Speaking in South Carolina today, Jeb Bush said (via CNN’s Jake Tapper), “If this election is about how we’re going to fight to get nothing done, then I don’t want anything, I don’t want any part of it. I don’t want to be elected president to sit around and see gridlock just become so dominant that people literally are in decline in their lives. That is not my motivation. I’ve got a lot of really cool things I cold do other than sit around, being miserable, listening to people demonize me and feeling compelled to demonize them. That is a joke. Elect Trump if you want that.”

I guess you can't complain about what you get then can you.
The 'nazi' bank of international settlements runs the world, or at least a pretty big part or it (sounds strange, but look into it's it's sadly fair dinkum ...)
And here we are left bickering over two puppets that are essentially the same thing ...

Organisers of the 5 November Million Mask March predicted the "largest global protest" in history.
Thousands wearing Guy Fawkes masks gathered in London and Washington DC, joined by similar protests across the globe - from Canada to Guatemala to the Netherlands. Marchers carried placards with sayings such as "One solution, revolution" and "A for anarchy". Most were peaceful - some were not.
What is the Million Mask March?
Promoted by Anonymous, an international group of hacking activists, the march is a protest against corruption in power. It coincides with Bonfire Night in the UK, which commemorates the date Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.

Obama: 'the internet erases the distance between countries' and helps terrorists 'poison minds'

Göring: Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.
Gilbert: There is one difference. In a democracy, the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.
Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was also a favorite of the arms producing giants during her 2006 senate campaign.
Hillary Clinton has received more money from arms and military service companies than any other candidate during the 2016 presidential campaign, data from Open Secrets shows.
All but one of the world’s 10 biggest arms producers have contributed to Clinton’s previous campaigns, giving her — along with the top Republican receiver Ted Cruz — a significant margin over the other candidates

....Exactly how tight is the friendship between former President and potential future first gentleman Bill Clinton and Mr. Epstein, who owns a private island in Florida and is now accused of having sex with girls as young as 12 and procuring young girls for sex with other friends of his? What was Bill Clinton doing on the island with Mr. Epstein on multiple occasions and why did he fly overseas on Mr. Epstein’s plane at least 10 times?
What hardball PR and legal tactics will Hillary Clinton’s campaign use to try to make this potential problem—which could potentially derail her planned presidential bid—disappear? Will those tactics work, or is Ms. Clinton’s campaign already dead, even if the exact time of the funeral is not yet known?

PHONEBANK FOR SOUTH CAROLINA | berniesanders.com/south-carolina/[M] [score hidden] 3 hours ago stickied comment
Nevada showed us again that all of our hard work is paying off. We closed a 25 point gap to just a few percentage points in just a few weeks. Nevada was supposed to be in the bag for Hillary and we proved otherwise. Every single one of us needs to be proud of our hard work. Time and again, we are noticing that our efforts are making a difference.
Now is the time we must remind ourselves that we need every single person to be involved. We must keep moving forward. There are dozens of states approaching in the next few weeks. We have the enthusiasm and the momentum, it is up to us to channel it constructively.
Every phone call matters. Every door we knock on matters. Every flyer we hand out matters. Every article we share on social media matters. Every conversation we have about Bernie matters.
We need you to be participating and sharing with others what you're doing. We are strongly encouraging everyone to create submissions reflecting their activism. This may include what is happening on-the-ground in South Carolina, Super Tuesday states, or in your state. We need to hear more stories about your recent phonebanking, pictures from voter registration drives, and brief journal entries about your canvassing. Through our own form of show-and-tell, we will motivate one another while creating our own support network to help with q&a for first timers.
As Bernie relentlessly reminds us -- when we stand together, there is nothing nothing that will stop us.
That said, here are ways for you to have an impact!
SOUTH CAROLINA
Can you vote?
If you are in South Carolina and are eligible to vote, see https://vote.berniesanders.com/sc
Register to Vote
Find registration information about your state at http://vote.berniesanders.com
Can you volunteer?
If you can volunteer in South Carolina, see www.berniesanders.com/South-Carolina/
If you are in a Super Tuesday state, visit your campaign office asap.
You can find a list of official campaign offices with phone numbers and addresses here http://map.berniesanders.com. If you're traveling into the state to volunteer, reach out to an office and let them know you're coming. They'll plug you in right away.
Can you carpool?
If you're traveling into South Carolina or a Super Tuesday state and want to find or offer a carpool, post here https://go.berniesanders.com/page/event/create
Can you provide volunteer housing?
If you're a resident in South Carolina or a Super Tuesday state and want to extend housing to incoming volunteers, please post your listing at www.BernieBnB.com. Clearly, for those coming to the state, give the site a visit for a place to stay.
For the rest of us, PHONEBANK.
Phonebanking feeds in the data which volunteers rely on to know who is strongly supporting Bernie and who is leaning Bernie so that we can mobilize them on election night. This is a crucial part of our process and we need as many people phonebanking or texting for Bernie as possible. It's very easy and you can even do it in your down time at home. More information on how you can phonebank from home here https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/phonebank
If you're nervous about phonebanking, see these posts. I promise you it is a piece of cake. Everything is provided for you -- even the scripts from which you can read.

I'd doubt it. Clinton stands as a conservative democrat. If she ran with Bernie on her ticket, it might motivate conservative fence sitters to vote Republican, whereas she might still get the vote with someone else. Its the same reason why Labor and the Greens publicly never align themselves.

With a heavy dose of their typical bluntness, the German government created a website dedicated to teaching the influx of Middle Eastern immigrants the ins and outs of sex — literally and figuratively — in German culture.
In some places, the site offers advice on how to interact with, and be respectful of, gays and lesbians and members of the opposite sex. In other places, the site is a de facto instruction manual for how to have sex in different ways and in different positions.

CNN aired a 3 minute segment earlier this week that can only be described as jaw-dropping. Watch it for yourself. Go on, watch it.
It’s almost too unbelievable to take in what you’re watching. CNN is giving air time to an Al Qaeda spokesman to talk about how they’ve changed their name so it’s now perfectly good and logical for the West to be supporting them in Syria now.

Apparently, when the Arabic word "داعش” (Daesh) was typed into Bing Translate, the words "Saudi Arabia” would appear as the English translation, according to Khaberni.
The so-called technical error caused an uproar in Saudi Arabia, where many Saudi social media users called for a boycott of Bing and Microsoft.
The Microsoft Corporation has formally issued an apology to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, calling the error "unintentional”.

Mark J. Green coined the exact phrase in a 1974 article discussing the utility company, Con Ed.[7][8]
The sentiment was earlier expressed in the adage "Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor", which was in use by the 1960s, and the notion of privatizing profits and socializing losses dates at least to 1834 and Andrew Jackson's closing of the Second Bank of the United States.

