Do you remember this dramatic event, 40 years ago today on 8 February 1983?

The dust storm hit Melbourne at about 3pm.

Visibility dropped to about 100m as the dust cloud dumped approximately 1,000 tonnes of topsoil from the Mallee region on the city.

I was in Grade 5 walking home from school when it hit .

I remember being in the primary school classroom and suddenly looking out the windows to see the Mother of all dust clouds rolling in. It was an unbelievable site and so high like a wave. The teachers panicked big time and made us get on the floor and under the desks etc. About a week or 2 later on a very hot night it happened again but that time it included Ash Wednesday smoke. The dust cloud not as bad. Nobody was blaming climate change back then though......
