Vale Ronald Dale Barassi

" Weak as Pi_ss" one of his greatest lines  :clapping
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

from the song "Don't Walk Away" by Pat Benatar 1988 (Wide Awake In Dreamland)

Yep, Barassi had some classic lines and vision as coach.

"And you probably don't know what I'm talking about!"

"Tell Blight, serve him bloody right."

Purely white line fever as he was very approachable off the field.

No way would any coach these days allow such open access.

ps. While he didn't have much onfield success himself as coach up in the Sydney, he set the Swans as a club and their culture up for the future.

Vale Ronald Dale Barassi.

In the last 25 years, the four people to be involved in the most AFL grand finals as player/senior coach combined are Lance Franklin, Joel Selwood, Chris Scott and Damien Hardwick with six each.

In the 25 years from 1954 to 1978, Ron Barassi was in 17.

The AFL is leaning in the direction of commemorating Ron Barassi by putting his name to premiership medals rather than the cup. So the 23 winners would take home a Barassi . The league is working through it with his family but believes it would be fitting.

Hmmmm I don't know about that but maybe I'm too young to appreciate it.

Thoughts?

I feel like winning your medal should just be a blank canvas and not named after someone but I suppose we do it with other awards...
