How are we getting Fyfe AND keeping a top 3 pick?
-
I heard them discussing Cox on SEN this morning, coincidently he was head to punt rd for a tour. But before anyone gets excited he will also tour westpac centre, arden st and waverley park as those clubs are also keen.
Would be a recruiting coup if we could snag him as he would be an international rookie
Fyfe, well need to pay tge big bucks to get a big name.
Pick 3? Cos were so out of form, both parties would lose an intra club if we had one today :-\
Get it done :clapping
-
I meant we'd have to give pick 3 up to get Fyfe.
-
Collingwood or Hawthorn will get the Seppo, we're no chance.
-
I meant we'd have to give pick 3 up to get Fyfe.
Maybe. Or we could get creative. Give em Ellis and pick 20. Or maybe Rance is homesick :whistle

...or Conca....
-
or Reiwoldt has had enough
-
....like Cotchin & Martin will have by the end of next year.
But hey, at least will still have Shank....
-
Jack for Patton and first pick :clapping

Fyfe is the type of star player we should target but we wont get him
1) coz we arent smart enough
2) because of list managers preference to keep duds on the list (primarily those brought in by Hartley) who are all on decent coin
3) because of No 2 we wont have enough salary cap space
As for trading Rance. I wouldnt trade Rance. He's a Richmond player through and through and at least he plays his heart out for the Tigers. Cant say the same for a number of his teammates.
-
Agree Rance is our backline ATM
-
If Dustin Martin played to his potential I feel we don't need Fyfe. We need to develop our midfield and whole team for that matter. I am a massive fan of Fyfe but there is no reason why we can't develop Martin, Ellis, and Conca to support Lids and Cotchin.
That being said if we could get Fyfe without sacrificing a 1st round pick or players which are critical for our structure (Riewoldt and Rance for example) then by all means go for him.
-
there is no real way of getting a Fyfe without coughing up our expected early pick.
-
Maybe. Or we could get creative. Give em Ellis and pick 20. Or maybe Rance is homesick :whistle
Seeing the entire Rance clan reside in Melbourne these and have done since he was drafted, I doubt very much he'd be homesick
But would certainly look at Fyfe, would trade our 1st round pick (if it's higher than say 5) and a player eg Ellis for him
-

Exactly. Unless we finish last and just PSD him. :lol
-
He wouldnt want to come anyway, probably says a thank you prayer to the all mighty every day thanking him that Richmond didn't draft him

Yankee Cox is 3 - 5 years away from senior footy. If you saw him kick a football tonight on the TV, he is only a few years ahead of the AusKickers, with all due respect to the kids.
He's tall and athletic but is useless with the ball in his hands except for a handball, would be very easy to work out. Hampson is a great tap Ruckman thats it. Not interested in a taller version of him who has absolutely no idea about the game. Good luck to him though
-
I'd give up pick 3 for Fyfe in a heartbeat.
Let's get real though no chance.
I'd target tomlinson from the giants over the next year or two - once Boyd starts getting game time he may find it hard to get in a fwd line containing Boyd, Patton, cameron.
-
Hear on SEN, this evening that Cox has chosen collingwood.

If you have a weak stomach, you probably shouldn't read this....
Nathan Fyfe - “My favourite players as a junior were James Hird and Matthew Richardson.
“I was actually a passionate Richmond supporter when I was younger and my least favourite team was the Dockers – I absolutely hated them.
“This was to the extent that at the AFL draft camp, two weeks before the AFL draft, I was trying desperately to get in front of the Richmond recruiters, but they weren’t interested in me at all.
“Then I heard Freo was interested so I was trying to do everything possible so they wouldn’t pick me up.
“But I ended up there and my journey with Freo has been fantastic so far, with the highlight being playing in the 2013 grand final.”

To think in 2009 we could have drafted Martin, Fyfe, Allen Christensen or Sam Reid and Ben Stratton. Unfortunately you can do this every year with hindsight, but seriously it would be nice to draft more than 1 capable player each year.
Astbury still hasn't made it IMO, nor Griffiths.
If we'd taken Fyfe over Griffiths, Reid over Astbury, and Stratton over Dea we'd probably be looking at a top-4 finish (if we could develop them as effectively).
-
We could have had Buddy
-
Even Gunston at 19 would've been better
-
The only way I can not cry myself to sleep after reading that is we went with a 'needs basis' over 'best available' and which is why we went for a CHF because our team clearly needs one. That being said we also need a 2nd fwd to support Riewoldt and Geez Almighty Gunston would've been amazing at Punt Rd.
I've still got my fingers crossed Griffiths will arrive and be the player we desperately need.

some have compared griffiths to hawkins. hawkins yr 6 was awaesome it can only mean one thing griffiths will arrive with a bang.
-
who exactly are these some that have supposedly compared griffiths to hawkins?
-
dimma would have played him off a half back anyways so no big loss.
That draft hasnt been so bad if you ask me. Like others have said martin could have easily been either of the first 2..
IMO conca selction was our worse 1st round draft choice in dimma's reign by a fair margin