Trump would have a better chance if the presidency was decided on a straight majority of voters. The Electoral college system helps Clinton. Trump would need to win all the swing states and pinch one or two states that have voted Democrat since at least 2000.

Early counting in the US midterms
House of Reps: R 40 - D 35 ... Democrats have gained three seats so far.
(there's 435 seats all up and the Dems would need to gain 23+ seats
to gain control the House).
Senate: R 42 - D 31 ....... no change in seats so far
(100 seats all up. Polls pointed to Republicans holding the Senate).

-
House of Reps: R 139 - D 131 ... Democrats have gained 14 seats (need 23+).
Fox News projecting the Dems to win the House.
Senate: R 50 - D 38 ...... Republicans have gained two seats.
So they'll easily keep their Senate majority.

The interesting thing is the further polarisation of the US vote. According to US media reports, moderates on both sides are apparently not doing well.

Multiple US networks now projecting the Democrats to win the House. Republicans hold onto the Senate.
House of Reps: R 155 - D 153 ... Democrats have gained 18 seats (need 23+).

would be so funny if big man trump wins a second term.
The leftys wont know where to turn. I suppose he has already been impeached 2 years ago i their eyes
-
The American system is very different to ours and the presidential vote is two years away so no one even knows who his Democrat opponent will be. So, of course Trump can still realistically win a second term. They also have voluntary voting so any result depends on how many supporters of either side are motivated to turn up to vote and their electoral college system means a presidential vote can be won without needing to win the popular vote. He won't care if more and more Californians and New Yorkers vote against him as they are already Democrat states. If Trump holds onto Florida, Ohio and Iowa in 2020 then he'll win again. Based on the midterm results that's a possibly in those states. Trump won't then care after that as long as the Republicans hold majority in the US Senate so he can't be impeached.

Still hilariously ironic seeing the left so staunchly defending the EU....that most capitalist, neo-conservative of creations that was designed to keep the wages of the working classes down..... :shh
-
Yet the neo-conservative right hates the EU and want to break it up just as they hate the UN. If the left are viewed as globalists and the right as nationalists then each other's stance fits with these respective views.
The EU (and the EEC that preceded it) was born out of the idea of preventing another devastating European war based on nationalism. It also was seen as a means to unite Western Europe as a stronger economic block and in the NATO alliance with the USA against (Soviet) Russia and its satellite states behind the iron curtain. The old iron curtain is gone but Russia is still seen as a threat especially under Putin (eg: occupation of Crimea & its incursions into Ukraine).
As for Brexit: Of course it'll never happen but the re-unification of Ireland would solve the main sticking point of the NI border issue :whistle :outtahere.
-
If you think neo-cons are in any way, shape or form "nationalists"......then you're as gullible as you are ignorant & misinformed... :shh

If you think neo-cons are in any way, shape or form "nationalists"......then you're as gullible as you are ignorant & misinformed... :shh
Not traditional pro-big business free trade neo-cons of the 80s/90s but the "populist" alt-right ones of today who oppose and want to leave or break up any supernational/global treaty or organisation (which they ridiculously call socialism). Laughable to deny Farage and Tory Brexiteers, Le Pen, Trump & especially his supporters, Putin, etc are not nationalists.
Anyway, no deflection hides Britain being in a mess thanks to Brexit.
-
The "right" isn't just one homogeneous mass with a a single set of beliefs....there's no "alt-right" or "populist" neo-cons.....they're nothing to do with the alt-right and are generally as opposed to them as the left are.....all the NeverTrump Republicans like McCain were/are neo-cons....hell Globalist anti-Nationalist poster boy Macron's a classic centre-right neo-con .....in fact the left are as often the unwitting shills and useful idiots of neo-cons as they are anyone... :shh
...and Britain is not a mess thanks to Brexit, the Conservative Party is...Britain will soon be a mess if that delusional Marxist halfwit Corbyn and his comrades and cohorts of dopey eternal undergraduates win the next election.. :shh :shh

Of course, both the "left" and the "right" aren't homogeneous and what defines each branch varies from country to country. In Asia, both the left and right were/are nationalist as both 'sides' in the 19-20th centuries opposed foreign influence (Japan, China) and colonial rule (Vietnam, India).
Macron is centre-right but he isn't a neo-con. A neo-con rejects the post-1960s social revolution and is socially conservative. Technically, neo-conservatism applies to American politics. Neo-con is used more as a pejorative term elsewhere just like "the use of the word "left". As 65 said it's "words".
...and Britain is not a mess thanks to Brexit, the Conservative Party is...Britain will soon be a mess if that delusional Marxist halfwit Corbyn and his comrades and cohorts of dopey eternal undergraduates win the next election.. :shh :shh
Britain is in limbo thanks to Brexit as no one (eg: business) can plan beyond March 29 and the main problems with this current Brexit deal won't be resolved by then (hence this "backstop" idea over the Northern Ireland border). It was an undefined referendum and now the Brits are paying for it. It will also cost another PM her job (even if May wins this leadership spill) so the uncertainty will only continue for longer. It's an utter shambles and it's all self-inflicted!
As an Aussie, I couldn't care less who wins the next UK election. It's not as though Britain is a world power anymore. It's not my homeland either, thank god ;D. The underlying issues over there won't go away whatever happens. The economic centre of the world is moving to the Asia-Pacific region and away from the Atlantic. Great for us; not good for them.
ps. Got to laugh at the "stability" and "leadership" that their useless monarchy provides too :lol. More concerned about making the celebrity pages these days :sleep.
-
Well apparently, May has survived the leadership spill 200-117. Angela Merkel won't need her "who ist das neu PM?" notes ;D.
-
UK Government now warning and preparing the Brits for a hard no-deal Brexit. Apparently, they can't legally have a 2nd referendum either to bail out of it. It's going so well :wallywink.
-
If the EU holds it position and doesn't now cave in on the Irish border backstop then Britain will remain in Brexit no man's land until March 29.
https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/crunch-vote-will-sink-or-save-may-as-key-vote-determines-next-brexit-phase/news-story/5bdcac04a6285a1ae58c47adebefae68

The neverending circus that is Brexit continues :rollin. Hard to see a solution to this even if a general election was called as neither British major party is united enough to command authority to gain a mandate, control their parliament and bring any certainty either way. What an utter shambles it is over there.
The only positive is if the pound keeps diving then it'll become a cheap time for us Aussies to go holiday in the UK.

