36 Players used in 8 rounds. How many more?
« on: May 23, 2006, 03:22:31 PM »
So far this season we have used 36 players in the first 8 rounds. Thats more than any other club. I can also seeing use use Chaffey and maybe even White in the next few weeks.

We have 39 listed players and 3 rookies (with Humm being elevated to the main list). That means we will play nearly our whole list. I don't know if a team has ever done that in a season.

Now I know that this has been caused by a injury list a mile long but what do you guys think. Is it good in the short/long term for the club to get games into so many players or do you think players might be getting ahead of themselves by getting games before they are ready?

I reckon it's great to see the kids get games. I think that in some cases (eg McGuane) games were given out of necessity.

I think from the 2004 draft the only kid yet to play is Limbach

And from last years it would be Casserly and White.

The only one out of those 3 (on the senior list) who I would think is more unlikely to play seniors in 2006 than play would be Casserly because he's been out with OP. Although he is due to come back either this week or next week with the Burger "2s".

I think White would have to be next in line for a call up and that's because he deserve a chance.

Limbach I thought was stiff last week to get pushed back the Burger "2s" - he'd been going well. I still reckon he is a chance for seniors this year.

Chaffey once he regains match fitness is a given for a senior call up

White to debut versus Freo at Subiaco is my tip.

Possibility.

Actually it will be interesting this week to see what changes we make this week if Johnson and Gaspar in particular are available

Out of the 36 only McGuane (out of necessity with all out key defenders injured) and JON (for the dreamtime game) you could argue were given a go without strong games at Coburg behind their selection. Mind you JON was pretty handy in that game and kept his spot in the seniors for the following week.

Brisbane would be pretty high up too with the number of players used. They've promoted something like 4 players off their rookie list.

Should Deledio miss the game, Richmond may introduce its 36th player to senior football this season, by playing onballer Matthew White, 19.

Just reading the latest EOTT articles and we've had an amazing 17 debutants in just the past 2 1/2 years.

2004: Hartigan, Moore, Roach, Jackson, Tuck and Rainesy.
2005: Lids, Blingers, Meyer, Patto, Foley and Thursfield.
2006: Polo, JON, Hughes, McGuane and White.

I'd reckon Casserly will be No. 18 by the time the year is out if he can injury-free and get a few games at Coburg under his belt.

Department of Youth indeed :gotigers

Btw the Swans have only used 24 players so far this year compared to our 36 :o.

I'd be very surprised if Casserly plays seniors this week only because of his injury problems. He's coming from a long way back

I reckon Limbach will get a game before Trav ;) ;D

Actually taking the rookies Graham & Howat out of the equation I think I am right in saying the only 2 players on our list yet to play senior footy are Casserly and Limbach
