered excellent for the Friday night game, with Collingwood taking on Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon, and St Kilda and Melbourne both playing at home during the weekend.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou says the AFL record for a single round is within reach.

"It's a huge build-up in anticipation to this season," he said.

"As we go into next week and the opening round, we might break our all-time attendance record for a round, considering the Thursday night game with Carlton and Richmond has Ben Cousins, and the Geelong-Hawthorn Grand Final replay is the following night.

"We might touch on 350,000 or 360,000 people, so this year is going to be a really good football season. In these difficult times . . . football is a fantastic place to enjoy yourself."

I just did a 2 ticket search on the ticketek site Stripes and you can still get premium seating. In the Olympic stand M57 rows V or X, and the GSS M10 row LL. The latter also has more seats in row available.

We might break the record for a Richmond-Carlton H/A crowd...

Thursday's opening match between arch-rivals Carlton and Richmond is expected to set the scene.

The return of Brownlow medallist Ben Cousins after drug problems, on debut for the Tigers, has officials anticipating a crowd of more than 80,000.

The record home and away attendance between the two clubs is 85,673 at the MCG in 1980.

2/ How many AFL members bother to show
True WP. They both have limited the number of guest/visitor passes.

Visitor tickets for the Richmond vs Carlton match on
Thu 26 Mar have sold out. Members may still purchase reserved seat tickets for themselves for this event.

AFL Reserve and Club member and Public Reserves on the ticketek site say "General public allocation exhausted" although they could be holding off again selling more areas which is what they have been doing so far.

just to help and also for my own understanding,

when i purchased my tickets last Friday, (with my club membership)

the lady said that there have been more tickets released today (that Friday)

so I am guessing they are holding ticket sales per day which is what other people have pointed out.

this is the first time I have had to buy reserve seats for an Home and Away match.

just amazing and exciting that the Great Southern Stand, Level 4 is all reserved seating.

the match would have to be pushing 90,000 plus!

wouldn’t the AFL come out and say, ‘Rich v Carl: is a fully ticketed match’???

has there been an announcement like that, that I have just missed?

four more sleeps

Bumper crowd
Jake Niall | March 23, 2009

THE AFL has conservatively predicted that the Richmond-Carlton season opener will attract at least 75,000 fans.

While ticket sales, especially in the MCC members and in the AFL members reserve — which has stopped selling guest passes — suggest an attendance of at least 80,000, an AFL spokesman said the league was hoping for "at least 75,000" to the game, which has generated more interest than the grand final re-match, due to the presence of Ben Cousins and pre-season hype about the two clubs.

West Australians flock to Ben Cousins v Chris Judd showdown
Matt Windley | March 23, 2009

TRAVEL agencies in Perth are being inundated by requests for flights to Melbourne for the showdown between former Eagles stars Ben Cousins and Chris Judd.

More than 90,000 fans are expected to pack the MCG on Thursday night for Cousins' first official match in Richmond colours.

While many West Australians are making the trek across the Nullarbor Plain for the Melbourne Grand Prix on Sunday, most are arriving early for Thursday's blockbuster.

There has been higher demand than usual for Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar flights for the Thursday morning, but limited seating is still available.

Not sure about that i think you'll find we may split this one with the Blues like last year, hence why we are guaranteed playing them twice - gate from both games get split.

Ditto Bombers

I just got two tickets in the Ponsford stand about 10 mins ago so there are still tickets left, but I don't think there's many as they are kinda up in the clouds. I like the Ponsford stand though and I think they almost right behind the goals so bring on 90,000+.

AFL warning on tickets as sell-out looms
Andrea Petrie | March 24, 2009

THURSDAY night's blockbuster between Richmond and Carlton is likely to sell out today with fewer than 5000 general admission tickets still available.

And scalpers are trying to cash in, with asking prices for some tickets fetching $220 on the internet last night.

With the much-anticipated game being held on Thursday night, contingency plans are also being put in place to manage the saturation of people to the MCG during peak hour road and rail traffic. The game features former West Coast captains and premiership teammates Ben Cousins and Chris Judd playing against one another.

AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said yesterday that between 4000 and 5000 tickets were still available to the public, with at least 85,000 expected to attend.

"It's an exceptional result considering Richmond and Carlton have only ever drawn more than 75,000 for a home-and-away game twice in their history," he said. "For a full crowd you're depending on standing room and all ticket-holders turning up but either way it is going to be a big turnout." He said the game was being held on Thursday for availability reasons because the SCG and Gabba were often hosting cricket matches at this time of year. It helped having a Thursday night game on the fixture in the first round.

MCC spokesman Shane Brown said visitor passes had sold out for the game last week.

"It's a tricky one for us because we have to estimate how many people will show up," he said.

Anti-scalping legislation introduced in 2003 only covers the grand final, but Keane said the AFL worked closely with eBay to remove tickets offered up for sale on the internet for higher prices.

"And where we can identify the tickets we cancel them because the conditions of the ticket state they can't be re-sold above their face value," he said.

"We say to people firstly, don't buy tickets above face value when obviously there are still tickets available at normal prices.

"And two, there's no guarantee you will be admitted if you do buy them (and they are cancelled)."

The AFL is anticipating that Friday night's grand final rematch between Hawthorn and Geelong will attract about 65,000 people.

"Traditionally Carlton and Richmond always draw more strongly than Geelong and Hawthorn so our expectation all along was that Thursday would be the bigger game," Keane said.

"The general enthusiasm and interest for football in all our games this weekend is probably a bit higher than what we expected so we'd be hoping for a really strong first round.

"Hopefully that translates all the way through the year, coming off our all-time attendance record last year," he said.