Scottish independence and different trade rules for Northern Ireland compared to the rest of the UK :shh.
While Brexit will happen which will please most over there as they were/are sick to death of it, it is still only a idealistic concept. The negotiations to fill in the details still needs to occur. Brexit (or no Brexit for that matter) won't bring back the large-scale manufacturing and coal mining jobs of the industrial revolution nor the old Empire. Got to love Farage already putting out caveats (he wanted a no deal Brexit). Takes credit for this election result delivering Brexit but watch him turn on Boris if the latter's deal with the EU doesn't live up to expectations or worst turns pear shape economically.
Good news for Australian exporters though if an open free trade agreement is signed. The pommie farmers won't have anymore EU protections and subsidies to rely on. Oh well, they voted for it.

the only reason he will be found not guilty at his impeachment is because the Republicans control the House. Just like other presidents before who have been impeached he will get off ONLY because of the controlling numbers.
Funny how the Republicans are not applying their high moral code on this impeachment like they did against Clinton
Sad thing is even one of his own party members addressed the trail and said he should be found guilty and witnesses should be called but the majority of GOP members have voted to not allow witnesses which beggars belief. But like here, everyone is focusing on saving their jobs rather dong what is right

And just to balance it out job growth in the USA in the last 12 months under Trump has decreased by over 3 million.

Suggest you take your hatred goggles off and admit the don isnt doing too bad. You are right unemployment is not at record lows. Last time it was this low was in 1960 or 70 :lol :lol
They might not be the best but even a blind man can see he is doing okay when the likes of you and many others thought he would fail.
He runs the country like a business, not a charity case.
Hold a minute.. my Google's... you should try it
You quoted Donald and the ever unbiased Murdoch media :lol
You really need to read what people write. I never posted about unemployemnt being a record lows. (Though dopey Donnie did in his SOTU speech)
I posted about job growth, totally different to unemployment but whatever float your boat
When respected journalists say he isn't doing a good job and lament what their country's become then their opinion carries more weight than some ego maniac who abuses power for the fun of it
you did post about unemployment numbers. Go back 2 posts. :banghead
Wages and unemployment are not a records lows, Trump may be trumpeting that but agencies that would know are saying thst is another of his lies
tell me which agency has the unemployment numbers wrong? is it the WP Agency?
to "balance it out for you WP" Here is a link to your lovely NY times.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/fact-check-state-of-the-union-02-04
How can any of this be true, when a lot of folk said he was a loser, who is dangerous, and will eventually kill us all?? :lol :lol
Time to face facts WP the don has so far delivered.
-
Gee WP really doesn't have much of a clue here.
Amazing. We need a sour grapes emoji.
When one does a good job, a fair person would acknowledge that.
Others may have done a better job in some areas, but the Don has delivered in many others, notably against ISIS, which was at its prime under Obama, and some say was created on behalf of his actions. Who the stuff talks about those clowns anymore?

So are you now saying he lied in his SOTU address?
You quoted him, now you are saying others may have done better than Trump but that's OK he's done good on other areas.
Make up your mind Frankie? You either back what he says; Which you did originally (actually you basically quoted it as gospel) or you don't?
He has done one great thing in his 3 short years and that is he has divided a country. He's managed to do something no other President has managed in a such short time samewith than less than 45% of the vote. So we'll done Donnie.
Scary thing is and you will love this is come Novemeber he is likely to be re-elected, not because he is great President but because outside of his fear mongering the Democrats are a basket case and their leading candidate at the minute Sanders, is a bigger look that Donald
-
Funny that you call Sanders a loon. The one guy on the left that actually stays true to himself and what he's about. Hey, he's far too social for me but I respect the guy in some ways.
Perhaps if your girl Hillary had the same backbone she woudn't have been destroyed by the great Don. Perhaps if your girl Hillary and the DNC didn't rig the primaries against Sanders prior to the last election...they may have performed better! And they're trying to do the same to Sanders AGAIN. Totally corrupt
Let's be honest, you dislike Don because he said "grab em by the pussy"
-
Democrats are a basket case
Strongly agree
and their leading candidate at the minute Sanders, is a bigger look that Donald
Strongly disagree
His biggest platform is an all-payer health care system, which is what we already have in Australia. He is cast as a far left politician because of it. Its complete rubbish.
With the same views in Australia, he'd be a slightly left leaning member of the Labor party, but he has the freedom to agree and disagree with mainstream policy as he's a "rogue" Democrat. In a slightly left leaning Democracy (Sweden, Finland et al) he would be considered barely left leaning.
American politics in general sit far further right than over here.
-
Bernie "Gulag" Sanders is an avowed socialist - source -himself repeatedly on public record....universal health care aside -which would be unworkable in a country of 320 million with a deeply entrenched free market mentality and ways of doing things and would likely bankrupt it -many of his policies can indeed reasonably be described as far-left and at least on par with or similar to those of our Greens who are pretty much a far-left extremist party these days ..... :shh

Have you head of the Kilian documents?

All the Hillary supporters offended by that- while her own husband has been the subject of literally dozens of sexual assault & sexual harassment allegations and who actually did grab a young girl who was not his wife by the pussy while he was president...in the oval office...and all while she stood by him and publicly slagged off his accusers... :shh

