When the draw for season 2005 was released I reckon all Tiger fans were happy to see that the team only
had to make 3 interstate trips for 2005. In 2005 my trip to Adelaide was going to take in just a little
more than footy.
One of my footy goals for 2005 is to see all 22 home & away games. Three interstate trips has
made it possible. I had booked the flight for this trip back in December 2004. The flight over was almost as interesting
as the game itself as I had the opportunity to play "SPOT THE CELEBRITY"!
First on my flight was TV Commentator Robert Walls. Now in the celebrity spotting stakes I suppose Wallsy
is on the lower end of the scale but a TV talking head surely qualifies for as a minor achievement in
"Celebrity Spotting". Next up was Jarrod Malloy who was obviously going over to do special
comments for ABC radio. In a similar vein to Robert Walls, I think it's fair to say that Jarrod is probably even lower
down the scale than Wallsy only because he is on the ABC.
Which brings me to the major prize in my day celebrity spotting.
While waiting for my flight I headed off to "Hungry Jacks" for a spot of lunch. While enjoying
our food there was a group of about 15 people who were busy ordering "Hungry Jacks" and pizza.
As I was howing into my final nugget I was told that one of guys standing over near "Hungry Jacks" was the
R&B artist Nelly. Now I have to admit that this meant very little to me, actually it meant
absolutely nothing to me but guaging by the reaction of a number of the young blokes who were heading
off for the Under 16 Championships in Queensland this Nelly bloke is very popular.
But my time the music man didn't end at "Hungry Jacks". Nelly and his rather large entourage
were on my flight to Adelaide. They were seated throughout the plane, I had 2 across from me,
another 2 three rows back from me. I have no idea where my mate Nelly was because he headed to the back of the
plane with his very big minder. In my book this was a case of "Celebrity Spotting Gold" even if I had no idea who the celebrity
was.
Oh... on my flight home on Sunday I shared the plane with Terry Wallace and the other Tiger coaches who were getting
an early flight back to enable them to catch the Coburg game later that afternoon.
