Footy Comes Back to Punt Road and Guess Who Misses Most of the Game?

26.05.04

Perhaps the "prowling gods" were conspiring against me. Perhaps my fortunes on Sunday the 23rd of May followed those of our senior team from the Saturday night. Who knows but by the end of Sunday's Coburg game I had managed to watch about 20 minutes of footy.

Hence why this week's "On the Prowl" is rather short and condensed. Let me explain. I was at the game - I just didn't get to see much of the game or do any great amounts of catching up.

Earlier in the week I received a phone call asking if I would be available to help out during the course day and and as result I worked for nearly the entire game as a volunteer. Conspiracy? No just WP trying to help the Club out.

While working my fingers to the bone and as I have mentioned on the OER forum I did have a brief chat to our captain Wayne Campbell. As posted on the OER forum Cambo joked with me that the reason he sat out the final quarter was because he is getting "old". We also spoke about Greg Stafford and Brad Ottens and on Sunday, Cambo's view was that both should be right for our match against the Eagles.

So the end result of my Sunday was one chat and 20 minutes of footy. All I can say is the intentions were good but the execution slightly astray.

Bring on Perth, bring on the THC luncheon and hopefully a more fruitful week of "prowling".

AND FINALLY..........

WillliamPowell's TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK

The answer to last weeks trivia question was Diadora

This weeks trivia question:

Name the Players and Number of Goals:

Who was the Tigers leading goal kickers in 1964, 1970 and 1978 and how many goals did they kick?

Answer next Week

Where do we go from here?

Please forgive me as this weeks "On the Prowl" takes a slightly different turn because I suppose I am about to offer an editorial. Though, it is hard not to when our Club is the lead story in The Age and on the TV News respective sports reports.

The events of the last 12 hours resulting in this afternoon's resignation of Ian Campbell leads to the question we as Club seem to be faced with far to often: where do we go from here?

I have read people's opinions on the OER Forum with interest and want to reiterate what I said earlier on the OER Forum. The time has come for the Club to be upfront and tell us what the hell is going on. As members we have a right to know exactly what the current financial situation is. I would implore the RFC to be honest with us the members because after 20 years of frustration, disappointment and heartache I think we are all big enough and tough enough to handle the truth. One thing that has been shown by Richmond members is that we are loyal despite what is thrown at us.

Repay the loyalty with a bit of honesty - we deserve it.

And my final word.....

Another CEO in the AFL bites the dust. The turnover rate seems extraordinary. Who would want to do it? History tells us that it takes a speacial person to last in this sort of job. The RFC's big test is to find not only the right person for the job but the right person for the RFC as well.

Certainly interesting times ahead..............