FFS WP. of course others may have done better, How many of the 50 presidents do you actually know? How do i know if the bloke in charge in 1960 was any good. Some of his numbers have not been seen since 1960/70 so maybe they were better. He has done a great job amidst these hurdles that have been thrown at him. Imagine if he was adam goodes. The world would be in uproar.
So you asked if i liked his address. I replied that i did. Was everything he said right. Probably not so you are right, but a lot is.
I pointed out things that he said which have now been proven factually correct and you have failed yet again to prove don wrong. Can you please tell us if he HIS economy has done anything right in HIS time as president??
so now your saying he will probably win because BS is crap. Did you think the same when that cow hilary was the opponent?
-
When one does a good job, a fair person would acknowledge that.
Problem is Trump and his supporters don't do that. Obama inherited an economy from GW in dire straits and undergoing the worst recession (GFC) since the great depression. Obama had halved US unemployment by the time he left office. Yet Trump acts like he was the one who inherited an economic mess rather than unemployment figures continuing to trend down further.
History says Trump will win the election btw. The only presidents to not win a second term in the last 100 years were ones where the US was in an economic downturn (Hoover, Carter, Bush snr). Let's see though where the US economy is by 2024. US debt levels are still rising while growth has begun to slow. Trump has a history of sugar hits that start off looking good before turning sour.
Others may have done a better job in some areas, but the Don has delivered in many others, notably against ISIS, which was at its prime under Obama, and some say was created on behalf of his actions. Who the stuff talks about those clowns anymore?
Nothing in the Middle East is that simple. The Iraqis that drove ISIS out of Iraq are Shia majority (like Iran) and its parliament late last year voted for the removal of foreign (American) troops. In Syria, the Americans initially wanted to oust Assad (backed by Iran & Russia) from power by backing the opposition forces in Syria's still-ongoing Civil War. However, ISIS filled the vacuum in eastern Syria and so the Americans focused on them as a greater regional threat by supporting the Kurds as well (with air coverage). Now that the IS caliphate has collapsed (IS are still around including in other parts of the world), the Americans pretty much have abandoned their local Syrian allies and are only interested in not ticking off NATO member Turkey (enemy of the Kurds) as well as protecting certain oil supplies with a small remaining force (Trump had wanted a complete withdrawal). Assad backed by Russia and Iran (along with Turkey blocking refugees from escaping) is winning the Civil War. The growing influence of Iran (and Russia and even China) in the region is still a foreign policy problem for the US. It's why the US supports the Saudi regime (enemies of Iran) despite it also being a theocratic dictatorship. Yemen is yet another battleground between the two 'sides'. The various warring names may come and go but peace in the Middle East is sadly just wishful thinking.
-
Looks like the US presidential election will be Trump vs Biden.
Bernie had to beat Biden in Michigan today to still have any realistic chance of getting the Democratic nomination yet Biden has won. Bernie won Michigan 4 years ago against Hillary (who then lost it to Trump) so it's a major step backwards for his chances.
-
The don has delivered again. Pulls the trigger on a federal emergency package :clapping
some have predicted the floor has already been reached on wall street. Time will tell, but one thing i do believe is this will be all over in a few months and the economy will start the long way back to prosperity.

Italy is in the mess it is in; in part because the health system is crap.
You missed the point.
A fortnight your mate "don" called the coronavirus more fake news?
Last night he actually did something because suddenly it is no longer fake news. Why is that you reckon?
Under the direction your mate "don" the USA's CDA are rolling out testing at a rate of 11,000 a week compared to South Korea doing 20,000 tests a day.
Yep he's doing a stellar job a fortnight after he babbled on about it being fake news
And BTW I'm not stressed, just very disappointed to see how people are carrying in Aust with the panic buying etc.... thought we'd be better than that :-X

Talk of A$1.4 trillion (US$850 billion) stimulus package in the States including (potentially up to $1000) cash payments to each American adult.

:whistle
Both Trump and Boris have changed their tunes because the number of corona cases (since the 100th reported case) was exponentially growing on par where Italy and Iran was two weeks ago. The UK chief med said <20,000 deaths would be a 'good' outcome.

No he didn't, he called the Democrats criticism of his response to the crisis "their new hoax", not that the DNC propaganda wing that masquerades as the MSM in the US these days would ever clarify that for all the gullible fools who blindly consume their constant shytestream of hysterical agenda-driven bollocks... :shh

Another lefty nonsense banning book deliveries lol. Why does labor politics produce this level of stupidity. UK labour is the same. Labor is a disaster no wonder people used to hide gold and money in mattresses. The commies always chase the hard earned of ordinary people. They cant be trusted. Trump's quote wasn't fake ::).
“Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying this a great thing that’s happening for our country,” he said. “There’s a great day for him. It’s a great day for everybody. It’s a great day for everybody. There’s a great, great day in terms of equality.”
Yeah, I'm sure George thinks it's great he was murdered, his wife no longer has a husband and his young daughter will have to now grow up without a father ::).

No-one was arguing he didn't say the words...the point was WP claimed he said it in relation to the economy, which he never did......
What Trump actually said:
“Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement, regardless of race, color, gender, or creed. They have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement. They have to receive it. We all saw what happened last week. We can’t let that happen. Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying, “This is a great thing that’s happening for our country.” This is a great day for him. It’s a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of equality. It’s really what our Constitution requires and it’s what our country is all about.”

LOL. Crying "fake news" was a 'gotcha' tactic to deflect from Trump's comments specifically about George Floyd. Who cares what the context was. Yeah, it's a great day that George Floyd was a victim of a murder from law enforcement authorities that are meant to protect not kill and his family including his young daughter are left to pick up the pieces. Yeah, it's great, Donald ::). What an fricking idiot!

Very interesting opinion piece by former Defence Minister Christoper Pyne in yesterday's HUN (a former ScoMo minister)
Can't post a link because I read it in the hardcopy paper and I haven't got time to look for it
But it is balanced, reasoned, honest and sums up what the issues are with President Trump.
Then you have one of the most respected figures in the USA, a staunch republican, former Sec of State in Colon Powell also going whack.... They can't all be wrong and spreading fake news can they?

"Another high profile military leader in the United States has come out against President Donald Trump over his handling of the protests against racial discrimination and police brutality across the country.
Retired four-star army general Colin Powell, a registered Republican, served as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff under presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, then as secretary of state under president George W. Bush.
Speaking to CNN today, Gen Powell added his voice to the growing chorus of criticism against Mr Trump from high profile generals and admirals.
That long list of military brass now includes Mr Trump’s former secretary of defence, General James Mattis; the President’s former White House chief of staff, General John Kelly; the former commander of US forces in Afghanistan, General John Allen; the former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Admiral Mike Mullen; another former chairman, General Richard Myers; the former boss of US Special Operations Command, Admiral William McRaven; former CIA director General Mike Hayden; and the former supreme allied commander of NATO, Admiral James Stavridis."

