Richmond captain Chris Newman wants the draw retained in the AFL's home and away season, despite admitting he was "shattered" after the Tigers shared the points with St Kilda on Friday night.

Melbourne and Sydney also played out a draw in round one, but Newman supported retaining draws in the minor rounds.

"I think we still keep it, it doesn't occur too much," Newman told the Seven Network's AFL Gameday program on Sunday.

"It is disappointing and a hollow feeling for supporters after the game but I think you just keep it.

"We had a huge amount of positives to come out of the game, no doubt.

"But for me it felt like a loss.

"It was really disappointing, to get ourselves in a position to win a game again and not follow through, I was shattered after the game."

Please don't give dopey Anderson another rule to change  ::). The players were off their feet as it was at the end of the game without now expecting them to play extra-time. There's nothing wrong with a draw and hasn't been for 150 years as it's so rare in Aussie Rules.

Yep it's a hollow feeling, but am a darn site happier than if the saints had rushed/forced one through in the last 15 seconds of that match that's 4 sure.
