A number of AFL clubs have come up with new logos over the past year or so. The Lions and Crows the latest.
(http://www.lions.com.au/portals/0/images_brisbane_lions/newsletter/newlogo-n7.jpg) (http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/images/crowslogo350.jpg)
Is it time for us to update ours or should we stick with our current logo?
-
Stick with the current one. Best one around by miles (unbiased opinion of course).
-
I like our centenary logo better then the one we currently have.

-
I love the Centenary Logo heaps and would love to see that as our long term logo.
But if not, keep what we have got now.
As it has been said best in the league easily.
-
I think its time for an update, would be happy with the centenary logo at least
Our most recent one has been with us while we've been crap
Get a new one to reflect the new era at the club
-
centenery logo has more appeal :thumbsup
-
Go back to the 80's style logo with the tiger on the yellow sash background. Clearly the best tiger logo ever and reminds me of my childhood and growing up when we were a half decent side, respected and feared.Hopefully those characteristics along with that logo can manifest themselves back into the psyche of the RFC.
-
Never liked our current logo. Agree the centenary logo it tops.
-
Agree with Infamy. I wouldn't mind a change to reflect the new young core we are building. The centenary logo looked very good.

I don't think that was an official logo of the club. Moreso one the media and AFL merchandise used. After the sash-jumping tiger logo we changed to the side tiger head one in 1988 and then to our current one in 1995.
-
I vote yes but not a radical change.
Keep the Tiger head, it's just as good as that Lions logo and maintains tradition. Just needs a lick of paint.
Refresh the rest.
-
there is no better logo than the tiger logo of the late 70s early 80s. if we have that logo, with the outline of the centenary logo then that would be a top logo.
-
What the hell Brian, why would we change it?????? Lets hang onto something that we have had for a few years IMO, I love that logo, best we have had IMO. I hated the other one, not sure if I can describe it but it was very plastic.
Some things need to be left alone, the AFL can't do it with our rules but at least we can with our logo, soon we will be wearing different jumpers anyway and that is when I will stop following football.
Some things should never change and IMO this is one of them, we have finally found a logo that suits our club lets stick with it!! I know it has changed over the years but this is the best one IMO, lets keep it.. :thumbsup
-
The centenary logo for me
It is just the current logo of the tifer head on a sashed shield - looks brillant
Take of the yellow strip that says centenary and it's perfect
have to say the new Adelaide one is diabolical...what a shocker
-
Totally agree with the Crows one, but what else would we expect from them. They might have put in a few hearts and roses, as this would suit them.
I'm all for the 100 year logo, if not keep what we have got.

Brilliant Work and a Brilliant Logo. Club should use it. Its a traditionally successful RFC logo with a modern twist. Well Done MT :clapping
Youve added stars -I imagine each star represents 1 flag. A super super logo.
-
Youve added stars -I imagine each star represents 1 flag.
Yep sure does :thumbsup.
The other idea if people think it's too "busy" was to use one "super" star as clubs in Italy do for each 10 championships they've won but I went for 10 smaller stars as it added symmetry. Anyway just putting it out there after you mentioned it Ramps.

Perfect MT. By far that logo was the best Tiger logo in history. A touch of the old and a touch of the modern and a bit of the European soccer Logo too with the touch of adding a star for each of our Premierships. Fantastic stuff. :thumbsup
-
Sorry, don't like it at all
-
Sorry, don't like it at all
comes down to peoples likes and dislikes. I like it and think it could be better, the est 1885 banner needs to be much smaller, the concept of the stars I like, but it makes it a bit busy, and I prefer the Richmond Football Club heading to have a straight line appearance rather than the slanting, its a good base for a new design. I think MT did a great job for a first up effort.
-
Sorry, don't like it at all
Agreed. Nice effort and good 'shopping though MT.
I don't mind the nostalgic 80s Tiger but it does make the logo look very dated.
I just think we are so fond of it because we associate it with success.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!
Though I do like that older leaping Tiger pose more than the straight head as it has more agression to it.
Perhaps if we had a designer redraw a Tiger like that in a more modern style it could work.
Don't like the shield, star and banners at all as it looks way too busy.
Carlton's relatively recently redesigned logo has a good mix of tradition and modern appeal IMO.
(Won't stain the site but have provided links if you can bear the sight of it).

Modifying the centenary logo
(http://oneeyed-richmond.com/images/richmond/2009logodesign4.JPG)
I like this one, although I'd remove the yellow sash completely. It is simple, holds onto a tradition in our yellow sash across the black in the backgrond. Then has a modern tiger head that has some link to the old Tiger one from the 70/'s
As for the Ramps "one" - the yellow sash at the bottom would defintely need to go and then prehaps it would work better.
But great work MT :thumbsup
-
"if it aint broke-dont fix it"......thats just my personal opinion.
Just to take this thread in another direction I always thought that Balmain(NSWRL) had the best tiger logo in the country.
http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200903/r344714_1572588.jpg (http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200903/r344714_1572588.jpg)
Their Tiger just seems "cooler" than ours.
As for Glenelg & Claremont.....their tigers look pathetic.
-
I actually like the NRL West Tigers logo if you remove the claws and change the orange to yellow
-
Here's an Ar_senal/Victory type logo which is less busy.....