Then you have one of the most respected figures in the USA, a staunch republican, former Sec of State in Colin Powell also going whack.... They can't all be wrong and spreading fake news can they?
Unfortunately said article is behind a paywall
While Trump tweets, his country burns
Donald Trump is unfit to be the US President, writes Christopher Pyne.
Having spent four years creating division, he’s now simply making things worse.....
Paywall link: https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCode=AAWEB_WRE170_a&dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.adelaidenow.com.au%2Fnews%2Fopinion%2Fdonald-trump-is-unfit-to-be-us-president-writes-christopher-pyne%2Fnews-story%2Fc173c97b05bc1b582ef39a31bf92da6b&memtype=anonymous&mode=premium
And the comments from Powell (I've taken the Aust ABC article but you can find the same under CNN, New York Times, USA today, Reuters etc)
Leading Republican Colin Powell endorses Democrat Joe Biden over Donald Trump in US presidential election
Colin Powell said Mr Trump has lied and has "drifted away" from the US Constitution.
Former US secretary of state Colin Powell has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, joining a growing chorus of Republicans and military leaders criticising Republican President Donald Trump amid nationwide protests.
Key points:
Several groups of Republicans oppose Mr Trump's bid for a second term as president
More Republicans could come out against Mr Trump as momentum against his leadership picks up inside the party
Mr Powell's comments are seen as a rare move given his background in the Republican party and the military
Mr Powell — a Republican who led the US military during the 1991 Gulf War in Iraq and later headed the State Department — said Mr Trump "lies all the time", has "drifted away" from the US constitution and poses a danger to American democracy.
"I cannot in any way support President Trump this year," Mr Powell, who did not vote for the Republican president in 2016, told CNN.
Mr Trump responded by calling Mr Powell a "real stiff" on Twitter.
The criticism comes as the nation faces a trio of crises: widespread protests over police violence against African American men, the coronavirus pandemic and a sharp economic downturn.
It is rare for Republicans to criticise Mr Trump directly, and more so for members of the military establishment, who typically stay out of politics.
Mr Trump's former defence secretary, retired General James Mattis, last week denounced what he called Mr Trump's "deliberate" efforts to divide the country.
James Mattis recently criticised Mr Trump's response to nationwide demonstrations triggered by the killing of George Floyd.
Former joint chiefs of staff chairmen Michael Mullen and Martin Dempsey have also criticised Mr Trump's handling of the unrest.
Republican senator Lisa Murkowski said last week that she was "struggling" with whether to support Mr Trump's re-election, while Republican senator Mitt Romney praised Mr Mattis's words.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that George W Bush would not vote for Mr Trump, citing sources close to the only living Republican former president.
Many of the Republicans now criticising Mr Trump also did not vote for him in 2016.
Tim Murtaugh, a Trump campaign spokesman, said Mr Trump has record support within the Republican Party.
"However, the adoration of the liberal beltway media is alluring and powerfully attractive to some [Washington] DC insiders," he said.
Since winning the White House, Mr Trump has demanded fierce Republican loyalty.
Public denunciations from senior figures like Mr Powell could turn more people against Mr Trump.
"That doesn't do a whole lot for me. If you're not willing to say it, you may as well put on the red hat," Mr Miller said, referring to the Trump campaign's "Make America Great Again" caps.
Mr Powell said he would vote for Mr Biden, going a step further than some other Republicans who have said they do not support Mr Trump but have not backed his Democratic rival.
"I haven't voted for him, so I'm not going to start now, but that's a different question from actively supporting Biden," said Mark Sanford, the former Republican South Carolina governor who mounted a brief primary challenge to the president last year.

Not condoning the deaths, and the killers should spend years in jail, though they werent exactly good citizens were they. Wonder if the comments would be the same if it was say Georgey Pell who suffered the same fate in custody. :shh

George Floyd is a victim here and shouldnt have been killed, and he is also no more important than the the pregnant lady whose life may be ruined. A fact largely ignored in the middle of MT's commemtd where he only refers to the martyr himself, without mentioning any of his victims.

Absolute final warning
1/ enough with the insults and the pot shots from the cheap seats
2/ let the mods do the moderating. Which means...
3/ posters are not to use site rules to try and get other posters suspended (read the 3 strike policy if need be). This includes the ever popular "different rules" argument
4/ clear enough? If it isn't have a re-read of these

And
http://oneeyed-richmond.com/forum/index.php?topic=17325.0
One final thing, politics is always emotive but if there is another need to edit this thread because people cannot respect opposing views and debate respectfully or without baiting and insults then the posters of the removed threads will receive a strike.
And NO I am not interested in who started what, who did what... debate the issues only

Trump wasn't treating Floyd either as a known crim in his stupid comment about Floyd looking down and thinking it's all great. You would have to believe Floyd was a good guy to be up in heaven looking down :shh.
Two wrongs don't make a right. Yes there were victims of Floyd's criminality but Floyd's criminal history wasn't an excuse for law enforcement to choke him to death. As I said it's the court's role to determine guilt or innocence based on the evidence available and if the defendant is found guilty apply the punishment within the range related to the crime committed as specified by the law. That Victorian judge the other week that lambasted those to two jail inmates for laughing in court at their actions didn't hold back just because they stabbed an organised crime figure in Tony Mokbel that society has contempt for. Habaes corpus is a key pillar of a democratic Western society and exists for all of us. It prevents abuse of power and corruption from authority.
Pell's case was an example of habaes corpus at work. Just because many people blame and despise him for his failure as a senior member of the clergy to protect kids from sexual abuse by pedophile priests over decades, doesn't mean he should be killed on the spot let alone jailed for life without being allowed his legal right to obtain legal representation and go through the whole court and appeal system especially for the different charge of being accused of being a pedophile himself to which he was ultimately cleared by our court system.
The current debate isn't just about George Floyd either. His death was the final spark. It's about the systemic attitude and treament towards minorities especially in lower socio-economic areas from certain parts of society and especially authority. Everything from racial profiling when walking down the street or going into a shop, to arrests for minor offences such as being drunk when they are not applied to everyone, to the disproportinational deaths in custody, to street killings such as the shooting of jogger Ahmaud Arbery and dodgy local authorities in Georgia initially refusing to arrest the culprits. Those on the receiving end of this stick have had enough. We've also seen an elderly 'white' bloke get pushed backwards by US cops and left on the footpath with blood pouring out of his ear. None of us should accept this kind of behaviour from anyone let alone from the police and authorities which must set the highest of standards. We need those high standards to have trust and respect between the public and police/authority. When that trust and respect is lost society crumbles and decays. It's why those cops in the US who have taken a 'knee' in support have done a lot to restore that respect :clappin. It provides hope for institutional reform and a better future society for all.

I'm not a fan of the movie either but this is certainly political correctness gone completely mad.
I've just read that one of the streaming services has pulled Chris Lillie's TV shows because of there are certain ethnic characters that are being deemed offensive and racist. I'd pull the show simply because he isn't funny but...
I wonder what Al Jolson would make of this or more to the point how he'd get treated today? Back when he was at his peak he was praised and loved, today he'd be.... well let's not go there

i think you need to have a look at some facts buddy.
Fact 1. Firstly 1 death is too many. Out of those deaths how many were solely caused by COVID?
Fact 2. NYC has 25,000 deaths. 7 million people residing in an area the size of Mornington Pensinsula.
Fact 3. America has 350 billion and on a per capita basis is not even the worst performed country during COVID. Worst than the USA are UK, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands and Ireland.
Fact 4. How many have died not as a result of COVID, and being locked up?
But lets not distort the facts and lay blame on one man's performance hey. Or if you are going to do it then others need to be held to account also or is that not relevant in international politics, just over in australia? :shh

Serious question, do you think he will?
As you know I am anti-Don so I don't think he has a chance.
Closer the election gets the more gaffs he seems to make. The interview last week with Jonathon Swan on COVID was embarrassing (watch all of it if you can before smashing me).
As was the interview where he went on about his cognitive test result. Granted, the clips of that in alot of cases has been edited to make it look worse but to go on about what a "smart guy" (his words) did him no favours
I don't rate Biden either but it really is Joe's election to lose.
(Agree with you about his new press secretary Kayleigh, been the best of the 3)

no chance for me WP, but i have friends who watch his briefings daily and follow it a lot more than me, and they are convinced he will succeed. I hope i am wrong as Biden is useless, but next to someone like clinton well he is streets ahead.