"We made the decision in December last year to freeze the basic general admission ticket prices at the same as 2008 so hopefully that will help sustain interest all season."

SEN has a guy from the MCC on now. He says there are NO tickets left.

They are predicting now 95,000  :o. Final number will depend on how many MCC members turn up. MCC members can still role up but if they leave later than 5.30pm on Thursday then they probably won't get in as the ground will have reached capacity.

What the capacity of the MCG now - about 101k?  I wonder if there's any chance of breaking the all time H/A record of 99k from 1958 b/w Coll and Melb if the MCC is filled completely.

I'm looking at them in my "basket."

Despite what it says on the homepage if you search for tickets there are still some available.

e.g. just a few minutes ago I got 4 side-by-side tickets in Areas:
Olympic Stand
Category: Premium Seating
Section: M55
Row: GG
 and
Area:  Olympic Stand
Category: Premium Seating
Section: M57
Row: EE
They are still selling them.

EDIT: Now they're gone.

Given total gate receipts on 95k would be around $2 to 2.5 million, I would hope that we'd get more than $250k

Didn't Smorgon say clubs currently get 30c in the dollar? That would mean $600-750k if the gate receipts were along the lines of what Infamy said.

That's the top deck so it most likely will be mixed Stripes. Not the worst spot either to watch the game as I've sat there once before although you might be side on to the Richmond end goals.

Caro is on 3aw and said Richmond will get $500k from tomorrow night yet the MCC will gain $6-7 million so Richmond will receive less than 10% of the gate receipts.

Stephen Gough disputes Caro's figures. He said if Richmond has 30k members and 20k reserved seats then they get all that money and the MCC doesn't get a cent.

A number of unhappy callers on SEN while I was driving home saying that it was wrong that they cannot get into the game on just their RFC membership...

My advice = read the fine print folks

SEN (Francis Leach in particular) was backing the RFC saying that the RFC had advised as far back as the 4/3/09 that members who didn't have reserve seats with their memberships should look at buying a seat

If pre booking tickets afor non reserved seating members means big crowds big dollars and success on the field for Richmond then bring it on. Just like the late 60's and early 70's we can be the biggest selling box office hit in the AFL once again. Let the whingers whinge all they want while they're whinging I'll be getting tix. :thumbsup

With almost 3,500 posts on PRE, what better way to kick off my first post on OER with a profit forecast...

bombers and pies make about 750,000 each for 85 to 90K fro Anzac day, if the tiges get over 90,000 id say we would be looking in the order of 750,000 to 1 million profit, i think it would be closer to 1 million as its our home game and we dont share with carlscum..

The hype has been incredible (the MCC guy on the news said it is 10 fold the Judd hype last year) but this game is still worth no more than the next 21. Hardly make or break on-field. A massive kick along though off-field if we win in terms of boosting memberships, merchandise etc.

Thanx Jackstar, yep months ago i mentioned we could well be looking at 90K, i kind've got howled down but fair enough it was months ago but come early march on the opening day of ticket sales i just thought hold on a sec this is crazy and i immediately started the thread on PRE and i vividly remember telling everyone get seats pronto do NOT wait...

On another matter about standing room...

Im an AFL richmond club support member and as we know ALL seats in the AFL reserve are sold out....I know that the AFL are allowing standing room in the AFL members for members who missed out or for those who prefer to stand...the official figure im not sure but id think around the 1,000 to 1,500 max....

What i find strange is why is it possible for AFL members which i am, to be able to walk up and enter for standing room...and not possible for richmond home game members with a membership card but no upgrade reserve tkt, its like double standards, so if i didnt have a seat i could just go early and swipe my card and get in, it should be the same for RFC home team members...

Read the below for AFL members...

Round One, Richmond v Carlton - Match Update

Tue, Mar 24, 09 2:40 PM Thu 12 March, 2009 AFL Members are advised that reserved seating for the Round 1 match between Richmond and Carlton is currently exhausted.

AFL Members are advised that standing room allocations will not be made available to pre-book for the Richmond v Carlton match this Thursday night.

Limited standing room areas within the AFL Reserve will be held for walk up for AFL Members on the night of the match (subject to capacity).

AFL Members wishing to access standing room areas are advised to arrive at the ground early.

Please note that guest passes will not be available to purchase on the night and that guest pass pack tickets will not be valid for the event.

This is just fantastic for our club... :woohoo
Welcome to OER Astute and thanks for the info. Great news for the club  :cheers.

No probs MT, cant wait until 2moro nite, 1 more sleep... :gotigers

The MCC must think we are feral  :lol.

Crap night to say the least  :banghead but well done to all our supporters turning up in droves like that. At least we turned up to the game!  :scream

As for the MCC - so much for it being a "sell-out". The left-hand side of the top deck of the MCC members was empty  ::). If they aren't going to turn up then why not give the seats to those that in the end couldn't get a ticket.

Foir those who are interested it was the 19th largest Hame and away attendance in history and the 4th largest Home and Away attendance both Richmond and Carlton have played against.

I have no evidence to back this up but Richmond easily outnumbered Carlton in the stands and the tiger Army last night was probably the second biggest one club turnout to a H and A game this decade after Essendon's turnout to the Hird/Sheedy game.

According to a Blues supporter there were signs saying that Richmond and Carlton away game members could scan their tickets at the turnstiles and go to the standing room area. Many members who didnt get tickets could have turned up and got in.

My son got in this way so yes this is true (and at no extra cost).

Good to hear 1965  :thumbsup although pretty poor of the MCC and the AFL not to advertise this when we had some supporters with 11-game memberships ring up SEN complaining they wouldn't get in and blaming the RFC.