I agree with you here Magic but my drawing in Paint skills aren't that flash lol so I stuck with the original leaping tiger from the 80s.
I'm not a fan of Carlton's current logo as it's fairly plain and uninspiring although it's Carlton so maybe that's why lol.
-
MT I do like both of the first two. If the afl logo could be removed from the second one would be even better though, it detracts a little bit. The idea of the stars is good, but where are are the extra stars going to go ? :thumbsup
-

This has potential. The shield is better. Id like the old tiger emblem (70s 80s) in this shield. The Font up the top is also correct.
-
I agree with Magic that the leaping tiger needs a modern makeover

The VFL logo was on the original and I wasn't sure what to do with it so I covered it with the AFL one. I'd prefer it as well al if it wasn't there but I've never seen the 80s logo without it.
As for extra stars - if only that was a problem ;) :pray
-
Busier versions with stars and "1885" on the above Ar_senal-type ones. "Richmond" looks better in white font IMO as it makes it stand out.

I had a feeling that was the case. Heres a quick hack to get rid of the logo. Colors not quite right, but gives an idea of what it looks like.

But still prefer the Centenery one overall without the thing on the bottom of it.

The logo is fine, leave it as is IMHO.

A report on the AM program on ABC radio this morning said that Brisbane Lions (read old Fitzroy, i think) fans were considering taking the club to court over the logo change. Apparently a legal agreement made during the merger was for the logo to be kept.

Any updated thoughts on whether we should change our logo for a new era?
-
No, ours is classic. Dees have fiddled with theirs a fair bit. That one there is too busy with the footy, southern cross, trident as well as the yoke, monogram and the banner
-
Any updated thoughts on whether we should change our logo for a new era?
Why? Is ours broken? :P
-
Sorry current logo is the best because that big circle stands out from the other clubs.
If we have the guitar pick Spinal Tap version,it will get lost in the others.
-
The Dees are releasing a new logo ....
That Dees one is bloody awful.
Waaaaaay too busy.
It looks like every man and his dog has had a say on what should go into that.
Of the new 'shield' style logos I like the Hawk one best.
Ours could certainly do with a revamp IMO.
-
Are you sure that's officially a new logo for the Dees? I thought it was one someone knocked up on BigFooty
The pitchfork is even a trident, maybe they should be the Melbourne Fish instead of the Demons

Yeah, totally agree Mr BJ. Note how the Melb design is an attempt to reconnect with their roots. No need for us to change anything, won't improve anything. Let's stand for something, be dependable, be visible, be recognizable. Be innovative and inventive in our business and football pursuits but not in our brand, our connection with our supporters and our roots.
-
Yep bj - I like our current Tiger head, why glam it up? Growling, pretty nasty lookin tiger head - simple, sells the brand, no nosense.
Dees is quite poofy, maybe they can go play at yankee stadium - (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-sexy-smileys-944.gif)

-
Seems the Club is looking into updating the logo.
[Comment From Ernie: ]
Do we have plans to update our logo as the current one is 15 years old?
Richmond Football Club:
This is something that Brendon Gale and his team have been looking in to and any changes will come with some form of consultation with our membership base.

Still like the 2nd one - maybe minus the stars now and probably if we got rid of the banner at the bottom and just had est1885 in small writing it would go ok as a logo.

I do too, but having seen it for a while now as an option, I'd probably prefer to get rid of the ribbon and just have the Est 1885 in white text at the bottom of the sheild.

Agree WP. If I was picky I would probably want to look at another font but that would be all.
-
Ditch the current Tiger head and change it completely.
I like what the club has done with the Tiger on the membership site.
That Tiger head above looks tired. Let's freshen our image and go with something bold.
It's time for an entirely new logo.
-
I like what the club has done with the Tiger on the membership site.
Interesting view Mr Magic
I hate that Tiger on the membership web-site ;D
-
The Tiger on the website is too detailed for a logo and would also scare the little kiddies lol. Also according to the Club the Tiger head is a strong brand image for us.
I like the leaping Tiger over the sash but it needs a 21st century makeover.

Melbourne have added 12 stars to their jumper
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/demons-star-gazing/story-e6frf9jf-1225964773213
THE inclusion of 12 stars for every premiership. The stars are shaped in an incomplete circle that will always remain incomplete to reflect the Dee's constant pursuit of success.

Agree that the Tiger is too detailed for a logo. I just like it.
Primarily as it's menacingly staring down the barrel whereas it's always bothered me how the Tiger head looks off to the side.
Agree with you, I would love to see a modernised version of the 1980 Tiger leaping over the sash to maintain a traditional feel yet bring it into the 21st century.
After 15 (mediocre) years with the same badge it's time for a complete corporate makeover IMO.

Somewhat ambiguous with the dees - the 12 stars could also represent their 12 spoons, in which case having an incomplete circle is quite sensible.
St Kilda would have 26 stars :lol

Not a fan of the Centenary logo.
Don't like the font up the top. looks weak and doesn't follow the contours of the shield.
Also looks like a bastardisation of our current logo which makes it look like a halfway patch job.
Needs a complete revamp or don't bother.