As a side note I have noticed that anti trump brigade down under has slowed down, especially in Victoria :shh

Trump can win, former finance minister tells investors
Federal Labor minister turned fintech investor Lindsay Tanner says Australian traders and investment professionals betting on a Joe Biden victory in the 2020 US election might want to think twice.
The former politician, who served as finance minister in the Rudd-Gillard Labor government, said US President Donald Trump had a strong prospect of winning a second term at the general election in November, despite polls showing he is behind his Democratic challenger by at least 4 percentage points in six top battleground states.
"It is a very, very even contest," former Labor finance minister Lindsay Tanner said of the 2020 US election. Eddie Jim
“A lot of people are writing Trump off. I think that’s wrong, I think it's a very, very even contest. There is a very good chance he will win,” Mr Tanner told a virtual conference hosted by the Stockbrokers and Financial Advisers Association on Friday.
For all his "madness", the US President, who was last week officially nominated as the Republican Party's presidential nominee, can reasonably claim to have honoured many of his 2016 election promises, the Labor luminary said.
“Record job creation, record unemployment, standing up to China, ending foreign entanglements, a wall of sorts, the list goes on,” he said.
Following his political career, Mr Tanner emerged as an influential figure in the financial services industry, serving as a non-executive director of Suncorp, a special adviser the Australian operations of global fund manager Lazard and investment committee member at robo-adviser Six Park.
In June, he was named chairman of Pacific Infrastructure Partners, the US-backed investment company that rose out of the ashes of collapsed fintech Sargon Capital, acquiring its superannuation trustee subsidiaries.
Turning to Australia's retail investors and their advisers, Mr Tanner said those looking to assess the impact of the US election on financial markets should tune out from hysterical reporting of the superpower's divided politics.
“For those facing big investment choices I would say look through the smoke to the fundamentals [of the US economy and sharemarket],” he said.
'Goldman Sachs guy'
The US had a good shot at being in the first stages of post-pandemic economic recovery by November, he added. It also enjoyed an "ongoing dynamism" in its business culture that has historically assisted it to bounce back from crises.
Both of these factors boded well for a Trump victory, Mr Tanner said, but the President would also be aided by a more demographic and ideological advantage due to having been embraced by working-class voters.
“The problem that politics faces is that even parties that were once the party of workers and lower income earners [are now the] domain of abstract thinking, university-educated people,” he said.
“Democrats, like the Labor Party, haven’t managed to straddle that divide,” he added, quipping that when he looked at his former parliamentary party colleagues, there was "not a TAFE graduate or school leaver among them".
Trump had been able to exploit voter cynicism that all politicians looked the same, went to the same universities and socialised in the same circles he said.
“They think no matter who wins some Goldman Sachs guy is going to get in anyway.”
Flawed president is not out of this race yet
Asked by stockbrokers and investment advisers in attendance – who are themselves subject to a contentious new mandatory professional standards regime – whether it had become too difficult for non-educated people to aspire to leadership positions, the former minister said it was a fair question.
"It has crept up on us. It is not a giant conspiracy, but it is a major problem," he said. "[We need to] take a good long hard look at ourselves."
Business had a role to play in "grappling with the demands of labour" and ensuring there were meaningful roles for non-university-educated Australians in the future economy, he said.

Edited for accuracy. (I don't trust him not to fake this)
So he either has the virus or he doesn't.
I'm wondering if there are any advantages for Trump in getting or faking his illness. A sympathy vote? An excuse he can point to if he loses the election? A reason to bow out of the election altogether?
I still think he will lose the election and seek asylum in Russia to avoid his debts.

I think trump will win the electoral college. Americans are fundamentally right wing rascists.

An American civil war about to happen? Maybe, maybe not but if it gets too willing watch China invade Taiwan.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/oct/04/revealed-trump-linked-consultant-facebook-pages-warning-election-cause-civil-war
A militia-promoting father and son duo of fake news publishers and a Trump-connected social media consultant are linked to pages which promote the idea of an American civil war with material presented in a way that appears to be an effort to sidestep Facebook’s fact-checking system.
Comments on their Facebook pages and other materials obtained by the Guardian show that some rank and file Donald Trump supporters are enthusiastically receiving the message that they should prepare for violence against their perceived political enemies in November.

Worst case scenario. A close non-result which may takes days and even weeks to sort out and will also be played out in the courts. Then add that the Congress will remain split. What a mess. Glad I'm not an American.

Both sides have said if it's close thry will go to court, the Supreme Court :help
It is a mess because their constitution is a mess.
The things I've learnt about it during the last few weeks leading into this election is staggering. To think that the there are different rules in different states as how the electorate votes are allocated is bizarre. You'd think that for a national election it would uniformed?

Trump is in trouble. He either gets a pardon or he will end up claiming asylum in Russia. He might try to pardon himself but that's legally a bit dodgy or he might resign and have Pence pardon him.

Outgoing US President Donald Trump could be facing a legal reckoning like no other when he packs up his bags and leaves the White House in January.
Ousted from the top job, Mr Trump will find himself without many of the legal protections his presidency afforded him.
Mr Trump is currently facing multiple investigations looking into possible fraud in his financial business dealings as a private citizen - both as an individual and through his company.
He also faces defamation lawsuits sparked by his denials of accusations made by women who have alleged he assaulted them, including E. Jean Carroll, the former magazine columnist who has accused him of rape.

Wonder when this giant hissy fit will end?! Not sure what is worse: his total contempt for democracy and its fundamental institutions or the cowards and cult followers who still bow down to this insecure narcassistic clown and his deranged tantrums.
It won't surprise me though to see him eventually resign even without conceding before Jan 20 so Pence can pardon him (like Ford did for Nixon) to save his own neck.

This from the ultra conservative AFR.
https://www.afr.com/world/north-america/citizen-trump-will-face-legal-woes-20201108-p56ch2
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, who enforces New York state laws, has been conducting a criminal investigation into Trump and the Trump Organisation for more than two years.
The probe originally focused on hush money payments that Trump's former lawyer and self-described fixer Michael Cohen paid before the 2016 election to two women who said they had sexual encounters with Trump, which the president has denied.
Vance, a Democrat, has suggested in recent court filings that his probe is now broader and could focus on bank, tax and insurance fraud, as well as falsification of business records.

