INJURY UPDATE

01.06.04

On the Prowl this week comes from a fine, sunny and dare I say it considerably warmer place than Melbourne. We are in Perth where yours truly trekked to get my weekly footy fix of all things Richmond. As part of my travels I ventured to the after match function that was run by the W.A. supporters group. Although not successful in any of the raffles I did manage to catch up with a couple of people.

As has been reported (albeit briefly in today's Herald-Sun) Andy Kellaway will be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks because of a broken collarbone. Speaking to Greg Miller on Saturday he told me that he had seen the x-rays and that "it was a nice clean break". My initial thought was OUCH and it wasn't going to be a pleasant trip home for Chubba.

Aaron Fiora was replaced in the selected side by Ben Marsh. On Saturday evening the after match function was told that he had suffered a leg injury earlier in the week. The Club's web-site as well as the newspaper are now calling this leg injury a hamstring.

Could Adam Houlihan and Luke Weller be the latest Tigers to be hit with the infamous "1 week" syndrome? You probably remember that recently Duncan Kellaway was listed as being "1 week" for 3 consecutive weeks. On the Prowl notes that is the 2nd week in a row that both Adam and Luke have been listed as 1 week. Has the "1 week" syndrome struck again?

CATCHING UP WITH.....

Mark Coughlan was interviewed at the after match function (see picture) and received huge applause when introduced. Speaking firstly about his new contract with the Tigers he admitted it had been an easy decision because he is very happy at Tigerland. On the injury front when asked if he would be back in the next week he said "no" and "that it would be at least another 2 possibly 3 weeks" before he would be playing again. The most pleasing thing is that he will not be rushing back - complete recovery is the key. When asked by OER if it had been tough not being able to play, Cogs replied with an empathic "yes".

Also pleasing to hear from Greg Miller that while in Perth he had been able to watch some of the local WAFL completition and some of the young talent going around on the other side of the country. Same goes for the Clubs recent trip to Adelaide. He said he has also been spending a fair bit of time watching the junior competitions in Victoria. Regarding Daniel Jackson, although not playing for Coburg he has been playing and staring for Carey Grammar.

Or post it on the forum!

Last week I asked the question "where do we go from here?". With The Age and The Australian both carryng stories regarding possibly board challenges it certainly has created some debate on our forum. The one thing that everyone seems to agree on is that there needs to be changes. I believe we are all watching with interest and trepidation. Let's hope they get it right this time.

And my final word...

It maybe a couple of weeks late but congratulations to the Tiger faithful who "rocked" up to Punt Road Oval on the 23rd of May. The crowd was about 2,000 and as I suggested on our forum the biggest crowd that Coburg has played in front of for a very long time. A couple of things I reckon the crowd figure showed was that 1) the Tiger faithful want to watch our young players coming through and 2) how much we miss the old reserves (or maybe that one is just me)

There is another game scheduled for Punt Road on Sunday 4th July - I'll be interested to see what numbers we get for that game.
