Tasmanian Seth Campbell has been picked up by the Tigers as a rookie.
He can play all over the ground but performed best as a half-forward.
-
SNAPSHOT: “A clever and crafty forward who works opponents over up the ground, and hurts them on the way back to goal.”
A late addition to the National Combine list, Seth Campbell has been made to prove himself in 2022. The Burnie native emerged as one to watch after Tasmania’s Under 17 clash with Queensland last year, and quickly became a key cog in the Devils’ mid-forward rotation as a top-ager.
Campbell averaged 19 touches, 4.7 inside 50s and over a goal per his 13 NAB League games this season, earning Allies selection and even breaking through for a senior TSL berth with North Launceston. It was there where he produced arguably his standout performance, booting 10.6 from 32 disposals to leap firmly onto the draft radar.

Campbell joins Richmond via rookie draft
Richmond has used its first selection in the 2022 rookie draft (No. 12 overall) to recruit Tasmania Devils high forward/midfielder Seth Campbell.
Recruited from: Tasmanian Devils
Position: High forward/midfielder
Height: 182cm
Weight: 73kg
DOB: 29/12/2004
What the Richmond recruiters say about Campbell...
"Seth originally played his football with the Burnie Football Club before playing senior football with North Launceston in 2022.
"He was a strong contributor for his Tasmania U18 NAB League side, playing 13 games this year as a running midfielder and averaging 19 disposals while kicking 16 goals. His form was rewarded with selection into the Allies U18 team where he played three matches, his best game coming against South Australia where he recorded 15 disposals and two goals.
"He also managed 10.6 from 32 disposals at senior level in just his third league game for North Launceston earlier this year.
"We like his footy smarts, running strength and ball use. He has class with his feet while also seeing the game well to get into dangerous positions in the flow of play. He is a dangerous goalkicker."

Again not really sure this is what we needed, although the club maintains we draft on talent only.
We have a surplus of mids now with Taranto and Hopper coming in.
Cumberland, MRJ, Bolton our first in small forwards. Clarke and Castagna in the magoos.
Good luck to him but meh, still leaves me feeling exposed about our KPF stocks.
-
another small another safe bet who may get senior games but will be nothing special.

‘Family bleeds yellow and black’: Tassie draftee ready for Tiger Land
Up until this week he’d clashed with his family over their support of Richmond, but this Tassie AFL draftee says he’ll have no issues joining the Tiger Train as he begins his dream AFL career.

Tassie Devils coach Jeromey Webberley believes Seth Campbell is an ideal fit for Richmond, who secured the services of the talented, young forward via the AFL’s rookie draft earlier this week.
Campbell produced a string of impressive performances for the Tassie Devils in the NAB League competition throughout the 2022 season.
Webberley, who played 16 senior games with Richmond from 2010-12, envisages the 17-year-old eventually having a significant impact at Tigerland.
“Seth is an exciting prospect,” Webberley told The Mercury newspaper.
“He’s small (182cm, 73kg), but he’s got really good leg speed and endurance and loves a goal . . . he kicked 10.6 in a state league game against North Hobart.
“His last two years have been outstanding in the Devils program. This year he had some awesome games.
“He’s going to provide a lot of excitement for Richmond in their forward half. He’s a real Richmond type player with that leg speed and defensive pressure, and a really nice finisher.
“I’m really excited about what Seth is going to deliver at Richmond.”

It was in just his third game of senior football with Tasmanian club North Launceston that Seth Campbell produced one of the best-ever performances by a young player in the TSL competition.
Playing against North Hobart at North Hobart Oval late in the 2022 home-and-away season, the clever forward, who has been likened to veteran Hawthorn star Luke Breust, racked up 32 disposals and kicked 10 goals (10.6).

Of our newbies, Seth was the one that stood out today for mine. Seemed to work hard off the ball to run to the right spots to create options and with the ball finished off well kicking a couple of goals.
-
Off to hospital with that lower leg/ankle injury :(.
-
Poor bastard's cursed.... :facepalm
-
To go straight to hospital you'd think it might be broken
-

If i could id like to retract that statement. Ive watched him as best i can and done a bit of digging since that post.
Yes he is a small and as such as a late pick a likely safe bet but i keep going back to some glimpses here and there and i think he has a fair bit to offer. You see Some things and they just stick in the mind if people can get that.
-
Took notice of small fwd #SethCampbell's fine 3rd place finish in the recent 2km time trial. The 19yr old livewire was showing plenty at the start of last season before his untimely injury. Seems past his issues now & has put in the work. Can't wait to see his game unleashed.

Has a touch of class does Seth and his off the ball work is sensational. Hope he plays games this year.

If we are serious he should be starting in the fwd half and the aim should be he plays all year unless form warrants otherwise.

All the best to Seth in his debut on the weekend :clapping.