I'm not talking about far left or far right idiots on the streets.
The smooth transition of power is one of the most fundamental elements of democracy. In Australia, we have the caretaker period to allow for it. While in the USA, the president-elect should be allowed access to economic, security, health, etc briefings prior to the Jan 20 transfer. Trump is blocking these briefings. He is preventing this smooth transition of power which is a disgrace on its own. Add a 1-in-100 year pandemic which is out of control over there, an economic downturn, and with China and Russia deliberately infiltrating and targeting weaknesses in western countries - and it's sheer lunacy :facepalm.
Trump has a right to ask for vote recounts in close states (which he has mocked anyway because they are only verifying the original result) and even seek legal options provided he has actual independently verifiable evidence (which he has none!). He doesn't have to like the result and can sook on twitter all he likes, but to not concede when the election result is clear cut (306-232) and then block the transition of power is him showing total contempt for democracy and its fundamental institutions.
Are you seriously defending his behaviour?

-

No other sitting president has denied a called election result nor refused the presidential-elect the briefings required for the smooth transition of power.

Yep, the electoral college is outlined in the US constitution. It was meant to be a compromise between those who wanted a direct public vote and those who wanted a minimalist approach (parliamentarians deciding who is the president). By the way, that same argument over models was a significant reason for our 1999 republic referendum failing.
The election of the president and the vice president of the United States is an indirect election in which citizens of the United States who are registered to vote in one of the fifty U.S. states or in Washington, D.C., cast ballots not directly for those offices, but instead for members of the Electoral College.
The Electoral College and its procedure are established in the U.S. Constitution by Article II, Section 1, Clauses 2 and 4; and the Twelfth Amendment (which replaced Clause 3 after its ratification in 1804).
Under Clause 2, each state casts as many electoral votes as the total number of its Senators and Representatives in Congress, while (per the Twenty-third Amendment, ratified in 1961) Washington, D.C., casts the same number of electoral votes as the least-represented state, which is three.
Also under Clause 2, the manner for choosing electors is determined by each state legislature, not directly by the federal government. Many state legislatures previously selected their electors directly, but over time all switched to using the popular vote to choose electors.
Once chosen, electors generally cast their electoral votes for the candidate who won the plurality in their state, but 18 states do not have provisions that specifically address this behavior; those who vote in opposition to the plurality are known as "faithless" or "unpledged" electors.
In modern times, faithless and unpledged electors have not affected the ultimate outcome of an election, so the results can generally be determined based on the state-by-state popular vote.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election
They should have an independent federal electoral commission like Australia rather than one administrated at state & county level. However, the hardcore Trump supporters of the GOP these days would see it as another federal institution that is part of the "swamp" and "socialist". It wouldn't have either stopped Trump still having this massive hissy fit after losing as he would've falsely accused this FEC of rigging the election.

Biden has officially won the electoral college.

CBS News projects Democrat Raphael Warnock defeated incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler, while the other Senate race remained too close to call.
If incumbent Republican Senator David Perdue can win the other race, Republicans will remain in control of the Senate. If Democrats win both seats, there will be a 50-50 tie with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, the president of the Senate, as the tie-breaking vote.
As of 1:30 a.m. [ed. 5:30pm AEST], the votes left to be counted were scattered, with some in small rural counties that tend to vote for Republicans, as well as some in the much larger DeKalb county, which has heavy populations of Democratic voters.
https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/georgia-election-runoff-senate-2021-01-05/
Still too close to call but the giant hissy fit could hand the Democrats control of both houses of congress as well as the presidency.

Fascist and QAnon thugs committing insurrection thanks to the Big Hissy Fit's sedition and blatant lies >:(. Now we've got the cowardly rats in the Republican Party trying to flee after 5 years of them enabling this psycho and his cult sheep to get to this point. Why Pence, McConnell and Cruz did you run away and need security from your own base?! Mind you there was still 120 House and 6 senator Republicans doing the Big Hissy Fit's bidding even after the attack on the US Congress. Down in the bunker with their fuehrer until the bitter end it seems :facepalm.
Aside from handing complete control of the Presidency and Congress to the Dems, the most hilarious thing is the Big Hissy Fit concocted the lies and BS conspiracy theories and egged his gullible nutters on by telling them he'll be joining them at the Capitol, but instead Big Hissy fit went home and watched it on TV before coming out today and turning on them to once again try and avoid blame, self-responsibility and now the 25th amendment. Yeah right, he wants a "smooth transition" after causing this crap in the first place ::). Just like any loony cult, the leader is a deranged megalomaniac who doesn't give a stuff about his sheep followers and only uses these suckers for his own gain.
But of course some will still blame the so-called "Left" (far-right code for the mainstream living in the real world) for this :lol.
Thankfully it's only 13 days to this dangerous deranged circus is over and the adults will be back in charge.

A common link - damaged and lost individuals living in a deranged fantasy world devoid of reality. They symbolise what a sick piece of scum the Big Hissy Fit is. Using and abusing his own followers for his own gain. Like a mobster everyone else is expendable to him and everyone else is to blame for his own destructive divisive rhetoric and failed actions. That woman in the last link who was ironically trampled on while holding a 'don't tread on me' flag was clearly a very troubled individual with a troubled past that was seduced and sucked into the conspiracy theory world online. Becoming a brainwashed cult follower of that psycho and his lies cost her her life. Now her family who watched her spiral into oblivion has to pick up the pieces while they receive death threats from the orange cretin's cult followers for daring to point the finger of blame at him.
Maybe one day the sheep will wake up to this con and learn not to do the bidding of this charlatan and the others who deliberately peddle this conspiracy crap. Might avoid ending up with a $1.3 million lawsuit too. I bet Big Hissy Fit isn't going to contribute a single cent towards it either.

The planning for Wednesday’s assault on the U.S. Capitol happened largely in plain view, with chatters in far-right forums explicitly discussing how to storm the building, handcuff lawmakers with zip ties and disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s election — in what they portrayed as responding to orders from President Trump.

It was an administration like no other.
Donald Trump ripped up the presidential rulebook and steered the world's most dominant power into an uncertain new era.
He will most likely be remembered as a President who did too little to stop the pandemic, and too much to stoke the fires of hatred.

The study comes after coronavirus killed almost 700 residents of aged care homes, which the royal commission has already found had not been sufficiently prepared for the pandemic by the federal government, which is responsible for regulating the sector.
In Victoria, which was hardest hit by the outbreak, more than 40% of deaths occurred in 10 homes, none of which were run by the state government.

