Quick question How many people can the MCG hold? on the web site it says 100,000 but then it says it had 121,000 people during a carlton and the pies

Now it can hold 100k
Back in the early 1970's they squeezed 121K but that included alot of standing room. the OH&S laws don't allow for it these days

i remember watching teh grand final some years back and it had 110k ... 10k standing

I remember standing the whole day at the 1982 GF :-\ and it was jammed packed at the back of the seats where there was standing room.
As WP said the push for safer venues (all seated) reduced capacity of virtually every stadium around the world. Remember in the 1980s there were the horrible Bradford and Hillsbrough tragedies in England where a number of people died because they were trapped in old grandstands and terraces. It sent a message around the world about the need for safe sporting venues.
