We've now got quite a few lower number guernseys available and possibly have one or two more more after the trade/delist period.
Currently free: 10, 12, 13, 14, 18, 22, 23, 24.
Who do you think will get a lower number guernsey for 2023 and what number do you think they will move to?
-
Sonsie 10
Gibcus 12
Cumberland 13
Taranto 14
MRJ 18
-
Be interesting to see if Dan Rioli changes numbers once he hits 100 in 17.
I recall there being talk of this so MJR may stay the same for another season if that's the case
-
MRJ will stay in number 49 to honour his Dad
Unless of course number 27 the other number his Dad wore at Richmond becomes available
And based on how the current number 27 has been treated the back half of 2022 that is a distinct possibility
My thoughts on the others
Miller = 18
Sonsie = 12
Gibcus = 23
Taranto will get whatever he wants

No chance Dow gets delisted! That just won't happen
-
Sonsie 10
Gibcus 12
Taranto 14
Miller 16 (Aarts to be delisted)
Ralphsmith 22
13 to be thrown in the bin for good
-

Who said anything about him being delisted?
There's this fun and games period coming up called trade.
Don't think he is immune to being available to get any deal done
-
My guess:
Sonsie 10
Gibcus 12
Taranto 14
Hopper 16 ..... (Aarts delisted)
Miller 18
Cumberland 22
ND53: 36 ..... (Martyn delisted)
RD12: 37
-
Hopper might go 22 given he was 2 at the giants.
-
Hopper -23 feels right
-
Yeah I feel Hopper will be 22 or 23

Taranto, Hopper guernsey numbers revealed
By Tony Greenberg
Richmond Media
25 November 2022
Richmond’s two prized, mature-age, midfield recruits via last month’s trade period, Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper, will wear guernsey numbers 14 and 22 respectively in their playing careers at Tigerland.
Taranto had the No. 14 during his six-year stint with Greater Western Sydney, while Hopper wore No. 2 at the Giants across seven seasons.
The No. 14 and No. 22 have proven to be highly-successful numbers at Richmond for players recruited from rival AFL clubs.
Bachar Houli, the previous owner of the Tigers’ No. 14 guernsey, played a pivotal role in three premierships with the Club as a rebounding defender after crossing over from Essendon.
Josh Caddy, recruited by Richmond from Geelong, was a valuable contributor in two premierships for the Tigers, wearing the No. 22 guernsey.
And, throughout the 1980s, Barry Rowlings starred in the No. 22 with Richmond following his recruitment from Hawthorn. He was a key member of the Tigers team that crushed Collingwood in the 1980 Grand Final.

Thought hopper would go the double 2. Hopefully Taranto plays as well for us in grand finals as the previous #14.

Hugo is moving from 45 to 13 in 2023. Same jumper number trajectory as his dad at St Kilda.

Ralphsmith said it was "unbelievable" to be continuing the family tradition.
"I loved the No. 45 and dad wore 45, and now transitioning to a lower number in 13, you can't ask for anything more," he said.
"He's had a big inspiration to my footy and growing up, he was my junior footy coach, so he's always had a big influence.
"So, to get the number that he wore when he played his best footy, it's pretty special."

Maurice shifting to Shane Edwards No.10

Great guernsey honour for young Rioli
By Tony Greenberg, Richmond Media - 1 hr ago
Maurice Rioli Jnr has been handed the No. 10 Richmond guernsey made famous in recent Tigerland history by triple premiership star Shane Edwards, who retired at the end of the 2022 season following an illustrious 303-game playing career at the Club.
It was Edwards’ decision to pass the No. 10 on to the exciting Tiger cub.
Rioli wore the No. 49 in 17 senior games over the course of his first two years of AFL football with Richmond, 15 of those appearances coming during an impressive 2022 season where he kicked 14 goals and provided the Tigers’ team with a significant boost through the elite defensive pressure he applied in his small forward role.
He is greatly honoured to accept Edwards’ offer of succeeding him in the No. 10 Yellow and Black guernsey.

Nah Gibbo for sure. Assbury will give it to him.

Kaleb Smith, has been allocated the No. 49 guernsey upon request, as it was the number he wore during his promising WA cricket career, as well as that of his cricketing idol, Steve Smith.
Richmond’s second selection, Steely Green, receives the No. 48 that dual premiership Tiger Liam Baker initially wore in his Punt Road playing career.
Rookie picks Seth Campbell and Tylar Young will wear No. 44 and No. 45 respectively.
