INJURY UPDATE

18.04.05

Kane Johnson told a member's function pre-match that he was due to start running on Monday of this week with the hope of returning to the side against Port Adelaide. He explained that his heel injury was stress related but not a stress fracture. Although admitting that he could have played against the Dockers, Kane, Terry Wallace and the Club don't want him playing until the problem is resolved. As we were told what's the point of playing for a couple of weeks, aggravating it again and then missing another 6 weeks?

We've been all waiting for Richard Tambling to debut but some bad luck with injury has delayed his start. The good news is subject to a fitness test later in the week Tambo should play for Coburg this week against the Box Hill Hawks on ANZAC Day.

Jay Schulz made a surprise appearance for Coburg's reserves last Saturday against Port Melbourne. Schulz played half a game and pulled up well. He should also play for Coburg seniors this week.

CATCHING UP WITH.....

Dean Limbach is one our young recruits from the 2004 National Draft. Dean's been playing for Coburg reserves and has been listed in their best players which is pleasing from a development point of view. At the Club family day earlier in the year I (and another OER regular) had chat to Dean and from the family day and more recently the Cubs Picnic I bring you a funny story. One of the first thing you notice when you speak to Dean is a rather large scar on his forearm. It is also a great topic of conversation. You see this scar is from having a plate inserted after a really bad broken arm in his TAC Cup days. While we were talking about his scar Dean mentioned that you can feel the screws that hold the plate in his arm. Dean asked us if we were up to the challenge of find the screws in his arm. Never one to let the opportunity of a "unique" footy experience pass me by - I obliged. In a word - WIERD!

Fast forward the to the Cub's picnic and a 10 year old boy who is partial to showing me his latest scars from his motorbike escapdes. From that I thought the idea of seeing an AFL Footballers scar as well as feeling the above mentioned screws would impress the youngster. Boy was I wrong! When we went up to Dean to get his autograph I asked Master Tiger Cub if he wanted to see a really great scar and try and find the screws in Dean's arm. Master 10 said with a look of absolute horror while trying desperately to screw up his nose - NO WAY.

Oh well at least I tried. So despite my best efforts the opportunity for this unique experience for my Cub ended in a massive anti-climax. However, can I suggest if you ever get the chance to chat with Dean and your are big kid like me ask him about those screws in his arm - he'll be happy to show you.

AND FINALLY..........

And my final word...

Mark down the next Club80 function in your calendar. Tuesday May 3rd at 7.00pm. The following players will be in attendance Daniel Jackson, Tom Roach, Andy Krakouer, and Shane Tuck. Cost is $50 for Club80 members and $100 non-members. If you never been to Club80 function I can thoroughly recommend it. These functions are a great opportunity to get to meet the Tiger players in a relaxed atmosphere. For further details or to make a booking contact: Club80@bigpond.com.

What a great start to the season. The Tigers sit 5th on the ladder at 3-1 although I reckon we all agree that the big tests are over the next couple of weeks when we face St Kilda and Port Adelaide (both at Telstra Dome). It will be good opportunity to see how much we have improved.

But there was something else that happened last week that was great for both the short and long term future of the Club. That was, of course, the announcement of the AFG becoming our new joint major sponsor joining Motorola. I will admit to being extremely concerned about our ability to find a new major sponsor, especially when you consider how difficult other AFL clubs have found getting sponsors. I am also pleased to say my fears were unfounded - kudos to Steven Wright and his team on stitching up the deal.

What it did make me realise is that is just how big our Club can be once we get the sustained success we all want and deserve. Without doubt something for us all to look forward too

Keep prowling
