Title: Up yours Essendon
Post by: mightytiges on November 19, 2010, 09:28:46 AM
When we picked up Brad Helbig with pick 47 it's alleged there were groans from the Bombers table next to ours who had the next pick after us and were poised to grab him. Now pick 47 was the one Essendon knocked back when they refused to trade Houli to us for it.

Karma! Up yours morons!  :rollin

If it's true MT then we were very lucky given that our draft was compromised.  Actually, if it was compromised and they wanted him and they knew he was on our list then why didn't they take him at 31?  Maybe our draft wasn't compromised after all.   ::)

The essendon table definitely had wry grins on their faces after our pick, so could be true MT

For the rigors of the AFL season, I'd much prefer the Conca heavy duty All Terrain Vehicle rather than the Saab Heppell which may look flashy but will invariably spend too much time in the shop.

Bombers extol virtues of overlooked player in embarrassing website leak
Roger Vaughan
November 19, 2010 - 4:09PM

The embarrassing leak of an AFL draft video has prompted Essendon to review the security of their club website.

The video was posted to YouTube early on Thursday and shows Bombers recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro extolling the virtues of midfielder Shaun Atley as their first-round pick.

But the Bombers used the first pick at No.8 on Thursday night to recruit Dyson Heppell, while Atley eventually went to North Melbourne at No.17.

Essendon chief executive Ian Robson said someone had hacked into the club's website and then made the Atley video public.

He added Dodoro had recorded "less than five" videos pre-draft, depending on which player they went for with their first pick, and these were pre-loaded onto the website.

"Am I relaxed it's public? No, it's a 'small-e' embarrassment," Robson told AAP.

"All clubs, particularly with their first-round picks ... there are a number of scenarios and we prepare for them.

"In this instance, what's happened is we've pre-recorded a number of things with Adrian for our website, to discuss players we thought would be in that group.

"Shaun Atley was certainly one of those and what's happened is those videos that have been stored on our website have been hacked into."

Robson also stressed it was standard for the videos to be stored on the website, ready to be posted publicly.

"Why were they pre-stored? That's a fundamental working practice that is prevalent right across the year ... it's a common practice," he said.

"We're certainly having a review of our protocols and strategies behind the scenes and I'm sure that will continue into next week."

Richmond also accidentally posted a profile on their No.1 pick Reece Conca on the club website before the draft.

Essendon interviewed Heppell at a campsite the night before the draft.

Given the late timing of that meeting, plus the public airing of the Atley video, a conspiracy theory is that Dodoro was overruled on the club's first pick.

Robson said that idea was "nonsense".

The Bombers boss said while the club was rapt to secure Heppell, they retained a high opinion of Atley.

In the video, Dodoro says Atley "has a bit of Chris Judd about him".

"We're hoping that he'll step straight into our midfield in 2011. He gives us that exciting blend of speed, endurance and smarts, along with Jobe (Watson), and Jason Winderlich, and (David) Zaharakis, and (Jake) Melksham and a few others next year, I think our midfield will really improve.

"We made no secret of the fact we wanted to improve our midfield in this draft and I think we've got off to a great start by picking this young man, so we're very very happy."

They're reporting this in today's paper.  :lol

The only thing that worries me is that we drafted a guy that Essendon were keen on, and we all know how well Essendon have recruited in the last few years  :help

First we had the Bombers refuse to trade Houli for pick 47 saying that pick wasn't of any use to them.

Bomber fans then boasted Houli was let go for nothing so Richmond would be forced to use its PSD pick on Houli allowing a high profile player to slip to Essendon.

Essendon then delists Neagle just prior to the National Draft forcing them to draft a replacement for Neagle on their senior list with late picks. They say they plan to rookie Neagle if he lifts his game on the training track.

At the National Draft, Richmond selects Brad Helbig with that very pick 47 just one pick ahead of the Bombers who were about to select him.

Now in the latest installment of Wacky Windy Hill recruiting, it looks like they'll be forced to re-draft Neagle with their PSD pick to avoid Sheedy's GWS from grabbing Neagle in the rookie draft with one of their first 8 picks. All up meaning Neagle will be back on the Bombers' senior list a few weeks after he was delisted by them  :wallywink.

I think dear old Hirdy misspelled 'big fish', god love him.
he meant to say that they were aiming for a 'fat gimp' in the PSD.

Shambles at windy hill you mean
How would of Matty Knights spent the extra $3,000,000 that they have spent on the footy dept in 2011.

I think Bents is referring to the decision by the Essendon board to relocate their already upgraded home base from a picturesque, boutique area of Melbourne out to the roughest suburbs in the west in Airport West/Gladdy Park

Idiots!  :lol

If this season is the start of a new era at Windy Hill after that "horrible coach" Knights left, then I'm loving what I've seen of it the past month. Oh wait, the only changes at Windy Hill are that the bowls club don't have a few spoilt brats to share the place with any more!

Hird and Thomson made a bad mistake when they didnt gut their list at the end of last year instead they basically stuck with what they had. They got them fit and fired up early but the other clubs have clearly caught up fitness wise. The bombers dont have enough class, all Hird and Thomson have done is strand essendon in the middle of the ladder.

How sweet is it going to be when we beat the bommers again in two weeks time.

Should be their 7th loss in a row.

This year's draft is supposed to be quite thin for talent. Should have spread the delistings over two seasons.