Good luck young fella , do the jumper proud

Battled some tough injuries last year, his first in the system.
Showed some strong qualities in the fee VFL games I watched
Congrats Seth

-
The only (albeit very small) positive so far.
-
Well done Wayne.
Well deserved. Hard work and has a crack. Has some really nice qualities.

Was very good
-
Was talking to a bloke from Burnie at the pub yesterday. Let’s just say, Seth did not have an easy private school pathway into footy. Had to work super hard. Sounds like a great kid.

Campbell’s fine first-up display
By Richmond Media
Talented, young forward Seth Campbell made an impressive debut for Richmond in last Saturday’s opening round match against Gold Coast with two top-class goals. Richmond Media caught up with him post-game for an appraisal of his debut appearance. Here is what he had to say . . .
His first goal in AFL football, from a clever snap
“I just played with instinct and the ball ended up in my lap. I was in a good position and just snapped it over the shoulder . . . Seeing it going through, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to celebrate . . . The boys just got around me and it was unbelievable.”
Strong support from Tiger teammates
“They supported me. Every time I got the ball or with my rotations or playing my structure, the boys helped me with everything like that, and they made it easier for me.”
His second goal, from a set shot
“That was awesome. That was us on the comeback and we had the momentum and it just felt awesome with the Tiger Army getting behind us.”
Easing the nerves
“It was after I kicked that first goal, everything just dropped, and I was just playing footy like I’ve been doing.
Thriving on the quick tempo
“It was very fast. I didn’t really realise how much I was running because the adrenalin was just going the whole game. But it was awesome . . . amazing. I loved every minute of it.”

Disagree. Kicked a huge goal in the last when Mansell, Lynch, Bolton miss goals they should kick. May not have one every contest but he has a crack this kid. Loved his spoil that resulted in Balta goal in the 2nd.
-
Was still well down on last week - to be expected - no big deal at this stage.... :shh
-
Just keep playing him. Needs and deserves a run of games.
So much to like

Exactly
-
Could be the cleanest player on the list. His hands are so sticky and I am yet to see him double grab. Class.
-
Seems like Seth, mrj, Cumberland, coulthard are all competing for the same spot. Would expect different combinations of the 4 throughout the year. Campbell has impressed me though
-
Looks to have great balance and footy nous and most importantly he doesn't panic.
Skills aren't the worst in the team but many of our more experienced players could learn a thing or two watching his second and third efforts. I really like his pressure on the ball carrier and he isn't scared to take the game on and show his ability. :thumbsup

Beat me to it was looking for this thread when it popped up.
Reckon we have found one with him and i think he should be groomed to also be a part of midfield rotations.
-
Another excellent effort today.

Equal most inside 50s for us with 8.
Seth's game today:
14 disposals (11k, 3h, 5c, 9u, 42.9 eff.)
2 marks
1 tackle
8 inside 50s
2 intercepts
416 metres gained
3 score involvements
1 goal assist
1 behind
81% time on ground
-
They just have to keep playing this kid
What find he has been
-
Another real solid performance i think he could play mid field for us as well.
-
Is perfect where he is. Looked great and opportunities to make a huge mark on this game but snuffed a couple of relatively easy shots on goal
-
A find

Seth Campbell has forced his way into Richmond’s senior side in 2024.
The Tasmanian small forward battled injuries last year which restricted him to just five VFL games and as a rookie draft selection, not many expected him to come on so quickly.
After five games, the 19-year-old is third at the club for inside 50s with 19, has provided four goal assists (equal third with Dustin Martin), and is equal seventh for score involvements with 19.

YOUNG TIGER EYES TRIGGER
RICHMOND rookie Seth Campbell will trigger a contract extension after the Tigers' early-season bye.
The 19-year-old was limited to just five VFL games in his first season at Punt Road due to injury and only secured an extension in September.
But after a strong pre-season, new Richmond coach Adem Yze rewarded him with a debut and has played the Tasmanian across the first six games of the 2024 season.
Campbell kicked two games against Gold Coast in Opening Round and has shown he can handle the intensity at AFL level since then, rewarding the club’s faith in him last year.
Seth Campbell snaps through his first goal at AFL level to give his side a much-needed major late in the second term
Richmond is expected to rework an extension in the coming weeks for Campbell and reward the small forward with a two-year deal.
Tigers GMs Blair Hartley and Tim Livingstone have a number of list management decisions to make this year on a wide range of premiership players.
Dustin Martin, Dion Prestia, Dylan Grimes, Toby Nankervis, Kamdyn McIntosh and Jack Graham are all out of contract.
Unlike the names above, Liam Baker is not a free agent but is out of contract and is weighing up his future.
While those decisions will take time, Campbell's early-season rise has taken care of one piece of list management for Richmond. – Josh Gabelich

Na would be a very good mid why pencil him in as only a forward when he could be so much more.
If i thought he had the tank, atm id be wanting him to play on a wing instead of the two ancient has beens we keep picking there.
