INJURY UPDATE

12.07.04

Greg Stafford injured his knee late in the game against the Lions up at the Gabba. Greg had surgery last Friday (9/7/04) on his knee and his foot. Both operations went well and Staffy is expected back in 4-5 weeks.

OER has kept an eye on the progress of our young recruit Kyle Archibald. After 15 weeks of being listed as "indefinite" Kyle has finally been listed on the Club's web-site as being 3 weeks away from playing. All of us at OER are hoping that Kyle doesn't get struck down with that other injury curse that has plagued many Tigers this season - 1 week.

Injury wise could there be any other player on our list unluckier than Bill Nicholls? After finally overcoming a serious hip injury followed by a hamstring strain Bill suffered a fractured cheekbone and eyesocket in his comeback game 4 weeks ago. As a result of surgery to the fractures he has suffered a number of infections. He was due to make his comeback in the Coburg reserves last Sunday.

Where is Mark Coughlan? No he didn't play for Coburg on the weekend but MT has told us on the OER forum that he is due play for Coburg this weekend with the view of being back in the seniors in a month.

CATCHING UP WITH.....

While I was enjoying the hospitality of Player and Coaching Link on Saturday afternoon Footy Director Greg Miller gave a pre-match talk. One of the questions he was asked focused on whether the plan was to play the younger players before the end of the season.

Greg said that the plan was to give a number of players the opportunity to play senior football before the end of the season. Some of the names mentioned included Roach, Raines, Gilmour, Hartigan (can anyone tell me why he was dropped to begin with?) and Jackson. Certainly something to look forward too. Let's hope it is sooner rather than later.

But it is more likely to be later rather than sooner in the case of Daniel Jackson. Anyone who has been following Coburg over the last few weeks would be aware of how talented this young bloke looks. Unfortunately, Daniel's school football commitments are about to begin again and Greg Miller mentioned on Saturday that Daniel will probably not be available for the next 3 weeks.

And my final word...

Congratulations must go to the Club for last weeks Member's cocktail party. For those of us who have been members long enough to qualify for an invite we were treated to plenty of food and drink. Though, I will admit to being disappointed with the raffle results - I was so close to a prize, one number to be precise. Well done RFC.

There is still more football to be played at Punt Road Oval in 2004. The 1980 Premiership team will be taking on the Motorola All Stars on August 1st for the Motorola Legends Cup.

Anyone wanting to watch Coburg there are only 3 more home games this season. The dates:

Sunday August 1st -v- Sandringham

Saturday August 7th -v- Northern Bullants

Saturday August 21st -v- Werribee

And for those wanting to take a trip down the old VFL memory lane: Coburg venture to Windy Hill to take on the Bendigo Bombers on Saturday August 14th.
