Title: Changes for next week against the Power?
Post by: one-eyed on March 14, 2024, 10:27:49 PM
3 forced changes with Prestia (hammy, Gibcus (ACL) and Young (concussion).

Fire away with your changes?

It dosent matter. The umpires will stuff us over again and we’ll lose anyway.

Don’t see the point in persisting with Prestia.
Some hard changes. Would like to make a few others but it will probably
Be restricted to these 3 forced ones.

I think sonesie can play now ?

Sonesie for Prestia
Brown for gibcus
Miller for young… I suppose. Has Miller even be playing backline ?

Really don’t want balta to play back, he was so much more dynamic tonight.

Our backline is f’ed basically.

Sorry but M Rioli cannot be played in this team.  4 possessions and his opponents ran off him all night.  Not fit enough still. Play Clarke.

Why Mansell, for the missed goal? He had plenty of positive plays tonight as mentioned by duckwood in the commentators box.

Agree, take out the goal brain fade, Mansell was a solid contributor in that negative small forward role. People love to hate him.

Kosi was drafted by Hawthorn as a KPD and was so abysmal they moved him forward...so forget that idea - for now at least...Miller & Brown should come in...Mcauliffe for Prestia....Clarke & Coulthard to the wings for Heckle & Jeckle.... :shh

So we are playing two purely negative small fwds then. No wonder we cannot kick big scores.

Mansell was ordinary and mrj hardly touched the ball at least one of them needs to go.

My changes would go

Miller - Gibcus
Kosi  -  Young
McAuliffe - Prestia.

So far all like for like replacements.

Clarke - Mansell.  Clarke just played a blinder and is an actual fwd.
Brown - McIntosh. enough of the fumbles and mistakes please. Rioli to wing and Brown to hb.

People are going to defend MRJ because he actually laid some tackles for once, but he had just 4 touches, you could count on your fingers the number of times he has touched the ball in two games he  gives very little offensively.

Nathan Broad is another who has done stuff all in two games along with Grimes.

Our main problems atm are lack of pace, skills and poor tackling - listing their sprint times,  DE% & avg tackles would be more relevant.... :shh

If pace is a problem for us then it’s a huge problem for Blues.
Tackling and general pressure on the ball carrier is the big deficiency that needs fixing.
It looks a little better this year and was a heap better Thursday vs round zero however Carlton walked the ball through the midfield far too easily and their forwards had way too much space when ball was locked in there. Some of our ball watching is u11’s standard

Based on the Coach's presser I don't think either will be dropped but IMV if one was going to be dropped I'd go Pickett because of his huge momentum killers in the last qtr and because he doesn't cover the kms that Kmac does and we need.

I thought broad was ok. Flew for everything and put his body on the line when we were outsized for height

You don't say ::). Have that covered with my ins. Besides the most pressing need we now have is finding not one but two kpd's for next week.
And yes i do need to list players weights and sizes. Its pretty obvious why.:shh

Tall Tiger Ben Miller's time could be now after defender's ACL heartbreak

By Sarah Black
afl.com.au
18 March 2024

AFTER playing 25 games over seven years, the door may now be open for Ben Miller to firmly and finally establish himself in Richmond's best side, following Josh Gibcus' ACL rupture.

Miller, 24, was selected with pick No.63 in the 2017 AFL Draft, a mixed draft haul that landed Richmond Noah Balta, Jack Higgins (St Kilda), Callum Coleman-Jones (North Melbourne) and Pat Naish (delisted, via West Coast).

Liam Baker also joined the club via the Rookie Draft at the same time.

While Baker and Balta have cemented themselves as fan favourites and among the first picked every week, Miller has spent the vast majority of his seven-year career in the VFL.

He made his debut in the final round of 2021, adding 24 games over the next two years.

Miller has been called upon in every conceivable situation – cover for ruck Toby Nankervis, filling in for Tom Lynch in attack, and slotting into the backline when Dylan Grimes or Balta have been unavailable, but would end up back in the twos when the more senior player returned.

The automatic assumption is that coach Adem Yze will immediately return Balta to the backline, but in the absence of cloning technology, the Tigers arguably have a greater need to keep him in attack, with other forward options being dropped duo Jacob Koschitzke and Samson Ryan.

"[Balta has] produced two really strong games, and for him, it's around consistency – he's got a goal around being really consistent. I'm really buoyed about what he's doing as a ruck and a power forward, so if we have to cover the other end, I'll be leaning towards bringing in another key defender, and not throwing him back just yet," Yze said.

"Just based on the fact we've only seen [Balta and Lynch play together] once, and in the first half it looked really potent.

"I think Ben Rutten (backline coach) might want him down back to cover for 'Youngy' (Tylar Young) or for 'Gibbo', but I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing from Noah and 'Lynchy'. It's only been a small sample size, but I hope we can keep going with it."

Tylar Young will miss at least this week's match against Port Adelaide due to concussion, meaning the Tigers will need to bring in another defender alongside Miller.

While there's no real other key defensive option, Koschitzke has spent some time in the backline during his time at Hawthorn.

Mid-sized defensive options include Tom Brown and James Trezise, with Nathan Broad and Nick Vlastuin capable of switching to a lockdown role, allowing one of the younger pair to provide rebound.

Miller will wanna pull his finger out and show some aggression. Moves so well for a bloke his size but it’s like he doesn’t realise he’s much bigger than most players. Crack in mate

He should feel embarrassed that Young has leap frogged him . He’s been on the list as long as Balta . It’s now or never for Miller .
Apparently he played really well last week- so that’s encouraging.

Don't think we have a choice. Balta to the backline along with Miller.
Trezise to HB and lets see what Broad and Short can offer on the wings.

How about Naismith to ruck and Toby to the fwd pocket.

Clarke Campbell and Cumberland to the fwd line. On the fwd half, we got Koschitzke to play there play him. Its not ideal form wise atm i know.
Worst case scenario is if Kosi flops we sub him out and play Lefau from sub.

McAuliffe instead of any of Dow, Ross and of course Prestia.

Make Lefau the sub

Team
Vlastuin - Miller - Grimes
Trezise - Balta - Rioli

Broad - Taranto - Short/Banks. Its a good role for Short its also a spot we need to get games into kids like banks.
Naismith - Martin - Bolton. Think Sam a better option against Soldo.

Clarke - Koschitzke/Lefau - Campbell
Nankervis - Lynch - Cumberland

Hopper - McAuliffe - Baker - Brown.
Lefau

The only trouble it would require about 9 changes id be happy to see them all except for the Koschitzke one which i think is forced upon us.