So why no mass deaths in any of the other states? Is the Federal Government only responsible for the sector in Victoria? :shh

So the Royal Commission not proof enough?

Donald Trump was cultivated as a Russian asset over 40 years and proved so willing to parrot anti-western propaganda that there were celebrations in Moscow, a former KGB spy has told the Guardian.

Possibly because victoria took people from other states into quarantine when their own states wouldn't.
Outbreak happened in Vic!

Trump has been acquitted at his 2nd impeachment trial
57 - 43
Under the constitution vote need to be 67 - 33 to impeach
So 7 Republicans did vote to impeach but not the remainder didn't
This means Trump can run for President again in 2024
-
Was always going to go that way.
Terrible president but the impeachment was ridiculous.

Amazing foreign policy, saved America's relationship with a number of countries. Created jobs, lowest ever unemployment level for the black community, economy absolutely soaring. Stood up to China.
He was a great president. You may have found him offensive and that is your right...but at least admit he was brilliant for the USA and the world :thumbsup
Thanks for reminding me in the other thread with your " :shh" about this laughable post.
Black unemployment in America was already falling significantly before Trump became president. When he left office though it was higher than when he started.
'Black' unemployment %
Start of Obama (Jan 2009) 12.6
End of Obama/Start of Trump (Jan 2017) 7.7
End of Trump (Jan 2021) 9.2

Yeah Trump really stood up to China :lol. When we lost our barley export market in China thanks to Xi's 80% tariff attack, guess who stepped in to take advantage of it at our expense rather than stand by us ::).
https://www.afr.com/world/asia/china-steps-up-warnings-buys-us-barley-russian-beef-20200515-p54tag
Trump peeed off most of America's allies such as ourselves. No ally could trust or rely on him. He was too busy giving Putin/Russia a free ride while trying to be best buddies with the West's enemies such as dictator Kim Jong Un (North Korea is also a buffer state for China btw).
Trump was/is nothing but a compulsive lying narcissistic and megalomaniac fraud. Always has been. Only suckers fall his deluded BS rhetoric. Atlantic City was a portent to his presidency. Short term sugar hit that ultimately fails disastrously in the long run except of course for himself who just walks away from the mess he created while being in denial and/or blaming others for it. "Great presidents" don't get voted out after only one term with their country in a mess :shh.

Those that decided to go on the wild goose chase in Iraq based on a lie about WMDs at the expense of focussing on Afghanistan when the Taliban were in full retreat back then have a lot to answer for 20 years later.

Deflection? You do realise withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan was Trump's policy. The US had been seeking a political solution hoping for a shared coalition government which included the Taliban for the past 5 years because the Americans had had enough of having their troops still being there 20 years on with no sign of an end. Biden continued that foreign policy. In the end, the western-trained Afghan government army just folded like a pack of cards without western support against a resurgent Taliban.
As far as my post, at the start of the Afghan War it was a rout. Kabul and the north of the country fell in just weeks to the non-Taliban coalition with just Western air support. The Taliban were fleeing southwards. The West going off to Iraq when the task in Afghanistan wasn't even half-completed allowed the Taliban to maintain their strongholds in the south, regroup and reorganise not just in Afghanistan but also in neighbouring Pakistan. There's a reason why the Afghan War went for 20 years and those that changed Western focus to Iraq and allowed the Taliban the chance to regroup back in 2003 have a lot to answer for it back then and now.

This is a really sad time for the world.
We all saw it coming and I am convinced it will just be Crimea again. Nobody will go to fight for Ukraine and Russia will just bully their way into new territory and annex whatever they want. The sanctions don't mean a damned thing to them.

While Ukraine is heavily outgunned, this invasion hasn't gone the way Putin and the Russians wanted. Some of the tactics used have been odd as though they actually believed Putin's rhetoric of being welcomed as "liberators". Ukraine is putting up a fight that is lasting longer than expected, Russian losses are significant (not that Putin cares about using 20 y.o. conscripts as pawns), and even if Russia conquer Ukraine they are going to face years of an insurgency supplied by NATO. Putin has gone all in and is acting more desperate which is a concern. In an ideal world he is taken out by his own along with his puppet Lukashenko in Belarus.
Here's not a bad summary of why Russia is invading Ukraine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If61baWF4GE&t=1915s
Russia has had pretty much the same foreign policy for the past 400 years whether it was a monarchy, communist state or the current oligarchy of thugs under the wannabee tsar Putin. They never learn Eastern Europe isn't theirs and then wonder why neighbouring nations want to join NATO.
One of the little oligarchs had a hissy fit on Russian TV because the sanctions stop him travelling to his two luxury villas in Lake Como :nopity. Yeah, they love mother Russia and hate the West so much they cry and have a tantrum when they have to stay home and can't live in Italy :lol. No surprise either they want their Putin-puppet Trump back in the White House either :shh.

There's no conspiracy. The Hamas terrorist attack occurred early morning on a Jewish holiday & caught Israel by surprise as it was far larger in number and scale, tactically different by targeting civilian homes as well as the youth festival, and unusually coordinated as barbaric and evil as it was (Israel has owned the Arabs in most battles past due to the latter's shambolic plans and tactics). Having said that, the religious extremists do use the other side's acts of violence and killing as justification for their own extremist desires. One tweet from a certain cooker here in Oz who had once fought with the IDF said that the Hamas terrorist attack meant "This is Israel’s chance to finally finish the job". On the other side at Palestinian protests in Sydney there were some chanting "Gas the Jews". It is all just pure evil ethnic hatred fueled by religion.
Ethnic cousins produce the worst lasting hatred. It's like Northern Ireland of the past and the Balkans put together and on steroids. The reaction of the extremists to the 1993 Oslo peace accord said it all. An Israeli religious extremist claiming he was acting on the "orders of God" assassinated PM Yitzhak Rabin for signing the deal, while Hamas pretty much began committing wholesale terrorist acts in opposition to the accord. Both set of extremists don't want peace. These psychos' sole goal is to eliminate the other side instead. The price paid is the lives of the innocent while nothing really changes. So much for there being a "god" ::).

It does actually -from the river Jordan to the Mediterranean sea - ie all of Isreal will be Palestine (which ironically for all the self-styled "anti-colonialists" who use it comes from a Roman name for the area.)
Interestingly the Likud Part of Israel (Netanyahu's) also has the phrase "The land is Israel from the river to the sea" enshrined in it's constitution. :shh

I think if you took the extremists out there would be a warm majority who are content with a peaceful two state solution but unfortunately Hamas is well in control.

Joe Biden has vigorously defended his ability to be president after a damning investigation found he mishandled classified documents and suggested he was too mentally impaired to face trial.
